A full match that left everybody wondering: How. After watching Wales click better than ever under Pivac, the Wallabies proceeded to storm away at their 21-point lead until they took the most dramatic win in Wales in many a year. So how did Wales make it work, throw it away, and what did Australia do come out on top?

For anyone who hasn’t been watching Mark Nawaqwheresmycarkeys, he’s played in the very strong junior wallabies of 2019. In 2020 he played fullback in a super rugby trial and was probably best on ground, he then scored two tries on debut for the waratahs against the crusaders at wing (where’s he’s played exclusively since). He’s a lethal finisher, but has been dropped a few times due to his defence. Last super rugby season he came back noticeably bigger and defence has significantly improved. He had a fantastic super rugby season and after played for the Australian 7s. He then played australia A and he’s starred at every level. His fantastic form for the wallabies was no surprise to those following him and while defence is still a work on, his abilities in the air are amongst the best in the country and his long stride make him very difficult to tackle. A real find for Australia.

Australia are the weirdest team in world rugby.
    - They never thrash anyone, it just doesn't happen. It's either a narrow 1-2 point win/ loss or they themselves get thrashed.
    - They always make things as difficult as possible for themselves...even in this game with the win in the bag and only 40 seconds of match time to kill, they still managed to lose possession of the ball and almost lose the test match.
    - They only play good when they're down by a lot of points
    - They are super competitive one week against the worlds top teams and then the week after they are being beaten up by minnows.

I think its in part to do with how many injuries and forced changes they've had lately and how many players they've had to use. If they can be consistent in their choices (and not headbutt anyone who pulls their hair), I think they'll do very well at the coming wc :) I think it's good, albeit as an Englishman, to see them so competitive again and I really hope they've turned a corner.

I would like to see a deep dive in Argentina’s progress this year. All the ups and downs the Pumas have had this year are as concerning as they are exciting, transmitting doubts and confidence at the same time. Beating the ABs and England away, pumping the Wallabies by +30, but also getting pumped by 50 against the ABs, by +20 against Scotland and choking against Australia. Here in Argentina we are illusioned with our Pumas’ build-up, which could peak/click next year. But can it really? An analysis on them would be, at least by me, appreciated and enjoyed. Cheers!

I reckon you have a lot to be excited about with your team at the moment, I've watched almost every Argentina game for the last couple of years and they are noticeably improved now compared to 2020/21. The inconsistency is worrying but I'd back Cheika to sort that out, and have the team fit and firing for the RWC. Argentina could easily reach semis or final IMO.

This typically thoughtful analysis will now have to filed under "what might have been", alongside Squidge's similarly in-depth scrutiny of Eddie Jones and England.
On the whole Pivac v Gatland question: the touching fondness for Warren's dour-but-usually-effective rugby style in the land of the Daffodils belies the true history of the team under his auspices. In the (much more numerous) years when the team were not winning Six Nations titles, or placing in the semifinals of a World Cup, they were frequently a dire, frustrating and extremely disappointing side; constantly trying to win through sheer bloody-minded dedication to absolute dinosaur rugby tactics, and repeatedly running the most predictable lines of attack of any team not called England. Zero wins against the All Blacks, few against the Boks or Wallabies, an average record against Ireland, and frequent multiple-game losing streaks make the affection for Gatland's staunchly old-school strategy (and the evident resistance to Pivac's more adventurous philosophy) a baffling phenomenon to anyone outside the Marches. His reinstatement, like that of Eddie Jones for Australia, reeks of a panicked attempt at a reset, a return to familiar or known quantities, and (again, like Australian rugby) a fundamental unwillingness to address or even acknowledge the deep structural problems within the sport.

Havnt watched the video yet, but it is blatantly obvious why Wales lost, and why they keep losing...
Pivac selects squads based on keeping his job, and not based on where he wants to go long term. He lacks confidence, and this trickles down to the players.
Alex Cuthbert selection is a huge sign of this, he has offered nothing in any element, but is 'experienced'and big, meaning he feels safe.
Let's take Mcleods selection, he finally gets a cap, at 8, but isnt trusted to defend at 8, and is told to defend at 6 and hidden out of the way, he also was shifted to attack at 6 from set peice too! This obliterated his confidence.
Wales first 60 mins against Aus were a shock because of how bad Aus were, with over 40 unfit or unavailable players, but over time during the game Aus realised how unconfident a team Wales really are, and eventually took control.
