It is so much fun watching a course I've played on tv, being played by some of the best in the world. I'm just sitting here like, yep, been in that bunker, yep, been in that bunker, been in that lake. There is the house my cuz hit. Brooks Koepka and I have now been in the same bunker. Granted, he played it a touch better than I did but that is not the point.

The thing that Rory finally realised, and I think is mainly why he now keeps quiet, is that the vast majority of Pros cannot do what he does - only play selected events each year and very rarely does not make the cut. As a member of LIV, Adrian (and his family) now knows exactly what his schedule is for the year, and if he performs it will be the same next year. It is about time the PGA and European Tour both created an elite level competition that is only available for their top 50-60 elite players. 150 elite players playing 3 elite competitions with no cuts would be great for golf. The rest of the Pros are trying to make it to one of those comps - that is the way to go. No other elite sportsmen has to play for 2 days and not get paid - that old school crap system has to go. The only cut should be for the 4 Majors and The Players - those top 150 + qualifiers play for 2 days and only get paid if they make the cut. All other golf events/tournaments should have the players play all days and they all get paid - more for win, least for last. That is modern, fair, equal and IMO the best way to go forward in a professional sport. It is total crap that a Pro player has to prepare for a few days and then play for 2 days, but does not get paid - totally unfair old school crap.

I disagree that Donald made the right decision, Adrian deserved to be picked and I’m convinced that he would have performed as well if not better than all of his other 6 picks. I believe the problem is the current selection system that only allows the top 3 players via DP tour automatic selection. Giving the captain 6 picks and to have the top 3 world ranked players (an unfair and PGA tour bias system) takes away opportunities for genuine European based DP tour players. If win at all costs is our priority then just give the captain 12 picks 🤷 to hell with European based players and the DP tour.

But it’s not to have the best team, the euros have a good ol boy system themselves. Not nearly as bad and damaging as US, but there’s some.
Meronk belonged. I defended luke. There was a case to be made that Meronk is more of a bomber in a set up set up for shorter accurate players.
But I agree despite that factor Meronk would have made the euros better. Just as many Americans in LIv would have made the Americans better. I also think Sergio would have made the euros better on a tight track as it was.
But that’s all nor here nor there for an event killing its integrity playing leverage games.

Meronk comes across as a major case of sour grapes. Giving Åberg the spot in Rome was correct given his massive potential & merit, as was giving Lowry a slot as he has been there & done it in a Major AND the Ryder Cup.
Sadly Meronk is not in that category & would have been on the team if he’d actually qualified

No one blames Meronk or Hatton etc unless you are a complete PGATOUR shrill. The European tour and PGATOUR management have effed this whole situation up so badly its astonishing. The short sightedness of their strategies by instantly going "to war" and refusing to sit down and negotiate at the start of all this 3 or more years ago has lead us to where no tournament has the best field anymore. Yesterday i watched the ladies European tour in Kenya instead of Qatar masters because the DP World event literally had no one.

No brainer for him. Why play PGA tour to maybe be in 9 signature events and also have to play a bunch of lower tier events, when you are guarenteed to play only 12 events which all are elevated events v2.0?
He was probably made an offer before the Ryder Cup and declined to show loyalty to the DPWT, only to be turned away from making the team. So now just thought fuck loyalty and look after his own interest.

Meronk got screwed. Luke picked his "boys". Lowry had been playing poorly all year. He didn't deserve to be there. The European Ryder Cup team won because of the great good fortune that several of the Euro players got hot at the right time, at the same time. Rahm even looked slightly embarrassed by his luck, at times. I don't blame Meronk for going to LIV and basically saying. "You guys don't seem to want me, they do, and I'll be paid handsomely in the bargain ".

How does anyone know how Adrian Meronk would have performed in the Ryder Cup? You can't assume he would have done poorly. The original Ryder Cup spots were earned based on two years of performance with the captains having only two picks. Again, the bias that the UK people have against the Polish people was on display. Remember the Polish pilots and solders were treated like trash during and after WW2 when they were stationed in the UK.

Hate to be harsh, but... What about all the working folks that have to travel all the time? Consultants, service techs, etc. They have to figure out how to raise a family, go from airport to airport, and such. They don't make near the money that professional golfers do and most people who travel for work end up working twelve to fourteen plus hours per day every week of the year. They're happy if they get to play golf on a rare occasion whereas these pros get to do it every day. Sorry if they don't have my sympathy.

Did Adrian Meronk deserve a pick? I am a fan of his and would say yes but like any other team sport when it comes to relying on the selection process, there will always be an element of subjectivity. The cruel answer is don’t leave it up to others, control your destiny. Meronk is not the first to be overlooked and he will not be the last. From memory did this not happen to Matt Wallace? Whether or not he’s made the right decision, it’s entirely up to him but based on his comments I can’t help feeling the decision was more in a fit of pique and he’s undersold himself. Then again, maybe he’s not confident he can maintain the same high standard and decided to cash in. With regard to your point about travelling and the challenges of being a professional golfer, I’m afraid that comes with the territory and if he feels it’s an easier life joining LIV why not?

Meronk is such a baby. First of all how he handled the so called snub... whereas if he or anyone were to go through Meronk's vs Lowry's performances that year (since that was the guy many thought was his snub), it was very close. Meronk got a couple of wins but he was extremely inconsistent and the 8 biggest tournaments he played in that year he missed the cut 6 times, but I digress. And now, he's acting like an even bigger baby... rather a spoiled brat.
I'm no fan of the pga tour establishment, but to blame the pga tour over not being selected by the Ryder cup captain, is ludicrous.
So it's become pretty apparent that Meronk had some others things going against him when it came too not being selected. He comes across a bit like a jackass, so if you're building a team you want a cool group of guys who gel together... It's seems as though Meronk is a little off personality wise.
