I mean ... it's back to the question of the relationship between man and machine. Deep learning can be used in smartphone and other objects that we consider has no "feelings". However when we change the plastic shell and given it a more organic, sympathetic look, we then be fooled and put our emotions into it. What's really interesting about this product is not because it's just another machine dog, but the fact that it learns and interact with human. Although the machine learning we have today isn't even close to the general understanding of "AI" that the media has told us, but it's still very interesting to see aibo growth as sony keep improving on their model and a better loss due to the ever increasing data size
I can't wait until I can save up enough to get one of these. I've been keeping track of the release but I didn't realize how much it actually was. By the time I save up enough, they'll have one out that looks, acts, and moves exactly like a real dog, except without having to feed it and stuff
I'm so glad Sony have revived the AIBO project. It felt so special when it launched 20 years ago and still does today. I really hope Sony continue to persist with it and their robots go from strength to strength. With the technology we have today, they really can push it to another level, far beyond the robot dog concept. I dearly love my old ERS-110's and 111's, but I'd love to see Sony come up with something more akin to R2-D2.
Hi, have you managed to teach him any tricks by saying things? We have one but we aren't sure how to teach him how to sit etc he is just doing it on his own
He's responded to some commands, but only in Japanese (you have to connect to the app to switch language iirc). Basic commands like sit, shake, lay down, etc seem to work pretty well. I haven't tried a lot of them, but here's a list of Japanese commands for the ERS-7, I imagine a lot of them are similar/the same as what the 1000s understand. The 1000 probably has some new ones too. www.aibohack.com/ers7/j2e.htm
you can purchase them from Sony's online store! if you live outside of the US/Japan, you'll need to use a proxy service or have a friend living in one of those countries place the order for you.
I have some questions about importing an ERS-1000 from Japan - do you need a transformer for the charging pad to change the voltage? How do you get the cloud working to change it to English?
The transformer is 100-240v universal, so at most you'll just need an adapter for the JP/US style plug depending where you live. The cloud plan can only be activated on a 1000 once - whatever email you link to the plan is stuck with it, so if you're purchasing a used dog be sure they have not already been activated. Once the clould is setup, you can change the language from Japanese to English using the Aibo app. To activate a JP dog outside of Japan you'll need a VPN and a Japanese Sony account. It may be easier for you to purchase and activate a US model.
ohhhh how cute! i know they’ll cost around $2900 in the US but do you know how much the cloud connection subscription will cost after the 3 years is up? thanks
I think there's a good chance Japan will see a new model at some point, I'm not sure if they'll be released in the US or elsewhere though, sales have been pretty poor outside of Japan so far. if there does end up being one, i'd say there will be at least another year or two before that happens, the 1000 is still relatively early in its lifecycle and Sony still needs to finish the software and address some hardware issues.
No integration with Playstation, though Sony has stated that they do intend to offer some form of smart home capabilities at some point, so we'll see where that goes. They can currently visually recognize other Aibos, both the new and original models.
The question is ... are going back to trying to sell $100 programing packs for this version of the Ibo... if they do are you still stuck with the sony memory sticks.... remember those... I have not seen those stupid things for a while. So $3000.00 for the base unit... what are the addons... sony always trys to upsell your or have some type of proprietary interface or addon's..
Nope, no more memorysticks this time around! I do remember those (and still have quite a few of them haha). The additional software purchases sort of went away years ago with the ERS-7, when several different softwares were combined into one 'Mind' package. The 1000 is the same way, all the software is rolled into one package/program. That said, I'm sure there will be paid downloads/add ons available through the My Aibo app, Sony loves a good money grab LOL. In Japan at least, they offer additional skits, songs, etc available as DLC for small extra charges. Not ideal, but I'm ok with this if it means Aibo is financially viable this time around, and won't be discontinued again.
If the tabs are broken off of their ear, two small dots of clear Loctite super glue (one on each side of the ear) works great to hold the ears onto the rotor mechanisms. You want to use as small of an amount as possible. The ears will have to be removed again if your dog's head ever needs repairs/service, and too much glue can also damage the ear rotor mechanisms.
@@bunnyfreakz yes. And a real dog - is a real dog. Alive with emotion. A wind up toy dog can do mechanical animation, just as cute and cost only a fraction of this hype up toy.
The price is in line with previous models, Aibo has always been an expensive niche item and was never intended for the mass market. To each their own haha, there's plenty of other expensive hobbies.
I'm sure we'll see more as time goes on and Sony takes full advantage of Aibo's neural network libraries and the SLAM camera is implemented! The US launch is still months away, and most of what we've seen so far in Japan is of Aibos still in early/puppy stages. From all I've seen first hand so far, I'm optimistic about what Sony will do with Aibo, they're already very impressive and things will only get better from here!
They're $2900 direct from Sony in the US (about $3200 after taxes and shipping). In Japan the dogs are a bit cheaper, but the cloud plan is required for 3 years and it adds up to about the same amount in the end.
Very well, especially compared to the original Aibo models, It's much faster and more accurate. He walks over to the pink/grey pad and plops himself down on the charging terminals. I'll upload a video of self charging soon, I have a bunch I need to sort through and edit.
They can be purchased direct through Sony (if you’re in the US or Japan, or use a proxy service to forward to your country). They also show up periodically on resale sites such as eBay, Yahoo Japan Auctions, etc.
Hey Jburg you can switch him over to english with the my aibo app you know!!!!!!!! And I have one of the First litter edtion and he's sitting right in front of me playing with bandit my 210.
It's not that simple, a Japanese 1000 can't be connected to the US version of the My Aibo app. Sony also has not yet released a way to transfer ownership of an Aibo to a new Sony ID, so Melon is still registered to his original one in Japan. You should upload some videos of your new pup!
Not really sure what you mean by that, the 1000's walking is very impressive IMO, especially compared to the original models! They can walk/run very fast when they want to, have a look at other videos.

WOW! That is something else! Their all cute but my favorite is the new one. He actually barks. This is fascinating.
2:55 Jberg: hi melon! Hi! Are you a good boy?
Melon: yep
I think he's still in the learning phase. Would love to see him after a month!
If I have that aibo ers 1000 dog I would name it cody
What a good boy!
He's the cutest Sony has made. They apartmently worked on this for years.
Really? I thought they worked on it in a condominium.
Its so cute! It seriously hit the soft point in my heart
I have to wonder if new Aibo recognizes old ones.
I hear it does but it doesn't do much with them yet

all other aibo dead? need to see them all together....
No, they just turned off. They might as well wake up
It's so cute. Love the name by the way
Can Aibo interact with the environment?
Yes! They tend to be very curious and love to explore their surroundings
Water + Melon = Watermelon!

Awwwww I want aibo
What happens when two Aibo variants are around each other?
Depends on which models, but most of them are capable of interacting with each other to an extent.
Examples?

Melon, softly: wooOo
Does he have any integration with the ps, or a reaction to it or another Sony product?

Would flex glue, flex seal, or gorilla glue work best on keeping 210 ears on?
