Well this will be interesting, watch there be no time travelling of any sorts in AoT and we are all just overthinking it. Anyway enjoy this coherent mess of ideas an some say soothing voice, now I sleep for 4 days, thank you. ps. also let my time travelling diagrams pass please, I crafted them with gorilla glue. pps. expect a lot of reaching. I love you, let's time travel together.
I don't quite get how Zeke could've broken this not fighting will the 145th king left in the Founding Titan. Zeke never had the Founding Titan he couldn't have been influenced by the kings will he was just a radom person with royal blood and a radom titan-shifter i don't quite understand why Ymir would listen to him since he just doesn't have the Founding Titan.
@@Grayson-Winchester Ymir only follow orders from Royal blood so i guess the only way for them to do anything with the power is both of them need to work together. That time when Eren said " Founder Ymir lend me your power" it could happened if Zeke command her "do as the man said" simple as that. If Zeke said Euthanize Eldians Ymir want to but for the order to come effect he need Eren as the container of the power to ask it also so that it take effect in reality world.
@@justdesigns9558 it wouldn't sound right tho in context of the sentence, because it supposed to sound like Ymir is saying it to someone, also it hasn't been 2000 years yet, it will be soon tho, when Eren reaches his time ;)
Holy shit.... Attack on Titan has been about this since the beginning... I totally forgot about Eren's nightmares of the future when he's a kid!! God this series is incredible!
Can you explain me what memories did Eren see when he kissed historia I've read the manga but couldn't get it how did he see the future didn't he see the past?
@@parthpant2282 he saw the past. Just prior to his mother being eaten. He saw Grisha begging and pleading with the founding Titan to save everyone from the Titans. And he also saw the founder not care about saving everyone and letting them all die. He knew he had to break the first kings will and do it himself. So his plan became to use Zeke to get to the “Paths” and free Ymir.
@@parthpant2282 Eren saw himself within his father's memories. He saw that he was the one who pushed Grisha to kill the Royal family, he saw he was the one who told him to leave Rod Reiss out of it. So when the time came, he knew exactly what to do.
When the 'save Mikasa and armin' line came up in the manga, my understanding was that it was erens thoughts interfering with the memories. But now that we know that memories can actually travel backward in time, Time travel is a thing. It does not matter if they change anything or not. As long as information can travel backward, it is time travel. In general, there are 3 different ways in which time travel could work in fiction (or irl, if it ever becomes possible): 1. Multiple timelines: when the past is altered, it creates a divergent reality. Both realities exist at the same time. Eg: endgame, steins gate, xmen 2. Overriding timeline: The original time line is overwritten with the modified timeline. Eg: back to the future, butterfly effect. (steins gate could also be this case, but due to the events of steins gate 0, it is much more likely case 1) 3. Self consistent timeline: This one is my personal favorite. It's based on the idea that whatever time travel occurs, it so happens in a self consistent manner. If you go back to the past, you have always gone back to the past. And so, you cannot change anything from the past. This type of time travel is the hardest to write for in fiction, but. But if done correctly, it brings into question the role of destiny and the freedom of choice. Eg: predestination, Harry porter. In the video, you say that Cooper sees another version of himself. This would be right if it is case 1. And it might be. But, since Cooper didn't change anything (he has always left the message, himself and his daughter just never realized it), it is heavily implied that it is case 3. Now, to the important question. Which of these mechanisms will AOT use? I think it will use case 3. As I said b4, this is my favorite mechanism, so I might be biased. But think about it. Everything we have seen has been self consistent. Furthermore, wherever time travel has happened, it has never influenced anything. First, we have Erens dream - which he doesn't remember. Then Kruger talking about Armin and Mikasa. I don't think Grisha ever remembered it (since we have never seen any evidence that he has, and we know the memory just b4 becoming shifter is generally forgotten). And at last, in the latest chapter, we have Grisha seeing Zeke - whi h he thought was a dream. I believe whatever Eren and Zeke does in tbe past, it won't change anything we have seen. The purpose of history is to educate the present for the sake of the future and this mustnot/cannot be altered. It along with the question of destiny would go well with the themes of AOT. So in conclusion, what I'm saying is that I don't think the past will be altered in any way or that there will be some kind of loop. Instead, the past will be used as a tool to make better decisions in the future.
I agree with you on nothing changes in the past, it's destiny happen that way and what this brothers about to do next will deside the future either freedom or doom in sense of getting back Eldians human rights.
@Fernandez Gustavo Most people say it's because path but i think Isiyama can pull this if " to you 2000yrs from now" is isn't Eren words. But if it's from Eren himself then it's just as you say.
Interesting how this turned out actually. Turns out when Eren was witnessing Grisha faulter in his will to kill the Reiss family within the memory viewing, he was telling Grisha (who couldn't hear him because they are basically watching a memory.) to kill them and steal the founding titan power. Even though Grisha couldn't hear Eren saying it, he was actually still able to recieve that message from the future. He does this because the very act of Eren viewing Grisha in the memory and talking to him actually became one of erens memories, so of course that memory could be sent back to the past to Grisha because the attack titans ability to share memories across time to the past and future attack titans. So when we see Grisha struggling to kill the Reiss family, he receives the memory of eren watching him and encouraging him to do it.
@@Appreciation-Community "Grisha was influenced by a memory from Eren"...I could take that. But what about Dina, was she also influenced by a memory?? Not a chance!! It was Eren himself manipulating her actions. If he could do that, then it's possible that he also was conversing and manipulating Grisha himself...not through a memory but actively.
It's not time travel but more fated situations. The Attack Titan seems to be special in the regards that it's always fought for freedom from whatever era it was found in. Which suggests that the inheritors were influenced not by their predecessor's memories but rather their future inheritors and I believe that Eren is the last inheritor of the Attack Titan. So all his predecessors were influenced by his memories and adopted his strong sense of freedom. You could almost say that the Attack Titan was destined to free Ymir. The paths itself allow you to transcend time so the only aspects of ”time travel” are through Eren’s interactions with Grisha and Grisha’s interactions with Zeke.
Bro, my theory is that.... Who will replace Ymir? of course another Ymir. And that Ymir is Historia's baby (named after Ymir the Jaws titan that she loved). I'm sure that later on, Isayama will reveal that Ymir's father is Eren. I also think that Ymir keeps repeating the loop because she wants to see her father (Eren) every 2000 years. Since she didn't have a chance to see him because, one must be consumed in order to gain its titan powers. Also I have a theory that, the "Devil" who gave Ymir the titan power is Eren (her father). After Eren ate all the titan shifters, he fed himself to baby Ymir, and that's also the reason why Ymir is a child trapped in the paths because she died early due to titan curse. Ymir then possess the power of all titan and a royal blood (since her mother is Historia) to protect the Eldian race. After the death of Ymir, the titan powers will scatter along all the newborn Eldians. And the Founding titan ability will be inherited bya baby in the Marley continent named Karl Fritz and soon will be a king then command majority of the Eldians to migrate in a small island called Paradis.. The loop continues...
Future Eren: Save Armin, Mikasa and everyone else Eren's path until now can't be changed and only leads to destruction Eren: I need to be the monster I made, I can't change my fate only follow it to save them
Eren: Breaks the loop by being the one who will destroy the world and is stopped, the paths are destroyed by the one who will end the war and inherits the founding titan from Eren Grisha: You are free
Considering Eren Kruger knew of armin and mikasa somehow, And obviously the most recent event in the manga, It only makes sense that time is somehow involved and also zeke more or less stating that history will keep on repeating it self, A mild hint? i think not. Solid stuff Dres, Keep it up dude
Is time involved? Possibly but I dont think it's to the extent people are thinking. Also history repeating itself is probably moreso referring to how people dont learn from their mistakes and do the same thing over and over. For example, youd think humans would learn that violence isnt the answer to every problem and yet here we are committing to wars.
@@dren5810 Indeed, The phrase it self i used in the context of learning from your mistakes in a general context, But isayama is not a stranger to foreshadowing or leaving hints throughout the story it self, So i do belive this is more in relation to their current position in the story, But who knows.
what if mikasa and armin somehow enter the paths realm and they go into eren krugers memories, which then explains why he knew about them in the first place
@@ZaxorVonSkyler Historia rejected eating Eren because she knew the founder titan would take away her will and make her mind subservient to Karl Fritz' vow like it did with Frieda. It's a different situation altogether.
Oh my God!😱 The title of the first episode To you 2000 years from now Finally makes sense now Mind-blown😶 Also love your videos Man been waiting for a while for this one to come out keep up the good work👏👍
Just thinking about how basic attack on titan was back in 2014 when I first watched it to the multiple layers of information and even a pocket world for ymir to make the titans is just mind blowing I just thought the series would be basic but now it's leading up to something bigger then I could have possibly thought imaginable I love this world with everything I have and it's going to be sad to eventually read the last chapter but it will be a chapter I will be okay to read I know for sure
For anyone who wants to see the mysterious two figures (and them possibly being Zeke and Eren) look at the final panel in chapter 12. Near the right, in the bottom window of a building you can see the figures of two people.
Remember back in 2014 when we all thought that Eren's father was the reason why there are titans (like an experiment or lab thingy especially because of the injection scene with eren) and that we thought he was the beast titan, memoriessss
I like your Theory and it‘s Thoughtful as always man Keep it up! Remember when the Owl suddenly mentioned the Name of Armin and Mikasa in the end of Season 3? What if the ‚Time Travel‘ phenomena is just the Paths of the Nine Founder Titans being Connected by Memories. Grisha is probably experiencing something familiar, bc he still inherited the Attack Titan at that Time. So maybe he also had a glimpse to the Future like the Owl did, i mean they‘re basically still surfing down his Memory lane. Lol
This channel should have a lot more subs! I almost never comment on RUclips but thought its important for you to know. Keep up the good work. Great analysis!
love the video.the quality is as always on point! i've had a hunche that attack on titan involves time traveling since the first episode"to you 2000 years" followed by eren dream that he says"it felt like a long dream" also in the manga when he says to mikasa"you have a tall hair now?" which after watching season 3 we know that dream that felt really long are actually memories. i was confused at first when i watched the first episode and then the next 2 seasons than nothing related to time travel happened nor an explanation of the first episode and chapter but as the story progress i think it's getting clearer i have high hopes for attack on titan ending
You just put into words exactly what I was thinking. We are seeing the Main AOT timeline where they all "win", I think we may even see that others have made sacrifices to ensure this timeline is successful. This would also be good for the future of the brand, alternate universe AoT RPG Video game! First timeline we saw? "What are you talking about Armin? It's not like I want to be a scout... *eye's widen*"
hoping timelines isn't just not necessary, it totally falls apart. Without Eren's memories going backwards, Grisha wouldn't have been selected by kruger, grisha wouldnt eat the founder, Eren wouldn't inherit it, and he wouldn't be able to time travel. It has to be a singular self fulfilling timeline. It's the same in intersellar. He tries the change the past but in doing so he ends up maintaining the status quo, because the influenced invents are exactly what brought him there.
i love the video, but I think that when Coop (Matthew McConaughey) is in the realm beyond time, he isn't interacting with a different timeline of himself, but he is interacting with himself in the past, so Coop has essentially already been there talking to Murph and Coop at the beginning of the movie before he left.
An interesting thought: Because Ymir looks a lot like Historia could be that Yamir is actually Historia's unborn child. Named after lover of Historia and eren wants to free her.
I think AOT base from norse mythology but now it's the combination of norse and bible because path memories time travel kinda work like the dream of the prophet. It's either happened already or going to happen just the dreamer or prophet i could say see the actual reality happening though dream and in AOT its through dream in sense of others memories.
@@sergeantmajor_gross Sending memories and messages are pretty much the same. Going back physically is different in the sense that there will be 2 of you at the same time. But all three are time travel.
I feel like if there is time travel in AoT, then it's one of 2 things. 1) It could be like Harry Potter's time travel in book 3, which is 1 timeline. In summary, Harry and Hermione went back in time a few hours to save a Hippogryph from execution and to see if Harry's father is who saved them from the Dementors. These events were already witnessed by them earlier that day from their original PoV. Originally, they thought that they heard the Hippogryph die, but after they went and stole it before the execution, it turns out the executioner just cut a pumpkin in half out of anger. Then when they went to see who saved them from the dementors, it turns out that it was the Harry that time traveled who saved the Harry in the past. None of the events that happened in the past were necessarily changed, but the future versions of the characters did have an effect on what happened in the past. 2) the other theory of mine is that it is still a singular timeline, but when users "go back in time" (ie The Jaeger bros) they can be seen by other Titan shifters or influential Eldians. A bit like the other theory I described, I believe that future people can have influence on past events, while not actually changing the timeline. All in all, both of my explanations are, for all intents and purposes, the same. The future influences the past in a way that already happened. I feel like a scene we will get soon is either when Grisha tell Eren he must do this to save Mikasa, Armin, and all the others, or when Kruger tells that to Grisha. I think we may see Zeke get turned by something Eren shows him, and Zeke may say this line to Eren, as well as influencing Kruger and Grisha to say the same thing. But hey, that's just my opinion of theoretical physics.
I thought about that theory too after reading the chapter and I honestly think that this could possibly be real. Btw great job with including Interstellar, was a nice and fitting reference xD
And to think the beginning was just a edgy kid screaming while duo wielding Boxcutter and flying with gas strapped on to their back at giant naked human males without reproductive parts
All Eldians are connect with the path right ? This connection might be stronger with who have share the same titan. So since, Eren is in the path, he might be able to interfere with the memories of those who had his titan. That’s why every memories that we see in chapter 120 are from those who had Eren’s titans (Griesha, Eren Kruger and Frieda). Maybe we also gonna know more about Teiber’s family
I feel like Zeke bypassed the kings war renouncing ideals only because he is not the actual holder of the founding titan. Since Eren is the one that has the combat founding and war hammer.
A bit convoluted, I think that everything is playing out according to sequence, time travel and flashbacks pre-included, they didn't just manipulating an alternate timeline, they've already manipulated their own timeline, and now they're going to battle each other in a alternate space void of time
Maybe all the titans are all Ymir’s conscious and when they are all together she’ll be able to think again and start talking. Just a thought. I get this feeling that the rumbling is the effects of this possible time travel, I don’t know but we’ll have to wait and see.
Quick idea. Since it's said that Ymir died after 13 years of receiving her powers, how old would she actually be? Within the timeless place she seems to not age at all since we last saw her. Meaning she received her powers at birth and died at the age of 13? Or can't she not age past her death? She supposedly had daughters, but if she's 13 years of age, how's that so? Older siblings?
A lot of really interesting parallels ^^ with my experience, consciousness and time-travel(more like traversing space/time fluidly) this is relatively accurate with the structure of the universe. We are experience a certain "reality"(consciousness experiencing itself in many different ways) and that is the current "timeline" we experience. There are infinite other versions of ourself, however there is one true consciousness you are, all of it, but seeing from this one POV. This way we can learn and experience things the way we desire as souls. Attack on Titan does a great job exploring the themes of racism, hatred, anger, grief, etc. and ties it into a very relatable bow-wrapped gift. Take zeke for example, he's angry his parents forced him into the warrior situation, so much so that it leads into despair and a deep guilt conflicting within. He feels as if he's a savior when in truth he is being saved by experiencing his past in a new and profound way. We can all look at our painful memories when we grow up and are ready to move on(zeke with the beard) and experience a catharsis(a legit release of energy from our bodies). I love this!! Keep up the awesome work brother 🔥🌈💖
I didn't interpret what you said at 5:55 that way. It was established previously that Titan shifters can access the memories of the future. The Marley talk about it, and Eren Kruger mentions memories Eren had. So, what I perceived as actually occuring is Zeke viewing Grisha's memories through Eren, and Grisha viewing what would become Eren's memories(showing his brother his memories) through Eren. It's a crossflow that exists between shifters of the same variety. So Grisha sees Zeke there in that moment, despite Zeke and Eren not physically being present. Notice how he states he can see Zeke and himself, but makes no mention of his now adult son Eren. In this sense, I don't think they can manipulate time. If Eren was able to appear to Carla or young Mikasa or Zeke, I would believe it.
Yes (why don't other people get it) Only one correction, Titan shifters can only access memories of the previous users. Only Attack titan has the special power of accessing memories of their successors. (Future)
Just because you suggested, before this video was released, to watch Interstellar to understand some of the theories you will discuss, I watched Interstellar for the first time. Why was I so late to watch it? I am so angry at myself. It is such a masterpiece and it left a pain in my heart just like aot. I also suggest the Netflix series "Dark". That also left a huge scar in my heart and I cannot forget about it. However, about the different timeline theory and that Eren would eventually fix everyrhing through different timelines is a bit of an easy plot writing. At least for me. I believe Isayama is very unique in terms of his plotting and I think that fixing things by trying hard through different timelines is a bit of a cliché trope. I believe Isayama will do something unique with this whole memory and time travel thing. But I loved your video. Overall, I love all of your videos and ideas. Please keep up the good work! Love you.
I don’t think they are influencing memories. I think the memory they accessed where Grisha saw an apparition of Zeke is what had always happened. That everything was predetermined and that they would always arrive to this destination. That these memories of other shifters don’t just work backward but also forward. This is supported by Eren’s visions in chapter 1 that predate him having any Titan powers, Kruger mentioning Mikasa and Armin without being able to know who they are, Grisha seeing the ghost of Zeke, baby Eren reaching out to Zeke and Eren. I don’t think this is multiple timelines converging or different events that stray from a central timeline. But rather a single timeline that functions more as a spiral than a string. That everything has already happened and will continue to happen. It was predetermined by Ymir or even a higher power to pan out like this.
This got me think and here’s some extra spicy thoughts for y’all: There is a theory that Eren’s Titan form is starting to resemble the original Titan (the one that gave Ymir her powers). And since he currently has the most titans (attack, founder, war hammer, ect.) I think that the more titans he eats the more he becomes like the original Titan, and he will become it once he eats all 9 titans. Once he eats all 9, I think that his 13 years would almost be up and in a last ditch effort to try to fix the timeline and stop it from looping (or maybe causing the loop because the future was so awful) he would go back in time 2000 years to where it all began and give the Titan power to Ymir (by letting her eat him). *I think the fact that Ymir’s Daughters were told to eat her to gain her power, sort of proves that she got her powers from eating another titan and not an apple (as was depicted), because how else would anyone know that’s how you pass on Titan powers. Plus the tree they were depicted near could be the pathways. Also I think the only way to stop the time loop is for Armin to eat Eren. This is because Armin is (1) the smartest boi and (2) in the best position to counter Eren (he is the colossal titan and once he eats Eren, would be most likely to eat Annie cuz she might be like *yea I trust u to be my successor and my 13 years are already gone soon* ~or~ Eren kills Annie and that causes Armin’s turn against Eren, but that’s debatable. Honestly it’s such a sad twist because they are practically brothers that I think the author would love to see us cry over that. *Edit:* I also think it would be Armin because he (I think) narrates ep one Lastly (congrats if u read this far) I think this makes a lot of sense, because if Eren was the one that gave Ymir the powers, Then he would probably feel immense guilt over causing her to be enslaved and suffer for 2000 year thus causing him to have this constant fight for freedom. *Edit:* Yoooo also paradoxes are known to cause massive issues (deaths and stuff *the hurricane in Life is Strange for example*) and Eren going back in time to give Ymir Titan powers is a HUGE NONO FOR TIME TRAVEL and was followed but massive destruction from titans and eventually the rumble rumble time
Hi, I am a new subcriber. First of all I wanted to tell you how interesting and well polished your videos are. I expecially love the mesmerising visuals. Talking about the visuals, where do you find these fantastic gifs? I’d kill to have a couple of those as a screensaver. Greetings XD
Do you think that when grisha hugged Zeke he had Access to the attack titans ability seeing as he made still had that titan power and had contact with royal blood?
I was just about to go to bed, stumbles upon this video and I watch 10 minutes of it, and I haven't even seen Attack on Titan *at all*, I've only heard about it, and even then it's not much, this time travelling and timelines was not something I would've expected from it at all. Good video though, and I like how you explained in detail how this is just your thoughts and that you want people to correct you if they feel you've misread something.
Dont know if you will see this. But I had a question. I don't really understand why cant eren and zeke manipulate a single timeline (their own timeline) without having to create a new timeline. Why cant they just change what would happen in their own timeline. That would mean that every change they wanted to do while inside the coordinate would happen in a second so that when they come out of the coordinate, present eren and zeke will be living the timeline they manipulated.
Theres a theory going around that ymir is planning to escape from being a slave. It's a pretty solid theory, I don't remember much about it but it was made before chapter 120 and it stated that ymir was a slave. you can find on the snk subreddit
This is wrong. Attack on titan doesn’t work with different timelines. It’s just one self consistent timeline. All the actions done through time travel are already and have always been recorded in history. It’s the same time travel method as the one used in netflix’s Dark and Harry Potter prisoner of azkaban. The past, present and future are connected to each other. When something is happening in the present, things are happening in the future at the same time. That’s why the future can affect the past, but it can never change it, since everything you do when you travel back in time had already happened at that time when you still hadn’t used time travel. When we saw Grisha kill the Reiss family in the anime for the first time. At that moment, Grisha was already seeing future Eren and Zeke. Everything is connected. That means that there is no free will, since Eren does everything he does leading up to the moment where he meets with Zeke at the coordinate and travels back in time. Since past, present and future all happen at the same time and can therefore affect one another, if future Eren exists and is the reason why young eren gains the founding titan, then that means that young Eren is predestined to do everything he does until he reaches the point where he becomes future Eren and time travels. He has no free will, which kind of contradicts Eren’s freedom philosophy. That’s why it’s beautiful. If attack on titan worked with different timelines just like in steins gate, then the future eren that is influencing another eren’s timeline would have got the founding titan by unknown means. Different timelines means that you can actually change the past, whereas in self consistent time (Dark, Harry potter) you can affect the past but you can’t change it. If attack on titan worked with different timelines, it would mean that future Eren needs to go back in time and create another timeline to let that timeline’s eren get the founding titan. That means that the Eren that gains the founding titan thanks to future Eren’s intervention isn’ and will never become that same Future Eren. That means that we don’t know how future Eren got the founding titan. The only solution would be for another future eren from another timeline to manipulate things in future Eren’s timeline so that he gains the founding titan. But we would have the same question about that other future Eren. It’s so messy. Attack on titan doesn’t work with different timelines
sry i know im late but i have a question... how does the first eren or whatever eren get the founding titan without the future eren? there must be a first one to travel back in time to tell grisha what to do but how did that first time he got the founding? I hope you understan what im saying. pls explain :(
@@vaas_3735 I understand. You’re asking how does eren even get the founding titan in the first place. Future eren is the reason why young eren gets the founding titan, and once he gets the founding titan, he can grow up to be the very reason he gets it in the past. It sounds paradoxical but it actually isn’t. When Grisha went to the chapel while young eren was watching her mother die, Future eren was influencing Grisha. There’s no such thing as future, past or free will. While Grisha is killing the reiss family, the rumbling is taking place a few years later, but at the same time. Just like two things happen at the same time but in different places, two things can happen “at the same time” but in different times. And no matter what young eren does, he will ALWAYS grow up to be the same eren that ended up influencing Grisha, because it was thanks to that that Eren was able to get the founding titan in the first place. So there’s no free will, which contradicts eren’s philosophy of freedom. If you’ve watched the netflix show “Dark”, you’ll understand it better
@@emiliorodriguez8104 for some reason yt send me notification only now and i dont know if you are gonna see this but thank you so much for explaining it really helped me i understand it now finaly thank you
Multiple timeline and split timeline theory is cool and pretty compelling, but I believe there is a difference from sending a person back in time and sending information back in time. Some time travel and fortune telling get away with this by using information, I think Stiens Gate did the same. The reason this is a bit tricky is that Grisha hugged future Zeke, but that could be seen more as ghostly apparitions. what also holds things in suspense is that with Erens future sight giving ability gives the idea that someone is plotting and changing events to some destined outcome. However I prefer to see it as simply "Synchronicity" or peoples will/belief for a certain outcome. Like Eren convincing Grisha to take the founding titan, would be more like Grisha simply thinking of his son and his future to convince himself to "finish what he started."
Also with the rumbling. Eren would look ridiculous for starting the rumbling if "the rest of the world" wasn't plotting to attack the island at that moment and vica versa
PATHS is so broken yet so magnificent as an end-all be-all answer to everything in AoT right now. Regarding this theory, could it be possible that all timelines created could be looped, not unless this ONE THING happens that Ymir hopes for Eren to do at this point in time to finally "break free from the bird cage" ? And also, I'm still not letting go of that Mikasa panel saying "See you later, Eren." from Chapter 1. All theory-crafting aside, can I just put this out there: how is this story still labeled as SHOUNEN, like SERIOUSLY?! An argument can be made that this is probably peak SEINEN work right here.
I think with the given information, it's fair to consider that all the events in the past have already happened. You can call it a paradox, but it can also be thought of as a perfectly closed loop. This future Eren only exists because of what Grisha did. The fact that Grisha kills the entire Reiss family happens due to future Eren's influence. This not a change in their current or any alternate timeline, but rather that these events exist simultaneously in the single timeline of Attack on Titan.
The only thing that i don't like about the concept of time travel is what if there is already another Eren and Zeke time travelling whilst the ones we see are time travelling? What if what we are seeing has already happened and is like a loop within a loop? My brain hurts now.
All the previous founding Titan holders were waiting for Eren to be born. They all knew this was coming. That’s why Uri told Kenny that’s the soon was soon going to rumble, since Eren was a few years away from being born
I think the best way to know what's going on with attack on titan is to watch the movie Arrival. The paths use is essentially the same flow of time amy Adam's character unlocks. Shes able to see what happens in the future. But there's no actual time travel. That would probably best explain the use of paths and how eren was able to go into past memories and how past characters were able to know the names of the future ones. Having royal blood and the founder power allows you to travel the path much more easier.
Real important question I have is where Annie's cell is located. Because if it's underground in the same place everyone is fighting, then we have all the 9 together right now(Armin, Reiner, Pieck, Falco, Zeke, Annie, and Eren has 3). Also, I feel a lot of the time travel theories could be sorted out with even 2 or 3 lines of dialogue in the coming chapters. They could be parallel timelines (which I think, for the story, is the least likely), it could be a timeline rewriting itself (either in a fashion similar to your theory, or one that is purely predestination based). EDIT: A big, big detail would be answering HOW DOES CHILD EREN HAVE THAT DREAM IN CHAPTER 1 WITHOUT HAVING THE ATTACK TITAN YET?! It's a detail they left in the anime, along with Mikasa's headaches, so I really feel that's still relevant somehow. I feel it would be a copout if it were something like "the memories got passed on through Grisha when he concieved Eren." ...I say that, but isn't that how the Ackermans' version of the Paths thing work? Also we have the situation of a Titan shifter conceiving a child, is that a special case? I don't want the ending to drag or anything, but I'd prefer we get most of these questions addressed or given some alternate explanation by the end of this.
The fact that becoming a titan that shortens your lifespan for 13 years upon inherantance is a good bargain, mainly due to the fact that you are immortal in Paths and can rewatch 2000 years of history without the need to worry about dying.
The idea of Eren replacing Ymir reminds me of one of the endings in the last Mortal Kombat ( I haven't played the game but saw a cinematic where this happened) , a warrior defeated Cronica the guardian of time and then he becomes the guardian of time , Cronica used her power for only self benefit but this guy instead makes his duty to not allow anyone to change time ever again.
Seems like the Titan power itself is an entity that is growing and learning through its experience of being passed from generation to generation. Ymir is the first titan to our knowledge which means all of these time traveling memories is sort of a new muscle that the titan entity is moving for the first time. This could also fit into one timeline under the assumption that time is not linear (and it is not). Past, present and future could be connected and existing at the same time, and this place is where they meet. Conventional thoughts of time evaporate when the observer is eternal. Perhaps Eren knows this and is coolheaded because he has reached a point where he can directly influence Zeke and even though Zeke can do it too, Eren's will and belief in himself is stronger, and so less susceptible to manipulation.
These three characters are great embodiments of past present and future conditions too. Ymir though strong is naive and easily manipulated. Zeke let's the past weigh on his shoulders and he is anxious about the future, very much like most people here existing in the present. Though he suffers from chronic bitch disorder it is clear that he has a better grip on reality than Ymir and has progressed the growth of the titan mind. Eren is confident and highly adaptive. How most people would like to operate when under pressure, how people who have not found their confidence envision their ideal future self to be.
Founding titan can access the memories but it is the attack titan that can influence the past or future memories. That's why when Zeke was surprised by grisha's awareness him being there and eren was calm and composed because he knows the abilities of attack titan. To make the point clear when eren Kruger told grisha about mikasa and Armin, it was actually eren influencing the past memory as attack titan when he got access to those memories. Without royal blood it is not possible to access actual powers of any one of the nine titans. Right now Zeke and eren are in touch and eren can use full potential of his attack titan powers.
first of, how do you know that the stories we ve heard about ymir are true. Going by what eren kruger said we cud assume that we ve not got ymir's true story yet.
it wasnt that much time travel dr.grisha just saw erens memories from the moment when they were watching his thats why he though it was just dream. he was asleep and saw from erens prespective older version of zeke in the basement and then he wake up to see nothing in the room and thats why he was so confused
Well this will be interesting, watch there be no time travelling of any sorts in AoT and we are all just overthinking it. Anyway enjoy this coherent mess of ideas an some say soothing voice, now I sleep for 4 days, thank you.

I love you, let's time travel together.
Let's Interstellar this shit!
Still this is a interesting theory!

Holy shit.... Attack on Titan has been about this since the beginning... I totally forgot about Eren's nightmares of the future when he's a kid!! God this series is incredible!
They’re not traveling through time. They’re revisiting memories. And the Attack Titan’s hidden ability is to see into the future memories.
Yeah man, why is everyone confused on this!
Can you explain me what memories did Eren see when he kissed historia
I've read the manga but couldn't get it how did he see the future didn't he see the past?
@@parthpant2282 he saw the past. Just prior to his mother being eaten. He saw Grisha begging and pleading with the founding Titan to save everyone from the Titans. And he also saw the founder not care about saving everyone and letting them all die. He knew he had to break the first kings will and do it himself. So his plan became to use Zeke to get to the “Paths” and free Ymir.
@@parthpant2282 Eren saw the future
@@parthpant2282 Eren saw himself within his father's memories. He saw that he was the one who pushed Grisha to kill the Royal family, he saw he was the one who told him to leave Rod Reiss out of it. So when the time came, he knew exactly what to do.
So now Attack on Titan has become Attack on Steins Gate
It will all be daijoubu
It is the choice of Ymir's Gate!
I want to see a crossover..
I'm down for that. XD
Okabe mess with the timeline SO MUCH, his anime becomes AOT. Thats when you know, you f*cked up
When the 'save Mikasa and armin' line came up in the manga, my understanding was that it was erens thoughts interfering with the memories. But now that we know that memories can actually travel backward in time, Time travel is a thing. It does not matter if they change anything or not. As long as information can travel backward, it is time travel.
In general, there are 3 different ways in which time travel could work in fiction (or irl, if it ever becomes possible):
1. Multiple timelines: when the past is altered, it creates a divergent reality. Both realities exist at the same time. Eg: endgame, steins gate, xmen
2. Overriding timeline: The original time line is overwritten with the modified timeline. Eg: back to the future, butterfly effect. (steins gate could also be this case, but due to the events of steins gate 0, it is much more likely case 1)
Welp.. now it’s revealed that Eren influenced and manipulated his father since way back.
If this theory comes true, I would be mind-blown. I wouldn't even know what to say.

Kruger: If you want to protect Mikasa and Armin...
Grisha: Mikasa, Armin? Who are they?

@@creamofthecrop5868 those theories were better than game of thrones season 8

Remember when Titans were the "only" enemies
Ah! Nostalgia.
An interesting thought:
Because Ymir looks a lot like Historia could be that Yamir is actually Historia's unborn child. Named after lover of Historia and eren wants to free her.
Great vid. Keep up the good work
There won’t be any Time Travel. At best some message will be sent.
Sending messages or even memories to the past IS time travel. Think about steins gate, for example
pukkandan I know Steins Gate but sending a message back in time is different from sending memories to yourself or traveling.
@@pukkandan The only difference is that on Steins Gate, the timeline can change, but on AoT the timeline may be the same.
I'm Hououin Kyeren, maaad titanist, it's so cooool! sunuvabichhh

Interstellar's my favourite movie of all time, so this video was even more interesting that I already expected!
A bit convoluted, I think that everything is playing out according to sequence, time travel and flashbacks pre-included, they didn't just manipulating an alternate timeline, they've already manipulated their own timeline, and now they're going to battle each other in a alternate space void of time
Great video man
So it's like trunks couldn't save his timeline but he saved other timelines
Brian Y. Camacho she’s stated to have gotten her powers at 16 so she would have been 29 when she died.
Brian Y. Camacho and most women can give birth at 13
@@TheSkyrimps3 3 daughters before that age. Assuming she did get her powers at birth
@@TheSkyrimps3 I don't recall us ever getting her actual age. If so pls quote the chapter u got this from.
She looked about erens age at the beginning of the manga. Which was what? 10?

Yes (why don't other people get it)
Only one correction, Titan shifters can only access memories of the previous users. Only Attack titan has the special power of accessing memories of their successors. (Future)
love this video it's amazing
After this, reading chapter 1 beginning is mind blowing
Love you.
Perfect way to start the day b4 work
I don’t think they are influencing memories.
This got me think and here’s some extra spicy thoughts for y’all:
There is a theory that Eren’s Titan form is starting to resemble the original Titan (the one that gave Ymir her powers).
*Edit:* I also think it would be Armin because he (I think) narrates ep one
Lastly (congrats if u read this far) I think this makes a lot of sense, because if Eren was the one that gave Ymir the powers, Then he would probably feel immense guilt over causing her to be enslaved and suffer for 2000 year thus causing him to have this constant fight for freedom.
*Edit:* Yoooo also paradoxes are known to cause massive issues (deaths and stuff *the hurricane in Life is Strange for example*) and Eren going back in time to give Ymir Titan powers is a HUGE NONO FOR TIME TRAVEL and was followed but massive destruction from titans and eventually the rumble rumble time
It's time loop time ladies and gentlemen :)
Interstellar is so crazy! I mean if you haven’t watched it highly recommend it
Take a shot every time he says “timeline”.
im going to pass out now
Hi, I am a new subcriber. First of all I wanted to tell you how interesting and well polished your videos are. I expecially love the mesmerising visuals.
Talking about the visuals, where do you find these fantastic gifs?
I’d kill to have a couple of those as a screensaver.
Greetings XD
Really liked this video, can't wait till the next chapter
I think my brains just got bigger
Do you think that when grisha hugged Zeke he had Access to the attack titans ability seeing as he made still had that titan power and had contact with royal blood?
I was just about to go to bed, stumbles upon this video and I watch 10 minutes of it, and I haven't even seen Attack on Titan *at all*, I've only heard about it, and even then it's not much, this time travelling and timelines was not something I would've expected from it at all.
Good video though, and I like how you explained in detail how this is just your thoughts and that you want people to correct you if they feel you've misread something.
bro my mind just exploded 8:30 i remember when zeke said it felt like he was there for years....... chills
4:06 and forward is a through explanation of the timelines and time traveling.
@@emiliorodriguez8104 for some reason yt send me notification only now and i dont know if you are gonna see this but thank you so much for explaining it really helped me i understand it now finaly thank you
@@vaas_3735 you’re welcome!!! 🤗
i barely understood anything but u sound smart so pls marry me
Multiple timeline and split timeline theory is cool and pretty compelling, but I believe there is a difference from sending a person back in time and sending information back in time.
I love you thank you.
Try this drinking game.
Take a shot every time Dresrosa says the word "Timeline(s)"
Slow start but boy does it pick up!!
I saw the last chapter and everything seems to match this video theory
He will gather all the Titan powers and make it so they never existed in the first place ; saving everyone.
IF YOU GO AT 18.3 EXACTLY IN EPISODE 2 IN SEASON 1 YOU CAN SPOT FUTURE EREN LOOKING AT PAST EREN IN THE RIGHT LEANING AGAINST THE WALL
Jakob Parsons The concept shown in Arrival was the first idea that came to my mind after reading this chapter.
“F” for the anime only people who clicked
This video is great
Real important question I have is where Annie's cell is located.
A week late man but again, as always, great work!!!
How most people would like to operate when under pressure, how people who have not found their confidence envision their ideal future self to be.
i simply love this video ^^
what panels are the 2 silhouettes in
i know they are there in chapter 12 but what about the other chapters
Founding titan can access the memories but it is the attack titan that can influence the past or future memories. That's why when Zeke was surprised by grisha's awareness him being there and eren was calm and composed because he knows the abilities of attack titan. To make the point clear when eren Kruger told grisha about mikasa and Armin, it was actually eren influencing the past memory as attack titan when he got access to those memories. Without royal blood it is not possible to access actual powers of any one of the nine titans. Right now Zeke and eren are in touch and eren can use full potential of his attack titan powers.
What soundtrack is being played at 14:00
I think comparing this to Dark is just as apropos
The more information comes out of the story the less it makes sense. How is Ymir a slave to royal blood when she is the source of royal blood.
first of, how do you know that the stories we ve heard about ymir are true. Going by what eren kruger said we cud assume that we ve not got ymir's true story yet.
king fritz is the source of the royal blood
it wasnt that much time travel
dr.grisha just saw erens memories from the moment when they were watching his
thats why he though it was just dream. he was asleep and saw from erens prespective older version of zeke in the basement and then he wake up to see nothing in the room and thats why he was so confused
They are just seeing each other memories, why is no one else getting that
