- I bid reserve for this month and got a really nice trip. Come with me on the last two legs home through Las Vegas. We get a call from scheduling that always brings a little fear with it;-)
Hope you all enjoy it. Cheers!

Thank you for the full ATC comms. Please keep them coming. I might just enter your routes on my sim from times to times.
@@flycow69 Yessir!
I am just blown away at all the AMAZING education pilots obtain over the years the passion ya'all have for your field .your expertise is un comparable
I'm glad to hear you have positives comments to say about the MAX. There is so much negativity surrounding the aircraft that it's really refreshing to hear.
The comms and the taxi diagrams/ Jepp plates are awesome
Really enjoying the ATC comms and showing parts of the route.
Speaking for myself, the atc and maps add a whole new level to these videos. Thanks for sharing
Flying right over my house! Excellent ❤
Yep they fly over my house as well I sit on my patio and watch them coming in to San Antonio international Airport .I can even see the wheels down what a serge. Gets my blood moving and ♥ pumping I should have become a pilot. Watching the video sooooo much I really think I cld land this aircraft in an emergency .big ern of course wld be my instructor
You really stepped up your production values.Awesome integration of real-time ATC.
With total situation all awareness
@@wespotter6985 I appreciate that👍🏽
Loving how quickly and consistently your videos are coming out! Always great vids and a lot of great information!
This was a good one Ern..Like the ATC added to it..reminded me of my days as a PATCO controller at ZDC
Loving that MAX, it's a great looking aircraft...
Interesting napkin data, unique way of doing things.
I like interspersing the exterior shots of the flight aircraft with the ATC audio and the flight maps. It makes these videos even more interesting.
Great video. Love your positive outlook, and the maps with the ATC communications is really cool.
Happy you stopped over in my city of San Antonio. Wish I cld have met up with the greatest pilot ever b safe and may God always be your co pilot ❤ ❤❤❤
Thank you for your response. You are the best of the best and southwest is always my favorite airlines
I liked the ATC comms and map, pretty cool! 👍
Nice change from prior videos where you leave one gate and suddenly are arrival at the next. The overlay graphic with ATC audio to show the progression of the flight portion (following FAA regulations) is amazingly good. It inspires me to work harder on my path to the airlines... if you could help me turning back the calendar three dozen years.!!
I like that addition to the video as well! Theres another aviation channel called INZEAIR84 who are air france pilots, also great content :)
@@Andykev I appreciate that!
So glad you got to go home…you know how reserve is
@@kirkb2286 I do for sure. Got lucky👍🏽
Love the ATC and charts.
Im grounded by the FAA. Glad your doing it for me brother! Keep flying
Hey! Thanks for giving me credit on the footage. You are welcome to use it anytime!
@@Querque_Planes Of course! Thanks for the great footage. Keep it up!👍🏽
Love the videos and the new charts. Might be cool to see little comments on the charts explaining the numbers and graphics for us non-pilot fans. 🤙🏼
@@gregjohnson8859 Great idea! Thanks!
Man videos are great. I am really looking forward to potentially working for Southwest in the near future. Good job Ernie!!
Love flying in to SBA, I got relatives who live there so I try to visit yearly. Sadly flying American there as Southwest doesn't fly in to XNA currently. Let the bosses know there is definitely interest here at XNA for Southwest!
I LOVE the ATC and moving maps.... You ROCK, Capt!!!
@@lvsluggo007 Thank you!
Can't imagine how much editing you have to go through to give us these visuals and ATC audio. But it's greatly appreciated. Another great video as always.
@@minitrundle Have to give the credit to our editor Ron. He’s the man!
Love the format with the map and ATC. I know that adds a ton of work to editing, but it is a big improvement. Thanks!
Another excellent vlog. Thank you.
Great Video. If I'm not flying the Cherokee or Conquest 2 to our destinations then we fly commercial with Southwest. Going to KSEA from STL in few weeks and sure wish you were flying it!
@@firepilot109 You never know🤙🏽
Really love your videos, keep em coming
I also enjoy the atc along with the waypoint moving maps!
Only fly the MSFS, but love the enroute ATC.
BigErn, interesting to note when your FAs are required to be at the gate. My airline is the same. If they aren't there at an hour, the station is calling us looking for them. They seem incredulous that 30 min at the gate is the requirement
As far as content suggestions, maybe even for the podcast, some insight on Aviation Dispatch careers. I went through flight training up to CFI and couldn't fully get over motion sickness and ran into financial blockades, but have been thinking about making the jump to a dispatch career, and keeping flying as a hobby. Looks like its a very behind the scenes role that doesnt get a lot of credit!
@@gavindunning6094 Great idea👍🏽
That was great , love this kind of video.
liked the video. like ATC as well
I've flown the BRUSR! 🎉 I'm really enjoying the ridealongs with ATC and Jepps, well done.
@@PoweredByChoro I’m glad you like them👍🏽
@@PoweredByChoro I’m glad you like them👍🏽
So so cool to see!!! ❤
Thanks for adding the ATC and visuals!
Another FANTASTIC video .... like always!!! Thanks BigErn
Reserve is fun.
Yes! @FlyingwithBirgErn! MORE DISPATCH! Get Sierra Victor some screen time! (Careful tho... some 'spatchers SCARY good! LMAO!)
@@bcg2g I plan to soon! Hopefully I can pull it off but I’d like to spend a day with them and highlight the great work they do.
Ernie its good to hear someone speaking positively about a Max my thoughts are if they were the devil the media paint them Pilots like yourself wouldnt fly them ,Virgin Australia have 35 on order and the media are already fear mongering saying dont fly on the Max ,and to make matters worse Qantas are retiring their 737 fleet and the replacement is Airbus 321 family, are you able to comment mate .
Cheers kym
Adelaide
Love the ATC and the take off shot from KLAS LANDING IN KPHX. You asked what can you do better? Your top shelf in my book!!!
Hey Ern, nice trip report... I liked your cheat sheet though when I was doing those I'd have the gate, cabin staff and maybe the FO's names (JAWS) (you know why) and Souls on Board and the data you have as quick reference on a large post-it on the lower left of the panel.
Love this channel! 👍🏻❤
I hope he payin attention to the flight checklist as much as he paying attention to his you tube channel
Love your videos
September 30th I officially start my job with Southwest Airlines at OMA on September 30th as an operations agent hopefully someday I see you at the gate. I am aware I will be in contact with a lot of people in a very short time such as scheduling, customer service agents, ramp agents, wheelchair assistants, flight crew, passengers, supervisor/manager, etc.
@@michaelsharp3615 I’ll see you soon!
No CPDLC in the SWA fleet? Great content and thanks for all the insights!
I'm 42 finishing up my PPL and hoping to make it to the airlines in the next couple of years, and love your videos. I don't miss a single one and love what you bring and your enthusiasm and attitude for aviation. Keep inspiring the next generation of aviators and keep the great content coming. Also, it's always weird listening to yourself on ATC. ;)
Another great video Captain E. How about a "day in the life" with the flight attendants?
like this new format for a change!!
I loved watching the map. I would like to watch in flight. I am always guessing what I am seeing
Show people the relationship between the PIC and Dispatch and how they interact
@@InfidelFireman I’m working on that very idea! Hopefully I can pull it off soon. 👍🏽
Would be cool if you can coordinate a tour with Phoenix Tower/TRACON!
@@AirPlaneToddler11 Man I would love to. I’ll have to see if I can pull that off👍🏽
Would you be able to have a go pro time lapse facing the nose WITH ATC audio in the background? Would be super cool.
Did you bring up this altitude mismatch on opposing bases podcast by chance? Tell atc to get out of your cockpit 😂
Light chop, we found Delta
Here is an idea Big Ern! Do a segment following a SWA Destination 225 cadet from 0 hours to the right seat with SWA.
I just started the program in June and got my PPL yesterday. I think it would be a cool idea to follow a cadet, provide some mentorship etc and give people a realistic view of what it's like to change careers and chase the aviation dream for your followers as I know many of them are inspired by your videos to do the same (That's how it was for me)!
It might also give some realistic timelines and experiences of the highs and lows of a journey!
Just an idea of something I know I would want to watch. Thanks for all you do. 👏🏻
@@jackcorrigan3839 That’s a great idea! I’ll have to dig into that more👍🏽
@@FlyingwithBigErn Awesome! Let me know if you need me to make any connections. I'd be happy to help out. It's the least I could do given the amount of advice/help I've gotten through your videos
Like to see / hear something about the "Green Hornet" If she's still around!
@@omarjohnson3411 Unfortunately it is not. I hope to share info on the new plane soon🤙🏽
@@FlyingwithBigErn Well that sucks!
Woohoo!
Great video. Enjoy the ATC comms. Maybe slow down the ATC comms for take offs, landings and taxis so we can follow along more. (Non aviation person here that enjoys your videos).
@flyingwithbigern, can you do a video with your flights in Albuquerque, NM? 😊
737 MAX - not a chance I’d get on that.
What is your key on how to multi task especially with ATC, and repeating everything properly, when I was getting my PPL I would stumble all the time talking back to ATC, so embarrassing.
Big Ern is the best. So when you were on reserve did they call you or did you bid on an open trip?
@@TwoBuckToll They assigned me👍🏽
Hey Ernie I'm a big fan of your channel and also a big fan of Southwest airlines have you ever been to Indianapolis airport before
@@Aviation4life787 Yes I have. It’s a good overnight👍🏽
@@FlyingwithBigErnhopefully you get another flight here someday because I would love to meet you
I reassign crews all the time being Crew Scheduler in the airlines not for Southwest
What are the reserve rules at Southwest? How many days per month and how much time to get to the airport? Awesome video thanks!
@@gwrallen Thank you! There are so many rules but they’re very manageable. Usually 16 days off per month. And we don’t sit airport standby. 👍🏽
I've been watching your videos over two years now. Maybe you can answer this old question for me....why can't passengers use their cell phones in the air?
Hey Ern those shirts look super crisp. Those proprietary SWA or are they from Flight/A Cut Above?
@@AFO3310 I wear A Cut Above shits. Love them👍🏽
Hello Bigern what path should I do to be a southwest pilot should I go through ASU? or what path did you go through?
@@landonrosas8162 I went through both part 91 mom and pop flight school up to my MEI, then went into the Air Force😁
I’d recommend just going through @iflysca. It’s a great school👍🏽
@@FlyingwithBigErn Ok Do you think Asu is a good place to go since swa and asu are partners?
@@landonrosas8162 I’d recommend Sierra Charlie Aviation in Scottsdale. I’ve got to watch that program pretty close as my office is in the same building. It’s a class act. 👍🏽
Big ERN, SW going paperless now.?
@@JujuSPDC Yes we are👍🏽
I can't fly because my vision is just not good enough, even with glasses 😭 (20/50 with glasses). BigErn, what should I do?
Hey @BigErn? How do you pushback an airliner?
When it's that hot outside does it change how you fly the plane?
Love the ATC and the map overlay. Are you allowed film inflight at all? It would be super cool if you could mount the GoPro on a window or in the back of the cockpit looking forward. Love the content though!
No, you need company and FAA approval to film in flight as a part 121 operator. It's almost never approved unless it's an empty ferry flight or repositioning flight.
Why were the landing lights on at the gate? just curious
I do not fly for Southwest, so someone more qualified can probably answer. However, I believe they have to do a light check to make sure they are all in working order.
@@WaltWeaver That would be it, especially if they're doing an originating start after the plane has been shut down for a while.
Any comments on this new mandate from the FAA?
String of Safety Incidents Prompt Additional Southwest Pilot Training
The airline is requiring that all of its nearly 11,000 pilots attend a day-long training course.
Drop the napkin. Use your ipad 😂 please tell me you don’t ask the ops agent to print the release or weather package
@@nickrubiano5460 Ha! No I don’t go that far… but if they offer😁
If you make plans you’re thinking too far ahead.
First comment😁
Ask your co-pilots if they don’t care to give a brief flight history of themselves….
👋🏻KSRQ☀️🌴🇺🇸✈️
SW Doesn't care if you make these videos?
If they had concerns he wouldn’t be doing these videos
@@XX-166 ok Just wondered
@@mistervacation23 there’s a huge amount of corporate approval to allow these videos which is why Ernie isn’t allowed to film during actual flight times. He’s a professional as you can see and well versed in his job and is a worthy ambassador for Southwest Airlines.
