    Torvill and Dean hold the record for the highest scoring single Olympic Ice Dance performance for Bolero. They had twelve 6.0s and six 5.9s. I believe it was also the most watched live Olympic Ice Dance performance. It was mesmerizing and breathtakingly beautiful. The passion, sensuality and chemistry was unsurpassed. To all who think it was slow, look at how Dean's shirt billows. In order to cover the entire Olympic Ice surface, you must move fast. The speed creates the wind that creates the billowing. This is my favorite Olympic performance to music.

      This is the one skating performance of all time that I have never forgotten. The chills, all flow, I knew what I was watching was searing in my brain for all time. They move fast, but never hurry, no rushing, they pay attention to each moment. It is a fully mature performance that still stands out in a sea of mostly highly charged youth skating routines.

    The official Olympic timer for this kinda skating didn’t start until you have both skates on the ice. Starting on the ground allowed them to make the most of the music and their routine without being penalised. It’s so innovative and definitely adds to the whole spectacle, it’s iconic really

    I watched this in 1984 and haven't seen it since. I was in two minds as to whether to view it, thinking that after so many years of 'improvements', they would surely look awkward compared to the best of today's skaters, but no - they set a standard that I don't think will ever be surpassed. I've never seen anyone else move in such perfect harmony with the music and with the ice. Faultless four-part harmony.

      @paulstarstarpaul5700 2 года назад +10

      People really always try to seek something negative. Torvill and Dean themselves were special and innovative at their time. They changed ice dancing forever and are one of the reasons why ice dance looks the way it does today. Also ice dancing is not only an art but also a sport. They need to rate it consistently and transparently. Of course that means that people will try to get the most points. However that isn’t bad because first of all artistic impression still is a big part of ice dancing and secondly these rating also increases the creativity and the innovation because athletes try to find harder moves and try to improve the technique or find new ways to do a certain step.

    I remember seeing this performance as a girl. Never knew who it was until now, but I remember being mesmerized at the time. Somehow, I don’t feel today’s skaters are achieving this kind pure dancing anymore. While they are indeed lovely to behold and spectacular to watch, there is something Torvill and Dean had that has been lost. Maybe I’m just old fashioned.
    The unison is always broken instead carrying them through their moves.

    Seeing this performance from another angle was really fantastic. Again, just pure grace, majesty & pure perfection. I believe these two wonderful & talented Ice Dancers will live on forever in history as the best ever. The pairing of two people from the same County was incredible enough but to find they found in one another the perfect dance partner. What is the chance of that happening? Watching them dance on Ice which would not be easy to do is magical. The timing & movement is perfection. It is like watching two become one person. Thank you to Christopher & Jayne for all the joy you have brought so many people. xoxo

    Я не помню, писала я в комментарии, или нет. Но очень часто смотрю это выступление, супер! Нет слов! Для меня , за всю мою жизнь, а мне не мало лет, это болеро в исполнении этих великолепных фигуристов, Ягудин, с композицией «Зима» и «Гладиатор» и Пахомова и Горшков- вальс Хачатуряна! Это просто не достигаемое!!!👍

      Yes, I remember it playing live in that year. Was this - the Gold Medal performance - their first international presentation of this dance and choreography? Or had they been staging it through the Olympic trials and stages?

    I wasn't even alive for this, but I've watched it so many times since I discovered it... Because first, I love the piece they used, and second, its truly phenomenal. I personally think the only routine that even comes close to this is Virtue/Moir's 2018 short dance, or the Moulin Rouge! dance. Its something you can't tear your eyes away from...

      Да нет. На тех ОИ космос - это русский танец Натальи Бестемьяновой и Андрея Букина. Они были техничнее и артистичнее англичан. А этот танец англичан, на мой взгляд, проигрывает их танцу в 1983 году.
