Thank you so much for showing the inverted carrier tip!!! I have tried everything else, but one trip to the vet and my cat avoids it at all costs, no matter how cozy it is or if it has treats. This is very helpful!
my cat hates carriers, like will fight you tooth and nail. As for the butt first method wont work cause he will use his back legs as well as the front legs to fight back. Last time I took him I got scars from it, and I am not looking forward to next weeks vet appointment with him. However, his older brother should be ok he sleeps in the carrier from time to time. I got a 2 way carrier hoping that helps getting him in it easier since they have gotten a lot bigger since their last vet appointments (you can tell i'm already worried, hence the reason I watched this video).
I appreciate the effort but all of these RUclips videos show cats that are not that reluctant to go in. Consider yourself lucky but you have no clue how frantically some cats fight this.
One way I haven't seen any video show that I learnt at the vet the other day and was super helpful. Put the kitty in backwards. Butt first. They don't see it so they barely resist And they can't go spread eagle and stop them self's from going in. Anyone looking for answers. It's well worth the try
@@SpaGurl85 oh I wish my Kitty would do that. My Kitty is on the chubby side so is makes for another challenge when you got a big cat that doesn't want to go in. I wish you all the luck :) really do
I am really scared. my cat has a big lump near his throat and I believe it is a bee sting or, hopefully not, cancer. I am scared because he is acting weird and scratches it. it's a clear sign that I need to take him to the vet. but I've never taken him to the vet before. I am afraid that it will be hard to put him in the carrier, and if I will manage to get him in he will freak out and hurt himself. I know that I have to take him to the vet but I don't know how. please, if you are reading this comment, tell me what I can do for my cat. I love him so much and I don't want to lose him.
Well, your idea worked but do you have any more suggestions, particularly for cat owners who are not as strong and coordinated as their cats? Mine reacted so fast I couldn’t hold her, it resulted in a fall against the TV table which moved about six inches and could have broken the television. I threw a towel over her but she pushed herself out of it in about two seconds. One time I called animal control and that worked but I would like to be able to do it myself.
my cat just goes half way in and uses his paws to scoop the treat out and he runs away with it LOL its impossible to get him in so we've resorted to putting him in his harness to take him to the vet.
three years later but quickly throw a towel over the cat wrapping it under his belly as you pick him up in one fast fluid motion. If done correctly the cat won't have enough time to react. Then put him in the cage he'll crawl right of the towel into it. This method works great but only once if you mess it up it'll be 10x harder.
I'd say try to gets your cat positively associated with the carrier.Like bring it out when you dont actually need her in it, and have it sitting out. Or better yet, bring it out, and give treats/wet food, or play with her right after. That way she starts to get happy feelings / a feeling of excitement any time you bring out the carrier :)
You could also if possible just take the carrier out and leave it out. Maybe everyday drop a treat in the back of the carrier. She’ll begin to associate the carrier as the place she gets treats then when you need to put your cat in it just drop some treats in the back and close it up
I use a laser pointer to get my cat to move into the carrier by pointing it to the floor directing it into the inside of the carrier. They cant resist the laser pointer. :)
I try to sit the carrier out week in advance she just runs and hide. For a 3:00 appointment I have to start getting her in at 2:00 don’t work she runs under bed 🙄 I’m so over it
excellent idea about putting the cat in butt first and rotating the carrier up. I was having the hardest time and this worked like a charm, minimizing his stress too!
The last few months our cats have been in the carriers for interstate air travel and boarding (which means strange people, the worst thing ever). I've been trying to detraumatise the experience with having the carriers around but I think it's going to be a while. At least the most recent move was only a 15-minute drive! They wailed like the end of the world was coming the whole way, expecting a plane trip again. It was nice to be able to let them out and watch them settle.
In another video a towel was used. Approach the cat from behind and put the towel over the cat including his head and scoop him up, then put him into the carrier. Do it quickly before he figures out how to get out from the towel.
I have had my semi-feral 9mo. old cat for 3mos. he has made great strides in trust, he now plays and sleeps by our legs on the bed and even friended our big dog He is very comfortable in the house! But I still cannot pick him up. He goes ballistic flailing and running for cover and hisses and spats out with his feet. Hates the carrier as well. He must have had a very bad experience as a kitten at the shelter. I think they took them to different. places for adoption days. It took 5 people to get him the day we took him home. I need to get him to the vet and hate to undo all the progress we have made to this point by forcing him or using a towel. how do I slowly get his trust at being picked up. Any help would be appreciated!!
So you need to take your cat to the vet and know it doesn't like carriers. All these how tos saying put your carrier out for weeks so the cat is comfortable around it. My cat is sick and needs to go now not next month! lol
I already do the butt first method for my bigger cat since he was 3 months old but he still hates it. The other small cat is another story however... she is hyper active and when i try any method, she will fly away leaving my arms and hands red althought I wear a glove..
I stress for days before. Is tossing the blanket over her and then grabbing her okay if I can't lure her to me? She's not catchable at all. My oher two cats are easy, not her. I'll put more catpnip in the carrier first and wait for her to go in. I've had both carriers by my bed for a couple weeks now.
Always ask your vet, but I would say that's fine. Some kitties just hate gettin in the carrier! But ultimately, you're doing it for her best interest and your final goal is to getting her to her destination :)
so my cats are fairly new, we adopted them at 4 years old, we've had them a few weeks, and they are lovely don't get me wrong...i love cats. but this is the one issue we've had with them...apparently they just HATE cat carriers...when we adopted them it apparently took ages to get them in...but we didn't see that part because the adoption agency took care of that for us. they were complaining all the way back in the car though. now we have to take them to their first vet appointment and the vet isn't far thankfully...but the second the cats SEE the carrier they are like "NOPE" and ran off behind the sofa. which is something they haven't done since the first got here...they are usually very friendly and sociable...even by cat standards. but the second the carrier came out they were just "aw hell no" and fled. we tried a few things but eventually we had to cancel the appointment.
Thanks, man! First time cat parent, but vet appointment fail today (wife out of town) so had to reschedule. I enjoyed your video and will try these strategies next time. I never considered the vertical approach either, but it looks like that may be what's needed next time.
I'm probably one of the least crafty people out there, so I dont know how well that would work out :) I might be able to try it for fun, or better yet, find someone who is really good at it and ask them to help :D
I'm struggling with mine today. I had to check YT for other suggestions. So far did everything you said except mine is evil and bit me......wish me luck. will try the back first.
Awesome question! From what I've read, I dont think there is a particular age, and some cats are more "hairballier" than others, depending on grooming habits and hair types and more. I put 3 treats inside cat carrier as she's in when I leave house so going to get no problem. 3 treats she at 5 months goes in.lol
Haha thats a good way to do it too! :)
cats seem pretty chill....mine is too, until he sees the carrier. Sigh.
Well.... I got the cat in. I don't have any skin left on my arms or legs butttttttt….. I got the cat in the crate.
😂😝
I feel you on that one. My cat who is normally a huge goofy pacifist, transforms into a wild bobcat. Feline Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
😭😭😭
I put in the treats and even catnip and his favorite toy and he freaked out and ran away carrying his toy in his mouth. 😐

For extra hyper cats, buy and use a pair of welding gloves.
J Johnson I tried to weld my cat onto her carrier one time. She didn’t like that too much

Yep some kitties really don't like being picked up, but thats ok :)
Yes mine too. Had her 2 years. She's 13 but was treated badly.
What do I do if my cat murders me while I’m trying to get her in?
Lol we have a cat like that. Umm, move very very quickly :D

I gotta go somewhere fast, the treat doesn't work, I have no help, this video has probably been edited, and I want to die! 😭
my cat wont trust me even I put tons of treat in to the carrier
First catch your cat… 🙀
my cat went in, grabbed the treats, and then ate them outside of the carrier....i'm screwed....
Thanks for this. My tabby is a dream but a nightmare to get in a carrier - gravity method worked a treat when on my own this morning. Thanks
