SNES Wins. It seems like the SNES version is running at 60fps whereas the Sega CD version only runs at 30fps. You can see the differences at Mai Shiranui and Andy Bogard's stages where the water flows. It flows smoothly in the SNES version whereas it tend to struggle in the Sega CD port.
Voan Siam don’t worry about “water flows”, it’s an animated tile has zero to do with frame rates. Both are 60Hz, snes just has more slowdown (and slow controls).
The SNES port was amazing. One of the best conversions.
Not really, they botched the music (It just sounds weird now) and some of the voice samples.
@@ajsingh4545 what do you mean the music is quite good.
@@diobrando-qv3uv sounds nothing like the neo Geo version, they took too many liberties with it. They even made sone tracks sound worse.
@@ajsingh4545 of course it doesn't sound exactly like it there using a different sound chip plus the remixes of some songs is nice to have while not all the songs are good the onces that aren't that good are at least decent in my opinion but whatever opinions exist have a good day.
@@diobrando-qv3uv Its not the chip tunes, they changed the compositions a bit to make the track sound somewhat different. Go listen to fatal fury 2 on snes, this sounds much more faithful.
The frame rate looks more fluid on SNES.
I’m glad I never bought a Mega CD with my Megadrive…
And I’m definitely glad to have wait for the release of the PlayStation to get a new console.
Fortunately, some friends were ok to swing consoles sometimes. ( My Megadrive Vs Super NES… The old good times ! 😂😂😂)
A great game and very good ports, on snes only NTSC. Better on Mega CD in terms of sprites, some animations and speed but, on the other hand backgrouds are better on snes and other animations are slightly better, finally there is some kind of zoom effect too when changing planes. CD version was made with haste in order to give a complete game without bugs because of the samurai shodown Amakusa's stage bug. I missed the megadrive version, I liked 1 so much and 2 was a hit.
There's also a bug in this Fatal Fury port. Notice how every time Ryo does a special move in the sega cd port, the AI goes completely braindead until the special move is finished. The arcade version also had this AI bug, so my guess is that Funcom (the people who made the sega cd port of this game and samurai shodown) just copied and pasted the code from the arcade version without even bothering to test it.
"Mozart Requiem" & "Big Bear or Raiden"
Stage music on the Sega CD is the slight benefit from playing both version...
Takara did a better job porting FFS than Capcom did porting their own Super SF2 to the SNES. FFS is one of the best SNES fighters, hands-down 👍. I loved this game growing up, being a huge fan of the Neo-Geo original. The Neo-Geo CD version has really good Redbook remixes of all the game's music!
The only 1 negative is they made the cheat code unlock for Ryo from Art of Fighting a pain too unlock .... only get a split second to press up up up down down random buttons.. come on couldn't they just unlock him after beating the game like good ol tekken games or a simple cheat 4 letter code...
@@joezar33 They should've just unlocked him right from the START... Wasn't Ryo already a selectable character in the arcade version?
32mb
@joehes already unlocked in my snes version from the start 77andino
Nintendo wins at FFS. Mega CD has a lot of missing details in backgrounds. Duck King's and Ryo's stages look glaringly bad on MCD. Ryo's stage on SNES is awesome with the parallax clouds and the red sky in round 2. Monolith (not related to the makers of F.E.A.R., nor Monolith Soft who made Xenosaga and is now a Nintendo first party) did amazing work on the SNES cart.
THE SNES PAL VERSION DIDN’T HAVE CHENG, BIG BEAR,AXEL HAWK AND LAWRENCE BLOOD
Snes forever
Thats a tough one.
Its great on Snes but also very good on Mega CD,missing animations on backgrounds is due to limited cd ram, this problem even plagues some of Snk's own Neogeo Cd games.
Yes, it seems that JVC decided to use the Mega-CD's RAM on the sprites and character animation.
The Mega CD backgrounds are lame and really poor for the hardware, they use a single bg plane and horizontal interruptions to change the scroll, it would be perfectly possible to get an almost pixel perfect version, if any, less colorful, but with almost all it's original elements present if they used the two planes that at least provided MegaDrive. And sprites don't even have zoom. A missed chance for a superior hardware
They were obviously in a BIG hurry to rush the game out... That was how the gaming scene was back in the 90's!
@@OtomoTenzi not that it was a matter of life and death for them, alas a bit more of care would have worked wonders. The SNes version was superior
@@santitabnavascues8673 That's because the game developer who did the SNES port (Monolith) was way more competent and they did an EXCELLENT job... The Sega CD version was outsourced to a crappy half-assed developer known as FUNCOM; who was known for their very poor watered-down and half-cooked ports. These guys obviously don't know what they're doing! Either Sega wasn't paying them enough for this project or they just didn't feel like porting it themselves? 🤨
@@OtomoTenziEverytime SNES port is well made and not rushed, It wins over Genesis. Better System.
Takara used mode 1 on the snes which has 3 graphical playfields in contrast to sega cd's 2 playfields which makes a big differance in this game.
SNES also had a better color palette with more simultaneously different colors between sprites and backgrounds and in total. That plus the fact that the CD was obviously a rushed port has the SNES winning this.
Sega cd version may have the identical music than the arcade but some soundtrack like the victory theme is missing, and even some stage has a missing feature. Take an example of Jubei's stage, the breakable boards are missing in the Sega Cd version while the snes have it. Yes gotta admit that the SNES version of the soundtrack may not reach the Neo geo version (it's still good in it's own way), otherwise it has everything in it.
Where are the paralax efects on Mega Cd side?
not many levels have it, same issue with the PCE CD version too. Does have larger sprites and better sound though.
It is strange that the Snes version have the flags on the stage of Mai on the CD not
The CD conversion was outright lazy, it could have been much better, many scroll details were missing, and it's not like the size of the characters could have suffered at all. Was just there wasn't the drive to make a good conversion, it's like they took the genesis version of ff2 and just modded that.
Mega CD needed a Ram cart.
SNES graphics and Sega CD music mixed together would have been nice
Vancityplayboy ??? Sega CD graphics are clearly superior...
@@youtubeadmin1588 Only on fighters. Everything else Snes wins.
Cristiano Pereira that’s not true at all. There are dozens of games spanning all genres that are better on Sega CD and Genesis.
@@youtubeadmin1588 mega cd lost. Loading time alone is a big letdown.
@@youtubeadmin1588 So you are defending a known bad port to Sega CD, this game? Good lord dude, this port was doomed to fail, lile Sam Sho did because the developers at Funcom had no source code to work with at all. The Sega CD was a flop, not enough great games like a Lunar or Popful Mail on it.
Even the great PC Engine CD port of Fatal Fury Special laughs at the Sega CD version, and it is quite a proper port too.
the SNES had a nice remixed sound track (although a bit of reverb). However I bought the CD one in the end (on sale). Sprites are much bigger, it has the arcade style endings with voices. but the backgrounds are empty. Look at big bear or Joe's stage. where is everyone
And sometimes the they also sound a bit metallic
Snes , amazing

I think Laurence's looks better too on SNES 24:24
@@StrokedGT snes VERSION IS BETTER AT ALL SPECS
Wow, I would expect snes to win against an upgraded cd based console, but here we are!
What is the sound of the video? From snes or Sega?
Both, You can tell the snes sound when you hear a weird echo and the scd sound when there's no echo and better sounding music.
Thats why u need headphones
Don't forget that the European SNES version left out Big Bear, Cheng, Axel, and Laurence.
NTSC SNES wins!
People in PAL land really got screwed over a lot over the years.

This is another conversion that went through many attempts, the Japanese, European and American versions have different ROM sizes on Super Nintendo, the Japanese version was developed by Monolith, in the USA it was reprogrammed by Takara with 32mbits while the European version has 24mbits , the results were strange, although there was a movement that was reprogrammed by pressing the combination "down + X" everything else looks the same. I wonder how that space would have been used?
The Sega CD got more frames in the character select screen but when the game starts....... Much worse frames than the snes. Really bad conversion
The SNES version is awesome!
I wonder why the Sega CD version doesn't have the Neo Geo scaling. The CD was more than capable of that.
its a half-assed port. As you can see in games like Soul Star, the Sega-CD had some amazing sprite scaling ability.
@@SomeOrangeCat That is true. The Sega CD library could have been so much more interesting if developers actually took advantage of the extra power of the Sega CD
@@DanielAyy Even FMV could have been used better. I mean some devs got it. Silpheed used it very well. They rendered footage of flat shaded polygonal capitol ships, asteroids and planets, and it matched the play field objects perfectly. Creating this seamless illusion that the whole game was real-time polygons.
@@SomeOrangeCat 'HALF-ASSED PORT' is the correct term used here... Also, I suspect that JVC didn't really even know the SegaCD's hardware all that well! JVC should've NEVER been allowed to make this port. Since when was JVC ever known for making high quality videogames? If SNK or Takara handled it instead, they would've done a much better port!
Its the hardware you dummy not the cd

As much as I'd love to love the Sega CD version, out of anything here the load times are the most aggregious. Also considering it has to load all the time on the Sega CD, there are many aspects that are graphically worse than the SNES version, not only do you have to wait for loading times but it doesn't look as good in many instances.
For around the same price and with load times, might as well just get the NGCD version then... 🤔
Love how clean and nice the Mega CD looks, but backgrounds are missing dumb details like people, or that duck king stage display has no animations, its a shame because it looks awesome.
Sega CD lacks parallax scrolling to, the first stage in this video is very noticeable with that.
Mega cd visually looks almost as neo geo, but other things like nes xD
Caramba, JVC!

Missing animation, but the Mega CD version's sprites are look ripped straight from the Neo Geo original. They weren't redrawn to be smaller like in the SNES version (or the Sega port of Fatal Fury 2), and the game runs in the console's higher res mode. Sound's pretty good too. It seems that the backgrounds got murdered to keep the sprites sizes and sound samples close to the originals.
The game looked great in screenshots but not so great in motion.
Because of the larger size, it also runs at 30fps so to not get an eyesore. Laurence stage in the Sega CD already seem like an eyesore a bit due to the constant dipping in framerates when the bull animations are in place.
The could've done ALOT better tho... Either JVC wasn't too familiar with the SegaCD hardware, or they were just in a BIG hurry to rush the game out! 🤔

It's Ryo, not Kyo. Kyo is exclusive to KOF. Ryo is from Art of Fighting. Art of Fighting took place in the same universe as Fatal Fury but in the event of AOF Ryo is many years older than Terry and Andy. That's why the match at the end was a Dream Match cause it never happen as a younger Ryo fought a prime Terry. In canon during Terry's prime in Fatal Fury, Ryo is much more older and is not young anymore. Dream Match only happen on SNK games so such a confrontation will happen but they are not canon. On the positive it has larger characters on screen, the presentation screens are nicer, bonus of CD music. This is even compared to Fatal Fury 2 on Genesis, which this should have been an extension of.

No, thats megabits not megabytes. The actual size of the Fatal Fury Special Geo cart is 23.76MB. The Snes is somewhere around 3.5MB. In actuality the Sega CD could have fit any Neo Geo game on disc as its a CD which has a max storage of 500MB (megabytes). Further, Fatal Fury Special on the Snes is not the biggest conversion on a 16-bit console. Super Street Fighter 2 was the biggest at 40 megabits on both the Sega Genesis and Snes respectively.

Seriously, how is the Game Gear version of Fatal Fury Special even more impressive than the Sega CD version? Funcom dropped the ball with the Sega CD version.
Id thought the It'd be no contest between the Sega Cd Version at first glance but the SNES retains more elements of the neo version. Sega CD doesnt have time of day changes, parallax scrolling is gone and some stages dont even animate at all or lose animated elements of the stages entirely. The character sprites are bigger on CD and animate better and the music is straight up arcade music, but the voice samples from the fighters sound terrible while they're lower quality on SNES but they're at least clear. SNES is just a more faithful port. There must have been a big reason why the sega cd version isnt closer.

Méga cd is superio... _(duck king's night club)_ *WTF MAN ????!!*
I have to give it to the snes. It is the overall better package. SCD has better looking sprites, some nice looking backgrounds, good voice samples, and the arcade soundtrack.
But the snes has better sprite animation on a whole, more detailed backgrounds (more parallax scrolling, animation and time changing), better sfx and just appears to be the better game overall. Takara simply did a much better job on porting to the snes than JVC/Funcom did with porting to SCD.
I think the guys who ported over Final Fight on SCD should have ported this game.
OMG! I'm so used to playing Sega CD games on emulation.
I forgot about the atrocious load times. 🤣
That's the one thing I don't miss about retro gaming in general.
Well no question, the Sega Mega CD easy victory!!!
Verdade
A magia do Ryo,é mais bem detalhada no SNES.
Pra variar a baixa resolução do SNES fazendo o console passar vexame.
Porque o SNES ficou limitado a meia resolução.
The pal version was cut down did you know that missing characters
What the hell Sega?.The lack of details in the backrounds has to be out of laziness, they had the power to do it properly!
Can't blame Sega for Funcom being the idiots. even though the SCD can't do a 100% perfect port its hardware was still capable of doing better than this. Samurai Shodown also should have turned out better than it did but the programming team didn't know what they were doing.
@@HellTantrumbull Sega prolly didn't pay them enough money to work on this port... Clearly the Sega CD's hardware was WAY MORE capable than this, when placed in the right developer's hands!
Snes wins for me. The screen maybe windowed, however paralax scrolling is there in the snes version and strangely not in the mega CD? .. Plus the load times of the mega cd would annoy me 😐
The SNES version also runs in 60fps whereas the Mega CD version is running at 30fps and dipping in animations. The bull animations in Laurence's stage, the way the river flows in Mai's stage, the moving parallax clouds in Geese stage, these flow much smoother in the SNES version. The only few goods the Mega CD version had is the good music, the bigger sprites and the fact that you can still see Mai's bouncing boobs (of course the Super Famicom version had that too, it just wasn't in the SNES version).

A versão do sega CD é melhot
With all the extra space on a CD and SegaCD version couldn't even do scrolling/lighting effects correctly. I'll still give SegaCD the win just by a hair.
Couldn't even do the parallax scrolling in the first stage
So you give a version that's worse a win? OK.
im a megadrive fan but the snes version is better here..even with the image resolution crop
sadly the neogeo ports of fatal fury 2 and special..are bad on the megadrive and CD..was bit dissapointed with fatal fury 2 port on the megadrive how nasty those graphics look...sega should not release it .
Sega CD requires you to buy a peripheral, costing about 100 dollars not counting the CD, and another power adapter. Snes is cheaper and a great effort for the system.
Some backgrounds on the CD are choppy. Compared to the snes. Some Sega backgrounds don't even move at all
The first paragraph of your post is ridiculously stupid! Sorry...
Snes, sans aucun doutes !!! ;)
what the hell is TODO doing the back ground of ryo's stage (snes)
Don't you see John Crawley on the tree?
The same as Ryo Sakazaki in a Fatal Fury game, for their timeline AOF happens 10 years before Fatal Fury.
@@MajinGouki i saw but...todo's movement is supecious lol
@@binkaram6577 He's actually cleaning something, but not sure what. Todoh seemed to do odd jobs, and his daughter Kasumi has been looking for him ever since the Sakazaki's disgraced him.
