dude, I read a lot of the 90s stuff in omnibuses or pirated online ... most of it is utter garbage. I was drawn to it as a kid, but I was in my early teens, dumb little idiot. Image only got good when Warren Ellis took over Stormwatch. but that dude's a real writer
Aaaand it's years later and I haven't heard a thing about Angela and it seems like people don't really care about Age of Ultron with the exception of it sharing a name with Avengers 2.
It's kinda funny that no one really cared about Angela back when she was with Image, cuz I've absolutely adored what Marvel's been doing with Angela since they got her.
tcoren1 Well, they gave her her own series, Angela: Asguard's Assassin. I haven't read that yet, but what I HAVE read is the Secret Wars tie-in miniseries, 1602: Witch Hunter Angela. EASILY the best thing to come out of Secret Wars, I absolutely adore their mix of Tolkien-esque fantasy, 17th century England, and the Marvel Universe. Angela also currently has a series in the All New, All Different Marvel universe, called Angela: Queen of Hel, where she is (surprise surprise) the Queen of the Norse realm of the dead, Hel, having conquered the realm to save her lover, Serah. She's a badass.
+InsertCleverNameHere Asgard's Assassin was by far the best solo book she got in Marvel, imo, everything else has just slowly been going downhill, Queen of Hel got cancelled, it's kind of sad what's happened to her character, she's actually pretty cool
3:41 - Oh yeah, the Tony Twist thing, where it turned out Todd borrowed the name of a hockey player for one of Spawn's villains without asking him first, and said player didn't like that and sued him for it
5:30 Hey, MovieBob looks a little like The Game Overthinker. I wonder if they're related or something. They both promote that Super Mario Bros book by that one guy, Bob Chipman I think is his name. But that could be a coincidence. By the way, anyone else ever notice Board James looks a bit like the AVGN? And they kind of sound like that guy James Rolfe from Cinemassacre too but maybe that's just me.
I don't know about the Miracle Man stuff but in an interview in The Comics Journal Gaiman said that essentially McFarlane never gave him a contract after making verbal agreements with him and that's what started the whole thing.
Neil Gaiman created that godawful nineties vomit? Fucking Gaiman. The guy who wrote the Sandman comics? I like to imagine he took one look at what was expected of characters at the time and just said "Fuck it I am not even going to bother"
Gaiman is like any other great artist. Not everything he cranks out is going to be solid gold. Decides he needed something to do during the 90's I guess. To be fair his contributions to spawn were probably the best aspects of the entire run of Spawn.
Yeah, also dude's gotta eat. He was also building his name and following in the 90's. He wasn't the superstar writer we all think of today. He used to be the most famous writer you've never heard of but now he's just famous.
Cj Young Why all the Angela hate? Angela was one of Spawn's greatest arch rivals until the Todd and Neil lawsuit. Angela was also a bad ass in the Spawn cartoon. I remember when them goons tried to rape Angela in that dark alley, and she fucked all of them up. Marvel would do great things with a character like Angela if they owned all of the rights to that character.
Tamentonen Hageshi I wasn't hating on Angela, I was just sayin' not everything an artist does is there "best work" which is the way a lot of folks see Sandman.
Tamentonen Hageshi Well different strokes for different folks. I personally thought Spawn was the sum of everything wrong with comics in the 90's and definately should have ended dureing the "Armagedon" Arch (to be fair, that was'nt bad as far as spawn goes). I think Image got a lot better when Robert Kirkman with Skybound came into play for Image.
I subscribed for the obvious, but find all of the Escapist stuff good. Except Geekend update and news thing. Also like the multi-episode one of these. Well done.
+Peter LeBlanc (haitileblanc) Did you see the documentary, where Todd, said he did not like what Marvel did with comics in the 90's for having variant covers, so people will buy to collect? Then Todd made variant features with the same toys, for the purpose of people to buy and collect.
What was the first clue speaking about creators rights and then in the contract putting in fine print, hidden under a flap in Klingon translated from Elvish and written both backwards and upside down:"The Creator of the Title Character, i.e. Me owns all the rights to everything that goes into the book."
Considering how their ban-happy forum moderators are scaring people away from their website, this doesn't surprise me. People can't have a decent discussion, or even mildly heated debate, over anything without the moderators handing out warnings, suspensions, and bans like they're free promo swag at Pax Prime.
Can't blame a guy who made a comic character to make him into an action figure, that can be a dream that either parallels him in comic making or was his original dream before comics. I wanted to be an Animator, Director, Storyboard artist and/or Character Designer for a traditional animated feature or a T-animated series. In the end I have to resort to comics to fill in that dream based on how the industry works these days (comic books into movies and what-not) in honesty, I applause Todd
I feel like people started to hate on Todd McFarland as a cool thing for the last few years now. I remember he was always liked and respected for years.
*Cries in corner* Why are you yelling at me Movie Bob?! I am already a subscriber! :( Also I have to get back into Marvel comics. Sort of fell of the wagon when Darg Reign ended in Siege...
He did not say Gaiman was unoriginal he said those two characters were unoriginal, and he was right. I mean Medieval Spawn, really. Hey I just invented Bronzes Age Spawn.
So Gaiman sells the rights to his character to MARVEL meaning McFarlane has to go crawling back to the company he walked out on in the 1990s if he wants to use her in Spawn ever again....that's going to go down in history as the single greatest act of trolling ever and possibly the best revenge one can get on their boss of all time
I see that as a giant "fuck you" to Mcfarlane from Gaiman for wasting their mutual time on nearly 20 years of court battles...which, I suppose, is saying the same thing.
Lesson of the day: when making deals and partnerships, lawyer up, get it on paper, and make sure its on the up and up. Unless you wanna end up in the legal mess McFarlane he got himself in. As for subscribing, done and done, Bob. I may have said this before, but it should be repeated: There is other content other than Zero Punctuation, people! Aside from ZP and Bob's Escape to the Movies and Big Picture, I also enjoy Jimquisition, Unskippable, and Movie Defense Force.
I would actually fucking love it if they put Miracleman in the marvel movies. For a while there I thought they were going to. There was that bit with von Strucker in the winter soldier bonus scene where he says "This is the age of miracles." Which I'm sure is a line I remember someone saying in one of the Miracleman books. They could fit him in well enough I reckon. For all intents and purposes he's just another human enhanced by alien technology. Just with some false memories thrown in there. That's easy!
And why would that be? Fanservice? probably less than 10% of Marvel Fanboy Universe knows about Miracleman, let alone read about him. It's too much of a character to let it go to waste to that SJW-pandering parafernalia called MCU.
sooooo, in a runabout way, Marvelman is DC's Shazam, so, now not only does Marvel get to own the name Captain Marvel, but also gets a little piece of DC's Captain Marvel aka Shazam? HAH! that's pretty cool and funny actually
The whole idea of the villain coming back in issue 25 is absolutely preposterous. I'm glad they never 'finished' this series, and I hope they never do.
In my opinion, Miracleman should get his own series on either Netflix or Amazon Prime. A movie, though? I’m not so sure. Speaking of movies, I don’t think the MCU should do a Miracleman movie. Not they couldn’t do a movie. They certainly could, but I don’t think Disney would take the story or concept of Miracleman (at least the Alan Moore run) seriously, enough. I know Miracleman is now owned by Marvel, but I still think they should leave this character alone. Plus, I think the plot for Miracleman would be too mature for young audiences. Not to mention, too complex.
You want to be an animator? I got something in mind. Message me when you get this comment, I got something I want to do as well, a feature length animated movie, but I want to compose a demo reel first.
If MarvelMan is really anything like Superman, I'd rather him not join the Marvel Movies. We already have a ridiculously overpowered character named Thor, we don't need more.
FYI: Marvelman is probably the best superhero comic ever made, way more darker and deeper than Watchmen. We still have secret Wars coming, and given how that will deal with multiple universe and Marvel is running a brand new annual writen by gaiman leads me to believe they have something planed for him.
These stupid "Subscribe nao" endings are telling me to unsubscribe, and I really don't see how a first timer would want to be some sort of pseudo-bullied? In any case it's really annoying and I think either add a WHOLE lot more tact or give up on it entirely.
I read about a years worth of Spawn, and what Bob says is absolutely spot on. It's a bunch of artists who can't write worth a damn.
dude, I read a lot of the 90s stuff in omnibuses or pirated online ... most of it is utter garbage. I was drawn to it as a kid, but I was in my early teens, dumb little idiot.
Image only got good when Warren Ellis took over Stormwatch. but that dude's a real writer
@@fuckoffannoyingutube yeah but he can be edgey just for the sake of being shocking
and apparently Angela is now Thor's long lost sister... kinda like with He-man and She-ra
Aaaand it's years later and I haven't heard a thing about Angela and it seems like people don't really care about Age of Ultron with the exception of it sharing a name with Avengers 2.
+grant658 Yeah Angela never appeared in Age Of Utron
She didn't but did join the Guardians of the Galaxy
What are you talking about? I literally just read AoU and she appears in the last issue after Wolverine breaks the time continium.
Angela's Marvel story arcs have been great tho.
Tximino M z
It's kinda funny that no one really cared about Angela back when she was with Image, cuz I've absolutely adored what Marvel's been doing with Angela since they got her.

taun94 I LOVED Queen of Hel, honestly. Her relationship with Sera was fantastic and the action was so epic.
The 3-issue Angela mini-series published by Image in the 90s, written by Gaiman and drawn by Capullo was the best.
3:41 - Oh yeah, the Tony Twist thing, where it turned out Todd borrowed the name of a hockey player for one of Spawn's villains without asking him first, and said player didn't like that and sued him for it

Who the heck was that guy in the end and why is he interrupting the multi-headed host of this show?
I wanna see a crossover episode between Moviebob, Game Overthinker and Bob Chipman.
Turns out Angela didn't appear in Avengers 2 (it was Scarlet Witch)
*Gasp* Said no one who watched Winter Soldier.
I don't know about the Miracle Man stuff but in an interview in The Comics Journal Gaiman said that essentially McFarlane never gave him a contract after making verbal agreements with him and that's what started the whole thing.
Todd McFarlane eventually ended up going super saiyan, and the world hasn't been the same since.
I've watched all this a couple of times now and I'm STILL confused.
Comics are weird
Been subbed for a long time now, in fact can't remember when I last logged into on to the website, just watch everything on here now.
Lol that NHL player sued Todd Mcfarlane for using his name as a character in his comicbook. (Mafia boss Spawn enemy Tony Twist).
+1Million Eyes I still don't get that one, especially since the comic character didn't have his likeness. Also, is that the hockey player's real name?

how big a picture are we talking here.. I'm confused -- I thought this show discussed broader topics surrounding the making and reception of movies. ?
would love to see a miracle man movie
The only hope it could have is to be a Netflix series. Movies would dumb down everything so much that it wouldn't even be the same.
I think Miracle Man might be the character I had in some comic book I used to own but the suit's different so maybe not.
As explained in the previous video, he actually is.

Aaaaaaaand as it would turn out? Angela is now in the MCU were I am sure she will remain as irrelevant as she was in the 90's.
