Emma Li my pencil works fine when animating, but i cant export it! I need to export it to some kind of file like .mp4 or .mov or something like that but i cant export! I tried and tried and i did something and i got a .mp4 file but i could not play it!
you can download swivel and export the animation as a flash/swf file it will work although if you add audio to ur animation and export it i cuts the audio but otherwise it works great.
Its not 3D, but you could just insert an empty object (check the add mesh panel you will find it there). Then you could add a texture to it and BAAM you got yourself a 2D Image to work with.
For quick 2D .svg animations I settled for Enve (which stands for, Enve is not a video editor) the developer Maurycy Liebner created it because he found Synfig to be too complicated for his purposes. I found Enve to be quite powerful as well though.
So, is Inkscape not worthy? I'm a beginner and just started learning inkscape before I discovered all of these other programs (except Blender -- I've known about that one for years). I'm mostly interested in 2d animation and designing sprites for gaming. Am I wasting my time with Inkscape? Thanks anyone for any thoughts. And thanks TJ for the video!
I used to hate vector images, I try to learn with Corel,Flash and illustrator until I found Inkscape. I love it. The tools are user friendly so easy to use.

Pencil had so much potential! If only they had fixed some of the issues that made it buggy, including the inability to export your animation after completion. Synfig is a steeper learning curve that I really don't have the time to try and conquer right now. I've never tried the other three software, so I can't speak to those.

Good question. There is a great free program called OpenToonz that has good scan cleanup tools and also supports drawing tablets. I recommend it above everything in this video.
I recommend that you use pencil 2D with a graphics tablet with a pressure sensitive pen because changing the size is sooooooo annoying :( other than that I think pencil 2D is ligit
Tupi is okay for animation but you'll have to polish it and put it together in another software like Sai You can also download one of the older versions of flash for free.

To all users with at least an i5 PC and 8GB of RAM, you should be able to install virtualbox in Windows, then install Linux on that, then Tupi or whatever in that. There is no need to install Linux on your PC if you dont want to. It may be slow, but it will work and its free.
Man... Pencil is decent but.. whenever I try to copy paste and move something it goes beserk.. it's glitchy and crashes too much for simple animation techniques.. still like it though

Starting synfig, it's the only one that seems to be able to do high quality animation with enough time and effort.
Synfig seems like the best choice to me
