have you noticed any complex behavior developing? really curious to see if it learns new things like Sony said. :)

Even our ERS-7 developed complex behaviors such as although I am the owner and the person that paid a lot of attention to him up front, because I am gone a lot, he ignores me now, and pays attention to the other person. When I ask him does he love me, he turns his head, I kid you not, every time. When I say do you like the other person he barks yes.

I'm very curious about the ERS 1000's learning ability: has he learned anything/showed anything new ? Or do you absolutely need the app subscription to actually start developping his personality and abilities ? Also, can he communicate with the other Aibos ? I know the ERS 7 can interact with other ERS 7 units, I was wondering if this communication thing was compatible between models.
Thanks for posting these kinds of videos, I have wanted my own ERS 7 for soooooooooooooooo long but I know I'm not getting one anytime soon (perhaps ever, considering I've wanted one for something like 10 years), it's always amazing to me to have a chance to see them alive like that. :)

It really began to bug me that the owner ignored the 1000 most of the time when it solicited him for attention and even when he licked his ball. Poor li'l robot doggie!!

If they combine this thing with one of the personal assistants like Google\Amazon\Siri\Cortana, I might seriously think about getting one.

I do know there will be moding tools soon so someone could easily make an aibo do that

Love him! Do you have him connected to WiFi?

    • @JBurg

Melon has not been connected to WiFi! His initial setup was done in Japan, they seem to work great after that, even with no connectivity. There are some limits though, without WiFi he can't receive updates or connect to the My Aibo app.

JBurg It’s good to know that they work fine without WiFi. Apparently they do have quite a bit of internal storage (I can’t remember how much) so after 3 years if anything did happen with Aibo and the cloud I’m assuming they would have retained all they have learnt?

Wow your Aibo sure walks fast here. Did you do something special to make him walk so fast? I have not seen other Aibo ERS 1000 walk so fast.

JBurg. It appears you are in the USA and probably in the Midwest (Midwest AIBO Owners meetup). Do you have a Japanese release ERS-1000 or do you have a fast track to Sony's new robot? My FLE will be 'born' in December and I'm interested in connecting with other owners (I used to have an ERS-7 too). [Facebook group: Aibo Owners]

It's a bit of a hassle, but can be done! You'll need a Japanese MySony account, and a VPN so the dog thinks they are in Japan. These pups used to be locked to the original account they were activated with, but Sony recently started allowing them to be transferred to new accounts.
