Don't even argue. The sport of figure skating ended with the new scoring system where it's just "let's jump as much as we can on ice!!" She was the true GOAT of grace, talent, and athletics. I miss those days.
This must be why I skip ice skating a lot these days. I used to love to watch it. But lately the jumps are the only thing interesting about a lot of these new skating routines. It’s like the choreography is just filler for the jumps. Instead of being a great routine with the great jumps. The choreography just seems like a means to the ends (jumps) now.
True. They need to have more emphasis on the artistic merit, as I’m tired of “who’s going to have the most jumps” versus “who is telling the best story”. It’s quads today, but who will be the next one to do jump with five rotations.
I agree totally. I used to love watching her. She was so graceful and beautiful skating. This last Olympics was horrible with those Russian girls doing nothing but jumps.
Lol, back then being “artistic” meant being American. Now skaters are judged like other sports people, there’s less subjectivity. No American has won since they started using the fair scoring system.
@@vitorhugosantana7053 Actually, the little Russian girls got hurt by the jumps and retired one by one. No one of the Russian girls had chance to be a truly woman style like Michelle Kwan, Peggy, Lu Chen or Yuna Kim.

Michelle Kwan is a gift to skating. Skaters fall. Even the best. Disciplined training, practice and love for the sport gives skaters the poise and self confidence to get up and keep skating.
Someone teach her and the other skaters and she show other people skating and learned from them and she is injured she never got a gold medal in the olympics
She was Yuna's idol. Yuna's program Les Miserables(2013) was influenced by Michelle's. Even though it was almost 20 years ago, she is graceful and bright. She still enjoys skating.
That hurt me, because Michelle knew it (that she was Yuna's idol) and still she said that Adelina's won "fair and square" in Sochi 2014, that really crushed my heart...
goosebumps... there is something so special about her.... something that other skaters lack... we have wonderful young Russians and Japanese girls but Michelle has something so authentic and genuine about her skating... something that is not rehearsed or performed
I miss Michelle Kwan and her beautiful performance. My favorite was her long one leg extension glide around the rink. Michelle Kwan always perform that to perfection. So many of the recent skaters only focus on the number of jumps and difficulties of the jumps, I still love figure skating just really miss the time when skaters focus more on the art and musicality of skate. I guess it is hard to do both.
Using this to remember why I love figure skating after the crazy olympic ladies event. Maybe the simple pleasure of enjoying each program that I love is enough.
She is a amazing. Such a beautiful piece of music to skate to. I saw that it was from Les Mis and I had to see it. Very soothing , peaceful and gentle. She’s got grace and athleticism… and it’s a perfect mix .
Wow! How I used to enjoy ice skating on tv! If I were not at home to watch it, I would program the tv to record it, so I wouldn't miss the wonderful .programs. I haven't watched it in almost ,20 years now since jumping became more important than the wonderful artistry that skaters such as Michelle Kwan demonstrated. How I miss her and others from that era!!!
My grandmother thought Michelle was magical, gracefull and beyond, best that ever lived within skating. She would place all other show choices as secondary, when michelle was displaying her professionalism. Not easy to impress seniors that have seen many skaters, century's over throughout many olympic durations. But Michelle impressed her like no tomowrow. Out of 80-years olympic debuts, Michelle was her top favorite skater.
This version sounds so much better to me. I usually love Lea Salonga but I feel like Salonga's version is too fast and breezy to have any emotional impact.
This skate was from the concluding night "gala" - when all the medalists get to perform an encore, often with a score that included singing (singing was not allowed during competitive short and long programs). It would be nice to see Johnny Weir's gala performance again, too. Thank you Olympic Channel!
Yuna is superb, but Michelle is angelic on top of superb, she is so poised, graceful and mesmerizing. She is different, I mean they all have their differences, but Michelle's is.... Flawless
Yuna is also all those things, the most I see Yuna the more I think she is so unique, and to come from a unknown country in this sport and do what she did is truly remarkable. I respect Michelle, but for me Yuna is the GOAT :)
She has won more national, and world championships than any other figure skater in history, and did it with so much class, joy, and confidence time, and time again. But for some reason she was never able to bring that level of confidence to the Olympics after that fall at the 1998 games. That being said, she remains the most decorated, and talented female figure skater in the history of the sport
