- I've often enjoyed setting under the Sun Ninja and the large CoolCabana over the past two years. I've reviewed both of these beach shades individually, but many subscribers have been asking me which one I think is the best. So in this review video, I put both beach shades to the test to show which beach tent I prefer to use in various situations at the beach.

I bought the Cool Cabana. I was replacing a 10’ by 10’ canopy style tent you see all the time that are big and heavy. I chose the cool cabana even though it’s a little smaller because it light and easy to set up. I haven’t tried the sun ninja, but it was seriously considered. I passed because of the large footprint and having to face it into the wind. I want to face the ocean. Your videos were very helpful. I’ve bought a lot of gear based in part on your reviews and it’s made my beach trips much more enjoyable

We got the cool cabana last year and we love it! Gave us good shade and very easy to set up and take down. We also got the grass kit and used it for our neighborhood parties. It also held up well on a windy day. We get so many compliments on it.

Love my large Cool Cabana. In fact, just bought their beach mat to go under it for the upcoming season. Although most times i am at the beach alone and just use an umbrella

Ahhh yes! I've been needing my fix of Beach Gear Guy! I'm on the fence if I should go Sun ninja or Neso Gigante. I'm thinking about going neso but all that to say thank you for giving me to "tools" to helping me make my decision!
Thanks, George! Great to hear from you! Yeah. The Neso is great. The Wekapo inflatable lounger company is getting into the beach tent business, and they just sent me a few of them to review. The beach canopy business is now crazy competitive. There are so many beach canopies on Amazon now, and many of them are the same, but they tell me they have a new, innovative design. We'll see.
I bought our cool cabana in July of 2021 and have never looked back except to try to sell my solid navy for the multi floral print... I've gotten so many compliments and it holds up in the wind. We are locals for the Great Lakes Grand Prix and 2022 was a crazy weather day for it. I had about 7ppl huddling under my cool cabana sheltering from the intermittent rain & wind. My only issue is it's not waterproof... It gets wet but doesn't soak through but I'd like to have it bead off... Some friends that love it suggested spraying it with a product like Scotchgard rain & water spray for patio umbrellas. Overall I absolutely love my purchase as I'm a mom who usually goes to the beach solo with kids in tow.

Great video and very helpful! I bought the Sun Ninja a few years ago because its compact size and light weight. I wanted to be able to put all of my beach gear in one backpack and I was able to do that with a small size, even with extra poles. It worked well with one important note... when the lycra is stretched, while you may be getting shade, you are still getting UV rays. BE CAREFUL! I sat under the SN for the entire day and got a significant sunburn, despite the spf50 UV rating. For this reason I was considering a cool cabana. I guess there is no real way to test the SPF of these shelters.
Thanks for the info Scott! The UV rays can also reflect off of the white sand and the water and bounce into the shelter. That's why I always use sunscreen and wear my really cool-looking hat.
Also if you’re looking for ideas. A lightweight table. I got a camping table that has worked well so far. Lightweight and collapsible to fit in a bag. I also have a 25quart igloo retro picnic basket cooler that is great for food. I get compliments every time I take it. Makes a nice table or kids seat as well. Comes in some awesome color combinations. I use a backpack cooler for drinks.
Would you happen to know the brand name of your camping table? I used a foldable Rio beach table until I got my hands on the Octable beach table. @@BeachGearGuy it’s the Rugged Camp portable table. 18” by 22” by 16”. I got it because it’s light, compact and a good size. The octable looks very practical for the beach. I’m afraid it might get knocked over by someone in my crew though.

Beach Gear Guy season is here again! I kind of want to get my mom the Cool Cabana. I think it would be nice and easy for her. I have a Neso and love it but I think it would be too much for her to set up

We hit the beach often with our young family and a large 'red label' CoolCabana certainly seems to be the ideal, however... I simply detest the patterns (stripes, floral etc) - they are awful. I just want plain and they can't even do that without a navy or red trim...???? Bizarre.
I have found some large cabanas that are plain, however they are canvas, so a lot heavier and take longer to dry etc, plus they are heavier. I have actually today emailed CoolCabanas with this feedback. (If they did a cream or white plain large cabana, I would buy it.)

Large is the way to go unless it weighs a ton more.
I'm with you. The medium Cool Cabana is 13 pounds, and the large is only two pounds more.
Hey Matt! I got a question for you. I have the original Otentik and love it, but I’m getting a little tired of it always having to be in the direction of the wind and it takes up too much space. I’ve been debating between the BeachBub umbrella and the CoolCabana. They’re both about the same price. They’re both about the same level of effort to assemble. And both seem about the same quality. I have a family of four-two adults two kids. I feel like I would almost need two of which ever product I choose. Which of these do you recommend the most-BeachBub or CoolCabana? I honestly can’t make up my mind, and part of me just wants to buy one of each lol. Thanks!
Thanks for the question, Jeff! Between the two beach shades, if it's not a crazy windy day, I think you'd like the large CoolCabana because it provides more shade than the BeachBub.
The Sun Ninja would be obnoxious on a busy beach. It takes up entirely too much room.
Yes. Beach tent canopies do take up a lot of space on the beach.
I guess my concern is at 20 seconds in, you're completely in the sun. Big space but barely any shade.
