I was maybe 9 when I found the CD version at a relative's house and it was like a second Christmas finding out there was an extra song on the album. And it was amazing AND he made a video for it! One of my all-time favorite pop songs, not just MJ's
Man do I miss MJ. I saw that Motown 25 performance live on T.V. when I was I kid and it was like the greatest thing ever . What impressed me about Michael the most was that his albums would have every song on there excellent and could be a hit on it's own including the unreleased stuff. No other artist could done that, especially on a consistent basis like he did. Thriller will always be his biggest success but if you listened to both Bad and Thriller without all the media and popularity influence Bad was just as good as Thriller if not better. The new music that we have today though some is good just doesn't compare in quality and production to this older stuff.
The chorus has 3-4 layers of crescendo. Also all or most of Michael's choruses are by himself! The trumpets are signature 1980s tradition. His doing the "tappa do.. tappa do..." is repeated again in Remember The Time. Since Tabloid Junkie (History album 1995) and Price Of Fame (Bad album 1987) share similar theme of paparazzi, it'll be wonderful to watch your reaction to them.
What I find most interesting about his voice is the development throughout his career, as a youngster opting for natural vibrato then as he progressed through his adult works he utilised so much contrast in character and technique, his long held notes aren't using natural wide vibrato or any vibrato at all. instead he shifted to quick almost tremolo "fake" vibrato mostly on shorter notes.. Genius.
