Yeah, I was like is she crushing on Prince!?!? I remember Ellen saying in an interview that it's not that she doesn't like men, it's just that she likes women more! So, I guess thar this an example of this! Prince was turning things around lol...I remember when Rosie O'Donnell used to call Tom Cruise a "Cutey Batutie". Lol...
Then you haven't watched her interviews with sexy men. She said the same thing to timberlake, Tom cruise, Javier bardem, and I could probably go on and on
When Prince left his record label in the mid 90s he appeared on Rosie and Oprah. With this, he repeats that same formula. He didn't have record label support where he could fully concentrate on his music, telling his story. He gained mainstream audience through those appearances to make his then album and tour a success. Even selling his special releases at Borders Books. Prince... at Borders. He then dipped back into obscurity in the around the late 90s and trying to do a Santana-like comeback which wasn't successful in terms of how Santana and Rob got grammy's lots of air play, etc. etc. of which they are still riding the success of that collaboration with Clive and are planned to play a tribute at Carnegie Hall. So going back to Prince, after Clive didn't manifest the same success for Prince, Prince went back to focusing on his extremely loyal fan base. That's where Prince mentions the playing theaters in his One Nigh Alone tour. That was a lead up to what now seems was planned where at the right time, with a popular new "artist" Prince could reach that same/new audience, including people that 'missed him'. Prince's camp most likely spoke with the Grammys' camp and the new thing at Grammys was to match new ArtOfficial "stars" with legendary real stars. Thus, his Beyonce performance. This placed Prince's name in the mainstream again, fueled with 80s nostalgia, seeing how Prince was still a great performer, the mainstream masses bought into the Musicology Tour fever. Prince was slick like that. Finding ways to beat the system, to remain relevant, and in a way to also thank hardcore and casual fans that returned and gaining new curious fans. He was so slick he worked in his Musicology album in with tickets, bam, instant top seller without radio, without the internet really and without a record label. And again with an appearance on Ellen, he returned to that mainstream formula, thus his more tame style and look, non-threatening, to appeal to a mainstream audience. But in 2004 much more successfully than in 1996. Anyway, just a kind of context and thoughts about this appearance. Thanks to Ellen and her team for sharing it in great quality and retaining the 4:3 ratio!
I still love him and can’t believe this April 21st will be 8 years without him. The world just isn’t the same. Genius never to be forgotten.
He was so sweet and humble, always humble, fantastic human and so beautiful to look at for sure.
Prince was a handsome dude!
It's amazing how he simply NEVER raises his voice much above a whisper.
A few big singers are like that for fear of losing their singing voice. Like how Ariana Grande and Lea Michelle won't raise their voice either
He raised it at his employees like his maid and chef and cleaners and also at his non- famous band mates.
