Michael’s voice just blows your socks off every time you hear him. He sang the heck out of this song. Even though the original session was recorded slower (as far as I know), he could still hit the notes he did in the final version. He even did live. As he got older he struggled more with his voice, but still had his undeniable vocal abilities, just not as consistently as he did when he was younger. I also heard he suffered a lot from exhaustion in his voice along with chronic laryngitis later on. His voice is one of a kind and iconic until the end of time as far as I’m concerned. Thank you Chris for doing these videos. Can’t wait for you to go back further and dive into the Off the Wall album sessions. Rock With You, etc. In my opinion that was his best era. 😄

However, new jack swing had taken off and Janet was also starting to get head of him a year or two later. Hence the dangerous album without Quincy Jones
Actually Quincy had minimal involvement w/ the Bad album. It's been said there was already tension in MJ & Q's relationship since Thriller which got worse during Bad, but MJ had to fulfill the 3-album contract they signed together. Doing Dangerous sans QJ was just natural progression on the direction MJ wanted to take, nothing to do w/ Janet or anyone else. Dangerous btw is NOT all new jack swing. I'd argue the 2nd half of the album, the NON new jack swing tracks, are stronger. Also saying "by the time he dropped Bad, sound of music has changed" doesn't really apply bc none of his songs could be put in a box anyway. Like "Leave Me Alone" isn't exactly regular "pop", neither is "Smooth Criminal", and both remain interesting pieces to this day
where in the world did you find this?!? I have a huge collection of Michael's multitracks, but have NEVER been able to find this one! Only the 5.1 moonwalker stems which are very poor quality. I know you probably can't discuss where you got it lol, I'm just blown away
Great stuff, Chris. Do you have anything on how to create a multitrack recording with video? For example, someone wants to record their vocal along with a backing track, and then create a video of them singing that vocal into the mic with the completed/mixed audio? What would you need gear-wise to do that, and how is it done. Cheers!
Wondering if it sounds a bit strange because the songs are actually recorded at a different speed. Heard something else you reacted to in "Leave me alone" and thought about that too. Maybe it doesn't matter, but that thought struck me ☺️ Original recording speed: ruclips.net/video/XzCtp90-OCE/видео.html
I heard they did this because the tracks needed to be compressed on to vinyl and to fit on the record they had to increase the speed? Something related to that. He could actually hit the notes he did in the final version. He did it live many times.
@@JordanX767 Yes, it has absolutely nothing to do with not being able to sing in that pitch. Many other artists have done it, both speeding it up and slowing it down. I think they thought it was just a cool effect 😊
@@JordanX767 it was recorded in this key but because back then you can only speed it up with the pitch going upwards theyve ended up in a key 1 semitone above the original. Hey Chris, love the videos..but my only grevience is that there's too much interrupting commentary which, for me, ruins the listening experience of these wonderful tracks. I wish we get to hear longer bits at a go..and the commentary is saved for later. Just saying.
I can't play longer bits or the video will be taken down by the copyright owner. I am only allowed to play in short bursts. I have had multiple MJ videos blocked and had to re edit them so that I would be allowed to keep them up. This format fits into fair use and is the only format the copyright owners will allow.

I have a friend who has a huge stash, and he JUST found this one and sent it to me... He as well, only had the moonwalker stems. So happy he found it!
@@chrisliepe that's awesome. I guess I'll be doing another scavenger hunt for it then!
Update: I found it :D

what audio interface are you using? looks so cool
Lewitt LCT 1040 mic with it's own interface/power supply going into an Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt!
@@chrisliepe thank you!
Great stuff, Chris. Do you have anything on how to create a multitrack recording with video? For example, someone wants to record their vocal along with a backing track, and then create a video of them singing that vocal into the mic with the completed/mixed audio? What would you need gear-wise to do that, and how is it done. Cheers!
I cover this exact thing in my "recording and production builder" inside this course: www.mymusicalvoice.com/p/sing-together-365-experience
Enjoy!
Hey Chris another amazing video! But can I ask what microphone your using in this video
Lewitt LCT1040
im pretty sure that this song was sped up. the original was a bit slower, because its sped up his voice sounds a bit higher
2:05. Huh. Odd. My 1987 CD release of the album _Bad_ sounds slower and slightly lower pitched than that.
Strange! Maybe they slowed it back down for the cd release. Some were sped up to fit on the vinyl
michael is like sonic the hedgehog in many ways
Theirs another version of it the original sped version then the one that’s sped up that appears on the bad 25 bad album
I would like you you to do blue gangsta
Wondering if it sounds a bit strange because the songs are actually recorded at a different speed. Heard something else you reacted to in "Leave me alone" and thought about that too.
Maybe it doesn't matter, but that thought struck me ☺️
Original recording speed: ruclips.net/video/XzCtp90-OCE/видео.html
Yes, very interesting!
Michael recorded it B4 and C#5 on top what you hear here, but because of the speed up on the single and Spotify it is sung with a C5 and D5 on top.
Can you do a song from the invincible album
Great video.Billy corgan from smashing pumpkins please
Can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEAS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEAS PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSEEEEEEE do "Break of Dawn"??!!!!!
Yes!!
I love and appreciate the commentary
where did u get these brooo
