I found that the lower you're tuned, the higher the Sweep knob needs to be. Since I'm mostly in "drop B", I keep it pretty low.. but I also use the same speakers as the Satan cab.

Learning the channel volume must be at 3 o click or more changed the whole game for this amp and me . I found it thin. Not now . They must have messed up in production and figured it out and kept the odd feature. But I kept the amp lol
I’m the opposite of the commenters that say to play clean and stuff. The thing I don’t like about modern metal tones is the lack of gain. But my styles of tones are 90’s solid state overblown guitars so yeah….to each their own. I just would like to hear the amp with gain on full lol
To be fair tho, the lack of gain can be intentional for stuff that’s more technical and require precise playing, but I agree the more gain the more crushing the tone
Yeah it’s interesting how the trend seems to be less gain in extreme metal lately. I think like most things there’s probably a balance, but if I had to guess it will swing the other way in a few years where people start going ham on the gain again
The uniqueness of this amp is that it's a middle ground between solidstate and tube amp. It has a character of a tube amp pushed with modified RAT. Imagine a solidstate amp that can actually plays great lead tone and open chords. That's Satan amp. A bass player will love you too, this amps gives a headroom for bass player to fill in and shine. A lot of bedroom players sold it as it's not that bass heavy as dual rectifier and doesn't give that air pump kick in the chest effect, but this amp sounds so good in a mix, especially for 7 string death metal. Test it with passive pickups too, imo this amps sounds so much better with them.
I want a Randall Satan so badly lol. That, the ENGL Savage Mk. ll, and the Mesa Boogie Badlander are the best sounding metal amps to my ear. Also, as an honorable mention, the EVH 5150.
Had this amp when they were everywhere on guitar center for 1500 before Ola blew up on youtube.... preferred the Archon & Savage 120 over it all day without any boosts. Oh yeah that Randall Satan blew a 30 cent capacitor that took out a 450$ transformer... my mesa certified tech replaced it & eliminatd the remaining capacitors that weren't even needed. There were 4, one of which blew... for some reason they are in the design but serve no real purpose. Amp done great after that, then I bought a savage & sent it packing 2 weeks later 🤙

This is a cool channel, you are a great guitarist so that makes it more enjoyable. I've seen a few other channels where the guitarists are playing the same riffs over and over or just chugs, it gets boring.
I have the thrasher, which is kinda similar, I usually only use a clean boost and just play with the gain frequency filter knobs, but I find that I don't need a boost most of the time

It has only one high gain amp (Bogner Überschall) but the way it reacts to IRs is just incredible. I have never experienced this with Line6, Ampero, NUX, Neural DSP and others. I have loaded IRs from the Kristian Kohle Rainbows and Chainsaws pack and IRs from STL tones Libra. I am in love with every IR I am playing which is usually not the case. I don't know which magic they used but I feel like I have plenty of usable killer guitar tones with just one head. There is already a demo from Rabea but it would really rock if we would have something from you !!! Keep on Rockin and cheers from Germany !!!
Nice man, consider swapping preamp tubes! I got a 50 watt Diavlo and it's just a monster. I think the tubes in these type of Randall's make a big difference to the gain and tone you get. Mine had some JJs in it when I got it. I swapped out the preamp tubes with some Mullard ax7s and it definitely increases the amount of gain you can dial in with these amps. Enough no boost needed. With the JJs in there it was fizzy and lacked any balls
This is a massive sounding amp, I like it a lot. Unfortunately, I just can't warm to the crispy, brittle (to me) high end of active pickups. To each his own

I wish they had a combo amp version! I am a strict bedroom player. And I mostly play via headphones. So I could never rationalize, buying REAL amp equipment. I have all these high end guitars, and pedals. But I am just playing through eith Boss Katana, Peavy Vypr, or head phones through my multi effects processor. But I often wonder what its like, having a real amp.
I had a randall satan, and sold it because it was pretty loud.. I bought a Quad cortex, and it sounds pretty damn good.. got a Skervesen guitar and I had a blast.. but suddenly I saw a satan for sale, found some vids of that tone.. and i just realise I shouldn't have sold it. Gonna try and sell the quad cortex and buy a satan again
The (crazy amount of) string buzz audible through this amp reminds me of Sinister's 1995 "Hate" album... which proves, it's not necessarily a bad thing, if used right.
@@barrygomez5968 No, string buzz is... the buzzing of the the strings, which normally occurs only when you hit the strings too hard or if the truss rod is improperly set up, or if the frets need some grinding. Here, it is audible throughout the whole video (and when boosted, at 7:09 time mark onward, it gets quite extreme), which means that too much of the upper mids and treble from the guitar is getting into the overdriving stages of the preamp. In fact, it's so sharp and distinct that I'm sure this region is heavily boosted in the amp, without any significant low-pass filtering in the high gain channel. Some may like the tone, I'm not a fan of it.

No probably not. I think when people are like “that amp doesn’t need a boost” they don’t understand why you are using a boost… I’m not trying to add gain, I’m adding that aggression you get by hitting the front of an amp with a hot signal. It’s more percussive compressed and aggressive sounding. Typically I’ll actually dial the gain in the amp back to compensate for any gain introduced by the pedal.

I have an acoustic lead g20 solid state amp with a Fulltone OCD as a boost I usually have my bass around 2 to 4 and my mids at 2 and treble around 7.5 and gain around 7 because I play Thrash Metal I hate having so much bass because it ruins the tone in my opinion one of these days I'm hoping I get a Dual Rectifier lunchbox amp or something with tons of gain for I don't have to worry about my tone being so flubby.

That amp is much more versatile than most people would think. Even for a non metal player that amp plenty of tones that rival many non metal amps

I am in the exact same boat. Dial back the gain and you supposedly get clarity when in reality you have a guitar sound with less balls

I asked Ola to give me one of those. He didn't.
Seems to have a nasal tone like a JSX.
