    Ultimately, it's all personal preference.
    If anyone is to criticise you for this, then they really need to grow up. We are all different. The bike community is odd, some of the nicest people you'll meet, but when it comes to the YT comments, some are also the most bitter and childish i have ever come across.
    We ride what we want. Just appreciate bikes for what they give us, instead of acting like 3 year olds.
    Many won't experience any negatives on a 1h test ride. I recently got a new XSR900. Did a quick 20-minute test ride and i bought it. My first 5 hour ride out today killed my arse. These things we pick up later into ownership, or first long ride for me 😂.

    Just complete an Iron butt (1000 mile in 24 hr) with this stock bike and fits me fine and through it was super comfy for me, being 5'11. It might be worth giving some rider specific height and so on if you found it uncomfortable so people can get a gauge on if this might be good advice for them or not. To be honest the first people I've heard to not get on with comfort or lights and had probablems with paintwork. Not my experience of the bike after 12k mile and 2 and half years. Didn't opt for the panniers however and probably won't now and 100% agree about the heated grip.

  • @Paulie44
    @Paulie44 9 месяцев назад +23

    Wow! I didn’t realise you had so many issues with the GT.
    I agree with the insane asking price of the heated grips, more than twice any other manufacturer and I’m guessing this is where Suzuki claws back some money in accessories.
    I don’t have an issue with the panniers and because I don’t generally ride at night I can’t comment on the headlight throw and spread.
    However, I’m surprised you never mentioned the woeful front brake (the culprit being the master cylinder) or the inadequate OE tyres (Dunlops).
    Paint finish isn’t great and I’ve already had several stone chips on my rims within the first year.
    As for seat comfort, I’m a short arse at 5’9" and find the seating position comfortable for all day rides, but the handlebars are at a strange angle and I had to get used to my wrists bending outwards to hold the grips - even a mate commented on the weird angle when he rode my bike for a while.
    This will be my third year of ownership and overall I’m still pleased with my GT purchase as I knew it was built to a price.
    I’m keen to see your next bike because I’ve been eyeing up the Suzuki GX for my next tour.
    Edit: I forgot to add that I get an annoying buzzing through the handlebars at around 6,000 rpm which is exactly where I’m cruising on motorways across the continent and it leads to white finger syndrome after a few hundred miles. I’ve even added a set of grip puppies to try reduce the vibrations. Does anyone else get the buzzing/vibrations through the bars?
    Keep up the good work 👍

    • @markcayton6712
      @markcayton6712 4 месяца назад +3

      @Paulie44, I had the same buzzing issue with my 2018 GSX S1000FA at 6000 rpm, I solved it by changing sprockets (1 tooth bigger in front and 1 tooth smaller in back, that way the rear axle location stays the same), and also went with a taller rear tire (200/55 Bridgestone S22), those changes gave me substantially taller legs on the highway which put the buzz-zone at about 95 mph which is a hair above my cruise speed, so problem solved. That solution did, however, make for a rather tall 1st gear but I'm personally okay with that.
      Oh, I also added some heavier bar end weights, filled the handlebar with BBs and added foam grips. Those mods helped quite a bit.

    • @Paulie44
      @Paulie44 4 месяца назад

      @@markcayton6712 thanks for the advice, I’ll probably go the sprockets and taller tyre route on the next bike (undecided if it’ll be another Suzuki GSX-S 1000GT or the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, or even the GSX-S 1000GX)

  • @MalShakur
    @MalShakur 9 месяцев назад +21

    I have the same bike. Here are my thoughts but keep in mind, I am coming from a GSXR1000K6. The paint is way too thin. The limited leg room makes it a bit uncomfortable for me on longer trips but supposedly there's a guy making highway pegs for them now which should help a bit. My panniers come off pretty easily and they hold a lot. Don’t really care about the heated grips. I paid $16K cash for the bike. What’s another $400 bucks? Plus I live in Florida lol.
    I'd say it's a super comfortable sport bike and less of traditional sports tourer like a Concours, RS, RT, VFR, etc. Surprisingly I felt the r1250RS that I test rode a month ago during Bike Week less comfortable with more of a forward lean angle. Great low end torque out of that boxer engine though!
    My biggest gripe with the Suzuki, besides the stock brakes being atrocious, is them giving us the GT’s K5 derived engine in a detuned state while still being quite revvy on the highway. I find myself wishing it was a bit stronger in the mid range and less rev happy on the highway. My bike is flashed but I’m still trying to decide if I should put a pipe on it for a bit more juice or keep it “gentleman like” the way it is in stock form. Who knew I’d miss the raw nuts of my old bike? Still I find it to be a very very good bike and I know when I look at my mostly sportbike friends while out on those longer rides, I’m still way more comfortable than they are. The GT is the jack of all trades though and really the master of none.
    If you’re looking for the bike that blows your socks off, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for one of the best bang for buck all rounders in the market place that is still proper fast and with decent comfort than you’re in the right place. Just don’t buy one expecting to do multi day tours in total comfort as if you’re on one of Beemer’s flagship bikes. Not going to happen…but then again, those won’t handle nearly as well either.
    I also think Suzuki should have given this bike a 1200 motor, a Brembo radial master cylinder and maybe just charged us a bit more for it all. That would add superbike level brakes, a bunch of torque while also bringing the highway revs down a bit and still keeping the emissions police happy. That said, I'll also be adding something else to the stable too but I won't be letting the GT go anytime soon. It's just way too practical, even if it ain't the most exciting or comfortable thing out there.

    • @Paulie44
      @Paulie44 9 месяцев назад

      Great write up. I had a 2015 GSXR 1000 two bikes before the GT.
      Do you also get buzzing/vibrations through the handlebars at motorway cruising speeds at approximately 6.000 rpm? I’ve fitted grip puppies to try alleviate the buzzing but to no avail. I was thinking of reducing one tooth on the rear sprocket to drop the revs when I’m touring.

    • @MalShakur
      @MalShakur 9 месяцев назад

      @Paulie44 Thanks man and yes, my hands definitely get a bit tingley at those RPM's. I'll usually use the cruise control and move my hands and fingers around a bit to prevent them from going numb. I'm thinking about adding bar end weights to help alleviate the problem.

    • @Paulie44
      @Paulie44 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@MalShakurI’ve already tried bar end weights from R&G (stainless bar end weights) and when they turned up I weighed them and found them loads lighter than the standard Suzuki bar end weights, so I never bothered fitting them. Can’t recall the exact weight difference but it was quite a big difference.
      I think the best solution may be to alter the gearing slightly to drop the revs for 70mph cruising.
      I had a good look at the GX in the showroom and noticed it has a rubber gasket between the handlebars mount and the top triple clamp - Suzuki must’ve listened to feedback from owners to remove the vibrations.

    GT is "day long comfortable" for those coming off from nakeds or clip-on bikes. It seems like you will be very happy with an upright 2 cylinder touring machine. I believe you would love the Moto Guzzi V85 (rode it, I loved it, not good for city riding) or something similar.
    I can have almost as much fun on a street triple 765 as with my GT but I can ride it all day too, with some compromises of course, which I knew before I bought it. I have the the gsxs gt for 3 years now. 20,000 km odo. I have to say the headlights are bright enough for me, high beam on the gt is overkill as it was like a beam shooting right in front and lit up the side as well, blinding anyone in front which can cause hazard . The side panniers, i rarely took them off, I dont think it is designed for you to take it on and off all the time. It is a brilliant design, you only need your key to remove the pannier, no tools needed which is very handy when you need to do repairs. I do agree the OEM seat is not really that comfy, I have changed mine to an italian made one with memory foam which makes it so much better. The seat and auxiliary lights you bought was sadly your fault for not making sure if it fits the bike and if the seat is right for you. The heated grips are expensive i do agree on that, but it works and get hot really quick rain or shine and the price of the bike compare to BMW or ducati is already a huge bargain.
    Comfort wise I have changed my seat, added all evo tech accessories for the GT like bar end weight and all other evo tech accessories for the GT. it was very fine for me. I am only 5"5, I feel very comfortable, the handle bar is just where it needs to be. Very well balanced bike even in very slow speed lane filtering, give me a lot of confidence to go crawling speed slow and screaming fast if needs to be. Bar end weight does help so much with the vibration.

    You raise some generally applicable good points. Most review videos only mention comfort in regard to the seat and the usual suggestion there is to get a different (expensive) seat if it does not suit They usually fail to mention rough road performance and how the suspension performs, particularly in regard to the amount of suspension travel. Another neglected aspect is the seating triangle which is relevant to how body weight is distributed between bum, arms and feet. which has a lot to do with comfort, eg if your back is not the best concentrating weight on the bum will transfer it through the spine.

I was only on it for about an hour and a half, but I thought it was a wonderful ride, except for the loud ticking noise, almost a knock, coming from the engine. A little research online revealed that a defective cam chain tensioner is standard at no extra cost, but no, Suzuki does not want to admit that every single GT sold will develop the problem after a few thousand miles. Why do the manufacturer's choose to stonewall on such obvious defects? No Suzuki's for me.

    I have test driven it and found it probably not too comfortable for the following reason: The bike has foot pegs placed in a more forward position which places your center mass on the hip instead of the feet. In a long-distance travel, the shocks on the road transfer into your back which in turn makes you uncomfortable. Moving the pegs a little backward usually makes it better but given the low height of this particular bike if you move the pegs backward it will still not be comfortable unless you raise the seat height at the same time. This is also one of the reasons why I am still not buying it yet: It needs a lot of adjustments to be ideal for me.

    Each to their own but I find mine comfortable enough for me, I don't find any motorcycle comfortable after about a full tank of fuel so stopping for fuel and resting my legs/bum/arms seems just about right for me.On the subject of lights I have not ridden mine at night so I can't comment on that one but other owners I have spoken to have all said how good they are and I have seen lots of youtube tests before I bought mine and none of them ever mentioned bad lights. But what I really have to take issue with on your remarks is the term ' budget bike' . Budget bike? at twelve and a half grand for the standard version? It's the same price as a Ninja 1000 SX and around the same price as a Similar spec Tracer 9. Budget? really ?

I had Z650, Z900, Tenere and now own Hypermotard 950 and Aprilia RS660, and funny enough the RS660 is by far the most comfortable bike I have ridden or owned so far. Hands going numb, taint going numb, seating position I'm actually a bit more comfortable on my GSXR 600 with heli-bars. Neck gets sore on the Ninja.
    You nailed it though it takes a few weeks to figure out many possible issues.
    None of us really wants a bike that's 'not a bad bike', we want a bike that continues to amaze and inspire us. I wouldn't trash my Ninja but going 75 mph redline 2nd gear on an inline four 1000cc is where I draw the line.

    Hi and thanks for the review, you've got a nice way of presenting your opinions 👍
    I've literally just bought one so only done a few miles. The bike was second hand at 20 months and 3000 miles. Still looks in great condition but a few of the fasteners on the lower fairing are starting to dull.
    I've got this to replace my 2011 z1000sx which has been superb over 38000 miles. I've also got a K6.
    First impressions for me when leaving the dealership was the comfort of the Suzuki felt better than the sx, specifically the bars that feel like a better angle on the wrists. The seat also felt comfier and i was using a Sargent seat on the sx, so i wasn't expecting it to feel better. It will be interesting to see what happens once I get a couple of hours riding under my belt.
    I immediately noticed the reduced torque on the Suzuki, the sx gives the impression of being much more flexible in the lower ranges. The Suzuki is a lovely engine too but completely different characteristics.
    I also noticed the lack of wind protection, had a puig screen on the sx and the Suzuki came with a powerbronze screen which doesn't feel bad but there is a noticeable difference between the two bikes and the sx wins.
    My panniers come off quite easily. Interesting point about the headlights. I've seen a few reviews and some people say their a revelation, others say they're terrible, haven't done anything night riding yet but it feels like i might be rolling the dice on this one 😂.
    I've also noticed an intermittent a loud and noticeable clunking when coming to rest, a bit like lose head bearings but would have thought it would be more consistent if that was the cause. I'm going to have to take her back for the dealer to investigate.
    I know it's early days for me but I do feel slightly disappointed at this stage, a bit like I've got a new girlfriend but preferred the old one 😢. I'm sure she'll grow on me but your review has left me feeling a certain amount of trepidation.

    Thank you for that review. I was considering this bike because on paper, as you mentioned, seemed like has everything. However, seat comfort is something that seems to be ignored by many reviews and I think that is fully off the mark. The seat, as in a car, is an important part of the suspension in the way that it gives comfort/support to the occupant/rider. I have gotten on many bikes and it is immediately obvious to me with i.e. XSR900 for example, that riding that for more than 30 mins, your ass will want an immediate divorce. Sure it will wheelie with a crack of the throttle, but if that is your purpose for owning a street bike, you won't have your license very long. In any case, I have nixed this from my list based on your review and I appreciate the heads up.

    First, I never considered this bike for any type of actual touring or "sport-touring" no matter how it is marketed. There are MUCH better bikes for that. I purchased it to be a ripping sport bike I can ride through the twisty roads on good-weather days and there it excels. The bike was great other than the HORRID rear shock (which was ok with the author) and terrible seat. I replaced both (K-tech shock and Sargent seat) and now it's close to perfect for me. I'm 5'7" and have no problem with the riding position.
    I couldn't tell you about the lights because I never ride at night, ever, but I do want good high beams for daytime visibility. I will look into how they are adjusted soon.
    I do not ride with panniers but the few times I mounted them, YES, the right one is an absolute pain in the butt to get off! They are also very cheap and flimsy IMO.
    I installed Oxford heated grips for 1/3 the price of OEM. Why anyone would consider the OEM grips is beyond me as they are substandard at best. 4500 miles on and I still love the exhilaration this bike gives me. No problems with the paint at all. Speed, power and handling are off-the-charts good.

    Everyone entitled to an opinion I guess. I don’t have any gripes with my GT. I didn’t buy luggage for mine as I won’t use for touring and wanted to save some cash. Comfort wise…. I’ve ridden far worse. The things I thought you were going to flag up weren’t here so all good.

    Everything you listed as a negative is a positive for me I cannot abide naked bikes they are objectively less bike for the same money in my opinion and I love a 4 and high revving. The part about the paint and bag issues I just can't believe those are warranty issues you could have taken the bike back for

    Hi have a 2024 model. Lovely looking machine but… totally agree with you. 2 hour ride and real coccyx discomfort. Well, a real pain in the butt. Fine for short runs but as a sports tourer, sorry, but no, px on the cards. Only my opinion and not prepared to splash out loads of cash on a ‘comfort seat’. Looking at the Ninja thousand performance tourer

  • @saulocpp
    @saulocpp 7 месяцев назад

    Was it your first sports tourer? I know it is too late now and far from me teaching anyone their business, but your complaints about the long riding are common when coming from other styles. Sidebags sell because they are practical, but worthless on a SpTourer, all you need is a tank bag tall enough to lean/hug on it and but still read the dash (instant relief on shoulders/wrists), and maybe a backpack on the passenger seat. The weight must be at the front, going against the geometry of a SpTourer is a losing fight, no matter how much money you spend, and the dealer won't tell you that because they want to sell you shit.

      Kind of - I had a SuperDuke GT before that was more comfortable. The Gixxus GT is based on a super naked so I thought it might be similar to the SDGT, but it's less comfy. And yeah, trying to make the bike something it wasn't supposed to be didn't work! Selling was the right option for me - love my V-Strom now 🙂

    Suzuki also made a strange gearing choice for this bike. 5,000 RPM at 70 MPH is very busy for a tourer. Even my old reliable SV thou is doing 80 at those revs.

    • @tonychettleburgh8953
      @tonychettleburgh8953 9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I agree on that ,it is a bit busy at 70mph. My ZX9R is about 4,500 at 70 and feels much better for it.

    • @Paulie44
      @Paulie44 9 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed, although I thought it coincides with 6,000 rpm.
      Whatever the speed/rpm at 70mph I get vibrations through the handlebars which numb my fingers after long stints on motorways when I’m touring across the continent. I tried fitting grip puppies but these didn’t seem to help much.
      I’ve noted the new GX has a rubber gasket between the handlebar clamp and top of the triple clamp, so I’m wondering if Suzuki would retrofit such a gasket to the GT?

    • @michaelarchangel1163
      @michaelarchangel1163 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@Paulie44 It's odd that this came about. I don't recall any complaints about vibrations when the K5/6 engine was in its original guise as a sports bike. In 1983 I bought a new Yamaha XJ900F which was terrible at above 80MPH but was attended to b Yamaha the year following. The rubber gasket you spoke of also reminded me of a 1975 Suzuki T500 two stroke twin I had back then, which had so much rubber below the bar clamps that it felt as though Spongebob had designed it.

    • @Paulie44

      @@michaelarchangel1163I’ve had earlier versions such as the 2001 K1 and then a later 2015 GSXR 1000 and neither suffered vibrations in the handlebars and I could ride for hours.
      I’m keen to test the new GX and see how that runs on motorways because on my continental tours we cover a lot of miles on motorways to get to our riding destination, and then spend a week in the mountain twisties wherever we are.

      Strangely enough, now that my GT has just over 1000 miles on her I was on the M25 this morning doing exactly 70mph and the revs are bout 4,800 so I guess that it is loosening up. That was on the flat with a slight headwind and no tingles or vibrations anywhere, really smooth and comfortable.

    I have to agree, I have owned mine for one year 6,400 miles and now it is for sale. This bike is a great sport bike with baggage. If you want to go fast and take your lunch, water, stuff etc. it is great. If you are carving canyons, moving around and going at a fast pace it is so much fun. But I cannot ride it for more than an hour. Somehow Suzuki made a touring bike that has an awful seat and a cramped peg position. I wanted a touring bike with some sportiness. I got a heavy sport bike that is super uncomfortable. I did put a Suzuki comfort seat, and it was a bit better but still my Aprilia 660 had a far better seat. The bike is super reliable, and I have had no mechanical issues. But boy is it uncomfortable.

      @@mikeglick3507 I don’t agree with the comfort comment. We all fit differently. I’m 6’1. And It’s not uncomfortable for me. The windshields that are available cause me to have some buffeting. But otherwise I have no other complaints. It’s a grand touring bike. Not a touring bike. Once that is realized it’ll make sense.

    What a shame, we really need more choice in the Sports Tourer end of the market (as opposed to Adventure bikes masquerading as Sports Tourers. I can't believe they've launched a bike in 2024 with poor headlights. It just shouts form over function. These days given the technology available they should be lighting up the street.
