No, Mr. Barber of the Financial Times, you cannot reasonably assert that the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas on Israel is the central defining point of what is going on now in this conflict. The two central defining points are 1) the longstanding Israeli occupation and oppression which has brutalized the Palestinians and led to the emergence of groups like Hamas to begin with, and 2) the Israeli retaliation to Oct. 7 which has targeted civilians under the pretext of targeting Hamas militants, and which strongly suggests a pre-existing plan by Israel to ethnically cleanse the territories it occupies one way or another.

Quote on the Mondeweiss website: Is it not curious, one might ask, that the very sympathy shown to Palestinians appears directly proportional to their perceived inability to confront the uniform machinery of settler colonialism? There is a hidden gratification in witnessing this tragic narrative from afar. Israel’s persistent upper hand serves as a powerful catalyst for Western intellectuals’ feel-good sympathy, a kind of pseudo-solidarity that whispers to Palestinians: “We are with you, but only so long as you remain tragic victims sinking graciously into your own abyss.” One might even argue that this sympathy is contingent upon the Palestinians’ maintenance of their tragic status quo. Western people only support the Palestinian cause when the Palestinians are being massacred, but if they dare to resist with violence, then we must condemn them and dissociate ourselves from them.
There is nothing resistance-based about what Hamas militants did on October 7th. It was barbaric provocation, and anyone with the capacity of critical thought can clearly see that it completely set back moderate Palestinian resistance efforts. Being able to recognize that is an absolutely vital step for any voices of reason in the region to have an honest reconciliation in the future.

Is it not curious, one might ask, that the very sympathy shown to Palestinians appears directly proportional to their perceived inability to confront the uniform machinery of settler colonialism?
@@daviday87 more than 300 soliders have been killed on October 7th and we don't know exactly how many of the 800-900 israeli civilians have been killed by "friendly fire". You should read the article about the events of October 7th on thegrayzone "October 7 testimonies reveal Israel’s military ‘shelling’ Israeli citizens with tanks, missiles".
The state of Israel has been very good at constructing a narrative allowing him to present Hamas as Nazis and justify the destruction of Gaza.
I keep hearing that Hamas wants to get rid of Israel but what has been happening in Gaza makes me think that the Israel government wants to get rid of the Palestinian people their needs to a change in the Israel government
A terrorist organization against a terrorist state. Depressing.
How can you justify the killing of innocents on Oct 7? An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth?
Hamas only attacked israel occupied palestine¬
on israel .
Trollollol
TRUE,
So what is there are tunnels under hospitals. Put yourself in their shoes, what would you do.
Only a person who has no idea how the Palestinian economy works can say that Hamas ill replace Fatah as the head of the PA. The PA is pretty much a third of the Palestinian economy and is fully funded by foreign donations. How many donations do you think will come from the west to a PA headed by Hamas? The Palestinian economy may well collapse.
Superb Informative India, Thanx ❤
“Aqsa Flood” is sad, and tragic … but the goal is just embarassing Israel, sooooooo very much, that when the dust settles, they give Gaza full citizenship. Hamas is fighting to lose, stalling for time. We all know who wins the fight, goal is winning the peace.
Allah Hu Akbar bless you all Muslim brother and sister please
Why isn't Allah helping Palestinians
The topic seems to be for supporters of hamas like upa and the media associated
Israel already lost this war today most isolated country in the world it’s Israel
Hahaha.. You call The Wire " Fearless journalism" .. That has to be the joke of the year.
Graund operation started on 27 of October but pro-palestiniens démonstrationd had started on the 8 of October - the very next day after Hamas "operation". What sort of pictures they managed to see?
The British guy supports the Colonialists, what a surprise.😮
☝️… correction- “it’s STATED- goal”… let’s not get entangled between THE REALITY and their obfuscation(🇮🇱s)…
I can't help but feel that Mr. Barber seems prejudiced towards Israel and the narrative of his government.
There were too many interruprions in this interview. At least 6. 32:08
I'm guessing that's why the questioning wasn't effective and the conversation was painful.
Whatever has been presented is excellent. 29:20
This guy doesn't deserve to be heard. He's simply parroting the Israeli line.
Not a great guest on this occasion, mR Babers bias was evident not fun when u are a journalist of repute
