  • How to replace the Gen3 Tacoma OEM Tonneau Cover hinge seals.
    PARTS: Order (2ea) of these 64971-04011and (1ea) of 64972-04011 from Toyota. The first two seals are for the 2 hinges between panels 1 & 2 closest to the cab and the single seal is for the double hinge between panels 2 & 3 closest to the tailgate. I found it cheaper to order from Toyota dealers in smaller States including shipping vs. the overpriced dealers here in California.

They told me the seals are unavailable and wanted to sell me a new tonneau cover for $2000. your information on installation plus the part numbers were appreciated. it’s amazing how little the dealerships know.

      Sorry for the delayed response. The RTV suggestion is for the end tips IF needed. Mine seem to be staying down without it just fine. Now that we live in snow country I didn't want to anchor it solid because of the growth and shrinkage of the seal with temperature changes.

    In the case of a 2019 tocoma the back one had 2 pins on each end, suggest you start both ends and work to middle.
    Front pair have 1 pin on each end I got each end started then worked to middle and there were no problems.
    The back one since I started on 1 side and worked accros I needed to do some sugery to get the far end to fit due to the streching as I inserted it.

      @MVMike62  Год назад

      Thanks James for the Update on the 2019 / Later model cover. Pins on each end. If you can get it started in the middle that would make total sense. I guess as you go push back a little so your not stretching the seal making it longer.

      UPDATE: In July we moved from dry as a bone Sunny So. Cal. to WA State. We’ve had 10” of rain in just this past month and the only slight leakage I notice is from the base seal between the cover and the bed rail but only in a few spots. Very little standing water actually enters the bed. We’ll see how snow does in a couple months.

    • @xxtwobitxx
      @xxtwobitxx 2 года назад

      @@MVMike62 also forgot to mention my cover was as faded as yours there in the video but I picked up some car guys plastic restorer online, and it turned it back to black and looking like new. Though I'm not sure how long it will last, I've had it on for about 3 months and seems to be holding up fairly good. If it does fade away I'll probably go with Wipe New trim restorer, I've used it on some older cars and that stuff holds up great

    • @MVMike62
      @MVMike62  2 года назад

      @@xxtwobitxx I too tried some stuff from the Car Guys. It was thick and clear. It looked great afterwards but was gone after a few car washes. Someone else responding here turned me on to Cerakoat Trim Coat. It’s amazing stuff. It’s been on for 6 mos. now and is just starting to look like it needs a recoat. I’m betting the 2nd coat will last longer since the first coat as a base is still there. It didn’t damage my weather seals either.
