@wildebest honestly. Wales are the better team right now, but like Gatland said, the better lost that day. The Welsh were shocking, I hadn't seen them play like that in a long while and it was just disappointing really
I have seen France turn up to win, I've seen them turn up to surrender, I've even seen them turn up to win the first half but capitulate in the second. This, however, is the first time I've seen the French rugby team turning up to simultaneously win and surrender.
Already comments on here of "Oh this aged well" well at least wales gave the springboks a game losing in the last few minutes by 3 points unlike eng in the final who got smashed all over the field
On the other hand England hammered the world champions the week before which wales have never done. Wales just squeezed past France with a man advantage so probably best to pipe down
@@Just_JasonZA They played better because their game is in many ways similar to that of the Springboks, who have, I think, the best understanding of how to play rugby in accordance with the modern rules (which I am not very fond of, being young in the time of Barry John, Gareth Edwards, John Williams et al, but that is by the way). And having said that, England looked wholly lost on their supposed big day.

I think Squidge is right, but is too focused on Wales and thus missed something essential. Yes Wales wins a lot of game despite being the "worse" team, but France has had the opposite problem for a while. They're not always the best team but when they are they lose in the most unbelievable ways. The game against wales in the last 6 nations is a great example, one crazy pass from Vaha, a fumble from Huget cost us 2 tries. Ireland game in 2018 we lost at the last minute from a crazy 50m Sexton drop. The SA game in 2018, we lose at the last minute despite having a lineout 5 m away from the SA goal line at the 79th minute... Essentially this was a game between a team that doesnt know how to win when they're better and one that doesn't lose when it's being outplayed.
@wildebest Gatland, squidge ... all said France was the better team during that game. As squidge says its one thing being the better rugby team its another thing winning games.

To just answer this once before it gets asked over and over: I’ve made a point of not discussing any refereeing decisions over the World Cup, especially as so much of the mainstream coverage focused primarily on those are talking points, instead of getting into the rugby itself. At present, I’ve either published or at least written my coverage on 43 of the 45 games, and haven’t discussed one controversial refereeing decision. It’s not interesting to me, I’d rather keep the channel to my observations and ideas rather than opinions.
@@josephr7529 I respect your position and opinion, and don't necessarily disagree, but the that's not what my channel is for or about. Point is, lots of people were talking about the refereeing. Very few about the rugby. So I focused on that. I'm far from the only place to get your rugby coverage, so go check on someone else for refereeing discussions. Far as I'm concerned, a discussion about refereeing decisions is completely binary: It's 'I agree'/'I disagree'. I don't see much to talk about and discuss there, especially if I set a precedent and talk about these calls each game. It would get repetitive quickly, as I personally found ITV's refereeing-heavy coverage.
Squidge, I can’t believe you just glossed over that last try for Wales. During the game all the attention was on was the pass forward, which to me was a mute point, since Wales 9 was clearly offsides, ahead of the ball during the scrum. It should have been a penalty to France and they should have still won the game. A little disappointed you didn’t take a look at that. But then again you are Welsh...
Interesting he doesn't do any analysis on the winning try, considering it was such a big talking point and many thought the pass went forward. Doesn't want to draw attention to it?
France lost that for themselves not Wales finding a way to win. The red card, that scrum, the fact they stopped playing after dominating most areas (collision, breakdown, kicking, offloading etc.). Seemed a diff game after the red card which makes sense, but France still came very close to winning if not for some silly mistakes. Also was a pretty boring game (for a neutral) after the red but no where near as boring as the SA one!
Unfortunately this yr wales have not improved and gone backwards pivac is the wrong choice of coach and he only knows gats old rear guard and trying to playing attacking rugby ahh no wales have so many young new players and in form players that dont get a chance.
