  • Fishing underneath shrimp boats and decommissioned military communications tower I throw a handmade jig to catch my favorite fish! Sight-fishing Cobia is something a grew up doing off of the south Florida piers, and in today's video I'm trying to sight-fish a cobia for the first time in like 4 years! These handmade jigs work wonders for the curious fish known as a ling, lemon fish, or cobia. This crazy fishery is filled with tons of cool species and I truly can't wait for you all to see today's video. This catch clean and cool video was one of my favorite cobia recipes I’ve ever made!

The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!

This brought back some cool memories for me. In 1985 I had moved to Fort Lauderdale. I was living at 51st and Bayview a block from the inter coastal off of Commercial Blvd. I would fish at the Comercial Blvd. pier a lot. One day I saw giant manta ray, it was so big it has to lift its wings to fit between the pilings of the pier! I was excited because I hadn't lived there long, and it was the biggest ray I ever saw. I remember this younger kid on the pier starts yelling cobia cobia! Next thing I remember was all these kids casting towards the big ray. The kid who initially started the frenzy hooked into and landed a 40lb cobia. It was so cool I wish I could have caught it on video, but it was 1985 and video cameras were gigantic held a full size vhs tape, and weren't really available for the average person back then...jimi sorry for a long comment but wanted to share the memory this brought back...jimi
