  • Ignace Joseph Pleyel (18 June 1757 - 14 November 1831)) was an Austrian-born French composer and piano builder of the Classical period.
At one time the pupil - and then the London rival - of Franz Joseph Haydn, Pleyel's reputation rested at least in part on the undemanding character of his music. A reviewer writing in the Morning Herald of London (1791) said that Pleyel "is becoming even more popular than his master (Haydn), as his works are characterized less by the intricacies of science than the charm of simplicity and feeling."
Pleyel once was the human symbol of everything balanced and moderate in symphonic music. And now… poor Ignaz Pleyel: his reputation isn't half what it used to be!

Complimenti Sibarit. Anche Pleyel è un autore di prima grandezza che va assolutamente riscoperto. Le sue sinfonie, in particolare, sono bellissime, alcune sono veri e propri CAPOLAVORI, come questa Ben 126 e la Ben 133.

Thanks again. Yes, all his symphonies are very beautiful. I also love the Sinfonia Concertante for violin & piano in A major Op. 57 which was among my first posts.

Gran sinfonía del alumno más aventajado de Joseph Haydn y que compitió con él estando en Londres. No obstante, reconoció la grandeza y prestigio de su maestro en el ámbito musical europeo. Gracias por presentarla!

Beautifull. Thanks for the video Pleyel schrieb sehr "plastisch" Macht und Lieblichkeit harmonieren im Zusammenspiel. Ich liebe deshalb Pleyel.

Unfortunately, as I think you already know, his talent and the value of his music are not fully recognized today.
