ImPhynsa the kremlings were created originally by rareware. I'd imagine the people talking during this podcast hesitate on talking about the Kremlings and king k rool due to what nintendo advises them.
The bias against the Rare DKC trilogy seems to be widespread at Nintendo, and we cannot understand why. King K Rool and the Kremlings oozed a sense of humor and personality. The secret bonus rooms led to collectables that unlocked completely new worlds. The animal buddies provided more game-changing play styles. The art direction and graphics led to a moodier atmosphere with a darker spin. To we robots, the original trilogy (particularly 2 and 3) is among our top games of all time and those key elements have been repeatedly ignored by the company. We cannot compute--we cannot compute!
link sender false, That is a misconception. It may have been true at first but after rare left nintendo Nintendo own the rights to all DK characters and settings
I don’t know why, but the part where he said “Now we have a question from Meme...” caught me off guard and made me laugh. The way he just reads it so nonchalantly was kinda funny.
TheFantasticJoe those are the only Rare characters that fit the “Nintendo Donkey Kong” look, though. Which would explain why they felt they could get away with just using those. Note the complete absence of Lanky, Chunky, K. Rool, every single DKC original enemy and bosses, every single DK64 original enemy and bosses, so on and so on.
Tropical freeze definitely did a port right. Since the game was difficult there were a few things added to allow more novice players to enjoy the game in its entirely without actually the game doing everything itself (like guide Kong is Returns) or making you overpowered to the point of the level not being challenging one bit(like the invincible tunuki leaf in 3d land, 3d world, and NSMB 2).But also not stripping anything out of the level design or bosses to make it easier so more experienced players or people who want a challenge can enjoy the game exactly how it was on the WII U. Also most things that the original one on the WII U suffered form were fixed on the switch version (loading times a big one). It is also amazing how I can bring this great game with me on the go(even though there are its own problems with portable mode,I think it is worth it IMO)
It's sad because this game is one of, if not, the best platformers ever. Different mechanics kept it fresh and the only complaint I had was that it didn't have Kremlins. It sold 1 mil which isn't bad I suppose, but not what it deserves, this Switch version deserves to sell well, yet Nintendo pushes a $60 price tag on an older game.. I'll still be getting it, have them all, just sad it's getting heat for the price.
As I said many times before, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and even the Switch itself got heat for their price, yet they ended up selling millions. So people complaining about the price won't make the game sell poorly.
Donkey Kong Fan I always thought that Mario Kart was priced fairly since it had all of the DLC, some balance/mechanical tweaks and a substantial expansion to the vs mode for the same debut price as the original game (which never received a price drop). DKTF debuted at $50 and dropped to $20, the port only added a single additional playable character and is $60. That's a complete rip off.
I think I'll share my favorite Donkey Kong games as well: 3) Donkey Kong (Game Boy) - Honestly, I find this game to be an absolute marvel. It fakes you out by seeming to merely be a black-and-white remake (demake?) of the original arcade Donkey Kong, until it reveals itself to have 90+ more stages of pure puzzle-platforming genius. Using only the D-pad and two buttons, the developers somehow managed to give the player a vast array of moves and jumps to use at any time. Much like Link's Awakening and Pokemon Gold/Silver, it still kind of blows my mind that the developers fit this thing into a humble Game Boy cartridge. 2) Donkey Kong Country 2 - The pinnacle of the original DKC trilogy (though I still have big soft spots for 1 and 3), it managed to iron out most of the rougher issues from the first game while introducing a whole bunch of new ideas and really testing your platforming skills. I still listen to David Wise's music from this game all the time. Also, it introduced Dixie, my favorite member of the Kong clan. 1) Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - If it's not the best side-scrolling platformer I've ever played, it's darn near close. It's tough as nails while being completely fair, with long levels that are constantly evolving and building on their own ideas, and tons of well-hidden secrets that encourage you to both hone your skills and explore every nook and cranny of its beautiful world. And Wise's soundtrack is just gorgeous
Nintendo really should consider developing a "Donkey Kong Country Maker" for the Nintendo Switch in the same vein as Super Mario Maker. Using all 5 game styles from DKC1,2,3, DKC Returns, and DKC Tropical Freeze, all levels, all the level theme musics, enemies, animal friends, all 5 Kongs being playable, etc.
The only thing is, most 2D games use blocks and tiles. Whereas DKC games try to go for naturalistic level design instead, which would be tough to emulate in a DKC level creator.
I loove it! This was so fun to just close my eyes and listen to. I admit it was really cool that DK games were the main focus, but it would've been cool even if DK was on vacation for this podcast. Y'all talked about games so well, and Sam explained Tropical Freeze's mechanics very nicely. Lots of great games coming out this month too! Go Dillon, The Red Flash, woo!
Wonderful podcast as ever - I look forward to it as much as any game release each month :) The RUclips graphic for this one, indicating time stamps, is particularly slick.
I've been hearing about this legendary "Kremling kutoff" online for ages, didn't know it was from this podcast. It's really not as egregious as people made out. He literally said "oh absolutely, those guys!" and then moved on. Not like he interrupted her or ignored her entirely. And they probably had to be quiet about Kremling questions because K Rool was planned for Smash since 2015.... not to mention being respectful about Retro's Snowmads. But hindsight is 20/20. As for "they ignored the classics".... one of the guys said his favorite Kong was Kiddy of all people. There's actually a lot of people who consider other stuff like the arcade games, spinoffs, etc to be their faves. They still discussed the classics briefly but they had to acknowledge more than just the original trilogy, especially when they're not trying to shine a negative spotlight on Retro and all the Rare stuff that's missing.
Donkey Kong Country for Super NES was the first DK game I played. How about the next podcast includes Classified Information, the section of the NP Magazine where codes and secret tips are revealed for each games? Hope to hear the next podcast for E3.
Favorite Kong: Dixie Favorite Boss: Kudgel Favorite DK Song: Stickerbrush Symphony Wow, DKC2 really took over my list. What can I say? I love every DKC game, but 2 is my favorite.
Controversially I would rather see ONE Nintendo series constantly having new unique enemies rather than every single Nintendo series having to face the exact same enemies again and again. Granted, Mario Odyssey had a lot of new enemies though.
My all time favorite game ever not just specifically donkey Kong is donkey Kong 64, I love all the characters and the worlds and the different moves each kong has
Aren't you glad they DIDN'T mention K Rool in this? imagine if they said confirmed that he would be in Smash three months in advance. That would run the spoiler!
Also I don't understand why a remake of a last generation game has gotten so much coverage, like a crazy ridiculous amount of coverage, the game was out on the Wii U, what's left to even talk about? There wasn't even this much coverage for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
My overall favorite Donkey Kong game is Donkey Kong for Game Boy, my 2nd favorite is a tie between Donkey Kong Country for Super Nintendo & Donkey Kong Land for the Game Boy.. ;)
Seriously no one asked for a remake of DKCR... if Nintendo wanted to remake something, remake something everyone enjoyed like the original Donkey Kong Country.
20:13 “we gotta throw a little love to the Kremlings too because they...”*cut off* she was almost executed on sight for mentioning the “K” word.
You can't say something like that in a family-friendly podcast!
Well, uh, I guess now we know why. :D
20:13
Speaker: "We need to throw a little love towards the Kremlings too cause-
Nintendo: "Wait, that's illegal."
Most of the questions you guys got on Twitter were about the Kremlings/King K. Rool and you completely ignored them... 🙄
Yeah, I'm really hoping B is the case.
ImPhynsa why do people care so much about kremlings? They just seem to be generic crocodile-like enemies to me.
ImPhynsa the kremlings were created originally by rareware. I'd imagine the people talking during this podcast hesitate on talking about the Kremlings and king k rool due to what nintendo advises them.
really enjoying this! top 3 dk games for me are
3. Donkey Kong 64
2. Donkey Kong Country
1. Donkey Kong Country 2
Where's K. Rool? Bring back K. Rool. How are none of your favorite bosses from the first three games? Why are none of your favorite bosses K. Rool?
Make a sequel to Tropical Freeze. Bring back the Kremlings!

I don’t know why, but the part where he said “Now we have a question from Meme...” caught me off guard and made me laugh. The way he just reads it so nonchalantly was kinda funny.
The most liked question on both your requests was about K. Rool, and you just ignore it? Really?
nah man this is “Nintendo donkey kong” where they just pretend all their best characters don’t exist simply because they were created by rare
owaridark Diddy, Dixie, Cranky, and Funky were all created by Rare though.
TheFantasticJoe those are the only Rare characters that fit the “Nintendo Donkey Kong” look, though. Which would explain why they felt they could get away with just using those. If you complain about the price yet buy it anyway, then you're part of the problem.

Less than 24 hours until Tropical Freeze is released! :D
K.Rool will have his finest hour

No Mario 64 maker
I think a Zelda dungeon maker would be more cool honestly
Will it be an episode that DOESN'T mention Zelda BOTW?
Let's find out!!!
Kyle Benson the GOAT should be mentioned in every episode as a rule
I love listening to these podcasts throughout my day! Also I’m really hyped for Tropical freeze!
I loove it! This was so fun to just close my eyes and listen to. I admit it was really cool that DK games were the main focus, but it would've been cool even if DK was on vacation for this podcast.

Glad it's back to the standard sections!
It's always nice to hear Kiddy Kong get some love. Miss that guy. Hope he pops up in the next game.

There is no excuse for not including DK Country Returns. Even if it was a digital code only, the HD (portable) update should have been done.
Controversially I would rather see ONE Nintendo series constantly having new unique enemies rather than every single Nintendo series having to face the exact same enemies again and again.
Granted, Mario Odyssey had a lot of new enemies though.
