  • This isn't really a huge debate, but it has comes up sometimes in the nursing community, should you or should you not keep a LPN license if you are now a RN?? One would think that it's a clear NO, right? The answer can be yes and no depending on your nursing specialty, your experience and the work settings you are in.

    I'm located in FL and I'm an LPN and I make more than my RN friends. I even do agency for the hospital and still make more than the RNs. I work on med Surg and I must say the RNs ask for help all the time. They run around w their heads cut off w 7 pts and that's a walk in the ball park for me when I'm use to 30+ pts at one time. As an LPN in FL u can work as a CNA and don't need your CNA license to do so. As well as RNs picking up LPN shifts. RNs trump everything so you don't need to hold onto your LPN or CNA to work as one. I know I'm always working as a CNA and I don't have a certificate. It would be a waste of money in FL if you're an RN and keep your other credentials

    Hey!! On the one hand, I understand why some would keep their lpn license. I let mine go. Personally, I won't work for less than I feel I deserve now that I have my RN. But to mitigate the shortage of RN shifts at times, I work for more than one agency bc different companies have contracts with different facilities. I also pick up med surg shifts, psych shifts, etc and I'm even willing to drive an hour or so to get that higher pay. To each their own ❤.

    I agree. Just like during covid there were a lot of LPNs working under their CNA certification because CNAs were getting paid more during the pandemic than most LPNs because they needed more RNs at that time. I just let my CNA expire in IL. I'm currently an LPN. You just made me want to keep my CNA in other states just in case. Then once I'm an RN I'll let the CNA go.

  • @Nursemtv
    @Nursemtv 4 месяца назад

    You should for sure keep it for $60!! In CA we pay upwards of $300 for the renewal plus CE units so I’m not 100% sure I’ll keep it once I get my RN in a couple of months. I also don’t know for sure if we can hold both in California….

      @@yourfavnurseb9699 @yourfavnurseb9699 Thanks! I plan to move on to a new job. Just as you mentioned in your video, some jobs rather have an LPN (pay them less) and have them do RN work. I am currently facing this at my job. It seems as if they don't want me to move up although recently RNS has resigned. I will be looking for a job that appreciates my work and me going above and beyond.

      Hi I don’t know enough about different agencies. I know shift key, shift med, integrity and that’s about it. It also depends on your region too. I suggest getting into a travel or agency fb group for nurses and get advice there. You can also ask nurses that you know too. The biggest thing is knowing how and when you will get paid. Good luck.
