Looking at old Apple manuals

- This one should help as a sleep aid. It did for me.
I call floppy disk drives "floppy disks" and I call floppy disks "floppy drives" in this video. Call the nursing home, I got out again.
Druaga in 30 years: Looking at old SSD manuals!
its mainly toilet paper lmao
You're totally right. If it's a hobby and it stops being fun and starts to become a burden it's time to take a break.
Plus from a viewer's pov: I like a channel with suboptimal lighting, non regular scedule and lowfi audio but real enthusiasm better than professional youtube with scripted content.
Your fun and quirky personality is what makes your channel. I don't miss weekly videos. I don't miss hour long videos. I don't miss production quality. I'd miss it if your personality got lost. Don't let modern youtube crush you! :-)
I mostly agree especially as far as lighting goes, but as far as audio goes, it's just so cheap (relatively speaking) to have good audio. 500 bucks gets you prosumer equipment that you will likely be able to use until it breaks (it won't be outdated in five years like a camera). So having bad audio is a lot more "offensive" to the viewer than bad lighting because it's easier and cheaper to have good audio than good lighting and high end cameras. What always gets my goat is how RUclips channels will have decent equipment and then not downmix voice recordings to mono so there will be artifacting or maybe no audio in one channel at all. So it definately isn't as simple as "get better equipment to make your sound better".
@@amystery5238 one big exception is Digital Foundry, they are a corporate channel that does it better than most smaller channels (even sometimes better than My Life in Gaming, which has a similar theme and production value but is more retro focused and much smallernd not corporate run).
@@amystery5238 "like I'm at a friend's house goofing around with computers and whatever, just having some fun."
This is what I mean. It's relatable and fun.
Not gonna lie I totally agree with you! The personality of his videos is so unique and I’d hate to see it go
Druaga1 is back
*Time to blaze some SSDs*
You had 69 thumbs up on your comment and I'm sad to say I had to click on it and ruin that little immature joke of a number. :P
@@CybershamanX :D

Druaga1 is bac bois and you know what that means
*Installs SSD into calculator*
@Conor Hanley
Yeah ur right
I'm just glad his move went ok this time, hopefully he got a contractor to look at his new apartment (asbestos) and went on some kind of review my land lord to make sure he's not getting screwed again
@@tjyoyo3
yeet.
What is more funny is that he actually done that! lmao
Druaga1 uploads after minutes after I bought an SSD, I should buy one every day now
Lmao XD
HOLY SHIT SAME DUDE
I'm actually considering getting one for my Linux media server project. I tried to build it a while back, had the whole thing together, then the hard drive died.. (btw, it's going to be as lightweight as possible, running tiny core. I'm gonna use it to backup stuff from my phone onto it.)
kaity kline Seems a bit of overkill unless you’re backing up IRL live-streams or something like that.
weird
Ahhh... So Dark Druaga was supposed to be symbolizing how the RUclips video algorithm works nowadays... How could I have missed it.
Also asshole commentors.
Okay, the manual at 11:23 contains instructions for how to read the other manuals. This means we _will_ have sequel to the "Windows OS-ception" video where this time Druaga1 reads manuals on how to read more manuals.
A+ intro. The Arch shutdown was hilarious.
To store spiral-bound books vertically _ideally,_ you would have the bindings facing away from one another, alternating direction in a stack. It prevents or lessens deformity of the bindings and book pages
With that intro, and your explanation as to the spotty uploads, I understand and support you. Even if the algorithm™ destroys you view-wise, I will continue to watch, whether you upload every day, bi-weekly, weekly, bi-monthly, monthly, even yearly I'll still watch your videos.
I remember when I first found your channel, quite a while before I had taken my CIT college course, and a lot of that stuff was very inspirational for me. I had already delved fairly deep into the world of technology, but seeing all these niche operating systems, odd-brand SSDs, the rigged hardware setups, all of it... I was inspired.
As a tech enthusiast, there are a lot of very interesting nichés that I never would have much more than known existed if not for your videos.
Apologies for the shoddy japanese, but
ありがと で さよなら.
Apple : Don't turn it on, take it apart ! ... damn, those were indeed the days.
A lot of early computing was about publishing, and office nerds just wanted to play with their toys and flex their skills, which probably contributed more to abundance of quality manuals during that era than any silly things like respect for consumer and such.
Don't worry Druaga, we just go here to see you and hang out with you, blazingly simple.
I'm really young and I don't know a lot about old computers, but I think it's clear that Apple tried to make IIgs as a "Fun" computer.
Iigs manual looks really fun, and IIgs had better graphics, sound, Apple II backwards compatibility, and really fun demo disk(the one that you demonstrated in previous video).
"If you don't have a computer, you don't have computer problems".... Same reason why I don't have any money!
Druaga1 is the ONLY and i repeat ONLY youtuber i could watch look at manuals for a solid 36 minutes and not get bored.
LGR?
i understand the need for a break. i hope you find your flow and make videos again soon, i miss watching your crazy antics
9:26 "Legal gibberish that lunges at you when you open the box"
"High" Sierra aaayyyy
You don't know how happy I am to see this video upload.
liked the video because you said arch linux..
Install gentoo
IDK what you guys are talking about... Windows Vista for life.
i use manjaro...
@@amystery5238 I tend to avoid debian based distros if I can because I just don't like how they work. I've been using arch and arch based distros for over a year and I gotta say, pacman is so easy to use I can't go back to debian's package manager
@@amystery5238 I guess the AUR is part of why pacman is so good. I've only been using gnu/linux for about a year and I love how the AUR has the latest versions of all the software I want and yes, arch can break sometimes due to this but I'd rather have to repair my OS than use outdated software. Also, arch is not as hard to set up as other people think. Most people who think arch is hard use a gui installer to set up their computer.
Happy to see a new upload. I'm one of those people who will continue to stick around no matter what. Recycling and preserving old tech is the best.
I worked at a school district in the mid-2000's, mostly repairing Apple computers, and we'd sometimes get in IIe's.
That intro was so perfect with Fallout AND Star Trek in the Background :D I could see that dialoge take place in Star Trek AND Fallout
I knew you had style. Didn't think it was quite Miranda-class style. Nice.
Daddy druaga is back! I feel your pain on the moving man I’m in the middle of one. Worst part is I went from 500mb/s cable to 25mb/s dsl, the depression is real. Thankfully the fiber gods will be smiling upon the new place soon with a symmetrical 1gb/s connection.
As a Macintosh Plus and Apple IIe owner, I thoroughly enjoyed this video.
the arch linux comment left me coughing
Thank you so much for sharing. I love your content. There is some serious gratitude in this video.
I haven't watched your videos in a while since I've been busy with university, but I helped a friend install an SSD in his laptop and you instantly came to mind. I've been on a Druaga1 binge since.
Druaga man, I will never unsubscribe to you... If you make just one video per year, that’s perfectly fine honestly.
Thank goodness your okay! :3 I was seriously worried. (Also, speaking of books, I have the dos for dummies book, and it has helped me a lot when I was younger, trying to fix up some hand me down computers from relatives so I could actually use them. )
Welcome back Druaga!
Great manuals back then.
The intros are always funny, glad you're back!
The book video was awesome!
I like this video. And I like the real feeling attitude you have in this one, like when talking about creator burnout and also for instance the executives and their dollhouse.
Personely I like going through this old books once in a while.
This is strangely interesting and nostalgic. Yknow the other day I found one of those demonstration ball mice. Those two button white ones with the floppy disk containing a manual for it lol
I loved the book vids. 👍
Im glad your back. This is my favorite channel
I keep my manuals because they're fun to read from time to time.
Today I didn't do any good in my exams , and I feel like a failure , but when I saw you uploaded clicked fast . Thank you Ian for being you , love you man ❤
Don't call it a comeback, he's been here for years.
is good to see old manuals like that, i never had any kind of apple product before but im always intrigued by the whole presentation and goodies apple used to make with their products back in the old days.
The manuals that showcases the interior of the computers i assume are before Steve was at full on charge of Apple, the thing of not showcasing stuff and other things was because i believe he thought this could showcase to other people that wanted to make an "apple clone" flooding the market with cheap clone Macs so Steve didnt wanted that because it could harm Macs reputation and sales, of course i know almost nothing of Apple's story just a handful of stuff so maybe im talking up my ass here so anybody that reads this take it with a huge grain of salt.
I have manuals but for other stuff but PC things, i do remember having a Genius fly stick with a pretty good looking manual that came also with a free copy of Al Unser Jr Racing, dunno why they packed a FLY STICK with a formula 1 racing game and not something like Wing Commander 2 or 3 or even Microsoft Fly Simulator, heck even X-Wing or Tie Fighter could had been better than a freaking supar formula 1 racing game.
The funny thing was that my father brought that joystick so he could play Rebel Assault 2 with it, not knowing that the game hadn't support for that particular joystick, so he spent like a whole afternoon cursing with the PC because he couldt even play the game with his brand new Genuis fly stick going back and foward with the windows 95 joysticks and Mouse calibrating the joystick but not getting the game to recognize the joystick, he even installed and uninstalled Rebel Assault 2 like 10 times in a row, he went and installed and uninstalled the drivers for the joystick and still the game didnt wanted to recognize the joystick, he even went to the place that brought the joystick and Rebel Assault 2 and made them to see what was going on and they just told him that the game doesnt recognize the joystick because it isnt supported by it, so he spent like 3 days straight trying to get RA2 to run with the joystick but he didnt even read in the manual that certain games maybe wont support the joystick at all.
Years later i found out how to make that joystick run with the game but the downside is that menus, 3rd person shooting sections and so on were a bitch to control, so it wasnt even worthed so i ended up using the joystick for games like Descent 3 and Freespace since that was the whole propòse of the thing anyway, and my father played with the joystick with Rogue Squadron and Star Wars Racer so was a win-win situation after all.
I am glad to see you come back to use...
Going by the packing list P/Ns and manuals, your Apple IIgs was a ROM 01 machine shipped in mid 1987 to whenever in 1988 they started shipping System 4.0 (GS/OS). The System Disk User's Manual covers System 3.x (still ProDOS 16) and the then-new 16-bit Finder.
Welcome back
We still had one at my school around 1997, we mainly used it to learn typing
He IS back baby!
Well look what the Apple pro mouse dragged in.
The madlad is back.
About the space issue with the light setup, look at Akbkuku's light system, he solves that issue with a smaller (bit more powerfull) led lamp and smaller reflectors.
I'm just happy you make videos thank you
Glad your back man, love the vids
01:31, but druaga is here, there is no time for sleep
This vid was so great.
The reason that you should not set the external hard drive near the moniter is because of the deflection coils will erase your hard drive.
Been watching some old Druaga1 videos recently. Glad to have you back! ^^
I somehow completely missed this, darn.
Druaga is love, Druaga is life :)
_sees a book_ *unsubs*
lol nah. Your channel is awesome, Druaga1. Keep up the good work and know that no matter how long in between videos, there will always be loyal fans awaiting your return. :)
Hope the move went well, PLEASE do a crossover with AVGN. I'll personally pester him until he accepts the idea, I beg you, please!
30:00 - I think initializing means that the partition table on the disk is wiped, not just one partition (which would be formatting).
I do have to say, I do much prefer the "studio audio" if nothing else for the volume level consistency.
I'm in Phoenix if you ever want to get rid of the GS manuals ...
You do you dude, we're all subscribed and will see your videos!
Druaga 1 & 2 uploading, this is a perfect week. 😀
5:28 Join the club, everybody hates their job sometimes... Because of the difficulties , which you should take care of like a jigsaw puzzle. Cause it’s the best reward to deal with and overcome those difficulties
In 29:00 i think you can't put the drive over the Mac (or next to over something) because the Crt monitor can damaga the floppy insde it, or cause wrong data reading/writing.
F RUclips just have fun at what your doing and if you need to stop so you don't get burned out that's OK we love your videos great work
Amusing intro lol I liked it
DRUAGA1 IS BACK!!!!!! YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
HE'S ALIVE!!!! Now I can rage about him again whenever he tries to install an SSD.... 😏
Im slouched over a messy desk eating hamburger helper. im offended by that very relatable comment XD
Great vid.
I use Arch Linux BTW
Shoutouts to @archlinuxmemes
Finally you're back, already thought you would be dead and I got very sad.
Yay, Ian is back.. got my SSD ready :)
Aww yeah, more Druaga1 content!
This video is very interesting!
Hope the move went well.
I wish I can work with you I love fixing computers and experiment with them
There are now 1TB SSD's for 100 bucks / Euros LOL
RIP Casio Watch
YAY! A new video!!!!!!!!!!
YESSS DRUAGA
The algorithm doesn't mean to shit to fans who type your channel name, go to your videos, and binge watch.
4:50 Kirby and Waddle Doo
i am happy :3
Druaga my Brother where has you been i miss you !!
I was just watching AkBKukU. Oh yeah, Miranda class blueprint. Love it!
@Dik dic Aren't you the guy that got assblasted when AkBKukU pronounced OS X as it's spelled instead of how Apple thinks you should pronouce it on the iMac G4 video?
You were! And you also got assblasted when he said "Linux" instead of "Gee En You Slash Linux".
In a time where Eminem is considered "classic hip hop".... I bet there is some instagram-influencer-14-yo-fortnite-dabber-gaming-router-using-kid with a 17$ coffee that doesn't contain actual coffee in his hand watching this video and thinking to himself "why would there come books with computers?-it doesn't even mention the redditor who knows how to install facebook an an ipad.."
