One thing I noticed right away about the Coltrane Pentatonic was that it lays diatonically (from the root) right over the Dorian Mode Pattern and the Melodic Minor Scale.

This is the scale of the ragam called Sivaranjani in Carnatic music aka South Indian classical music. I didn't know that Sivaranjani was this beautiful when it came through sax! Thank you very much for the video!

Thank you for your great lesson, and nice ideas for fragment practicing. These are real gold nuggets for jazz solos.

@jazzduets Is it at all possible if you can explain the C7alt at 0:10? I tried doing some research but it only explains that it's just flat or sharp 5, 9, or sharp 11. I'm just curious as to how this works in theory. Thanks for your time and the education you provide us throughout your videos!

It "works" as these sounds together sound cool. These notes come from the Jazz melodic minor built on the b2 degree of the dominant, which is the "hack" many people use to learn the altered scale.

learning to read music and playing it on guitar would be beneficial for you. Start slowly at first and find which note lies on which fret, you'll eventually be able to read and play straight from the notation.

These Jazz musicians need some ASMR. They are all so up tight and play so fast. If you go off on that map, you got to drink a beer. Jeff Berlin is talking about this thing with no metronome.
