Its far too easy to underestimate how important Kislev is. If the rightfully named "Bulwark of the North" falls, its pretty much game over since every piece of land hiding behind it will be way easier to traverse for the enemy. If Kislev falls, the Empire soon follows. Once the Empire is gone, anything else in the Old World is going to go as well. The Empire thinks they're facing the worst the enemy has. Far from it.
The wings of the Polish Winged Hussars were actually a fear tactic, since panicking infantry is an extremely effective part of cavalry charges. It served to make the horse and rider even larger looking as well as causing a fierce clatter of metal from the metal feathers crashing against each other while charging. So you've have this group of gigantic looking armored horsemen that in addition to all the noise of a charge also have enough metal clattering to be an entire army of swords clashing against each other. The reason why this was important was because braced infantry can counter heavy cavalry relatively effectively. If you can cause a panic this result in the formation becomes far easier to penetrate, and at that point it's just a matter of chasing and chopping until they're dead or letting them rout as you move onto the next target. The Ungols sounds like a combination of Cossacks and Mongols.
Warhammer Fantasy Kislev is an everyday Polish reality. You wake up, get dressed, wrestle some polar bears on your way to work, try to dodge some chaos entities, and get a call from your wife that she forgot her cursed Frost Blade at home and you have to go pick it up and deliver it to her.

really good episode and overall a far improvement from the Greenskins episode. DK managed to relatively balance both important characters as well as general lore as well as some of the more nuanced small stuff that really fleshes out the faction and WH fantasy as a whole. the only things that I will say needs improvement (NAPWISS) is that DK should maybe emphasize a bit more that WH fantasy is not a Medieval Dark-High fantasy but a Renaissance/ early gunpowder era dark-high fantasy. Ok I doubt that dj bricky and shy will see this but I hope they do cause my god, they deserve to know. For one, the winged hussars were one of the last major heavy Calvary forces in Europe, and in fact contemporaries to them thought Poland was incredibly backwards for still using heavy Calvary. But anyways, one of the most famous battle the winged hussars partook in was the siege of Vienna, specifically its ending. Basically the Ottoman Empire had lay siege to Vienna for quite a while (years I think but don’t quote me) and Vienna was, at the time, the last major defensive bastion for quite the distance. Had the ottomans been able to take Vienna history likely would have been extremely different. But anyways, the winged hussars along with many other Calvary contingents arrived at a hilltop overlooking the ottoman siege camp. What came next was the LARGEST CALVARY CHARGE, in history, mind this was in 1527, cannons and rudimentary guns were not uncommon at this point. 20,000 people on horse back, in shining armor, proceed to as one charge down the hillside smashing into ottoman defensive lines breaking the siege and with it, ending the last serious push by the ottomans further into Europe. It is truly one of the few moments in history I wish I could see as a third person omniscient perspective.
58:14 The Hag Witches of Kislev can not look different, because they age a lot faster than normal people. Like, you see a "decrepit old woman" and she tells you that she is 27 years old. Once you are born with this "gift" of seeing the spirits of the land, that is your fate. Meanwhile, the Wise Women are basically the group of people to teach the young Hag Witches before their gifts "activate". They also do not directly use magic, but rather make deals with the spirits of the land and have them do stuff.

The painting that you put up to show actual historical cossacks (the Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks) has an entertaining story behind it. Apparently the sultan of Turkey sent a letter telling the cossacks to surrender to him. The letter they sent in response was ... less than polite. This is a painting of the supposed drafting of the supposed response to the Turkish Sultan. I recommend hitting wikipedia (Correspondence between the Ottoman sultan and the Cossacks) 'cause I'm afraid the best bits of the best versions are probably too vulgar for RUclips. But that is -exactly- the kind of response you'd expect to see from the guys in that picture -- or a bunch of Kislevites doing the same. I'm not sure of the actual veracity of the whole thing -- there are multiple versions of the response in the historical records -- but it's too entertaining for me to want it to be debunked.
*facepalm* No DK! Total War Warhammer 3 had Kataryn and Constalton from Kislev as part of the base factions for that game! Also Katarin's Dad Boris was the secret Lord you could unlock by finding him during Katarin's campaign!

Curious to see if DK will talk about the Ungol and Gospodar divide, and of course whether he will talk of the Wise women, sometimes called the Hags of Kislev, their way of using magic by using the spirits, and sacrificing their humanity to do so are horrifying and fascinating, they litteraly can reverse chaos mutations, which is considered to be impossible. It really shows you just how big Teclis' lie was when he told humans they couldn't be thought to harness more than one wind without becoming Dhar-corrupted, though unfortunately not all those ways are as easy, the sacrifice the wise women make to safeguard their people, to defend them from both Chaos and malevolent spirits is monumental, but their sacrifice helps their people survive. (it also shows why Brettonia should be given the fey units that they should have according to the lore, the spirits should be fighting alongside them, but nope)
Both hag and ice witches don't channel the winds directly, though. Both have them filtered through the respective spirits. Mind you, Teclis was also trying to explain to Magnus how he could train humans to use magic safely, and until The Old World retconned that, human mages were NOT safe or popular in the Empire until that time.
@@boyanpenev9822 the ones channeling it directly indeed weren't safe, but hedge magic, wjhich was a human tradition in the empire was pretty safe, however to my knowledge they don't directly channel the winds, they have a different view on it, unfortunately there isn't much lore on them , it doesn't help that unsanctioned wizards also get branded as "hedgewizard" which makes researching them even more confusing. They were never popular though, in that you are correct and the danger was still there.

"Hey! Where the wise women at?" distant ancestor of Sheriff Bart.
Bricky thinking about the forsworn from skyrim when looking at the ungols :D
Gospodar is an actual thing. Funnily enough it’s a Slavic term for lord or master.
The actial term is "gospodin"
Practically master or can be used as "mr."
@@swatcccp4673 Gospodar or Hospodar as lord or master exists in several Slavic languages, especially south slavic. It's also related to also related to Gospod, which is the Lord, as in "The Lord thy god."
@boyanpenev9822 thank you for the addition. I wrote the russian version of this word, reckon its also relevant here.
The only people who are always unhappy that the episode is too long : Shy, Bricky and DK. Everyone who's watching is like "You're cutting it short AGAIN?!"
Do you think you guys could do grand Cathay
They didn't talk about the orthodoxy.
Kizlev: Russia, but it's always Winter.
They have Winged Hussars that ride polar bears. WINGED 👏 HUSSARS 👏 RIDING 👏 POLAR BEARS 👏. And GW isn't giving us Kislev as an army in the Old World.
12:21 Sleigh
I knoe they've had hints and little bits here and there but man i need more kislev stuff in AoS
I wish cities of sigmar had more relics from the old world, Brettonian, Kislev, Araby, even Cathayan flavoring mixed in on the human sides.
Do Cathay for the next human faction please 🙏
Love this series ❤ for Karl!
Pirates when? Not just the vamp coast but also others
Man
Bricky those are turnaround concept art.. theyre drawing the backside of the bear because its used for 3d modelling...
it is not just name map you showed prague is actually quite similar and just more buildings in present
59:04 Wait a sec. Isn't that the physical manifestation of the land itself? Not a hag witch/mother?
can't wait for them to talk about sigvald
I know warhammer fantasy came first but I played league of legends first, so can help but see so many freljord champion parallels. Ash, sejuani, volibear, trundle, lissandra, Olaf, udyr are all there.
"welcome to Kislev" - Kislev man
I can't be the only one missing premiers because they don't go live on YT Music at the same time right? Just curious if that's intended or not. I'd have consumed this earlier whilst at work.
I really hope we will get an Ogre episode eventually
edit: also something about the Dragon Ogres
I hate mixing up Ungols and Ungors
Considering GW has basically done away with that, probably not
Both hag and ice witches don't channel the winds directly, though.
Yes I have been waiting
warhammer fantasy lore episodes is mostly they learning about history or not realizing they are talking about history.
My favorite fantasy faction
Yep the winged hussars is correct. Elite polish cavalry
Bear, Vodka and ice. That is a Kislev way.
