unpopular opinion: not every tattoo you get has to have a deep meaning. sometimes it just feels good to get a tattoo that you just find aesthetically pleasing or you think will look good on you. also, I'm not saying that you shouldn't have tattoos that have meaning to them, just saying not every tat has to be deep.

I so have to agree with Tans philosophy, the imperfection can be scary as well as trends and interest change. You could like something for 5 years and then absolutely loose the love for it. Definitely see Riches view on it though
I like it too because it’s true. You will always judge you Tatts the most and point out all the flaws. But when it comes to trends I think if your Worried about it just get something that’s meaning full and cover your body little by little that way your always keeping up with trends.
I am 16 currently and im planning to get a sleeve when I turn 18. Luckily for me, I have an uncle who's non-related really but he's one of the top 10 tattoo artist in my country. We are very closes and he's tatted pretty much everyone who has tattoos in my family
Holy shit I watched this dude back in freshman year of high school when he only had 40k subscribers now I just randomly saw this video and he’s at 1.9m, respect for this dude’s grind 💯
I was in my late teens/early 20s when I got like 95% of my tattoos... and I wouldn’t say I regret them, BUT I’m not super proud of them either lol. It was in the early 2010’s and wiz was popping and he was heavily tattooed, Lil Wayne is heavily tattooed and I just wanted to mimick that look, now I just have a full sleeve of just random shit no theme or certain style and they’re honestly not the best work lol. But oh well they all tell a story about me and what I was going through when I was those ages. But if I could go back I would forsure not have rushed them and would’ve put more thought into them.
I’m 17 and I have 6 random things all over me. And I don’t regret it at all. I like the look of random things all over the place. They’re all a good story to tell
I feel it bro! Thats also a good way of looking at it too though. Just a reflection of what you were thinking and going through at the time. Can't regret that.
The very first tattoo place I went to had a sign that read "good tattoos aren't cheap, and cheap tattoos aren't good". The first thing you saw when you walked in, always kept that in mind.
Solid info, don't agree with all of it, I've got sleeves, chest and some on my legs all black and grey. Don't think the time thing is 100% accurate, my artist is very good and old school (from the 70s) he can do huge pieces in 2hrs but that could be an experience thing as much as anything. Some younger artists focus too much on it being "perfect" they take all day doing simple stuff. Good video though, not hating, just my 2 cents
As someone with a lot of tattoos, the only criticism that I have for Riche's advice is the idea of always thinking of what other people will think about your pieces / how they may look at you. I think that the most important thing is what you yourself thinks about them and that's it
Love you doing this video, yes we requested it a lot. I gave my artist a reference photo for Athena (massive bottom piece of my sleeve) and he totally transformed it into something way better than I imagined. Breathe deep when they're hitting those pain points truly.
just got finished an American traditional dragon done on my entire upper right arm and I can definitely say, FIND AN ARTIST OVER SHOP. Research their work and don't just go to someone because your family or friend recommended them. Look at their work and decide for yourself. I got really lucky with finding an artist an hour away from me that does some of the cleanest traditional work I've seen.
I'm getting a new one tomorrow (my first flourescent - doodle styled tattoo) tattooed by my best friend at his place - he made the design and will do the action.. I have 3 tattoos at the moment which can all be covered by a T-Shirt depending on sleeve lenght, that's why I prefer boxy shirts because they tend to have longer sleeves. Right Shoulder - compass rose with script beneath "won't stray from the path", Chest - eagle wings with a sandhour in the middle all over my chest with script beneath with fitting roses around the nipples "time is the enemy" & Left Shoulder - a junk ship with japanese waves and script "homewardbound") ; my first ever a friend drew the design for me and the design for my chestpiece and left shoulder I drew myself (tattooed by a friend I knew through graffiti who works at a shop; I also was the first person he ever tattooed on in real life and ever since then I go to this guy). I only have got black and white ones now since I find them to be aesthetically more pleasing on people with tan/darker skin.. In most asian guys cases (light skinned) colors might also work well; really bright red, yellow, blue, orange, green tones might work but since I'm darker than even some of my black friends I tend to do only black and white. Another thing with colored tattoos is that you have to get them redone every 3-5 years because the color will be fading over time; with black & white it would be about 7-10 years for re-inking. In general I prefer to get stuff tattooed that either friends of mine or I, myself drew the design of because of the more personal meaning with quotes or song names from my favourite hardcore punk and metal bands but overall I stick with black & white traditional naval styled or asian styled tattoos.
This was a dope video! Super informative and really making me think harder about what I want, how I want it, and the repercussions of getting it. Preciate you Richie!
Definitely have been thinking about getting a tattoo. Wanted the mamba logo for Kobe since he’s been a big influence in my life, but timing isn’t right as of now since I’m diving into my career. Very informative and I’ll be looking back into this video once I finally do decide. Thanks Richie as always.
Bro I do 4-5 hour sessions and I waited 3 weeks before I went back in to do shading after that 4 hours of line work. You’re crazy for doing 10 hour sessions and 3 days in a row!
A good point that I don't hear often is how does your tattoo affect your bodies appearance. Not just on that part where the tattoo is, but around it aswell
Thanks for the tattoo video finally. You provided great info. I have 2 tattoos myself so it’s cool to see what you have to say. I love your work though Richie🔥.
Good video, I’ve literally got my outline done, got deployed for 6 months (not by choice) and had to get shading after. Luckily it turned out great lol
i thought the pain would hurt like bad but after 30 mins it felt pretty numb, only part that hurt was when my artist took a break and went back on,, now that that hurt bad or right after when the ink is leaking out and it just stung bad
i have 2 full sleeves and adding more to leg maybe, only cuz i already have a good career. it felt weird when only had 1 sleeve, like it needs to be balanced lol same when i had half sleeve, felt like the space needs to be filled. it's truly addicting once u get ur 1st one
I got tats a couple years ago and I haven’t been able to get more because money is tight and I’m out of college. Really wish I had this video when I was first deciding. I went the “per hour” route rather than a session and that probably would have been better. Granted I still love my tattoos and I don’t regret them but I still have the thought of “what if I went this route”. Regardless two things are for sure, Richie has some nice tattoos and I’m gonna start saving up again for them.
Been planning to get my entire chest done since high school following the same artist since 2013. $1200 for a 8 hour session. Friend whose gone got all the lines done on his arm sleeve plus some shading in areas. Still has to go in for another session but I think those are good prices to look at when getting these asian style pieces. Imo the better tattoos i've seen never usually have any meaning but at the end of the day its your body do what you want.
Good convo on tattoos. We see the sleeves, but what is Richie chest tattoo of? Just wondering how it ties into the sleeves. Kind of like going to see Mona Lisa, and not able to see the nose. 🤣
Don’t get a tattoo bc someone else has one, don’t copy someone else and get something that had meaning to you something that contributes to your personality or beliefs that brings out your individuality.
after years of consideration I finally said fuck it during quarantine and got my first done, took 11 hours and wasn’t bad at all. I went straight one session so food/water was a necessity for me
We asked and Richie delivered I’m not gonna say anything else 😂😂

Right, I hate when they ask me what my tattoos mean or why I got them and I tell them that I just like the look and they get all weird about it
