Time Lapse of Old House Demolition and New Construction

- Time lapse showing the demolition of our old house and the construction of our new house!
We bought this property in 2014 and lived in the existing house for 4 years. We then demolished the old house and self-built a new one in the same location. I acted as the General Contractor (for the work that we didn't do ourselves). My dad and I did the framing, windows, siding, electrical, plumbing, insulation, drywall, paint, flooring, tile, and my dad built the kitchen cabinets, along with lots of help from friends and family along the way.

Beautiful house that doesn't look like it belongs there
who asked you, bitch?
Big beautiful home 15 feet away from another home. That house needs to be on the middle of a couple acres minimum.
Most municipalities where I live (Canada) are seriously compressing the size of new building lots. They hate big lots now and therefore buying a large lot becomes very expensive. I hate it because I want a large building lot myself.
Right!
A couple acres? That’s 80,000 sqft. 21,000 sqft is a half acre which is more than enough

Don’t own a home but in the next ten yrs I plan to. Love all these construction videos 👍🏾
@RUclips WantsToSilenceMe Why are you bringing politics into this?
@Weezy I suggest changing that to three years.😉. #youcandoit
@RUclips WantsToSilenceMe no it's not loser go outside and touch grass pls
@RUclips WantsToSilenceMe shut up please👍
Cute home and great video, thanks! 10 months to build, excluding demo? I was thinking that was a long time until I read you did it yourself. 10 months is amazing for an owner builder!!! Nice job guys!!
rockkitty100 thanks! Yes - we moved out of the old house in February and then moved into the new house right before Christmas.
Amazing job! I can only imagine the effort it took to film all that and put it together for us.
Thanks! Filming it wasn’t too bad (just a time lapse mounted outside - although in hindsight, I which I had a second one to film more of the interior progress). Editing and stitching everything together wasn’t certainly time consuming though!
@Gameygames101 The camera takes two AA batteries. We bought some high quality lithium ion AAs and they would last a couple of weeks before having to recharge them. Since it was a timelapse, it would only have to take a picture every hour, so there wasn't much drain on the batteries.
@Gameygames101 Thanks! I really appreciate it!
Came to these comments to see people talk shit about every step of this process and y’all didn’t disappoint
I love how you took down the old completely and enlarged/modernized it! That was great!
Thanks!
@@HivetoHome Why Do You Destroy It?
@@HivetoHome I'm a woman and I am looking to do the same thing. Would you mind, do you have any tips for building from scratch? I see your dad knows his stuff, did you learn your skills from him? Did you go to school for it? Lastly, how long did the project take from demo to finish? Thanks much
I wish I could do my grandmother's house like this. I know she's ashamed of the family looking down from heaven, because we've let her house go to waste. I'm sorry Granny.
I bet she’s happy in heaven and is watching over y’all. Earthly things don’t matter in heaven. sorry for you’re loss
@@emperor___palpatine - Nah fam. She's definitely PISSED at us.

@@emperor___palpatine - That may be true. She's still disappointed in us though. It'll be 6 years in November that she's been gone. I need to make everything right.
No, if shes in heaven, she is not upset at all. She loves you and is happy for you. There is joy and no sadness. Be glad and dont think shes upset at a house.
People are haters.. blah neighbors blah that. Wellp. YOU did it. Congrats mate. Well done
The original house had character but was too small unfortunately. The time lapse was fun.
And that character was Joffrey from Game of Thrones. "It had character" lmao
It was literally just a square box. Donald like character. Simple. Non existent.
It had more character when it was torn down.
The new one is ugly as hell
TF is character ? It was a coop.
This is in LaSalle Ontario, Canada on Sprucewood Avenue!! I go by this house all the time!
My grandparents plan on doing something like this. The builder (which my grandpa actually works for) bought property to build on, but what’s already there needs to go first
I like how they put the drainage in for the gutters before the back fill. Never seen that.
She was cute and y’all still managed to give her a glow up
Amazing how it went from a small 1 story to a amazing 2 story house
It's a beautiful house. Inspiration for the rest of the neighborhood of what can be.
the neighbors have to be mad
im sure they’re happy now having that nice of a home there
@@ZTheRuler or jealous
they are both the same distance from the lot line they dont have much to complain about
Their property value probably was raised so they don’t have much to complain about
I thought the same thing
Everywhere they would build like that ... Quickly, clearly and accurately. Perfectly!
Wonderful home you built. Special, as it was built with family. Take care. 😀
I'm from the UK and have only lived in houses made from brick, so to see an entire house made of wood is a little scary to me. I'd be worried it would all fall down on me. It's amazing to know that walls could easily be cut down if they ever wanted to open up the space. Such a beautiful home and such a great watch.
Thanks Kathie! All of the homes are built this way around here. If done properly, they are built to last. There are many 100 year + homes near here. And it certainly does make renovations easier!
Building Code in the US stipulates that wooden homes are built to a safety factor of 8. Wood houses will take an incredible amount of abuse before they fall down.
Wooden houses are incredibly strong if built properly. In this video you can really tell how strong the winds get before the house fails ruclips.net/video/lAPnbzHvIKs/видео.html
what a fantastic job , you guys really know how to make a lovely home , hope you have many more happy years there
Very cool to watch. It was cool seeing the seasons change as well. Nice new house!!
Full basement below the front deck = cold room; must be in Canada! Great build.
Yessir! Southern Ontario.
Or a root cellar!
Hive to Home It must cost a lot to heat up a house with so little insulation. Up here in northern sweden we dont build new houses with walls thinner than like 50 cm 😂
I've done many demos like this. They are fun to do because you don't have to worry about breaking anything. I used to find the hot water tank and lay it on the ground. It would still be full so I would pick way up in the air and squeeze it between the bucket and the thumb. The water would jet out both sides of the tank. Little pleasures. Lol.
It was a lot of fun to watch!
Glad you included the demolishing
What a beautiful Grand house it turned out to be!!! I would have gone with a more substantial Stove myself. Still an awesome home for sure!!!
This video was crazy good, I like the time lapse, going from old to new, just great
Thanks Chuck
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
A beautiful new home. I expect in time the neighbouring homes will also be developed.
Metal sheets for roofing seems sooooo much easier than individual shingles. Now we just need a more efficient solution or replacement for drywall and construction will be so much easier.
Definitely! And last a lot longer than asphalt shingles! The metal roof has a 40 year warranty!
Truly fascinating to watch and those guys work so fast!
heeheehee
W O W everything looks amazing
Amazing!!
love a good time lapse!
So beautiful, love watching when they rebuild and restore old homes.
This was very interesting to watch. I have been watching the Extreme Makeover Home Edition show, and I know that they can not demo a house and rebuild it in >7 days. Your video helped me by seeing that it was 3 weeks from the time the foundation was poured until the framing was started.
It probably could have been quicker but we had many delays due to weather.
3:00 I can't believe they had a crane lift the trusses up, lol. Our framing subs used to do that manually, in the winter in 30 mph winds no less.
The crane was totally worth it. Had all trusses installed and reinforced with blocking in about 6 hours. Plus, most of those trusses were pretty darn big at 30ft wide!
I like the new one it looks so good
I love this ❤
One of the best builds I've seen 👍
Thanks!

Great job. They make a good team.

That’s really beautiful
American construction is so different from South African construction. It was really interesting to see as an architecture student.
I'm not even an architecture student but from SA as well and holy hell yeah it's very very veeeeery different
W B how so ? I’m from Texas I’m curious how other places build
@@myapologiesmissgurl5069 we build with bricks or concrete walls in general fully. The materials we use are much higher quality in terms of lasting etc but we also luckily don't have as many natural disasters here like tornadoes or earthquakes so it's cheaper to make good houses that last a really long time instead of these kinds of prefab houses or ones that use drywalling with insulation. I will try and find an article that might explain more or less how houses are built here but in the mean time I suggest searching on RUclips for some South African homes in the cities they're really nice
myapologiesmissgurl to add on, our building materials such as brick is much cheaper here so out house are much more resilient against the elements. A tornado would damage the house but not destroy it. We also tend to build differently in different climate zones so across the country there are different styles to cope with the environment. This is unlike Americans who tend to have a more generic home style and just use ac and climate control. That unfortunately isnt so great for the environment
@@shiveerramphal1802 what would you recommend for climate control.
Nice house. Not many people ever get to live in brand new house

Wow great job!!!!! I can't believe how you and your dad did so much of the work yourself building a whole house. Saves so much buying one from these rip off housing developments.
Thanks so much!
Dope!
Molto bello 😍
Im always astonished how American houses are just some wooden walls.
I like the layout
I think this is discussed on every single home construction build based out of the US. Building a home in the US is expensive as fuck just from using wood materials. The cost to build one out of concrete and brick would cause the price to skyrocket. The sad outcome of unchecked corporate greed and capitalism. It's done this way out of necessity for a lower cost.
rocknmalenurse “how dare capitalism make wood cheaper to build with”
rocknmalenurse Building a house is expensive because there is a lot of material and man power needed.
old house had character but the new one definetly seems worth it though
Brilliant video
Love the end result

10 months to build yourself? I cant even finish painting my kitchen cabinets in 10 months. Lol. Beautiful house. You did a great job.

Umm. Can we talk about these beats though. 🔥🔥
For all the yanking and tearing that goes on when the video starts, impressive how steady/straight that last section of front wall remains until the end...

looks too out of place compared to all the neighbors
That's what I think, too. Plus, why such a big house on such a small lot?
Of course it does. They built something new in the midst of very old homes.
The house is beautiful. That's what you do when you build your house, you upgrade and build what you want on YOUR lot.

Oh well. Tell them other houses get on deck or get lost. The new house brings value and the other houses will follow
Beautiful home. We have been living in our home for 4 years now and are looking at this option to tear down our home and rebuild on our property as we love the neighborhood but need a bigger home. Wife is a drafter and interior designer. Any helpful advise?
Are you planning to build yourself?
I'm looking to do the same and need advice as well
Nice video
Looking forward to buying a lot And build a house
Oh and awesome channel

Thank you Noel!
Seems like front porch roof frame is missing some type of horizontal tie or needs hardware to make the gable a rigid frame.
Now I know how to build a house this big for only 7mins. I'd try 6mins though. Dang it, this people are fast!

Which camera did you use? Attached to the light pole or tree? Also include in the description which pole you used inside the house and the cost of demolition, the cost of the new built. Thank you!
We used a Brinno timelapse camera. It was attached to a electrical pole in a weatherproof case on the corner of our property. Inside the house I just screwed it to the wall. The demolition was approximately $8,000 and the cost to build was approximately $165 CAD per square feet. Prices have significantly increased since then though (we built in 2018).
Класс!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍
Aaaaaa... as típicas casas americanas, praticas e rapidas.
Good
Hope this is not tornado alley. Beautiful strong concrete structure in the basement but the rest is al wood.
This is in southern Ontario, Canada. Tornadoes are extremely rare here.
Cool time lapse video! How often did you take pics? Every 10 mins? I just got a brinno tlc200pro and I need to figure what settings are best for our home build that I want to time lapse. Did you take pics more often with interior?
Joanna Robbins I used a couple of different settings at different stages. For example, I used a quicker setting (30sec maybe) for the demolition so that I could capture more detail. For longer stretches of the construction, I used 10min. In hindsight, I wish I would have had 2 cameras. One for outside and one to move around inside to capture more on the interior of the house.
Hive to Home thank you so much for that info, I was planning on doing 10 mins on exterior as well. Interior I’ll do more often since it won’t take as long when shooting room by room. Maybe I will need another camera. Your Video turned out awesome though. Thanks for sharing it.
How sad for the neighbor to the left who now has a ginormous house butting right up against theirs. Probably gets no sunlight and they get to look out their window and stare at siding now. Completely changes the dynamic of their yard. And they had to live next to this mess for months probably.
Nothing positive from your side? No, okay
sweet mint no, not really. They could have built a new house that was a proper size. No one likes a monstrosity going in next door.
That’s a very small window (maybe a 2’x2’?) that begins approximately five feet off the ground and it already holds an air conditioner unit. Not many people can see out of the glass.
@@patriciaann850 Stop hatin. Jealous ass.
Love the house. But why so few cabinets in the kitchen?
That foundation alone can build a 2bedroom house here in Uganda
Now you just need the landscaping.
Yes - always projects to finish!
