Let's be honest here. The sheer amount of content this game has put most games nowadays to shame. These days, Ada's campaign would be a separate paid DLC. RE6 is one of the worst games I've come to love, and I'm not being sarcastic. In terms of combat, RE6 is a power fantasy, which is fitting given how experienced and well-trained the characters are. They aren't going to jump in fear at the first sign of a zombie. They'd just shrug and put a bullet through the head. Leon post RE2 barely blinks at the sight of a huge BOW. It's just another day for him at this point. Which is why RE7 having a civilian, and RE2 Remake having a rookie Leon and Claire is prefect for survival horror games. Let's be honest here. RE6 Leon would've curb stomped his way through RE7 with one-liners guzzling out of him.
True The key to a good survival horror is the right amount of disempowerment U can have a special forces officer of S.T.A.R.S. or a rookie cop but they can't be prepared perfectly for what's the come or laxed to the situation as Leon is in 4, why be scared if they're not Capable but not too capable, prepared generally but not for this

In regards to production, few games can beat the scale and polish of Resident Evil 6. It's chock-full of content and is also one of the best looking games of its generation. Damn impressive even today.
There was this one anime I watched where a girl basically said he wants a guy he hates to get stuck in a helicopter owned by Capcom in reference to how many times helicopters crash in Resident Evil games and I think that basically sums up my thoughts on 6
Finding a terrible game that takes itself so seriously AND can be enjoyed tenfold with friends is a great experience. A highlight for me and my group was an indie horror on Steam called Disillusions: Manga Horror. Nearly every aspect of the game was dreadful and I'll spare the details, but the developer updated it with a "competitive multiplayer experience" where the point was to jumpscare everyone else in the room. Soon we devolved into 1AM half-drunk screaming sessions where we would start timing the jumpscares to Africa by Toto or edit the audio files so the "Jumpscare Shock!" sound was a trumpet doot. We each only spend $0.10 on the game. A dime has never held such value since then.

Except the game had no multiplayer mode to justify the lack of quality of the campaigns. Sonic 2006 had three separate campaigns as well (Sonic, Silver, Shadow and a final with all 3) and is the low point of many competing low points in the series, not unlike RE 6. Everyone loves bonus characters in good games. I think a lot of the frustration at the game also came at a lack of trust in Capcom in those years, their westernization of their franchises did not go down well.
I must be fun at parties they would’ve done exactly what Hitman 2016 attempted. They would’ve released the first two missions of the Leon campaign and charged 20$ for each campaign successively. Altogether EA would’ve made this game cost around 200$ total I bet
The majority of maps for The Mercenaries were dlc, that particular mode was seriously lacking in content. There were only 3 maps in the base game. The single player however does have very substantial content.
I've had many great memories playing this game with my brother, even when we knew that this is not was nothing like previous games. If I'm being honest, I want this style of gameplay to return in a spin off rather then a main series title.
I was one of the few people who fucking loved this game when it came out. I picked it up on xbox one last month and had a friend play it with me online. Our playthrough culminated to the greatest thing I've seen in any game when I was trying to snipe a J'avo as Piers when I looked down from the rooftop I was on to see Chris crawling on his back, using only his legs to crawl forward, while screaming "hell yeah" and shooting the J'avo I was aiming at. Also the fucking Mercenaries mode was the best in the series, don't even play with me.

@@0uttaS1TE He hated Kiwami 2 because it was missing a bunch content from original game which in his opinion should never be done when remaking a game(they removed one of the hub areas, multiple sidequests, some minigames like bowling and pool and altered the story so that the characters never go into areas that are missing from the remake). Plus, the remake actually somehow manages to look worse in terms of art direction and area design than the original ps2 game in some sections (multiple parts that in the original had awesome unique battle arenas with rain and stuff that were replaced with generic ones with no rain or anything). Also, the remake used a completely different combat system than the original ps2 game. I think those are completely valid reasons to not like a remake honestly.
Both TheGamingBrit and HyberBitHero are wrong about Resident Evil 6. It's a mess and not an ironically fun one either (although Raycevick makes a better case for it than I've heard from other proponents) But they wouldn't listen to me because I'm one of those people who liked DmC Devil May Cry

A decade ago I used to consider the original Witcher to be my favourite "bad" game because it was unpopular and low budget at the time. Never would have thought it'd become a multimillion selling game series.
Witcher 1 wasn't bad though, it was a genuinely good RPG. the combat sucked, but the multiple rpg systems and pretty good story kinda made up for the shitty block/parry loop
That combat was still better than Witcher 3 combat. Dodgerofling and spamming attack button isnt a good combat. Witcher 1 had strategy and rythm to its combat. @@SicSemperBeats
robert nomok i wouldn’t go that far. Witcher3 was kinda more realistic tbh. The rhythm thing was cool but i think you’re underestimating just how many people absolutely hated it. Plus you wouldn’t wanna parry a 4 ton griffin. The combat makes a lot more sense for fighting the monsters as you would dodge an animal in real life instead of blocking. I agree that W3 combat is unnecessarily fast but i just assumed it was because he was a “Witcher”. The only problem i have with Witcher 3 is that oils and potions aren’t really important and quen is too spammy and one note. They should have had added a little more dimension to the magic.

Im not a fan of RE6 but I think RE5 is one of the best Co-op games of all time. It also has the best mercenaries mode in the series (the mercenaries reunion version in the gold edition, not the vanilla version). Playing the main campaign solo is kind of a slog though. RE4 is one of the few games that deserves to be described as a masterpiece. It's my personal favorite along with the gamecube remake of RE1. It's baffling to see some people trying to discredit it somehow by saying "it wasn't a survival horror game" or "it wasn't a real Resident Evil game" as if that actually affects the game's quality. RE4 doesn't need the RE series (even though it's definitely a Resident Evil game) and it doesn't need to be grouped with other games just to give it a label. RE4 can stand on its own as one of the greatest games ever made.

RE4 is Action Horror though. It can't stand on its own because the progression proves that it's 100% an RE game. It'll be an entirely different game without the RE elements in place.

Not like this though, as only the 3rd CG movie went as of the rails as this narrative (a sequel to RE6). RE6´s story, cutscenes and lore are by far the worst part about it, aside crazy bloat and lack of coherent level design.
Been playing Resident Evil since the very first and I still adore RE6. Hella fun action game. Also, you can pause the game on PC at least. You just have to use the actual pause key on your keyboard.
I’ve played every RE game and RE6 is possibly one of my favorites. It’s so ridiculously fun that I don’t even care how stupid it is. Me and my friend play it every summer and we have an absolute blast every single time.
My problem with RE6 stems from the clunky combat, honestly. The ammo is just scarce enough to encourage the broken melee system, and watching the same wrestling moves on zombies is not fun. Then theres a QTE around every corner. Also, the game is just ugly too. One of these days I'm going to try to stomach it to beat it just to be a completionist but RE6 is just bad in almost every way.

Yep, for more than 1 million people because RE6 remastered still sold about 1.5 million after 6 years of its initial release (which separately sold 7.2 million and the 2nd best selling RE game) even with people whining about it since its unveiling.
I thought it was a full-blown pleasure. Yeah, it's a major departure for the series but I thought it was pretty fun for what it is. Plus, I liked being able to move while aiming and shooting.
I have 70 hours played in RE6. 70. Why? Because the action-focused mechanics made Mercenaries THE best iteration of the game mode to date. And the co-op was fun as hell.
RE6 Mercs is literally one of the best 3D action games ever created, and you get to enjoy it with a friend. Shame there's so few maps and the campaign isn't at the same level.
I thought it was way more repetitive than others with some specific melee attacks being one hit kills forcing you to just do the same neck breaker, Sherry's double kick or Leon's back elbow over and over and over again.
@@bennymountain1 I'd still say its a great game to buy... mostly when its on a massive sale because I have a hard time justifying recommending it at full price. The game is hilariously bad that its actually good. Its taking itself seriously yet its like Metal Gear Solid kind of stupid fun (minus the refinement to the nth degree).
RE6 Mercs was a blast to play, but Raid Mode from Revelations 1+2 is still my jam. I love them so much, I have Rev2 on release because of it, plus I rebought it on my Switch because the missions can be short enough that I can play for maybe an hour and progress some.
Re4 started the trend of more action less horror but still had a good blend. The problem is the generation liked the action parts more than the horror... which is how we ended up with the actionfest called re5.
I agree. The only RE game I like more is the 2 remake. Fantastic game, I love the graphics, lighting, and how the characters become steadily more ragged and filthy as the game progresses.
@@maninredhelm its what you notice actually with the RE Titles, is they have to reinvent themselves all of a sudden to pull off a major win. Each game that comes out that feels like the last has this tendency of being labeled "The bad one" before all of a sudden it changes pace completely. RE7 is nothing like RE original or RE 4, yet is being praised as return to form. Funny enough at the time RE4 was having the same effect, just now with 5 and 6 peoples perspectives changed as the series got more action orientated during the era. This has been a trend for RE, so yeah i say its right to call it an RE game since it does that cycle one again, or rather puts it into light.
I couldn't play games at the time that this came out, I would spend all my down-time on Let's Plays. RE 6 was a joy to watch, story was engaging enough and the moves, the scenery, the outfits... It was all so cool. And having my favourite LPrs collaborate together in the multiplayer? Real fun times.

I see this a lot but it bored me to tears as an action game too. I love the stupid diving mechanic but not a single enemy actually requires you to use it. The whole game I was waiting for some dude to come out with long spinning blade arms forcing me to roll around on the floor, stopping occasionally to pull off headshots. Never happened. Shite game.
@Exotic Razor the fuck dude, the reason why i write those thing because i played all of the RE series except re2 remake that got released just now, from og re1 and including those shooter in WII and RE6 included...... RE 6 is enjoyable as fuck as a game but using "resident evil" name in it makes ppl have expectation on the game in which RE 6 cant deliver at all....... Capcom has done this before in re4 development and instead forcing the prototipe to become its own fully fledge game called devil may cry and look how succes that franchise is..... Could you imagine if re4 not an re4 we know but dmc with re4 name in it instead?
That's what I say about Resident Evil 5. Lots of morons complained abut bunch of things, but it's an outstanding action title (which was incredibly optimized for PC back then unlike other Capcom's previous attempts, something casuals seem to forget). Easily a 8.5/10.
I enjoy Resident Evil 5 more than 6, the gameplay is just that good with friends. 6 Mechanically fights my brains too much and has some real shit design choices to make me throw controllers while RE5 makes me keep coming back again and again. But how you feel about RE6, I feel about 5, more or less.

Reccomendation: In light of slow degradation and death of Total War franchise, you could make a video about downfall of classical RTS genre and it's established franchises and general disappearance of RTS games from front pages.

Btw Starcraft 2 and Age of Empires 2 are still played. SC2 has multiple big tournaments a year and gets well covered and streamed. Age 2 I didn’t realize after picking up the bundle has like 30+ civs now with new campaigns with so many hours, and new AI
@@will.roman-ros I know, just as a lot of people still play CoH, Men of War, C&C and other classics, but how old are these games? Why are there no new installments? Why are there no new franchises? Why are there only just a few RTS games coming out every year, and why do they rarely get any attention at all, much less the front page coverage (for example, Battlefleet Gothic Armada II right now)? RTS used to rule the gaming industry in the days of Warcraft, Starcraft, C&C, TW, CoH, AoE, AoM etc. etc. I thought its downfall would make an amazing topic for Raycevick video. @O Belmont Total War is now doing yearly releases with minor changes and even fewer improvements, built on a 10 year old engine that was designed for Empire / Napoleon type of gameplay, not for sword and shield collisions. It was not even perfect for musket battles in the first place, but they kept using it for a decade now. TW veterans know what im talking about, if you are interested i suggest you watch Reynold Sanity's video 'Sane Critique, Why Rome II Failed'. And he made that video like 5 years ago, things got even worse now. Funny thing is, Rome II got fixed in the meantime and is now enjoyable to a degree, especially with mods and Creative Assembly knows it, which is why they shamelessly still make DLCs for R2 even after 6 years now, that pretty much add nothing of value to the core game. They even made some kind of Desert Kingdoms DLC, where you get black female generals, which caused even more stupid shit and alienated the community, because their PR team handled all the criticism basically the same way EA did on BFV i.e. 'Educate yourself bigots, there were stronk wahmen generals in history.' Essentially, Total War is now a mainstream, yearly franchise with a decade old engine that prevents any real innovation, and a disillusionted veteran community replaced by casual players, who CA caters to more and more with each installment. Upcoming Three Kingdoms will have ARCADE mode for the first time in TW series, i couldnt believe my eyes. Total War lost its identity and is now a shell of its former glory, similiar to CoD in that aspect...
Бајомир I pretty much agree with everything you said, especially the TW 3 Kingdoms stuff as I recently read a book on China, and would’ve loved a purely historical game, no idea what they were thinking, and kind of hope to see it burn. To answer your main questions with my assumptions: I think those great RTS’s hit at a time that graphics, UI, mechanics, and AI came together like no time before. I’d have to go look at what we’d have been playing as far as all the other genres at the time, but clearly you’re right that RTS’s ruled, but the point that I want to make is all the other genres had a clear way of progressing, like graphics and UI mostly, as I feel AI for shooters has barely evolved, same with mechanics. RTS’s we love for the mechanics, and I suppose that’s a lot harder to change bc RTS’s have some 100% expected mechanics. I think honestly that TW is the evolution of the RTS, bc we went from AoE with 75 pop cap to TW with 75 units adding up to maybe 7,000 plus models, and a turn based campaign map. Like hot damn, it also kind of kills Sid Meyers Civilization in a way too. We went from hearing the same sounds and seeing the same animations in all those RTS’s to TW with dynamic battles raging with the sounds of shields and spears splintering, and the cries of thousands of warriors in pitched combat. I think that, like with much game tech, adding new details and features on games like TW that affect so many models are extremely taxing on systems, so before we actually get spears splintering and shields and armor denting and breaking, we’ll need better tech and optimization. What do you expect there to be that’s not there? I think a change like bodies having collisions would be awesome, like horses and chariots tripping on bodies, and mounds of bodies causing troops to stumble and climb would be awesome, but again that may be too taxing, not sure. They def need to fix combat on walls, that’s for sure, plus add more defenses etc. for castles, forts, and walls. Always need more formations and options for angle of attack for missile units too. I’d love to be able to do the ole shoot an arched volley, followed by a straight volley, so they hit at the same time and the infantry have a harder time blocking all the missiles. Would love to hear your response and ideas. Blessings to all.
Dr. Loomis Nah, I doubt it. The only way I see Resident Evil 2 not being able to get nominated for game of the year is if there will be A TON of good games coming out, which I highly doubt. Plus the quality of Resident Evil 2 already outmatches what we see on the market right now, and even the market of last year by a landslide.

It was an amazingly fun game and it made some of my favourite games happen like the Dead Space series. What I like about the RE series is that it's so varied, 7 is a first person horror game, 4-5-6 are action packed 3rd-person 'survival horror' games, and 1-2-3 are just pure survival horror masterpieces with a static camera or whatever you call that. There are also the honourable mentions like Revelations 1 and 2 which are 3rd person survival horror games with a bit more action than the first 3 games. I guess RE2 remake goes under that too.
I have both ironically and unironically enjoyed 6. The overdone story elements were always fun in irony but honestly I loved the combat unironically. Doing dodges out of the way of enemy attacks made the 3rd person shooting feel chaotic in a way the series has never done otherwise. Melee and ranged skirmishes became almost like a dark souls game with cover. This game isn't a flaming pile if garbage as a game. As an entry in the RE series, it is thematically horrid but when I am playing it, I am more often smiling than not. It is a good game in its own right.
I love Resident Evil 6, my cousin and i played through it together, loving every minute of it. The story isnt good, but the gameplay in co-op is AMAZING. To this day, our running joke is QTE's, my cousin failed every single QTE at least twice, and the biggest and best one that took us over a half hour on was the cars in one of the stories, he had to hit a QTE or a semi, truck, or car would come and smash him, and he failed this one so many times, we laughed for at least 30 minutes straight, it was the best co-op experience to date. Sure RE6 isnt the best game in the world, but moments like that keep it in my heart.
I love playing some "bad" games for a sort of "dumb fun" or even just a "guilty pleasure" type of thing. Like, there are some games said to be "bad" by general consensus, but I still enjoy them even in just some small part. Sure, I'm not going to say its actually amazing or undeserving of the criticism. But I still can find some fun to be had in it.

Theres a huge resurgence of people coming back and saying how much they like 6. Its almost like... People were just parroting each other on release. Couldnt just appreciate it for what it was vs what they wanted it to be.
For me it's kinda the opposite, I played it with a buddy at release ironicly(we already knew ahead of time that it's trash) and then a while ago we tried to play it again and it's just so fucking bad we couldn't even play it ironicly anymore.

It's a phenomenon very easy to observe with Elder Scrolls games: The most recent one is unforgivable trash, the last one is great, and the ones before are generation-defining paragons of legend.
I gotta say, I played RE6 with a friend and we loved every corny, schlocky minute of it. The story is S tier B movie nonsense and so are the characters but that just makes it even better. Also we have to mention the controls. Why are the controls so overworked in this game? Not only can you run, shoot and melee but you can dive, dive and shoot, dive and roll around on the ground and shoot, you can dual wield guns, you can quick draw and shoot, you can quick draw and rapid fire, you can dodge enemies and melee counter enemies and I've probably forgotten a bunch of stuff! RE6 was so stupid and so fun :)
I liked parts of Jake's campaign when I played it co-op. We fucked up a quicktime event at the end on the helicopter (I think it was a helicopter), and it looked like the characters just gave up and fell to their deaths because they couldn't be bothered to continue. Conversely, the sneaking parts of that campaign were actually decent at times.
As a resident evil game, is bad. As its own thing, this game is a blast, specially in coop. All the absurdity keeps you entertained from begining to end. I remember how at end of Leon's campaign after the Jeep crashes i saw the generic soldier trapped under it unconscious, so jokingly i told my brother "i hope that the generic soldier survived" as our chars were getting up, just to watch the jeep explode, we both exploded in laughter after that. The horror entertainment label fits it perfectly 👌
I fucking love RE6 and have defended it do death ever since it was released. It's so damn fun. It's one of the best co-op games I have ever played. Probably the best. It's too good.
Something I LOVE that RE6 did for the franchise is truly show how expansive that entire world is. There are events taking place in small, tight corridors starring rookies with little experience, ammo and backup. But then there's also experienced heroes who's fought and trained for years, being so good they can literally CQC fucking ZOMBIES to death. Some (or I should say many) consider this contrast to be bad and right out damaging for this franchise. I, however, would state the complete opposite. Is RE6 a good RE game? Most would firmly say no while personally I enjoyed my time with it. I even liked it as a Resident Evil game taking place in the very same universe as say RE2. Currently I'm playing through the remake of 2 and it's by far my favorite in the entire franchise as well as one of the best zombie/horror games I've ever played. Period. But even so I do genuinely think games like the sixth installment show us that this world is as expansive as our own where we have our street fights between Police Officers and thugs but also straight out wars between countries. This is the same kind of feeling the Resident Evil franchise gives me where 2 and 6 can co-exist in the very same timeline, even if being completely different in many aspects.
maybe he didn't play it? Because for me, RE:Revelations was the game that tried to get the series back on track to more horror and less QTE/Die Hard/Twisted Metal shooter car chase sequences. I wasn't a fan of Revelations 2 splitting up the game and selling them piecemeal
azraelswrd I believe revelations was a great game and I think the raid mode was amazing as well. There were some things that could’ve been done better which is why I was so excited for the 2nd installment. But I agree that the episodic take ruined the experience for me :( especially the cosmetics and dlc items 😔

I feel. When I boot up 5 or 6, I'm not playing for the horror, but for a good time. I don't care if it's different then the originals. I don't take it very seriously and enjoy it as it is. As a result, I get a fun fest that's filled with goofs and cliches that tickle my funny bone. Plus, 6 is chock full of content so I get more bang for my buck.
Played through RE6 with my brother and we had pretty much the same experience. Almost died laughing more than once, in this day and age almost anything that makes me laugh has value in my opinion.

Just because RE5+6 is action and not horror doesn't mean that they are bad. Additionally, most people who suffer from this fallacy also suffer from the Mandela effect - thinking that all RE games before RE5 were horror, when really only RE1 was a pure horror game. Resident Evil WAS NEVER a horror series. Also, the campy and "silly" aspect was present from the very beginning and WAS NOT introduced by RE4/5. This is an invented delusion a lot of people have that just isn't true.
I recently discovered a similar concept in other games not necessarily bad ones per se, but more along the lines of who cares if it's serious or not as long as the game is fun. In this age of serious and gritty games, remembering that you play games to have a laugh and have a good time is very refreshing. My friend and I would literally laugh ourselves to tears over this games nonsense and we still revisit it every now and again.
I know I'm commenting really late on this video but RE6 is one of my favourite RE games next to RE4, RE2 Remake and RE: Code Veronica the third person shooter mechanics feel really great and is almost up there with Max Payne 3 and Ada's design in RE6 is her best design. I also really liked Jake and Sherry's story and campaign. Overall, this game is really fun in all aspects and for me it is a 7/10 at best. What didn't help RE6 was RE's horror roots and the year in which it released (2012) the year in which the most divisive games were released in every franchise.

Let's be honest here. The sheer amount of content this game has put most games nowadays to shame. These days, Ada's campaign would be a separate paid DLC. RE6 is one of the worst games I've come to love, and I'm not being sarcastic. In terms of combat, RE6 is a power fantasy, which is fitting given how experienced and well-trained the characters are. They aren't going to jump in fear at the first sign of a zombie. They'd just shrug and put a bullet through the head. Leon post RE2 barely blinks at the sight of a huge BOW. It's just another day for him at this point.
Which is why RE7 having a civilian, and RE2 Remake having a rookie Leon and Claire is prefect for survival horror games. Let's be honest here. RE6 Leon would've curb stomped his way through RE7 with one-liners guzzling out of him.

In regards to production, few games can beat the scale and polish of Resident Evil 6. It's chock-full of content and is also one of the best looking games of its generation. Damn impressive even today.

Finding a terrible game that takes itself so seriously AND can be enjoyed tenfold with friends is a great experience. A highlight for me and my group was an indie horror on Steam called Disillusions: Manga Horror. Nearly every aspect of the game was dreadful and I'll spare the details, but the developer updated it with a "competitive multiplayer experience" where the point was to jumpscare everyone else in the room.
Soon we devolved into 1AM half-drunk screaming sessions where we would start timing the jumpscares to Africa by Toto or edit the audio files so the "Jumpscare Shock!" sound was a trumpet doot.
We each only spend $0.10 on the game. A dime has never held such value since then.

So, so true. Having played for the first time only this year, I was completely staggered.
Except the game had no multiplayer mode to justify the lack of quality of the campaigns. Sonic 2006 had three separate campaigns as well (Sonic, Silver, Shadow and a final with all 3) and is the low point of many competing low points in the series, not unlike RE 6. Everyone loves bonus characters in good games.
I think a lot of the frustration at the game also came at a lack of trust in Capcom in those years, their westernization of their franchises did not go down well.

I must be fun at parties they would’ve done exactly what Hitman 2016 attempted. They would’ve released the first two missions of the Leon campaign and charged 20$ for each campaign successively. Altogether EA would’ve made this game cost around 200$ total I bet
The majority of maps for The Mercenaries were dlc, that particular mode was seriously lacking in content. There were only 3 maps in the base game. The single player however does have very substantial content.

I've had many great memories playing this game with my brother, even when we knew that this is not was nothing like previous games. If I'm being honest, I want this style of gameplay to return in a spin off rather then a main series title.
I was one of the few people who fucking loved this game when it came out. I picked it up on xbox one last month and had a friend play it with me online. Our playthrough culminated to the greatest thing I've seen in any game when I was trying to snipe a J'avo as Piers when I looked down from the rooftop I was on to see Chris crawling on his back, using only his legs to crawl forward, while screaming "hell yeah" and shooting the J'avo I was aiming at.
Also the fucking Mercenaries mode was the best in the series, don't even play with me.
Ada in latex suit crawling in the vents and camera focusing on her rear. Best RE game.
That was definitely one of the highlights for me. Sherry had a fine ass as well.

Plus, the remake actually somehow manages to look worse in terms of art direction and area design than the original ps2 game in some sections (multiple parts that in the original had awesome unique battle arenas with rain and stuff that were replaced with generic ones with no rain or anything). Also, the remake used a completely different combat system than the original ps2 game. I think those are completely valid reasons to not like a remake honestly.

Plus you wouldn’t wanna parry a 4 ton griffin. The combat makes a lot more sense for fighting the monsters as you would dodge an animal in real life instead of blocking. I agree that W3 combat is unnecessarily fast but i just assumed it was because he was a “Witcher”. The only problem i have with Witcher 3 is that oils and potions aren’t really important and quen is too spammy and one note. They should have had added a little more dimension to the magic.

Im not a fan of RE6 but I think RE5 is one of the best Co-op games of all time. It also has the best mercenaries mode in the series (the mercenaries reunion version in the gold edition, not the vanilla version). Playing the main campaign solo is kind of a slog though.
RE4 is one of the few games that deserves to be described as a masterpiece. It's my personal favorite along with the gamecube remake of RE1. It's baffling to see some people trying to discredit it somehow by saying "it wasn't a survival horror game" or "it wasn't a real Resident Evil game" as if that actually affects the game's quality. RE4 doesn't need the RE series (even though it's definitely a Resident Evil game) and it doesn't need to be grouped with other games just to give it a label. RE4 can stand on its own as one of the greatest games ever made.

Been playing Resident Evil since the very first and I still adore RE6. Hella fun action game. Also, you can pause the game on PC at least. You just have to use the actual pause key on your keyboard.
I’ve played every RE game and RE6 is possibly one of my favorites. It’s so ridiculously fun that I don’t even care how stupid it is. Me and my friend play it every summer and we have an absolute blast every single time.
My problem with RE6 stems from the clunky combat, honestly. The ammo is just scarce enough to encourage the broken melee system, and watching the same wrestling moves on zombies is not fun. Then theres a QTE around every corner. Also, the game is just ugly too. One of these days I'm going to try to stomach it to beat it just to be a completionist but RE6 is just bad in almost every way.
The co-op is super fun and those fanfiction moments are crazy XD

I thought it was a full-blown pleasure. Yeah, it's a major departure for the series but I thought it was pretty fun for what it is.
Plus, I liked being able to move while aiming and shooting.
I have 70 hours played in RE6. 70. Why? Because the action-focused mechanics made Mercenaries THE best iteration of the game mode to date.
And the co-op was fun as hell.
RE6 Mercs is literally one of the best 3D action games ever created, and you get to enjoy it with a friend. Shame there's so few maps and the campaign isn't at the same level.
RE6 should also have its genre changed (or one of its genres). It should also count as a comedy game.
I thought it was way more repetitive than others with some specific melee attacks being one hit kills forcing you to just do the same neck breaker, Sherry's double kick or Leon's back elbow over and over and over again.

The game is hilariously bad that its actually good. Its taking itself seriously yet its like Metal Gear Solid kind of stupid fun (minus the refinement to the nth degree).
RE6 Mercs was a blast to play, but Raid Mode from Revelations 1+2 is still my jam. I love them so much, I have Rev2 on release because of it, plus I rebought it on my Switch because the missions can be short enough that I can play for maybe an hour and progress some.

@@maninredhelm its what you notice actually with the RE Titles, is they have to reinvent themselves all of a sudden to pull off a major win. Each game that comes out that feels like the last has this tendency of being labeled "The bad one" before all of a sudden it changes pace completely. RE7 is nothing like RE original or RE 4, yet is being praised as return to form. Funny enough at the time RE4 was having the same effect, just now with 5 and 6 peoples perspectives changed as the series got more action orientated during the era. This has been a trend for RE, so yeah i say its right to call it an RE game since it does that cycle one again, or rather puts it into light.
I love that the final boss is literally an organic Transformer, a man who turns into a cheetah, a T-Rex and a dragon is really weird and fun
I couldn't play games at the time that this came out, I would spend all my down-time on Let's Plays. RE 6 was a joy to watch, story was engaging enough and the moves, the scenery, the outfits... It was all so cool.
And having my favourite LPrs collaborate together in the multiplayer? Real fun times.

Reccomendation: In light of slow degradation and death of Total War franchise, you could make a video about downfall of classical RTS genre and it's established franchises and general disappearance of RTS games from front pages.
Wish I could, but RTS's aren't my forte, and could only make a video on the subject as somebody almost completely blind to the genre and its establishments.
Btw Starcraft 2 and Age of Empires 2 are still played. SC2 has multiple big tournaments a year and gets well covered and streamed. Age 2 I didn’t realize after picking up the bundle has like 30+ civs now with new campaigns with so many hours, and new AI

Why are there no new installments? Why are there no new franchises? Why are there only just a few RTS games coming out every year, and why do they rarely get any attention at all, much less the front page coverage (for example, Battlefleet Gothic Armada II right now)?
RTS used to rule the gaming industry in the days of Warcraft, Starcraft, C&C, TW, CoH, AoE, AoM etc. etc. I thought its downfall would make an amazing topic for Raycevick video.
@O Belmont Total War is now doing yearly releases with minor changes and even fewer improvements, built on a 10 year old engine that was designed for Empire / Napoleon type of gameplay, not for sword and shield collisions. It was not even perfect for musket battles in the first place, but they kept using it for a decade now. TW veterans know what im talking about, if you are interested i suggest you watch Reynold Sanity's video 'Sane Critique, Why Rome II Failed'.
And he made that video like 5 years ago, things got even worse now. Funny thing is, Rome II got fixed in the meantime and is now enjoyable to a degree, especially with mods and Creative Assembly knows it, which is why they shamelessly still make DLCs for R2 even after 6 years now, that pretty much add nothing of value to the core game.
They even made some kind of Desert Kingdoms DLC, where you get black female generals, which caused even more stupid shit and alienated the community, because their PR team handled all the criticism basically the same way EA did on BFV i.e. 'Educate yourself bigots, there were stronk wahmen generals in history.'
Essentially, Total War is now a mainstream, yearly franchise with a decade old engine that prevents any real innovation, and a disillusionted veteran community replaced by casual players, who CA caters to more and more with each installment. Upcoming Three Kingdoms will have ARCADE mode for the first time in TW series, i couldnt believe my eyes. Total War lost its identity and is now a shell of its former glory, similiar to CoD in that aspect...
Бајомир I pretty much agree with everything you said, especially the TW 3 Kingdoms stuff as I recently read a book on China, and would’ve loved a purely historical game, no idea what they were thinking, and kind of hope to see it burn.
To answer your main questions with my assumptions: I think those great RTS’s hit at a time that graphics, UI, mechanics, and AI came together like no time before. I’d have to go look at what we’d have been playing as far as all the other genres at the time, but clearly you’re right that RTS’s ruled, but the point that I want to make is all the other genres had a clear way of progressing, like graphics and UI mostly, as I feel AI for shooters has barely evolved, same with mechanics. RTS’s we love for the mechanics, and I suppose that’s a lot harder to change bc RTS’s have some 100% expected mechanics. I think honestly that TW is the evolution of the RTS, bc we went from AoE with 75 pop cap to TW with 75 units adding up to maybe 7,000 plus models, and a turn based campaign map. Like hot damn, it also kind of kills Sid Meyers Civilization in a way too. We went from hearing the same sounds and seeing the same animations in all those RTS’s to TW with dynamic battles raging with the sounds of shields and spears splintering, and the cries of thousands of warriors in pitched combat. I think that, like with much game tech, adding new details and features on games like TW that affect so many models are extremely taxing on systems, so before we actually get spears splintering and shields and armor denting and breaking, we’ll need better tech and optimization. What do you expect there to be that’s not there? I think a change like bodies having collisions would be awesome, like horses and chariots tripping on bodies, and mounds of bodies causing troops to stumble and climb would be awesome, but again that may be too taxing, not sure. They def need to fix combat on walls, that’s for sure, plus add more defenses etc. for castles, forts, and walls. Always need more formations and options for angle of attack for missile units too. I’d love to be able to do the ole shoot an arched volley, followed by a straight volley, so they hit at the same time and the infantry have a harder time blocking all the missiles. Would love to hear your response and ideas.

Dr. Loomis Nah, I doubt it. The only way I see Resident Evil 2 not being able to get nominated for game of the year is if there will be A TON of good games coming out, which I highly doubt. Plus the quality of Resident Evil 2 already outmatches what we see on the market right now, and even the market of last year by a landslide.

RE4 changed the franchise for the worse and it's taken over a decade to recover.
It was an amazingly fun game and it made some of my favourite games happen like the Dead Space series. What I like about the RE series is that it's so varied, 7 is a first person horror game, 4-5-6 are action packed 3rd-person 'survival horror' games, and 1-2-3 are just pure survival horror masterpieces with a static camera or whatever you call that. There are also the honourable mentions like Revelations 1 and 2 which are 3rd person survival horror games with a bit more action than the first 3 games. I guess RE2 remake goes under that too.

I have both ironically and unironically enjoyed 6. The overdone story elements were always fun in irony but honestly I loved the combat unironically. Doing dodges out of the way of enemy attacks made the 3rd person shooting feel chaotic in a way the series has never done otherwise. Melee and ranged skirmishes became almost like a dark souls game with cover. This game isn't a flaming pile if garbage as a game. As an entry in the RE series, it is thematically horrid but when I am playing it, I am more often smiling than not. It is a good game in its own right.
The boulder punching was the part I stopped what I was doing and just... Questioned my existence
I love Resident Evil 6, my cousin and i played through it together, loving every minute of it. The story isnt good, but the gameplay in co-op is AMAZING. To this day, our running joke is QTE's, my cousin failed every single QTE at least twice, and the biggest and best one that took us over a half hour on was the cars in one of the stories, he had to hit a QTE or a semi, truck, or car would come and smash him, and he failed this one so many times, we laughed for at least 30 minutes straight, it was the best co-op experience to date. Sure RE6 isnt the best game in the world, but moments like that keep it in my heart.
I love playing some "bad" games for a sort of "dumb fun" or even just a "guilty pleasure" type of thing. Like, there are some games said to be "bad" by general consensus, but I still enjoy them even in just some small part. Sure, I'm not going to say its actually amazing or undeserving of the criticism. But I still can find some fun to be had in it.

Theres a huge resurgence of people coming back and saying how much they like 6. Its almost like... People were just parroting each other on release. Couldnt just appreciate it for what it was vs what they wanted it to be.
For me it's kinda the opposite, I played it with a buddy at release ironicly(we already knew ahead of time that it's trash) and then a while ago we tried to play it again and it's just so fucking bad we couldn't even play it ironicly anymore.

I gotta say, I played RE6 with a friend and we loved every corny, schlocky minute of it. The story is S tier B movie nonsense and so are the characters but that just makes it even better. Also we have to mention the controls. Why are the controls so overworked in this game? Not only can you run, shoot and melee but you can dive, dive and shoot, dive and roll around on the ground and shoot, you can dual wield guns, you can quick draw and shoot, you can quick draw and rapid fire, you can dodge enemies and melee counter enemies and I've probably forgotten a bunch of stuff! RE6 was so stupid and so fun :)

I liked parts of Jake's campaign when I played it co-op. We fucked up a quicktime event at the end on the helicopter (I think it was a helicopter), and it looked like the characters just gave up and fell to their deaths because they couldn't be bothered to continue. Conversely, the sneaking parts of that campaign were actually decent at times.
As a resident evil game, is bad.
As its own thing, this game is a blast, specially in coop.
All the absurdity keeps you entertained from begining to end.
I remember how at end of Leon's campaign after the Jeep crashes i saw the generic soldier trapped under it unconscious, so jokingly i told my brother "i hope that the generic soldier survived" as our chars were getting up, just to watch the jeep explode, we both exploded in laughter after that.
The horror entertainment label fits it perfectly 👌

Personally I thought RE5 sucked. Not because it wasn't faithful to the series, but just because it wasn't very good.
Something I LOVE that RE6 did for the franchise is truly show how expansive that entire world is. There are events taking place in small, tight corridors starring rookies with little experience, ammo and backup. But then there's also experienced heroes who's fought and trained for years, being so good they can literally CQC fucking ZOMBIES to death.
Some (or I should say many) consider this contrast to be bad and right out damaging for this franchise. I, however, would state the complete opposite. Is RE6 a good RE game? Most would firmly say no while personally I enjoyed my time with it. I even liked it as a Resident Evil game taking place in the very same universe as say RE2.
Currently I'm playing through the remake of 2 and it's by far my favorite in the entire franchise as well as one of the best zombie/horror games I've ever played. Period. But even so I do genuinely think games like the sixth installment show us that this world is as expansive as our own where we have our street fights between Police Officers and thugs but also straight out wars between countries. This is the same kind of feeling the Resident Evil franchise gives me where 2 and 6 can co-exist in the very same timeline, even if being completely different in many aspects.

maybe he didn't play it? Because for me, RE:Revelations was the game that tried to get the series back on track to more horror and less QTE/Die Hard/Twisted Metal shooter car chase sequences. I wasn't a fan of Revelations 2 splitting up the game and selling them piecemeal
azraelswrd I believe revelations was a great game and I think the raid mode was amazing as well. There were some things that could’ve been done better which is why I was so excited for the 2nd installment. But I agree that the episodic take ruined the experience for me :( especially the cosmetics and dlc items 😔

I don't take it very seriously and enjoy it as it is. As a result, I get a fun fest that's filled with goofs and cliches that tickle my funny bone.
Plus, 6 is chock full of content so I get more bang for my buck.

Played through RE6 with my brother and we had pretty much the same experience. Almost died laughing more than once, in this day and age almost anything that makes me laugh has value in my opinion.

"Resident Evil Fallacy" - Where people think that media is bad just because it's action/not the same genre as the original/not canon/over the top and "silly".
Just because RE5+6 is action and not horror doesn't mean that they are bad.
Additionally, most people who suffer from this fallacy also suffer from the Mandela effect - thinking that all RE games before RE5 were horror, when really only RE1 was a pure horror game. Resident Evil WAS NEVER a horror series. Also, the campy and "silly" aspect was present from the very beginning and WAS NOT introduced by RE4/5. This is an invented delusion a lot of people have that just isn't true.
It's as if a japanese Michael Bay made an actually good video game.

I recently discovered a similar concept in other games not necessarily bad ones per se, but more along the lines of who cares if it's serious or not as long as the game is fun. In this age of serious and gritty games, remembering that you play games to have a laugh and have a good time is very refreshing. My friend and I would literally laugh ourselves to tears over this games nonsense and we still revisit it every now and again.
I know I'm commenting really late on this video but RE6 is one of my favourite RE games next to RE4, RE2 Remake and RE: Code Veronica the third person shooter mechanics feel really great and is almost up there with Max Payne 3 and Ada's design in RE6 is her best design. I also really liked Jake and Sherry's story and campaign.
Overall, this game is really fun in all aspects and for me it is a 7/10 at best. What didn't help RE6 was RE's horror roots and the year in which it released (2012) the year in which the most divisive games were released in every franchise.
