I know im watching a year on but what do we do where all this is present in ASD, adult autism, aspergers where there are deficiencies with theory of mind, executive function etc
I hear your concern. It can be really challenging when behaviors linked to ASD, like difficulties with theory of mind or executive function, resemble abusive patterns. It's tough to know how to respond in those situations. While these challenges can explain certain behaviors, they don't make it any less important to address how they impact you. Seeking support and finding ways to set healthy boundaries can be helpful for both you and the person involved. We are here for you!
Hi there. I recommend The Marriage Recovery Center, Sharmen Kimbrough or Dr. David Hawkins. Let them know you were referred to them by me, as they may be more able to accommodate you. Going through the process at The Marriage Recovery Center is not couples therapy. The abusive spouse will join a men's group and individual therapy once per week. The victim will have access to the therapist to share their perspective in real-time so that the abuser can be confronted and issues worked through in a timely fashion. The overall process can take years. And a marital separation is advised during the process for many reasons. It takes work. You will experience many setbacks that may be traumatizing. If you are the victim, you may experience the abuser not responding to therapy quickly enough or at all. This is essential data for you to take in at face value. Many victims who try The Marriage Recovery Center come to quickly realize that it's time to move on because their abuser is not putting in the necessary effort to bring about change. Divorcing yourself from abuse is not a bad thing, whether you do it through true transformation or making the decision to leave. If you decide to work with The Marriage Recovery Center please email me for additional tips to help make your experience successful. I hope this helps. Warmly, Annette
Hi there, The MEND Project does not recommend couples therapy in abusive or emotionally destructive relationships, as it can cause more harm. We encourage you to find a highly-skilled therapist who specializes in abuse. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to look into our self-paced course, where you will gain the clarity you need to process what you are experiencing, propelling you on your healing journey. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us at info@themendproject.com. We're here to support you as you navigate your journey!
