  • ‘Let the bow do the work’ - bowmaker John Greenwood. I highly recommend visiting his shop in SF if you’re in the market. I recently bought a new bow from him and it’s made my life a lot easier.
Although my piano is due for a tuning, practicing with the recording I made still helped me with intonation, which is especially difficult due to all the diminished chords. I practiced slow for intonation and then increased the tempo gradually for the bow stroke.
Out of all the excerpts I know, this one might hit the point of diminishing returns the fastest. I can feel small muscles fatiguing after even a few minutes, and takes do not improve after that point for me until I take time to recover. I think a little bit of warming up at tempo is helpful just to make sure the bow stroke is under control, but I’d be very careful not to overpractice this one at tempo on the day of an audition.
