Thought it was gonna be stiff and 'programmed' but golly it's just too adorable! Hope they come out with customization: felted ears, different body patterns, eye colors, a leash, maybe even clothes and booties. And in the future... An even smaller size. 😊
You can buy different coloured ears and tail for it and you can change the eye colours in an app for it. You can use a real dog collar and leash for it, as well. You can buy collars and outfits for them, they're just a bit expensive.

I lost my baby earlier this month, I was holding him in my arms when he passed. It’s been so hard for me to live this new reality. I half expect to see him when I return from work or after shopping trips, typing this already has me teary eyed. My friends say to adopt another doggie, not as a replacement, but as a friend to love & care for. I can’t. I don’t want to and I can’t see myself with another doggie. He’s irreplaceable, and I just can’t imagine owning another. I feel like this might be perfect for those who may be in my shoes. It’s been so hard for me the last two weeks. It feels like he’s still here even though I know he’s not. If I had 3k to toss, I’d definitely consider purchasing this for myself.
@YandereBunnydoll, I am so sorry for your loss. I had to put my baby girl down 6 weeks ago and I completely relate to your comment. I joined an online pet loss grief support group called Pet Cloud USA which has been helpful (for me anyway). I don’t know if it will help you, but wanted to share. The grief is real and my heart is still broken. I actually googled robot dog because I started wishing I could have a dog that would live forever. I can’t afford the price tag for Aido, but I would buy him in a heartbeat if I could. Best wishes for strength and peace.
I feel for you and I've been there. I still grieve for pets that died years ago. However mental health is extremely important to probably just as important as physical health. So you can make payments on this puppy and if it brings you companionship happiness and joy for the rest of your life in my opinion worth every penny.❤

While I continue to grieve my baby, it doesn’t hurt as much anymore. I continue to wear him in a little necklace just about every day. I never thought I’d be here with a new baby, but he’s helped me a lot. My Cappy was a hugger, always wanted to be carried, always wanted a hug.. this little guy, his name is Jack, he’s a kisser. Constantly kissing, always jumping to be picked up and held. In lots of ways he reminds me of my Cappy, and in a lots of ways he’s his unique self. It’s probably weird for me to say this lol but part of me feels like me meeting Jack was meant to be.

Awesome idea. However, I am a little conflicted about having my old dog back (died 3 years ago of old age). I do love the idea of having an Aibo dog around because it won't be humping everybody's leg all the time. The Aibo will also be much cheaper in the long run (no vet bills, no dog food to buy, no shot record crap to worry about, no fleas or ticks to be concerned about).

All the people in the comments (pet owners, most likely) feel so attacked right now, dismissing it and saying how it doesn’t compare to the real deal. Of course it doesn’t, that’s not the point. It’s not out to replace your dog, it’s just a cool display of tech, a toy meant to replicate somewhat of dog behavior. Lol
I have a dog and i would also want this lol.
I guess pet owners (I don't own any pets) would be quick to tell you that the emotional connection with this dealie would be a one-way street. Animals have real emotions and can give love back, whereas this gizmo obviously can't, since it's just programmed reactions. But yeah, room for both. Things like this, and the Anki Vector/Cozmo make me wonder about how in the distant future we'll treat emotions, if we'll think of them as 'real' or not - that part sort of irks me a little.

I loved your reaction to the dog as much as watching the dog itself, when you say "Find the bone" and he looks straight at you, hilarious and surprisingly realistic for a robot. Just yesterday watched a human robot on the tv but her eyes freaked me out, just a wee bit scary as opposed to aibo, super cute. But sooooo expensive.

Damn! I remember my dad bring over one of the earlier versions from Japan in very early 2010. It moved slower with less range of motion, didn't turn its head to you, had less commands and was generally confusing its behaviour. Also didn't have so many different sounds but even so it brings back memories.

I didn't know Sony launched a new AIBO dog. I have two of the original dogs 1999 ERS-110 (paid nearly $5K each) and one 2006 ERS-7M3 (paid $3K). Back in the day these were a hit at the office, used to bring them into work and turn them loose.

I love how Dedicated Sony is to their tech. They took the time to make the calibration routine look like how a real dog would wake up from a nap like. Their hardware may be expensive, but their software at least matches the quality of the hardware.
Cant say I am going to run out and buy one, but you can at least see if you had the money it would be worth most of it.

TBH it doesn't look as much progress since first AIBO (19 years ago), I would say that first one was waaay cooler looking - more sci-fi like :D New one is just creepy :F
The fluid motion and mechanics will see exponential improvements, in 20 years the robots will make this look like some 1900s vintage robot.

Husband just got one for our kids they absolutely fell right in love with it. It's a incredible toy. Hefty little price for it but if you can afford it I highly recommend
