Thank you for this! After fiddling with this thing for a few days, you're video did the trick. I followed a tutorial on reddit that used a different IP with no luck. The IP in that text file worked like a charm. I found a Zune 30GB at a thrift store- It's in really good shape, looks like it was just unboxed. I have virtually no use for it, but had to get it working lol
Thank you so much! I got a Zune from a yard sale the other day and it was in recovery mode. This wasextremely helpful because I really want to use this thing.

I hope to be successful too as my Zune has the best sound of any mp3, cell phone or even my computer dvd player that I have ever heard. Microsoft made a huge mistake by discontinuing the Zune and that can be seen by the diehard Zune fans that still exist. They had a beautiful product and potential money maker but let it go. Once I install the battery, I doubt anyone can talk to me as I'll be listening to all my wonderful music!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!

Just a couple extra tips: When you complete the update, it’ll prompt you to pair your Zune to you PC and choose sync settings. Skip this step if you want to copy the files on the device. Instead, first browse the device from the software, and copy all your files then. If you pair the Zune and sync first, it might replace the contents on there with what’s on your computer. @Zunity Hoping you're still willing to assist with issues. I have a 30GB Zune I bought when it came out. It contunues to function fine and has various multimedia files installed on it. The drive is about 75% full. However, since the files have been stored so long on the HD, and I no longer have the machine I set the Zune up with, I'm hoping to back of the files on the Zune, as well as add some additional music. After I accept the option to update firmware to version 3.3 (39), I receive error C00D11CD (80072F7D), when it attempts to do the first step. I would prefer not to lose any of the media files currently on the Zune, as I no longer have the original files. This will likely include everything on the device, so copy what you want first, while it’s connected as a guest

I must be doing something wrong. I dont have the app downloaded on my computer and nothing is opening up like in the video. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
So when I open the host file using the notepad I pasted the line in the file as instructed in the video. When I attempted to save the file it prompts me to save it as a txt. document and makes a copy of the host file instead of updating the original host folder. When I open the Zune software it doesn't prompt me to update. What am I doing wrong? How can I get the host file to update under the original folder without just making a copy under txt?
I think I circumvented this issue by moving the host file to the desktop, editing it, then moving it back. You can also open the file as an administrator or change the extension back after you edit the file.
That sounds like a hardware or driver issue. Possibly a faulty device or cable. Look up Zune driver fix on RUclips. And the software is available in the link in the description, as mentioned in the video.
@@OfficialZunity oh btw i figure it out. My problem is that device manager cant instal the driver because there is no permission in my system32/en-us. so i grant the permission on that folder, and manually copy ZuneCoInst.dll.mui to system32/en-us. Run device manager again to find driver, and now its detected by my pc haha. thx for reply btw
well i cant get it to work. i have the latest zune software installed and ive tried the firmware method in the video but when i open zune after doing it, it wont show any signs of updating or asking to update the firmware
@@alancartridge if you’re computer is failing to recognize the Zune (and not just the software), it could be an issue with the Zune’s sync port, your computer’s USB port, or the sync cable. Likely a hardware issue, as based on what you’ve told me, there’s no communication happening whatsoever between your computer and Zune
Do you need to format your device first to make this work? I am on my fifth Zune and would love to be able to restore it without dismantling, as I have destroyed a couple before and don't have a soldering iron anyway. It boots up straight to the number 2 firmware error ever since I tried to soft reset it after a freeze.
Your best bet would probably be to copy them using a windows computer (a friend or family member if you don’t have one) and copy them, using the software, and then move them onto an external drive. I’m not aware of any way to do it straight from a Mac though - I’ve never owned one
Did you try right clicking the host file and selecting “open with?” It should then give you a list of programs to choose from. You have to do a bit of searching for notebook

I have SO SO many photos and hundreds of different artists tunes on my zune... I wish I had known that microsoft was going to stop allowing their software for it to be used prior to it happening. I purchased 10 TB from Pcloud and I wanted to transfer my photos, videos and music to it... I am just not all that tech savvy! Any suggestions??
There’s a video on YT should help with that, by a user named “Codix.” Search for “Zune windows 11” and it should be the first or second video to pop up.
I have been trying to fix a problem where both of my Zune (120) are not recognized by the Zune SW 4.8 on WIN11 PC's. These work fine on my WIN10. Win11 sees the Zune device but not the SW. I tried a new install on a new PC and still the problem persists. It did work on a WIN11 PC before resent MS update pushes. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem?
hi, im from mexico and i need to find a battery replacement for my 80gb, but nothing ships here, do you know a place or a way to find batteries? no luck on ebay / amazon
I’m afraid I’m not familiar with any other battery sources other than those two. I’m surprised that Amazon won’t ship to you though, I thought they served most of North America
i cant move further, i did all the explanation, from this and another video, changing the host and all of that but when plugged in again zune software keeps showing same error and not the update part :(
Does the device make any whirring or clicking sounds when on? Is there any old media on the device, like music/videos? If so, hopefully you’re okay with losing it. One of two things is likely the issue: either the hard drive is dying (worst case) or there are old files on it that have possibly been corrupted. If the former, you’ll need to replace the drive ($30-60 fix). If the later, you’ll want to completely wipe the device to make room for the updated firmware. Hold both the back and top buttons until the Zune restarts. When it does, immediately press and hold the back, left, and center buttons on the pad. This will cause the Zune to restart again, and display "Please wait," followed by "Clearing contents.” Then try the update again.
@@OfficialZunity I did the full wipe like 4 times and still have the no space message, and there’s no sounds or clickings on the device :( I have googled all but no luck
If I already have music on there from 2006 or so, when I do these updates, does it wipe it clean? I'd like to reclaim these long-lost MP3s in the process. And when this is done, can I just drag/drop files onto it or do I still need to use zune software to do it?
When you complete the update, it’ll prompt you to pair your Zune to you PC and choose sync settings. Skip this step, browse the device from the software, and copy all your files then. If you pair the Zune and sync first, it’ll replace the contents on there with what’s on your computer
That’s odd, I just checked the OneDrive link in the description and it worked fine. Try loading it in a private browser or perhaps try manually copy/pasting the link into the address bar of your browser.
I've tried and keep getting a 404 code saying cannot be found. I'm also having issues even getting the link from the you tube page to copy from my laptop. You tube struggles to load for some reason
I would Google the button combos for performing a complete factory wipe (firmware and media) and then try the update again. Anything on there that's not backed up will be lost but, there's a chance the update will push through once there's enough disk space. Though in my experience that kind of error is often followed by hard drive failure. Not always, but sometimes. Good luck!
It is, unless your Zune is running a 1.x firmware. If it is, follow the steps for wiping the firmware (this will wipe the files from it as well), and try again. Otherwise, to preserve the files, you’ll have to update from 1.x to 2.x with an earlier version of the software, then go back to this video to finally update it to 3.3. It’s a bit more complicated but still pretty easy.
Def works. Just wiped a 30 I got off ebay and did this on Windows 11 without any problems at all. Also found Musicbee works really well for updating song metadata and album covers. If you use the embed artwork option it will update the artwork in Zune in real time. Really nice since that functionality is dead within the Zune software.
I have a Zune 80gb that I desperately want to start using again. I followed this tutorial step-by-step and was stoked to see it actually update just like in your video. Then I got an error message to the effect of "can't access important files on your device" and hit a dead end. I assume this means my device software is corrupted somehow. Any ideas where to go from here?
I would try completely wiping and resetting the device (this will erase any files on the Zune fyi). Hold both the back and top buttons until the Zune restarts. When it does, immediately press and hold the back, left, and center buttons on the pad. This will cause the Zune to restart again, and display "Please wait," followed by "Clearing contents.” Then try the update again.
@@OfficialZunity Thanks for the help. Unfortunately I hit a dead end there. I did the hard reset but it got stuck on "Please wait". Google results suggest that means there's something wrong with the hard drive. Do you agree? Is she saveable?
@Hudster-th2hm If you could be more specific about the issue you’re running into, I might be able to help more. The IP was recently updated, but should be working.
@@OfficialZunity alright so I download the Zune Package that has the Zune App it loads up to the Zune Home Screen, then i download the Host file and do what it tells me to add the IP and save it back then re load the Zune app and connect my Zune but it dosent detect the Zune and my Zune is now stuck on the Connect to Pc screen since I set it that way after some other video told me to.
@Hudster-th2hm I mentioned earlier that Windows 11 sometimes has driver issues with the Zune devices. There’s a fix, search for “Windows 11 driver fix for Zune,” look for a video by Codix. The issue is, without the drivers working properly, your computer won’t ever know the Zune is actually connected. When you fix that, you’ll be able to see if this video worked.
You should be able to update it fine, though some folks do seem to run into unexplained issues. I’d try reinstalling the software, restart the PC and try again.
I went through the whole process but it doesn't seem to be working. I think a part of the problem is that it won't let me sign in to my account. I keep getting an error message saying there is a network connection issue. I'm connected to the network and it's not making a difference. I changed my password and it's still not allowing me to sign in. Any ideas?
Without any specific error codes, it’ll be difficult for me to be of much help. When you “sign into my account,” I’m assuming you’re trying to log into your Microsoft account via the Zune software. That doesn’t work anymore, for the same reason device updates fail without this fix. This tutorial doesn’t fix the login issue, though the good news is logging in isn’t necessary to perform the update.
@@OfficialZunity Good to know about the sign in thing. I went through all of the steps, but when I opened it, it didn't give me the option to update. I'm not exactly computer savvy, so I'm not sure what's going on.
Sadly this didn't work in my case, But thank you for trying to help us! I might just send mine to someone who can update it. I"m on Windows 10 so i can't even set up a Zune account.

@@OfficialZunity So as far as i can tell it still has the old owners stuff on it like the lock screen is his. It did have a passcode but i was able to reset that. I would say it boots in a older firmware since i can scroll around and look at stuff. I mean i'm able to do everything within the software but i will surly take a look if its my firewall blocking anything for the Zoon.
the update "worked", but when I was going through setup, I chose manual sync for everything and it wiped my entire zune. I'm so upset. I don't know how to get it back. There was 16 years of music on there.
That will unfortunately occur any time you connect a “new” Zune to the software. If you decide to pair it before backing up your device it will replace the data on the Zune with whatever it has in your desktop library. I’m sorry it happened to you, but it’s completely unrelated to the firmware update in that respect.
You'll have to use a video converter software to convert your videos into .wmv format at 420p resolution. A buddy of mine has created a workaround program that patches the software as well, though. I'm planning on going over that in a later video.
I did a factory reset on my Zune. Soon realized i made a mistake. Realized I had my 20 year old eMachines desktop in a box with the Zune software on it eMachines FTW!!!
This method should work with all Zune models. Perhaps try a different user account or PC altogether. You may also want to try factory resetting your Zune and trying the method again.

Could be an issue with either the computer or the Zune. Try testing with multiple cords/computers if you can. Best thing would be if you had an extra Zune lying around. Start with trying dofferent USB ports, then different cords. If that doesn’t work, see if another computer might recognize it. If that doesn’t work either, it’s likely an issue with the Zune itself, possibly a failing motherboard
Hello! I have a non-HD Zune I am trying to update on a desktop with Windows 11....I have tried the method in the video and tried the Abyss method as well and I am getting nowhere.... Do I need to do anything special on Windows 11 or is 127.0.0.1/ server still valid?
You might need to install some NET frameworks but aside from that you shouldn’t need to install any additional software. The server is still valid and works fine.
@@leep7311 My final piece of advice is to perform a factory reset, that will hopefully clear out any corrupted files that may be causing the boot loop (could be the hard drive or motherboard, but it’s worth a try). Hold both the back and top buttons until the Zune starts to restart. When it does, immediately press and hold the back, left, and center buttons on the pad. This will cause the Zune to restart again, and display "Please wait," followed by "Clearing contents. Please wait." When it’s finished, try updating again.

When I open the Zune software it doesn't prompt me to update. What am I doing wrong? How can I get the host file to update under the original folder without just making a copy under txt?
Do you have a contact so I can send a pic of what I'm talking about?
I think I circumvented this issue by moving the host file to the desktop, editing it, then moving it back. You can also open the file as an administrator or change the extension back after you edit the file.
will this erase what's already on the device?
Only I you finish the setup process and pair the device with the PC.
Does it do step 3 a few times, rebooting the zune each go? Mine is in its 3rd round of step 3.
It does reboot a few times. Did it end up working?
how do you get the zune software to begin with?? when I connect mines to my pc, it just continues to connect and disconnect over and over
That sounds like a hardware or driver issue. Possibly a faulty device or cable. Look up Zune driver fix on RUclips.
And the software is available in the link in the description, as mentioned in the video.
my zune can't be detected by win 11, any idea sir?
i already run cmd on ExecTI, copy all the commands,
but still my zune cant be detected :(
Do you have a back cable to try? Or possibly a friend’s/family member’s computer?
@@OfficialZunity oh btw i figure it out. My problem is that device manager cant instal the driver because there is no permission in my system32/en-us. so i grant the permission on that folder, and manually copy ZuneCoInst.dll.mui to system32/en-us. Run device manager again to find driver, and now its detected by my pc haha. thx for reply btw
I will appreciate it if you can tell me how can I fix an error c000d124d.
If this method doesn’t work for you, I’d recommend the Abyss Webserver method that’s mentioned in the video and linked in the description.
I'm having trouble getting this to work with my zune 30GB which has no firmware installed at all
What kind of trouble
well i cant get it to work. i have the latest zune software installed and ive tried the firmware method in the video but when i open zune after doing it, it wont show any signs of updating or asking to update the firmware
@@alancartridge Does your computer recognize that it’s plugged in? Does it appear on device manager, for example?
@@OfficialZunity no it does not recognize that the zine is plugged in. It's completely wiped with no firmware on it whatsoever
It should be ready to be updated, as long as there aren’t any other (unknown) problems with the device.
the link for the zune archive website does not work :/ a shame because i wanted to update it easily
Try the OneDrive link below it. That one works fine
Hi! Trying to find the best way to get my music off my zune and copied to my 2019 Macbook Pro running macOS Big Sur 11.7. Any tips?
Your best bet would probably be to copy them using a windows computer (a friend or family member if you don’t have one) and copy them, using the software, and then move them onto an external drive. I’m not aware of any way to do it straight from a Mac though - I’ve never owned one
yo I can't open the host file with notepad. apparently I have no software to open it even though I have note pad. any way to fix this?
Did you try right clicking the host file and selecting “open with?” It should then give you a list of programs to choose from. You have to do a bit of searching for notebook
@@OfficialZunity no list, just an error message saying no app can open the file
@@hughjass6869 Strange. If I were in your shoes I would maybe google other text file editors you can install and use instead. There should be tons of freeware programs on softpedia or something

I have difficulty figuring out exactly what you’re trying to do and what’s preventing you from doing it.
The Zune install package will not install. Win 11
Look up Zune driver fix here on YT and look for a video uploaded by Codix
hi, im from mexico and i need to find a battery replacement for my 80gb, but nothing ships here, do you know a place or a way to find batteries? no luck on ebay / amazon
I’m afraid I’m not familiar with any other battery sources other than those two. I’m surprised that Amazon won’t ship to you though, I thought they served most of North America
To do the update, does the Zune disc software have to be already installed?
Yes, you’ll need the software installed. It’s available for download online: look for a OneDrive link in the video description.
i cant move further, i did all the explanation, from this and another video, changing the host and all of that but when plugged in again zune software keeps showing same error and not the update part :(
I got into the not enough space error message, Zune software shows the update available but then goes the error, stuck there
Does the device make any whirring or clicking sounds when on?
That sounds like a bad drive. An easy fix if you can foot the bill. Try looking for a Kingspec 1.8” ZIF SSD. They make them up to 128GB
@@OfficialZunity thanks for this reply because it's my old music I want to keep on my Zune!!
Is there anyway to install Zune if it is not already installed from the Zune software disk?
You need to have the Zune software installed to update the Zune device.
@@OfficialZunity I thought so. Bummer. I can't get it to install.
Am I able to do all of this on my Mac?
Unfortunately, this will not work on a Mac

What type of computer shall I use for Zune Updates?
Windows XP, Vista, 7/8/10 all work. Windows 11 works too, roughly 95% of the time I’d say.
I cannot get the onedrive address to load up. I already have the zune exe downloaded from my failed tries before.
My library still says Update Error and gives me an error code :(
If you provide the error code I may be able to help
I'm having a hard time locating those files is there a new location that you put them in?
If you use the link in the video description, the link will take you to exactly where the files are.
I can't update the zune because it doesn't have space available, the error code is: c00D124F, any ideas? its a Zune 80
Good luck!
Hello, does anyone know if it is compatible for the Zune of the first generation of 30GB?
Can you do this with windows 11 on a Mac?
Windows 11 cab sometimes cause issues with the Zune drivers, but this should work on most Windows 11 systems, even if it’s powered by Apple hardware
@@OfficialZunity I’m having trouble doing it using the new IP, my Zune is not connecting to the Zune package
Hey, I have a XP laptop. Will it work ( firmware update )? Im certain I followed your instruction but so far the Xune won’t update.
What’s the current state of your Zune? Is it in recovery mode or does it have outdated firmware involved?
@@OfficialZunity Its version 2.2 Zune 30gb. The laptop sees it and its name ( previous owner ) but doesn’t show the music on it or the photos.
You should be able to update it fine, though some folks do seem to run into unexplained issues. I’d try reinstalling the software, restart the PC and try again.
@@OfficialZunity Thank you for the video and follow up replies. I’ll give it another try.
No problem and good luck 👍

I"m on Windows 10 so i can't even set up a Zune account.

the update "worked", but when I was going through setup, I chose manual sync for everything and it wiped my entire zune. I'm so upset. I don't know how to get it back. There was 16 years of music on there.
That will unfortunately occur any time you connect a “new” Zune to the software. If you decide to pair it before backing up your device it will replace the data on the Zune with whatever it has in your desktop library.
I’m sorry it happened to you, but it’s completely unrelated to the firmware update in that respect.
how on gods green earth do i put videos on my zune? pls help.

Can't even get my PC to read my zune!

The server is still valid and works fine.
i did all the steps
but my Zune when it is updating is stuck in the second step at 25% and starts again and again
I do not know what to do
Does it give you an error?
@@OfficialZunity yes the update doesn't finish because the zune reboots and disconnects
It’s possible your Zune has a fried motherboard or a failing hard drive
@@leep7311 My final piece of advice is to perform a factory reset, that will hopefully clear out any corrupted files that may be causing the boot loop (could be the hard drive or motherboard, but it’s worth a try).
Hold both the back and top buttons until the Zune starts to restart. When it does, immediately press and hold the back, left, and center buttons on the pad. This will cause the Zune to restart again, and display "Please wait," followed by "Clearing contents. Please wait." When it’s finished, try updating again.
