I am a long life Pink Floyd fan, 67 y old Dutch bloke, and have seen them several times. Nightwish belongs to my favorite bands since some 4 years after witnessing one of Floor's first solo shows. This is the ultimate tribute from an exceptional band to an exceptional band!
This is probably the greatest tribute of all time. ⛄👍 Well, Emppu might look and act like a little funny midget, but actually he is a black belt judoka and one of the most intelligent guitar players out there. 🎸😅
….and he is one of the most sympathetic members of the band. The way hè does his rounds checking on them all during life performances. I also noticed this at Floor’s return after her breast cancer diagnosis. He has a lot of empathy for others.
This is one of my favorite Nightwish songs because it gives every single member of the band a chance to shine. Naturally, in most songs, the focal point is the lead singer. And, when you have had the fantastic leads that Nightwish has had, sometimes the other member of the band aren't noticed as much. The guys were fantastic in this one. Tuomas on keys, holding the entire song together, the fantastic drumwork by Jukka. Add to that the absolutely marvelous work that Emppu did in guitar and crown it all with Marko really getting a chance to show off what he can do. That man can get more emotion into one note than most singers can in an entire song. They really are, each and every one of them, extraordinary.
Check out Wintersun "Sons of Winter and Stars" (Live rehearsals at Sonic Pump Studios) The Nightwish Army introduced me to this band. BTW the drummer and bassist now play with Nightwish.
After this grand tribute to Pink Floyd, respond as well to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s gothic rock anthem, The Phantom Of The Opera from this same 2005 Nightwish "End Of An Era" consert. It is said, that this duet version with the original singer Tarja and Marco, Andrew Lloyd Webber prefers to any other of the hundreds that have been made since his original creation. The way Tarja Turunen reaches a series of very high notes, is sensational. Marco Hietala as ‘The Phantom’ absolutely nails the part. Together they are without doubt the most dynamic pairing in these roles ever.
End of an Era was the 21st of Oct, 2005 in Hartwall Arena ,Helsinki. Last show on the 'Once" album tour, and last Nightwish concert with original lead singer Tarja Turunen, she was offstage for a wardrobe change during this song (#8 of 18). Tarja was fired after the concert. Rumor has it David Gilmour has seen this, and loved it. Marko is awesome, and yes he is a lead singer. He sang lead in his first band Tarot, formed with his brother at age 16. Very tastful and awesome tribute to Gilmour's guitar work by Emppu. I believe it's a Warwick Infinity.
That is my dream bass, the Warwick Infinity NT4, semi-hollow, absolutely gorgeous! Maybe I’ll win the lottery, for now I do love my Warwick Vampyre, even though the Chinese model is the only one I could afford😂 I just recently went through Marko’s catalog with Tarot, lot of great music there. “Tides” live is a solid start if you’re interested.
Marko was an established frontman/vocalist of his own bamd Tarot already for ~15 years before joining NW. But he didn't have that many leading parts during his time in the band, but as we know the vocal parts he had, he smashed. And he's a decent enough bassist ( and guitarist) 😉
First. What a Tribut from one awesome Band to another awesome Band. And you are right, Marko sings it very very good. But Floor is another League as a Singer
I know I might get blasted for this, but I’ve always liked this better than the original. Also worth mentioning, Marko once said he loves singing with Floor because he doesn’t have to hold back.
Awesome brother! I'm not very familiar with Division Bell either, but because of this I've gone back and listened to it and it's a damn good record! Cheers mate!🤘❤🤘
Emppu is known that he plays for the song, not for himself to be more visible. He always plays what the song needs to be perfect. Emppu is a real professional with a great sense for the accuracy and precision in his playing. That's why you can't see him overplay...
Hello again, Old Man Metal Dude. Another great reaction to our beloved Nightwish. Marko and the band absolutely killing this tribute to the legendary Pink Floyd. Loved it.
This a masterful tribute! Love your reactions, and journey! I too am an old school Metalhead, and did get stuck in time with my 70’s and 80’s metal bands following the journeys they took. But thanks to RUclips, for opening my eyes to other bands, Nightwish are pigeonholed as Symphonic Metal, but they can thrash, speed, even introduce Death Metal elements, they can pretty much play any genre of Metal and Rock. I must admit I heard them with the original singer back in the 90’s, and they 13:16 weren’t my taste then. But once I seen the live performance at Wacken, I was instantly hooked, they are all fantastic muso’s, and Floor’s vocals and her versatility blew me away. Must be 10 years since I seen and heard that Wacken performance, and the songs are just timeless.
marko was actually frontman for the band tarot for years ,plus he has about a million side projects, like powerless trio, all hietala power trioa bunch of finnish stuff,he won masked singer finland where he sang Prince,Elton John& backstreet boys songs.he just rekeased a new sing wuth Tarja,& one with exit eden
Great reaction, thank you very much. Yes, all members of the band are outstanding artists who just play for the song instead of showing off - no egos on stage. And Floor seemed to like it to give Marco the lead from time to time and herself sing the backvocals (The Islander, While your lips are still red). After hearing this tribute and looking at his great singing parts for example in "Ghost River" I really can understand why. He is such a great singer and her "older brother" - watch this: ruclips.net/video/ut6ufu2CPNg/видео.html. The end is so moving and you can see here how much they like each other. I also recommend "River of time" (ruclips.net/video/bieFc3WhBKw/видео.html) and "Age of Shadows" (ruclips.net/video/DGv1RwhpvZY/видео.html) from Ayreon - here you can hear Marco sing together with Hansi Kürsch (from Blind Guardian) and in the second song also with Floor.
I hate love about this band is none of them hog the spotlight. Everyone. Is given their moment to shine and the rest of the band is happy to be supportive. Marko is very accomplished . He sings well with Floor. He also is the lead in a few other songs. While your lips are still red @ wembly area is a good one
Warwick Vampyre. Melancholy, eerie, regretful, reminiscing like Pink Floyd but Nightwish WOULD NOT give in to it! All were suffering knowing what was coming at the end of this gig! Still, a magnificent tribute to an iconic band from an iconic band!
❤. Not throwing any shade at NW, I love this tribute, but you owe it to yourself to listen to the PF version from the Pulse concert now. Great reaction!
I loved the cover, it was on point, However your knowledge of the track and reaction i found more impressive, because you know what you are talking about cudos
Pink Floyd Fan for Life....but this one is just........better. Haunting Keyboard....GREAT Vocals......brillant Guitar Solo...driving drums on point.....this is one of the rare Occasions where I like the Cover better then the already good original. Just my opinion.
You wondered a few days ago about the heights of Floor and Marko, Here is a duet they did together for Christmas. Just to get an idea of them standing next together. ruclips.net/video/ut6ufu2CPNg/видео.htmlsi=aqHv61_qx_--BHqM
@OMMD: and still you have seen nothing yet. Floor was becoming a member after these shows and Tuomas got a "new instrument" with her to explore the universe. It is sick what is coming. Don't forget - most of these songs have been written for Anett Olzen. She was good, but not even close to Tarja or Floor 😂. But NOW you really should dive into the 2nd unbelievable Symphonic Metal Band > EPICA 😂. Start with "Code of Live" AFAS live. Will blow your mind completly. AND you need to dive deeper into J-Metal. TRUST ME. You did BM (loce them) - you need LOVEBITES "Holy War" live Tokyo 2020 & BAND MAID "Hate" live. Your life will never be the same. BIG promise 😂
After Momentary Lapse I wasn't sure if the new PF, but Division Bell is more interesting for me.... this is more of a tribute than a cover to me....not my style but Tarot doing Wings of Darkness will impress with Marco's vocals
"GEAR GODS RIGGED - Nightwish" - here's 2015 view of the stuff they used then... And still use (xept Marko and his basses or the Beast) ruclips.net/video/6dhSkfbHXJc/видео.html
Very beautiful but i like more the Pink Floyd version. As a tribute to them i like it. Good reaction to this great cover bi Nightwish. I also see you have not done a reaction to Lovebites 1 of the best metal bands on the planet at the moment check out there track Holy War live or there cover of Judas Priest's Painkiller.

Marko & Floor are amazing when they sing together. I miss that since Marko left the band.

Sir! What a pleasant presence of You...a cool and deep and honest view on the most fantastic band in the world! All the best from The Netherlands!
it is nice to see your great reaction
This was a tribute more than a cover!🎸🤘
An old musician habit. we tend to refer to any rendition of another artist music as a cover. I certainly mean no disrespect to Nightwish at all
Me encantó tu reacción! ❤ Te espero con Tarja también .todo de ellos es hermoso😊 saludos cynthia de Argentina

That was another fantastic reaction, thanks man 😊
Great tribute to my favorite PF song. Feeling is right, Marco is great and like you mentioned, Emppu got tunes, emotions and skills on spot.
Thank you for doing this one!
Marco is always awsome no matter what he sing Check out his cover of Black Sabbaths War Pigs live in Prague 2020. absolutely brilliant.
Empuu playes his signature EV-1 wich is based off of the ESP Horizon And Marco playes his Warwick Vampyre 4 string bass.
Well done Nightwish and well done Oldmanmetaldude! 🇬🇧🤘🤘
If you want to hear a more softer sound from Marko, you should also react to While Your Lips are Still Red live at Wembley.
Marko used to be the lead singer of a band called Tarot. He did have some vocal chrod dmg after that. 😢
