Fun fact: the winning theme is also used in one of the GTA San Andreas commercials on WCTR, search for "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Radio Commercials (Eris Pump Up Shoes)".
Grand theft auto: San Andreas uses a lot of these songs as background music for the commercials on the radio. I was amazed when I heard them because I always thought mechanix had it's own ost.
True! Here the full commercial starts at 36:33: ruclips.net/video/4Z6nzJXZAsY/видео.html Or skip to 37:14 on that video above just to the segment with that music.
You may be able to find most of the music in De Wolfe's music library and the rest of Sound Idea's music library. Both of their products are extremely common. I also want to note that even if you get in contact with the devs, they can't LEGALLY give you it if it's all stock. The license for those music libraries gives the buyer permission to syndicate (i.e. put into) with a product, but nothing else. They can't legally give it to you, nor anyone else. Thanks for making these videos by the way - I've been working on videos about synths and music in games for about a year and it's awesome to see someone I've been watching for... 6 years I think, tackle that subject as well. Maybe we could collab sometime!
Oh, man! So, let me see if I got this right... You "manually" recorded the video game soundtracks? So, does that mean you ran a recording program in the background while you let the game sit there and play music? Because, if that is what you did, I can totally relate! I've done crazy stuff like that that just takes tons of time, but, damn it all, you just HAVE to HAVE that track so you can listen to it anytime you want! :P
*PLEASE* do a video on the music of Velocity X. Frankly, any video on Velocity X. That game and Stunt Track Challenge were my two big childhood favorites.
I LOVE this game! My dad brought me home some hotwheel demo cd when I was a kid, and it contained a virtual show room of hot wheels cars and a bunch of demos for hot wheels games. I played through all of the demos and mechanix was my favorite. I really really wanted to race the beach level and I remember having dreams about it. My parents were able to find all the games on the demo cd BUT mechanix! So I was stuck playing the demo until I was around 11 years old and I managed to find a pirated copy. Finally got to beat the game. However I can't get it working under win 98 se my screen just flashes :(
If you haven't heard of HCS64, you may want to look there. They have huge threads with hundreds of pages where they identify sample libraries and royalty-free collections used by specific songs from different video games ("VGM Instrument Source Thread"), so I'm sure they could help you in the right direction to finding some of these songs in high quality.

HOLY CRAP DRUAGAMAN This has sparked a long lost memory that i have been trying to remember since i was quite a small child. I remember playing the demo for this game on my grandmothers computer. it only had the jungle/volcano whatever level. You've re-ignited a long lost part of my life, thank you my dude.
oh wow, someone else who actually played this game! I got the big box version of this game out of a PCworld bargin bin as a kid, it came with a hotwheels car of one of the in game cars in the box so that's mostly why I got it, ended up loving the atmosphere, especially of the space stages, but it was sooooo easy. Thanks for reviving this in my mind, love your content!
Thank you for making this video. I had no idea what this game was called but I could vaguely remember it. Now I know what game it is thanks to this showing in my recommended.
Hey I just wanted to say that I come back to your OST deep dives all time. Not purely because I find the subject matter of music preservation interesting (which I do) but mostly because I love listening to you discuss these (what some people would call "shovelware" or "kidware" games from your childhood. As we grow up, we tend to go back to the games of actual quality but also games that are still accessible. So people who grew up on N64 and PS can easily pop in a crappy game they remember, like Jersey Devil or Kingsley (I actually remember both of those being good actually but I haven't played since I was a kid) and relive some cherished childhood memories. But with PC kidware, (games like Hotwheels, Barbie, weird Disney art games etc. Talking of Disney Art games, I played this Disney art studio game for hours as a kid. Wish I still had it) its harder to run those games again. I know its not impossible but most people aren't going to go beyond GOG for running old DOS/Win 3.1 and Win95 games. So to hear you talk at length about a game from your childhood, that is probably not worth talking about and explaining your nostalgia for it, well to me thats beautiful and you dont get that anywhere else but RUclips. Thanks Duraga.
i did NOT expect this channel to review the music from all of my childhood games! i do have better versions (some not final, and some i have yet to convert) of some of the music in the soundtrack
"Royalty free" means you can use it without paying for royalties (in other words, giving them money each time you used it). It's not the same thing as something that's in public domain (which you can use for literally any means). Royalty free music are still copyrighted; thus, you may need to find and check the license first before you can release that cover of the game's song. If the license is not followed, it's still copyright infridgement. With "Gold, Silver, Bronze", for instance, what you're paying for is not the song, itself, but rather a license to use it. There are multiple different options of licenses within various different contexts on which you can purchase in order to use the song within specific contexts. The "End User License Agreement" for royalty free music on that site (including for "Gold, Silver, Bronze") is here: www.proudmusiclibrary.com/en/eula Hot Wheels Mechanix's use of the song might not even be legal; there are no clauses within the song's EULA that permits its use within a video game.
That's a German computer though - if they got the license from Sound Ideas (who are the most popular resource for SFX and one of the most for royalty free music) then they're in the clear. I've used their products before in games and they're very lenient on use within them.
@@SpeedySPCFan I can do this all day... www.sound-ideas.com/Collectionn/48/End-User-Licenses The existence of that link further proves royalty free music to not be in public domain. Just because they hadn't come knockng at your door, doesn't mean that it still isn't copyright infridgement. Many unofficial videos used songs from the likes of video games verbatim; doesn't mean they've got permission to do so, nor that it wasn't copyright infridgement. Unless you don't mind being within a legal grey area, you still need permission for a specific context.
To me, it doesn't look like Speedy ever said they were public domain. They were arguing Hot Wheels Mechanix's use of the music would be legal if they purchased the license directly from Sound Ideas, because their EULA states: "You have the right to synchronize the audio content from any Sound Ideas royalty free product with audio and/or visual productions or applications such as [...] interactive programs & computer games"
@@tomysshadow Of course, not. The real point of what I'm trying to say was, royalty-free music is not public domain music. (Besides which, a song is already quite legally questionable if it is available under contradictive terms from differing companies; this discrepancy can only be resolved by the song's true copyright owners, themselves.)
It's stupid to suggest that Hot Wheels used the music illegally. Sure it's not permitted by the standard license that comes with an automated shopping cart, but if you contact the stock music agencies, something can usually be worked out, they'll either give you the go-ahead or ask for more money for a separate license, and why would you assume they hadn't done that. How is giving different people different usage rights by the publisher "legally questionable" or i don't even understand what you mean. Also i'm sure Druaga and the participants here are quite aware, this was a joke, and that's why there is a "(It's actually not)" subtitle at 7:40.
I remember hearing the beach theme from a commercial for the Ohio RV and Boat Show in 2017, if I recall. Hopefully, the original music is found soon in good quality, Mechanix was always one of my favorites on PC when I was younger.
Did we all have the same childhood? Velocity X is my all time favorite game from my early childhood. It was one of the first open world games I ever played, if you can call it that. The soundtrack is so iconic to me. I'm pretty sure that it is royalty free, as I recently heard the crankshaft bay theme in a really garbage straight to Netflix indie film last year. Brought a smile to my face. I really hope you drop a vid on the game man
awe games is known for using royalty free music mostly in their nickelodeon games like Spongebob Employee Of The Month And Jimmy Neutron Vs Jimmy Negatron
I used to love this game, I would still happily play it! While it might be easy, especially if you power up the cars the soundtrack is great and my brother and I thought the graphics were pretty good when we were playing it back in 2002! We played it several times after that as well.
Hopefully I'm not too late to the party, but I found the original sources on Sound Ideas! I searched up "jungle" and eventually landed on the first half of the Tiki Jungle soundtrack; turns out it's stored in an "album" that's got a ton of the other songs. There's a couple more of these too; it really seems like the devs just bought the rights to a few of these compilations, slapped them into the game, and called it a day. You can actually listen to the tracks too, but there's this annoying "watermark" that says Sound Ideas every ten seconds or so - maybe it can be cleanly eliminated with the standard vocal removal technique in Audacity? www.sound-ideas.com/Product/206/Mix-VII-Broadcast-Music-Library-Royalty-Free-Music Here's what I've found so far: In Mix VII, "Mix CD 52" In The House - Pluto Mines, 2nd Half Jungle Dance - Tiki Jungle, 1st Half Industrial Revolution - Moon Base, 2nd Half Viscosity - Moon Base, 1st Half Spaghetti Guitar in Space - Urban Wasteland, 1st Half Mind Storm - Urban Wasteland, 2nd Half In "Mix CD 54" Big Breakers - Beachway, 1st Half Wicked Surf - Beachway, 2nd Half In "Mix CD 59" Tribal Tensions - Tiki Jungle, 2nd Half In Mix IV, "Mix CD 33" Dance Attack - Asteroid Belt, 1st Half In The House - Asteroid Belt, 2nd Half (note: this isn't the same "In The House" as above) Sixth Dimension - Pluto Mines, 1st Half Still not totally sure where they found the menu music, but I know I've seen the Construction Site songs floating around before on iTunes - it was named something that touted the fact that it'd been made exclusively from samples of actual construction equipment. I'm going through the site's search engine now to try and find the menu song; I'll post again if I find anything.
Found a few more: In The Mix IX, "CD Mix 67" Power Tool Safari - Construction Site, 1st Half Road Work - Construction Site, 2nd Half "CD Mix 66" has some extended remixes of songs I found in CD Mix 52 - they're under the same names that they were there. In The Mix V "CD Mix 40" Gold, Silver, Bronze The menu theme's still not turning up.
Mateusz Walendziuk most of them, anyway. Weirdly enough, all of the tracks that were in The Mix series were on audioblocks too, under the same names and everything - just no references to The Mix. The menu theme is still the only one that hasn’t turned up, but it’s probably hanging around in one of the albums I didn’t check. I doubt they would’ve gone and gotten a recording artist just to make one song
AWE Games did a similar thing with the Jimmy Neutron games they developed around 2001. AWE Games seems to love their usage of various royalty-free songs as much as they do their reusing of assets across various games.
That winning music was also included as part of the Podcast production toolkit by Sound Ideas, that's where I heard it first. www.sound-ideas.com/Product/458/Podcast-Production-Toolkit-1-Sound-Effects-Music
Dude, stunt track driver was THE SHIT, I would totally play a remastered version of that game, with hella detailed environments and shit. That would be amazing.
I was able to find the Pluto Mines music on a royalty free music site, maybe even the same one you were on, about 3 years ago. I know this is wholly unhelpful because I don't remember what the track was called. I believe a random comment on a video or forum somewhere tipped me off to it. It exists!
Can you look into the audio of Hot Wheels Micro Racers? This game was life as a kid in windows ME land. I can't run it now but would love to hear it's opening music again.
I'm trying to imagine a track being originally snapped up from someone's Angelfire site that no longer exists, rendering the hot wheels version being the last remaining copy in existence. I honestly wonder if any of the tracks were licensed, if at all though. It's always gotta be these weird edge cases where if so much time has passed, research becomes nearly impossible. A shame there's not even like metadata to scour.
I've heard of Sound Ideas because they are a Canadian company here in Toronto (where i live). I don't think you needed to reference them in the projects whenever you used any of their songs/sound effects. Once you bought one of their CDs you essentially paid for the license to use them, without needing to credit them in your projects. You just need to find someone who has those original CD and maybe they can rip that track for you.
I've spent nearly 4 years trying to play this game and now my last struggle is the almost unplayable framerate at times while on a Windows XP VM. If you remember, what host computer did you use to play this since you seem to have 30 fps most of the time? I feel like my outdated GT730 is maybe the reason why i'm only able to play this in a constant 10-15 fps.
Did a bit of digging and pulled up Pluto Mines. It's called "Birght Future" by a Korean artist called Sunnyman. music.bugs.co.kr/track/1581518?wl_ref=list_tr_08_ab
@Druaga1 That mindblow is even bigger for me, I actually had that victory theme in a mmo I used to play in 2004, and still do. It's called Ragnarok Online, meaning you can get that for free on it. I'll extract it today and post a link to it if ya want.
There you go ! It was implemented on it for a bard skill called Invulnerable Siegfried : mega.nz/#!0Rxj2CBa!FRTTc8K2E7CWj1c4d1ojoEnnmS68xYLQngstzkygU0o
Have you ever tried the hotwheels game that was essentially a reskin of ignition & some additional but very minimal things added into the game ? Its the diet version of ignition id say with the limited amounts of tracks & cars. It's called hotwheels micro racers, its pretty good for what it is, albeit a bit too easy as well. There is no rewards besides unlocking additional cars though i believe.
The ass half of the tiki jungle soundtrack can be found on a spotify track by an artist called Spirit of South Africa with the track being called Torrents.
Its kinda like the revive music from waw zombies, the base music was a royalty free song, ended up hearing it on pbs for an advertisement a few years after >< the memories!
The only thing I remember from this game is the Tiki Island map. nothing else, just the beginning of it. I think I remember just exploring the map and not even trying to race. apparently there was also this game where you could scan cards to get cars? I dont remember it and I havent been able to find it other than the new one thats for android called Hot Wheels id or something.
I am sure beachway was used in a BBC educational computer game like 9 years ago, it was a browser based game but I can't seem to find anything about it
Hey Druaga, theres still a chance to get better quality audio from those files. Just like waifu2x uses neural networks and stuff to upscale images to to something one could believe to be close to the original, the same could be done to the audio, youd need an smart upsampler or something trained with tracks in 22100 and downsampled to 11050 so it can learn and imagine how the originals sounded. It wont give you the originals, you cant created information out of thing air, but it can output something you can easily belidve to be the original.
Had someone done that, successfully? And you can restore a more pleasant high end for sure, even just using frequency doubling, filter and EQ, but in mono it still won't sound very good, and faking stereo seems even more icky than trying to do upsampling.

I like late 90's and early 2000's video game music, it was like one long rave.
Actually Rick Rhodes *is* a games composer so he may have written the whole soundtrack!
You are awesome dude thank you
If ever druaga comes back I hope it's with another soundtrack examination
3:37 *BIG RIGS!!!!!*
I love these videos so much, is this going to be a series? I love this
Also! There's a VST called stereo tool that can regenerate 44100hz from 11205 and lower
I remember that moon base level scaring me! The robots in it combined with the music creeped me out.
Not the hero we deserve, or need, but a hero of some kind anyway.
Damn finally found this game again after 15 years. The main thing that was stuck in my head was the jungle race theme 😂
That's a nice file size.
You can actually listen to the tracks too, but there's this annoying "watermark" that says Sound Ideas every ten seconds or so - maybe it can be cleanly eliminated with the standard vocal removal technique in Audacity? www.sound-ideas.com/Product/206/Mix-VII-Broadcast-Music-Library-Royalty-Free-Music
Here's what I've found so far:
In Mix VII, "Mix CD 52"
In The House - Pluto Mines, 2nd Half
Jungle Dance - Tiki Jungle, 1st Half
Industrial Revolution - Moon Base, 2nd Half
Viscosity - Moon Base, 1st Half
Spaghetti Guitar in Space - Urban Wasteland, 1st Half
Mind Storm - Urban Wasteland, 2nd Half
In "Mix CD 54"
Big Breakers - Beachway, 1st Half
Wicked Surf - Beachway, 2nd Half
In "Mix CD 59"
Tribal Tensions - Tiki Jungle, 2nd Half
In Mix IV, "Mix CD 33"
Dance Attack - Asteroid Belt, 1st Half
In The House - Asteroid Belt, 2nd Half (note: this isn't the same "In The House" as above)
Sixth Dimension - Pluto Mines, 1st Half
Still not totally sure where they found the menu music, but I know I've seen the Construction Site songs floating around before on iTunes - it was named something that touted the fact that it'd been made exclusively from samples of actual construction equipment. I'm going through the site's search engine now to try and find the menu song; I'll post again if I find anything.
Found a few more:
In The Mix IX, "CD Mix 67"
Power Tool Safari - Construction Site, 1st Half
Road Work - Construction Site, 2nd Half
"CD Mix 66" has some extended remixes of songs I found in CD Mix 52 - they're under the same names that they were there.
In The Mix V "CD Mix 40"
Gold, Silver, Bronze
The menu theme's still not turning up.
@@lukeruff795 So you went through every "The Mix" that is on Sound-Ideas right?
Mateusz Walendziuk most of them, anyway. Weirdly enough, all of the tracks that were in The Mix series were on audioblocks too, under the same names and everything - just no references to The Mix. The menu theme is still the only one that hasn’t turned up, but it’s probably hanging around in one of the albums I didn’t check. I doubt they would’ve gone and gotten a recording artist just to make one song
@@lukeruff795 Yeah, and somehow forget about him in credits. I'll maybe try to check these mixes too, as it cannot end up with one unidentified song.
Also found Construction Site. It's a song called Jackhammer Stomp by Craig Riley

He's gonna take you back to the past.
To play some obscure games that have..good music?
WAY TO GO YOU WON ALL CARS YOU'RE WINNER!
I’ve heard the beachway song on a Tevo DVR commercial before.
Moon Base is sampled on a song called Bite the Pillow by someone named Kid Sexy

Wait I think the final race victory music at around 3:26 was used in a 'Mike Andrews' radio commercial in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Can't wait for the Velocity X video.
I always thought I got this game from like a McDonalds happy meal or something. Never thought it was an actual product sold on store shelves.
I remember playing this game way too much.
AWE Games did a similar thing with the Jimmy Neutron games they developed around 2001. AWE Games seems to love their usage of various royalty-free songs as much as they do their reusing of assets across various games.
I just can't believe anyone else even remembers this game.
I want that music to be finished!
0:52 nice
A community is dying for that Velocity X video!
this game was my childhood
"Sue me please, I need to find the person who made this music." - druaga1
That winning music was also included as part of the Podcast production toolkit by Sound Ideas, that's where I heard it first.

fucking loved this game.
Dude, stunt track driver was THE SHIT, I would totally play a remastered version of that game, with hella detailed environments and shit. That would be amazing.
I heard the TK jungle music in the tv once
I was able to find the Pluto Mines music on a royalty free music site, maybe even the same one you were on, about 3 years ago. I know this is wholly unhelpful because I don't remember what the track was called. I believe a random comment on a video or forum somewhere tipped me off to it. It exists!
Investigating the Soundtrack of Big Rigs: There is none, fuck you
Make the Extended Mix of Asteroid Belt, DO IT
Can you look into the audio of Hot Wheels Micro Racers?
This game was life as a kid in windows ME land. I can't run it now but would love to hear it's opening music again.
I'm trying to imagine a track being originally snapped up from someone's Angelfire site that no longer exists, rendering the hot wheels version being the last remaining copy in existence. I honestly wonder if any of the tracks were licensed, if at all though. It's always gotta be these weird edge cases where if so much time has passed, research becomes nearly impossible. A shame there's not even like metadata to scour.
This channel just become "how to become siivagunner"
he manipulates video game music to make wacky noises while druaga1 just extracts video game music which are completely intact from any modifications
I feel like my outdated GT730 is maybe the reason why i'm only able to play this in a constant 10-15 fps.
going from the old style to this is even better imo. i went from like "oh shit druaga uploaded" to "OH DAMN DRUAGA UPLOADED?!???"
I JUST GOT THIS WORKING ON MY LINUX DESKTOP YESTERDAY HOLY SHIT
Cool!
a bit late but midnight club 2's pc port also uses directmusic for the ambience at least
Did a bit of digging and pulled up Pluto Mines. It's called "Birght Future" by a Korean artist called Sunnyman.

Cool
Will you make some videos about your pcs or macs like the autamite powermac g4 adventute
Investigating 90s flash games
The ass half of the tiki jungle soundtrack can be found on a spotify track by an artist called Spirit of South Africa with the track being called Torrents.
Its kinda like the revive music from waw zombies, the base music was a royalty free song, ended up hearing it on pbs for an advertisement a few years after >< the memories!
That accepted thumbnail xD
I would love to find a download for this game to work on windows 10 sadly there literally is nothing. It was my childhood
I got this in a two pack with some kind of jet fighting game by hotwheels I believe
I still have both I just gotta find them
ASK ME ABOUT MY WEINER!!!!
I am sure beachway was used in a BBC educational computer game like 9 years ago, it was a browser based game but I can't seem to find anything about it
Miss ya, please make more great vids or at least let us know you are well. I really hope things are going okay for you.
Druaga1 can you please make a video about installing things on an ssd
Finish the track
