I loved how they mention Hamilton, and then have the Professor reference Hamilton later with the line "You think l'm not prepared for you? I've been waiting in the wings!"
The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals is honestly one of my faves of all time.

The chorus of Hadestowns "why we build the wall" also builds upon itself like a wall. In every chorus there is one line added on top of the preexisting chorus.

Exactly, I love Six ❤❤❤❤😍😍😍
I'm British and even I learned a lot from Six, and we learn about the tudors.....a lot.
The British learnt from horrible histories
Space Otter Horrible Histories taught a lot of things but not a whole lot about the wives themselves - but then again, it’d probably be hard to make Katherine Howard’s story funny or kid friendly.

Also there's like a 7 page song about steak
And one in the Sune musical, if you want to know what Sune is you are clearly not a true Swede
I think a fantastic example is, “West Side Story.” It broke boundaries when it appeared. “Romeo and Juliet as a modern New York gang war? Yeah. Sure. That’ll work.” And it did!!! It paved the way for theater through its songs, choreography, direction, etc. it still puts me in awe.
Oh shit, that’s what it’s about? I’ve never seen or heard it. Sounds great.
I’m not sure if this was started by West Side Story, but tons of Shakespeare adaptations are set in the modern day or in alternative settings
also the fact that it told about the struggles of immigrants and hispanics in america in that time period which was very shocking for its audience at the time
Now that Schaff has referenced Starkid, I need him to review The guy who didn't like musicals, twisted, or firebringer. Although I won't mind hearing more about Heathers. I love me some Heathers.

I mean...qho needs to see it when you hsve one uploaded to y- MINECRAFT TUTORIAL
On one hand yep that shit is too expansive which is why I'll probably never see a Broadway play on Broadway, but on the other Hamilton is more accessible then most since they both have the whole ocr on Spotify, and the story only happens in the music.
So even if one weren't too go for less official methods that Sarah Z might have talked about in a video for example, anyone with internet access can enjoy the story in some way.

People who don't like musicals because people randomly burst into song have obviously never been to my house
Don't you ever feel the need to express your thoughts in a rhyming monologue, with stirring strings in the background?
My stepfather hates musicals, I love them, so Everytime I'm in the tv seeing one he starts rambling about how it doesn't make any sense and I'm like "you just don't get it"
I barely keep from bursting into random song everywhere. The only concession I make is singing softly or going into the next room, and frankly the journey home at night is always the best part of my day for the sole reason that i do not care enough about strangers to not sing out loud in public. This was even before I discovered musicals were a thing, so I can confirm that musicals are real

I thought that Burr was the narrator because of the emphasis on how he prefers to stand on the side and watch how things play out instead of always taking action.
If you think about it, with some minor tweaking of the book and lyrics, that would actually work and I would LOVE it

Hamilton - adapted from history/a book that Miranda happened to stumble upon
Heathers - adapted from a cult movie
Be More Chill - adapted from an obscure book
Dear Evan Hansen - ...
DEH is also a book.
The book was made after the musical was released. The story was based off of something that happened during one of the creator’s high school years. Basically, a kid died and everyone started trying to jump in and claim they knew him well.
Dear Evan Hansen is an original script musical. The book came out later.

I like how Hamilton (the musical) actually makes Burr a better person than he was in real life. In the musical, he's concerned with upholding the legacy set forth by his parents, but in real life, he was a selfish and manipulative little man who eventually moved to Louisiana in an attempt to profit off of war with Spain, leading to Jefferson trying (and failing) several times to get him convicted of treason. He also had a strong desire to conquer Mexico for whatever reason, and to do this was soliciting funds in England for a while. He was eventually kicked out of the country, tried to flee to France, was booted by Napoleon, and ended up back in America. Somewhat ironically, his divorce lawyer was Hamilton's 3rd son.
Yea, this is why I really like Lin's storytelling. He makes us feels sympathy for someone who's supposed to be the villain, and died over 200 years ago.
His ex-wife's divorce lawyer actually, and even more of a power move, the son was named Alexander Hamilton Jr. Also Burr died the day the divorce was finalised. Poetic_cinema.jpg
It's just crazy, sounds fake but it actually happened.
The musical makes ALL of them seem better than they were. Hamilton was a super-capatalist shithead who didn't care much about immigrants despite being one and arranged the purchasing of slaves for his in-laws, George Washington was a slave owner who did NOT free his slaves upon his death (his wife did a year later because she hated living surrounded by people waiting for her to die), Hercules Mulligan was also a slave owner who relied on his slave Kato to do a LOT of the spy work for him, Angelica Schuyler met Hamilton TWO YEARS after Eliza married him and still had an emotional affair with him (so her entire character arc/conflict is bs. Also she had older brothers), Lafayette was...actually pretty cool ngl, and Jefferson was a slave owning pedophile rapist who kept his own children as slaves (just read Sally Hemings wikipedia page it is so much worse than just that ohmygod). Soooo yeah a bunch of completely shit people being presented as sympathetic.
@@nicolersands Yeah, that's exactly why I've always taken issue with the show and throw up a little in my mouth when I hear it getting praise - infact a friend of mine who is way less restrained in their hatred of the show on that basis was joking about how Lin's next project will be about rehabilitating Hitler lol

I mean, Via Galactica! was in the ‘70s. Broadway has been weird for a very long time - it’s only in the past 15-20 years or so that “weird” has made the leap to mainstream
Hadestown is flawless and it’s my favorite thing ever and I’m so happy it exists
Not even a mention of Pokemon Live. Also I can't tell if Schriffillas likes Mean Girls the Musical or not?
"You're such a goody-two-shoes, it's more fun being bad!"
mean girls isn't really a weird adaptation, it stays quite true to the film, or at least the feeling of it. it wouldn't apply to this video
pokémon live is a fucking bop
"While not being interested in any other portion of War and Peace whatsoever" okay fair BUT, despite its length, war and peace absolutely slaps. watch the bbc series for a general idea of the rest of the plot and mental images of the characters that don't appear in great comet, then read it or get an audiobook, because not only is it fun to brag about, but it goes fucking HARD. I recommend listening to the great comet soundtrack as you go when you get to volume 2 part 5 though, because you will appreciate Malloy's skills as an adaptor much more once you realise JUST HOW MANY of the lines are ripped right out of the book
XD I have the show basically memorized so I could just see it by reading it though I read a different translation than what Dave used. So for me, I loved all the character melodrama like was in the show, but didn't care the slightest for the war bits or the endless philosophizing bits so it was intermittently enjoyable. Sometimes really slow, sometimes great. The great comet bit is far from the only good bit, gotta say. Aside from the shitshow of an epilogue, it did have some wonderful conclusions to several character arcs before the epilogue. Also I just hope that maybe someday Dave will go revisit Moby Dick and rewrite it a bunch because the songs are amazing and he clearly knows what he is doing mostly, but a lot of that show was just a big mess and would really benefit from him actually listening to people of colour rather than speaking for them and getting mad at their negative reactions to his (often) bullheaded writing.
Omg yes the musical is why I decided to thrift the book and read it so I can understand it better and I’m obsessed. I already caught where the lyrics in “no one else” came from.
Please..... Revive....... Great comet
Edit: please find a way to bring up Amber gray
Edit 2: the lack of Amber gray is deeply upsetting
C.J Hamblin I-

I'm still waiting for the musical adaptation of the live action remake of the _animated_ remake of the novelization of the musical adaptation of the screen play of Shrek
Wait, it's "sheyf"-rillas? I've been pronouncing it "SHAFF-rill-ass" in my head, first syllable like "shaft" without the "T"
Wait, shauff, or shahff?
Could you talk about Starkid’s The Trail to Oregon? I think it’s a really fun musical and I’d love to hear your opinion on it.
Beth M Oooooh, I would love this. I think it’s easily their best musical
@@sunniva1717 I’d put The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals above it but it’s definitely one of the best.
@@sunniva1717 I'd put Twisted above TTO for sure, but it's definitely good
10:56 watch out the ten people in the 1776 fandom are about to be mad

WE WILL FIGHT YOU AND WIN. IT WAS THE OG HAMILTON AND IT DID IT GLORIOUSLY although in this house we love and respect lin manuel miranda because he is a god
I'm a fan of 1776 and I'm here to fiGHT
You should make a video exclusively on Shrek the musical and how it doesn’t work
Waaa I loooveee Shrek The Musical. Its really funny and there are so many innuendos hidden in a seemingly kids musical
I actually love the music in Shrek the musical, but was so disappointed to find that 90% of the script was exactly the same and the only huge change was Fiona being mentally ill from being locked away for 20 years. Which was great.
@@Jill4ChrisRedfeild I'm confused. How is that disappointing?
@@smallvoices9564 I felt as though they could have done something more exciting with the script, changed up some of the dialogue or story beats or something different. Besides the music, and the inclusion that Shrek and Ffiona were forced to be alone from a young age, I don't think the musical added anything more to the story that was already there and they really could have expanded upon a few things. Instead the script is cut almost word for word from the film so any time someone isnt singing, the story is what we've heard before and as someone who kiiinda obsesses over Shrek and has watched it since it came out in theaters as a 6 year old, the musical adaptation when there is no music is boring haha
@@Jill4ChrisRedfeild thanks for explaining
To be fair, depression era Greek adaptations isn't new. Oh Brother Where Art Thou? did it first.
Sharpe1502 yeah it was a soft retelling of the Odyssey.
Black Posydon So was the first Sponge Bob movie
Still waiting on that Shark Tale musical

The heathers musical is beautiful.
When I was in high school we did les mis twice, once normaly and then we did it as if it were set in a post-apocalyptic civilisation. It actually worked really well. We even managed to win an award at our state.
I feel like a personal RUclips recommendation, on stage, to a crowd, is the most genuine compliment you could receive about a RUclips video.
