    One of the first recordings of jazz I heard was strangely this from John Coltrane and Duke Ellington. The harmonization of the melody by soprano sax and piano on that original recording is always captivating to me. Great lesson/session!

    I'm getting conflicting note choices on the D minor 6th Pentatonic. Some musicians are saying the notes are D, E, F, A, B, D and some are saying D, F, G, A, B, D. Just wondering on the correct designated notes for this scale...

    • @adammaness
      @adammaness 2 года назад +3

      I learned the minor6 pentatonic as the same as the major pentatonic but with a minor 3rd. In D: d-e-f-a-b

    Wonderful lesson...but I don't understand why a pentatonic scale should be described as starting from the fifth degree of the chord - that seems needlessly complicated and it obscures the relation of the scale to the chord tones. Instead of describing a scale as a "minor pentatonic starting on the fifth degree of the chord", why not just say it's a pentatonic scale with the 1, 2, 4, 5, and b7 degrees of the chord?

    Great I recently spent $70 dollars for the course and the first 30 minute lesson (that I haven't completed yet) on Coltrane is made available to the public. Not sure how to feel about this.

    So you guys say a minor 6 Pentatonic is 1 2 3 5 6? I have always considered a minor Pentatonic to be 1 3 4 5 6. That is what I hear Coltrane and McCoy do more frequently on minor modal tunes.

    •  2 года назад

      You are correct. It should be 1 b3 4 5 6. The 1 2 b3 5 6 is more like a Kumoï scale, or Dorian Pentatonic.

    • @markbra
      @markbra 2 года назад

      The difference is in the name too. Minor pentatonic.... Minor 6 pentatonic.

    is it 'Soo-Lar' or is it Solar? As in, i need new solar panels on my house. Funny how this is the only word people mispronounce in favor of miles accent. Yet, its a scientific word and theres only one correct way to pronounce it.
