Avi Shlaim has such a sweet and gentle energy that I just want to hug him and thank him for showing me that real human decency truly does still exist in humanity.
Ihe moment in the interwiev that made me smile is when Professor Shlaim said that he sees hope in the disconnect between people and their goverments in the west. For anyone reading this: stay accurately informed and please spread the word to whomever is interested and wants to hear ! Your voice matters ! Justice is needed and the truth will set us free.! Peace and prosperity to all people, especially our dear Palestinians! Greetings from Croatia ! 🇭🇷 🇵🇸
The truth is that the Arabs and Palestinians have started every war, and then claim victimhood when they lose. No justice there eh. Palestinians put down their weapons we have peace, Israel puts down her weapons and we have a holocaust.
Prof. Avi Shlaim is one of the most honest historian that I know. Thank you Mr. Shlaim for your great services toward piece and humanity. I was born in Lebanon. As most of Lebanese, I have witnessed and suffered many awful atrocities caused by Israeli occupation and actions in Lebanon. Too sad to see that the media is blindly supporting Israel and its occupation policies. I want to thank Mr. Thapar for your interview with Prof. Avi Shlaim and grateful for the opportunity to listen and to understand the behaviors of the Israeli government. These types of interviews and conversations help audiences/viewers to validate the ongoing conflict into perspective with the events of history since WWII. It will be helpful if you can invite both PM Netanyahu with Prof. Avi Shlaim together to make sure Natanyahu learns true history and realizes his criminal actions against humanity. Really appreciate Mr. Thapar great efforts you have been doing on past and current Israel/Palestine conflict.
Dear Mr. Thapar, I am from Salzburg Austria. In Austria the mainstream media is supporting Israel entirely. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your interview with Prof. Avi Shlaim. I am totally impressed and grateful for the opportunity to listen to it. It gives me so much hope in humanity at last.
I visited Salzburg recently. A beautiful place. True, professor Avi Shlaim is very knowledgeable and is the kind of person who can share the true scenarios happening there and also the history.
If you want to know the reason the West supports Israel, you must look far beyond these shallow land squabbles & sectarian conflicts that have dominated MENA for millennia. The bottom line is that the West & its allies (including around 3 billion cultural/ religious Christians) control the balance of wealth & power in the world. Israel is appointed custodian of the holy land. In exchange for aid, trade & protection, Israel is tasked to maintain secular democracy, keep the sacred sites safe for tourists, & serve as defense ally providing intelligence & nucl deterrence to conflict among MENA factions. It’s the ONLY democracy is MENA and it’s vital for the interests of the West.
Israel's only fault is that she traded land for peace. During truce, troubleshooter built up,consolidated to wage another war. The conflict began between arab and Israel in 1940's to begin with. Arabs got vast land of jordan and Israel got the smaller piece of land and they said deal done for peace. I don't agree with the prof. Golan heights is the peak to monitor any troubleshooting from neighbourhood. Prof should have known when many arabs ganged up in six days war to destroy Israel completely. Palestinians never chose somebody who is for peace. They chose hate against jews always. Be it plo, hamas or fatah. And, therefore, one sees the self perpetuating chaos.
It blows my mind when we go back a couple thousand years to see what God said about how was supposed to get what. I do see that as a reason to separate church and state.
I respectfully disagree. Just wondering if you have seen the short documentary "The mystery of Israel solved" it's on RUclips. There are several documentaries on this subject. Hoping more Christians will understand why he asked us to pray for Israel and the Jewish people. There are many that claim to be Jewish but they are not and the one not are creating the right left paradigm. This is one of the great deceptions. Just like here in the United States there is no right or left or Democrat's and Republicans they are nothing more than puppets for the Satan worshipping billionaires and trillionaires that are behind all wars, the one world government agenda, the UN and the CDC. From the 65 year old carpenter ☝️ Keep looking up!
Yes. The Zionist project is based on a narcissist sense of entitlement. It's toxic in its foundations. Israel has manipulated the USA, UK and Europe into supporting and upholding the mirage by criticising anyone that criticises it. Its militarised people are paranoid and sensitive, but Israelis are censured if they notice what's happening and speak out. It won't change unless we push our governments to make Israel change. It's appalling.
@@summerintherockies9530 Maybe you should read, and you will Find GOD did not promise the JEWS anything, they did not exist until they were invented by the UK/USA in 1500's. Better also see the reason to seperate demonic from humanity as well. Blessings
Hello Karan, this was one of the best interviews on Israel-Palestine conflict. Thanks a lot!! Would it be possible to have an interview with Amira Haas?
As UN Secretary General said " The Hamas attack did not happen in a vacuum". 16 years of siege was the main reason about which no one in the world doing anything about it. Hamas attack was a breakout from the open-air concentration camp.
The killings and meham started in the 7th century still continuing unabated! Apartheid against non muslims especially Jews is Scriptural, duly codified.
Trevor Noah did a thoughtful interview on this, in sharing that Israel is the big brother (just from the standpoint of them being much stronger), and just because your younger brother hits you, it does not mean the bigger brother hits them back with their full might. That is what his mother taught him.
@@chander3338 there were a lot of reasons why Oslo agreement failed. The Israeli View: From the perspective of many Israelis, the dynamics of Israeli-Palestinian relations since the signing of the Oslo agreement confirmed their worst fears: that the Oslo process would give a militant enemy the tools and launching areas for bloodthirsty terrorist attacks against Israelis. Very early on during the establishment of the security services of the Palestinian Authority, it was noted by Israeli observers that the number of Palestinians in arms and the types of armaments being brought into Palestinian Authority territory were significantly exceeding the limits established by the agreements. This led to the suspicion that Arafat was constructing an offensive army rather than a police force. But the greatest Israeli anger was elicited by the fact that the Palestinian Authority was doing very little to prevent terrorist attacks emanating from its territory. It refused to take steps towards disarming terrorist militias, permitted terrorist organizations to operate open offices in its territory, and either refused to arrest terrorists or would adopt a policy of “revolving door” arrests-placing terrorists in prison for a handful of days and then releasing them. As terrorist attacks against Israelis exacted a heavy toll in civilians killed and wounded, the entire conception that had been presented to Israelis - of the Oslo process creating efficient Palestinian security teams that would be better than Israeli soldiers in combating terrorism - collapsed. Palestinian explanations that they “couldn’t be expected to be collaborators and fight against their own people” rang hollow to Israeli ears in the face of civilian deaths. Many incidents caused the Israeli public to wonder whether Arafat and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) had ever truly intended to lay down arms and seek negotiated peace agreements rather than armed struggle: immense arms supplies to the Palestinian Authority were made public; captured documents indicated Palestinian Authority support for terrorist infrastructures; and Palestinian policemen took up arms against Israeli soldiers. For Israelis, this was the ultimate breach of agreement, rendering it moot. The Economic View The economic reconstruction of the Palestinian territories was to be handled by internationally respected Palestinian economists and businesspeople working along with the World Bank and enjoying the financial support of Western donations. Toward this end, as early as November and December 1993, potential donor nations were gathered to commit large sums of money and an organization that was supposed to oversee the new Palestinian Authority economy-the Palestinian Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction (PECDAR)-was formed. These plans were halted by Yasser Arafat. Arafat regarded an independent and authoritative organization such as PECDAR as a potential threat to his power. The entire World Bank vision for a modern, Western-style Palestinian economy, built around competitive markets, transparent and accountable public bodies, and solid financial and legal institutions, went against the grain of the methods Arafat had used to run the PLO for decades. Those methods, instead of the World Bank and PECDAR paradigm, were imposed in the Palestinian Authority. The economy in the Palestinian Authority was since its inception run as if it were a syndicate, with monopolistic control over sectors granted to individuals or institutions in return for “percentage kick-backs” paid to authority figures in a pyramid going all the way to Arafat’s office. These public figures operated under no requirement to make use of the funds at their disposal, whether public money or “kick back payments” in an accountable or transparent manner -a state of affairs generally called “corruption.” Donor money, instead of being invested in infrastructures that could support future job growth, was used to cover salaries for teachers and police officers, which translated into a potentially never-ending dependency on donations-because cuts in donations could threaten the collapse of the entire system. As the Palestinian Authority lacked any clear legal protections for economic activities, private investors refused to come near it. The more terrorism mounted, the firmer Israel became in sealing its borders to Palestinian job seekers. The Palestinian economy went into a downward spiral. By the time the second Intifada led to permanent Israeli closures, choking off all trade, it went into a coma. Observers in Washington have concluded that the Palestinian Authority was a “failed state”
I always felt the conflict was just too complex for me to even have an opinion. I can see it was a bypass and I was avoiding looking at painful things. Thank you so much for the education. Now I can also have talks with my young kids to make sure they don't rely on the mainstream media storyline ad I did for years.
@@davidvita Really, it was an educated opinion, and it is known by many who know how to read and listen, and have turned off the IDIOT BOX, USA/UK and the stupidafona, and listen to people from all sides, BTW why do you think Israel turned off the IRON DOME, SATELLITES, SECURITY and stood down the IDF for 7 hours on 7 Oct? Or do you think this was a coincidence? ALSO, there is a very wide separation between Jews and ZIONISTS
Beautiful historical lecture. In fact, it is the most truth telling description I ever heard sinc the beginning of this conflict. Not that I didnt know it but it is amazing how intellectual figure such as this beautiful professor with his poetic lovely voice laying it down. People and leaders around the world must submit to this wisdom if they want to save our planet from a disaster. Professor Avi Shalaim, please accept this sincere respect and regards from me as a muslim person who is hurt to see this horrific blood shed of innocent people; jews, Christian, and that of muslims.
Such words, poetic and meaningless. I doubt that you give a shit about anyone in this conflict, including Muslims. Hate for Israel does not spell love for Gazans.
From what I've observed other Arab countries have never shown any love for Gazans or Palestinians. If they did the ongoing conflicts between Israel and the West Bank/Gaza would not exist. Kuwait threw out 360,000 Palestinians after the 1972 between Iraq and Kuwait ended. Yasser Arafat sided with Sadaam Hussein rather than Kuwait. The only Palestinians who were allowed to remain in Kuwait were those 60,000 married to Kuwaitis. At that time Kuwait and the Gulf States joined together and said they didn't want Palestinians to live in the Gulf States because the local populations were small. They wanted their wealth from oil to stay with native Kuwaitis and they feared Palestinians would start to demand too many rights and benefits. This is why Saudi and the Gulf States didn't take any Syrians in during the Arab Spring; Instead Turkey and Lebanon took a huge number in as well as Europe and Canada. Canada's federal government targeted single mothers and families with lower education and work skills to come to Canada. And now it will take at least a couple of generations to have them improve themselves enough to be on par education and job skill-wise with the average Canadian. For reasons I don't understand it has always been difficult for most even well educated/skilled Palestinians to get a passport and have the money to move to a western country as an economic migrant. Maybe they prefer to live in the West Bank or Gaza, or maybe other Arab countries don't want even the better-educated ones? I hate war and I hate seeing civilians die in them.
Not really there are others who will give you a history lesson on how this situation developed over a much longer time than this person is saying you just cant say {in modern times} about something that is centuries old about peoples who allways were part of that land long before any so called palastinian according to this historical context that was narated by some historians on the subject anyway ( i have not studied it and going by some people who have and written books on the subject but thankyou for the information and i hope we all learn something from this 💟☮️🛐🕉️🇦🇺🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇸🇺🇸🌹🌏🌻🌈🌈☔️☔️🙏🙏🙏
There are so many facts omitted here in the first 15 mins that I've watched I'm appalled. If you want a real understanding of this conflict, you need to go elsewhere for a balanced perspective and also need to look into the Sharia, the legal code of Islam Edit: this video is misleading and I can only wonder what agenda this professor has to omitt such important details.
Another fantastic interview....Avi Shlaim was beautifully interviewed by you Karan....thank you so much for continuing with your interviews on this terrible war
Thank you, Prof Shlaim, for your courage to tell and stand by your side of this conflict. I came to the same point of view and I am relieved and honored to share yours and Prof Chomsky's position
Thank you , Mr. Avi Shlaim , the world needs more human beings like you, you spoke the truth nothing else but the truth, clearly and softly for every lay men to understand.this is an eye opener for many many viewers . Thanks a lot,Mr.Thapar for this wonderful conversation. We ,the people of India owe you a lot.
Prof. Shlaim is a just, truthful and honest person who is telling the truth without any diplomatic words. His presence shines like diamond on this planet. Justice, rule of law, equality, equal opportunities, merit and human dignity can bring peace, harmony and prosperity in the world. Thanks
Sadly the lopsided Professor is a history denier and peddler of hate, but you already know that and that is why you think he is cool. I believe his lecture was cancelled due to a difficult case of heart burn.
@@Wawi633 I feel confident to assert that you have not read a single book by professor Shlaim. If you had, you would know that his assertions are meticulously based on research, from which he abundantly quotes. The only reason you reject what he says is because it contradicts your beliefs, which are political propaganda. Zionists themselves were surprisingly clear about the fact that there was a substantial Palestinian Arab presence in Palestine, who would not be convinced to relinquish their lands and would have to be forced to do it. Don't blame anybody because you are choosing to keep the blindfold over your eyes.
Thanks, Mr Thapar! What an interview! I doff my hat to Prof Avi Shlaim and you for my education and I am sure many fair-minded Indians would feel. no differently! I always believed high-handedness of Israel in dealing with Palestinians while I also looked forward to India and Israel relations. I wasn't that grown to understand the 1967 Arab-Israel war but have a fair recollection of the Yom Kippur War of 1973 when Egypt surprised Israel though later on Israel turned the table and how that war led to skyrocketing Crude prices. However, Prof Shlaim opened my eyes and that could happen because you brought him before us a former Israeli Soldier and now an Intellectual who could call Spade a Spade, some might see him calling Spade a Shovel. Thanks again!
Avi shlaim, and Karan Thapar courageous journalism, Bravo, truth is the last thing believed, Avi Shlaim as historian has brought many historian to shame...... who's bigotry, polity, exposed world wide
I am without words... Simply, simply... Wow. Thank you for this interview. Thank you for not shying away from asking such direct and difficult questions. Thank you for being, or at least in my view, trying to be as objective as one can be.
Hats off to Professor Avi Shlaim! A true humanist and loyal to nothing but high morality! I greatly admire you Sir! I can't express my gratitude enough to Mr. Karan Thapar in words! One of the best journalist I have encountered so far! Thank you Sir!
Extraordinary discussion filled with knowledge , clarity, boldness and with conviction of spreading truth and knowledge. Hatsoff to Mr Karan and prof Shalimar.
Very informative. Kudos to both Mr. Avi Shliam and independent Karan THappar. Appreciate tireless effort of Karan THapar to educate his audience. Keep going.
Excellent interview. Mr. Karan you are a great unbiased journalist. The guest is so calm and thoughtful and gave his answers briefly, truthfully and to the point. ❤
So, Indians should massively reject MODI the best friend of Netanyahu & Israël in 2024 election in order to prevent India to some thing similar to ZEONIST ideology, which has already began. THANK YOU Mr AVI SHLAIM & Mr KARAN THAPAR FOR THIS EXCELLENT INTERVIEW. 👍🇵🇸🇮🇳
Congratulations Mr Thapar! What an amazing conversation that brings the ongoing conflict into perspective with the deep understanding of Avi Shlaim. As a fitting sequel, please have Ilan Pappé on your show, sometime soon. A word of appreciation for the wonderful and important work you have been doing whenever an issue is on front-stage: Covid, Manipur and now Israel/Palestine. Keep going … Is it possible to catalogue your videos, subject wise?
This seems more than a little one sided to me. I am trying to gain perspective but tend to throw out accounts that paint one side as totally innocent and the other as the pure cause. This is NOT how thing usually are. I get very frustrated that it seems that nobody has a balanced perspective.
Very informative interview with Prof. Shlaim. Before the current conflict, I had a version of how the conflict came to be as I learnt in history lessons. However, after the 7 Oct attack, I saw every so often the claim by some Isrealis that Isreal pled for the Arabs indigenous to stay to build Isreal but they refused. Instead, they received orders from other Arab states so that they could join the armies to revive Palestine. Also, it was said that Isreal tried to offer the land back following the six-day-war but the Arabs just wouldn't leave Isreal in peace. It left me kinda confused thinking I must have missed something until I countered Prof. Shlaim's article Debate About 1948 and it shed a great deal of light on post-war propaganda on the Isreali side to make the nation out to be the ultimate victim of the situation and the Arabs are all predatory though there were attempts to achieve peace from three Arab nations right after the establishment of Isreal that got rejected by the then-Isreali government. What puzzled me somehow is that some Isrealis even denounceed the occurrence of massive massacres in the British Mandate Palestine culminating in the foundation of Isreal. No wonder some Isrealis thought that Palestinians are a bunch of barbaric tribal people who are just out to get blood. Some would even suggest that they were just a group of Arabs (completely generalise a people with distinct culture) so they should go back to where they belong. There is another myth that I encountered which didn't make much sense, they said since Palestine was never an independent soverign (which I already knew), it was up to Britain to decide who they wanted to hand the land to. The logic behind it seems somehow appalling, if the situation didn't occur in favour of them, instead the land was transferred to one of the European imperial colonist, it would certainly look very problematic to most of the people. I understand the atrocities that Jews had suffered before the foundation of the Isreali State but it is definitely a historical injustice to the people of Palestine.
Politicians love the AIPAC-like money. Academicians like peanuts-worth grants to support their graduate students to advance science/knowledge/understanding/...... Do you understand/appreciate the difference between the corrupt and honest people?
Professor Avi Shlaim you are such a Gem of a person, this world needs more people like you, hat’s off to you !!! Keep up the good work 👏 👏 👏 👏 God bless you.
Pretty enlightening stuff. The professor's views shed light on the different aspects of the issue which unfortunately is deliberately hidden behind the smokescreen of western media.
The British Empire created two problem in 1947 by it's divide and rule policy. Ind-Pak and Israel-Palestine. We are forever destined to fight due to the hegemonic and imperialistic attitudes of British and US in particular. Yet we don't recognise this and fight against each other.
Britain did have a ton of colonies, and in watching a lot of RUclips videos lately, I do find it fascinating that the victors of whatever recent conflicts came to the table to draw the lines and to hand out the land. But isn’t that how history has always been? And I did see that for the Zionist effort, they looked at Argentina, Africa and Palestine (with us all knowing which one they selected). At some points along the way, it looked like there could’ve been peace in Israel and Palestine, for what is a rather untenable situation.
Avi Shlaim is a honest historian who talks about real truth of between Palestine and Israel conflict. He is a good human being of The God. He doesn’t scare anyone and country. He enlightens with his knowledges other people. Allah be with him all the time.
Hats off to enlightened, courageous, selfless Jews like Dr Avi . He is epitome of objective humanist who doesn't mince his words to condemn his own nation & army. Salute to you Dr Avi Shlaim.
This is a fantastic talk about Israel state and the Palestinians. Very informative. Prof.Schlaim is one of my favourite historians. Excellent questions and excellent answers. Well done 👍
Hats off to Prof Avi Shlaim. Despite being Jewish he sees the issue dispassionately. He joins the group of so many other Jewish academics like Prof Noam Chomsky, Prof Ilan Pappe, Prof Norman Finkelstein, Prof Albert Einstein and so many others like Miko Peled, all of whom have very forcefully rejected Zionism and condemn the injustice committed against the Palestinians.
Noarm Chomsky is not very familiar with the Palestinian Israeli issue and he is a deeply bigoted person in general, who hates many groups of people around the world including Indians. However, I have a lot of respect for Prof Ilan Pappe, Prof Norman Finkelstein, Prof Albert Einstein. I have learned a lot from them and think they would be great guests for Karan Thapar to interview.
@@kakarot8856 There are many good muslims. The problem is the global extreme nonmuslim woke/progressives/left. Israel has 2 miillion Palestinians who are patriotic Israeli citizens.
@kakarot8856 trust me for centuries muslims have lived in India and Palestine. The time when Columbus came looking for India and landed in America was a time when muslims were running India. We have had issues and wars and there was never a peace in world since the beginning. But we have coexistence in peace until a bunch of greedy people didn't divide us in colors and class and for their own good.
Great conversation with profesor Avi Shlaim. Thank you so much for that quality time with you🙏🏼 It is important to talk with value of truth and humanity, not in interest of anybody, any country…
A fascinating interview...many thanks to The Wire for bringing such interesting and informative interviews. It's refreshing and important to hear other credible voices and views than state sponsored propaganda. And thanks to Karan Thapar for another excellent and incisive interview.
Stumbled upon this interview by chance.....thankyou Prof Shlaim for your insights, the work that you do and most importantly for revealing the truth...go well
Prof Avi Shlaim I love you💛🙏🏼 and thank you for sharing the truth with Indian media ..coz majority of Indians support Israel and they refuse to see the truth.. 🇵🇸💛 #freepalestine
Don’t worry.. although there is a lot of truth in this interview, it’s very one sided. He said he was ok with everything until Israel took and occupied land that wasn’t theirs after the 1967 war.. well guess what; under international law it is legal to occupy land of a neighbour if you are attacked.. there is a lot of context that has been left out for sure
Hopefully, you’ll recover and be able to remember & appreciate that at least in more normal, peaceful times, most of humanity, if not afflicted by trauma or psychological dysfunction, etc., are decent enough that you needn’t abandon all “faith in humanity”!
I have read several profound articles and watched excellent presentations that define the Israel/Palestine embroglio fairly. However, this interview with Prof. Shlaim tops them all with historical clarity and indisputable facts,. Again, I thank Karan Thapar for helping dissect yet another reality by interviewing Prof. Avi Shliam, who crushed the narrative of those in power who constantly sweep facts under the rug, with the help of the Western Media that they own.
Thanks Karan. This was a well conducted interview with Avi Shlaim, He is a gem and would love to see Avi being interviewed by other international media too. Hope Avi visits Australia or gets interviewed by the media here too . Also noted that this time, Karan, you allowed Avi to speak and not interrupt him as you sometimes do with long questions when others are talking (but then all Indians do that).

56 years of occupation .... this is the background to understand the whole issue of why the attack from the Hamas did happen on 7th of October. This interview is brilliant, very informative and helps to understand when and how all began. Crime on humanity can never be justified, from which side so ever.
Excellent analysis of Arab Israeli conflict .Superb interview by Mr .K.Thapar.There are still people like Mr .Shlaim who speak reality. There are countries who do not want real peace.Money n power are the real reasons not religion.
If Hamas is not a terrorist organization; who was attacking Israeli civilians. If their militant wing is killing civilians, political wing is responsible for their military wing’s actions.
Those who leave celebratory feedbacks here, please realize that Dr Avi Shlaim belongs to the extreme-left group of historians. This is from his page in Wikipedia: “Shlaim's approach to the study of history is informed by his belief that "the historian's most fundamental task is not to chronicle but to evaluate... to subject the claims of all the protagonists to rigorous scrutiny and reject all those claims, however deeply cherished, that do not stand up." That is, his main task as he sees it, is "not to be a chronicle" (not to be too strict with historical facts and events) "but to evaluate" (to carry out moral judgement). To evaluate historical events based on which system of values? Applying which moral rules? What you hear in this interview reflects Dr Shlaim’s opinion which he of course has all the rights to have. However, you should also understand that his views are found to the far left off the conventional academic mainstream in this field of research.
Only twice in Jerusalem’s history has it served as a national capital. The first time was as the capital of the two Jewish Commonwealths during the First and Second Temple periods, as described in the Bible, reinforced by archaeological evidence and numerous ancient documents. The second time is in modern times as the capital of the State of Israel. It has never served as an Arab capital for the simple reason that there has never been a Palestinian Arab state.
Bravo - thank you both for illuminating the historical detail which is in accord with Noam Chomsky’s account of the same history. No wonder the Palestinians have been outraged - with nothing to defend themselves aside from asymmetrical warfare .
Super informative interview. Succinct and to the point. Plus it covers details that get lost in the general discussion of this topic but are essential to have a good understanding of it.
There were many reasons for the failure of Oslo Agreement. We heard the Arab view in this interview and we must also know the Israeli view. Conflicts resolution researches tell us that conflicts might be resolved or minimised when both the parties feel heard and seen. This interview is gold 🙏🙏🙏 Such an in-depth, yet clear and understandable presentation. The only question it left open. for me is: What is the reason for the unconditiomal support of Israel be the US and EU?
The best, bold, and completely on par with international law discussions on this subject I ever heard. Thank you both of you, may God bless you both with a healthy and peaceful life. I'm going to support this channel with my contribution definitely for bringing out such important truths about this unsolved inhuman conflict.
The latest antic by Netanyahu at the UN showing a map of Israel including West Bank and Gaza as part Israel shows Israrel has no intention of recognizing Palestine as a state.
It’s funny isn’t it. There is literally a map of Palestine , showing all of its neighbours including Phoenicia ( now lebanon) . Zionists want to erase us Arabs, and make it about Zionists( pure evil regime). Free Palestine!! Love from Lebanon ;)

The balfour declaration was meaningless without the vote of the league of nations in 1923 giving britian a mandate to establish a homeland for the jewish people. Only then did the balfour declaration have relevance.
I really like your shows Karan. The guests you invite are subject experts if their fields. I know not all guests/researchers of yours can converse in Hindi, thus, could there be a formal Hindi subtitles for your interviews. I would really want my dad to listen to these excellent interviews of yours without missing any details.

I am sad there are civilian deaths on both sides. It sickens me. However, I have a couple questions. Before the six day war Israel did not occupy Gaza or the West Bank. Egypt occupied Gaza and Jordan had control of West Bank for many years. Why didn’t the Palestinians create a Palestinian state then. Also why was Israel attacked by 5 Arab armies in first place. It seems that peace is an unlikely scenario for the Jews in any border.
Israelis always was the aggressor and had manopoly of power, keep in mind the west power was always backing Israelis and the Arabs was weaker and the victims as usually Israelis main goals was take more land and demand by any means necessary but history will not favorite them and the will of freedom fighter in this case Palestinian will and shall be continued as long as the occupation and explosion and killing remained.
Find out and listen to Ben gurion's speeches back then. Also, his 'scheme' with the Jordanian King Abdullah. No Arab nation had any interest in the Palestinian lives, all they wanted was land and power, be it Israelis or the Arabs.
Mr. Karan performed an excellent interview with Prof. Shalim. Thank you very much! Prof. Shalim is a very knowledgeable and unbiased historian who is a source of pride for humanity.
Instead of harping on speculative interpretations on the Israely- Palestine war, what the professor has done is to point out the real, historical reasons for the conflict. And that too, being a retired soldier of the Israely Army, his truthful explanations of the present and past events are startlingly clear and transparent. Thank you professor for enlightening us on the subject.
Isreal is the size of Manipur State/Province in India. On the other hand, Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia have very big geographical areas where most of Palistanian can be rehabilitated. The Palistanian are ethnic Arab and they can settle anywhere in neighbour's Arab countries. But Isreal must give full political right to ethnic Palistanian living in Isreal like any other Jews citizen. The rulers of Isreal must not behave like corrupt Jews rulers in ancient Isreal. Palistanians deserve justice like another people living in Isreal or Gaza or West Bank. Iran must not interfere in this conflict and the Western countries must help innocent Palistanian.
Hi Judith ..... I agree but Palestine should go and settle in London because the British have been very naughty boys since 1917. If you are leaving your country, why not settle in Australia, UK or USA. It is very hot in Saudi Arabia 😞. I left India and settled in Australia. Now if only Israel, will allow a big cargo ship to dock at Gaza then the problem is sorted.
are you from the Indian subcontinent? @@ibrahimshadab1996 then probably you know that Hindus and Sikhs have had to leave their motherland because of Islamist Pakistan movement. In the Punjab, Muslims had to leave the Indian side as well. People have been rehabilitated and moved on with their lives instead of perpetuating a decades long conflict based on land claims. Same has happened with Palestinians in the state of Jordan. This Palestine refugee issue has been fomented by Arab states and now Iran for their own political motives.

The question that's never answered is in 67 and 73 these nations wanted to wipe out Israel .What would have happened if they had been successful as they easily could have been. The Arab nations lost and lost the right to dictate the terms
Lebanese ethnically cleansed Jews from Lebanon! This historian omitted so many facts in his biased account! What the F are you talking about?!
Same in U.K. and the EU. Even talk of imprisonment for supporting Palestine. Media seems to intentionally treat Palestine and hamas as one

Just wondering if you have seen the short documentary
"The mystery of Israel solved" it's on RUclips.
There are several documentaries on this subject. Hoping more Christians will understand why he asked us to pray for Israel and the Jewish people. There are many that claim to be Jewish but they are not and the one not are creating the right left paradigm. This is one of the great deceptions. Just like here in the United States there is no right or left or Democrat's and Republicans they are nothing more than puppets for the Satan worshipping billionaires and trillionaires that are behind all wars, the one world
government agenda, the UN and the CDC.

These issues have been raised by UN over a decade, but were veto by US everytime in support of Israel.
The elephant in the room is no one in the west wants to admit Israel is a failed state.
@@chander3338 there were a lot of reasons why Oslo agreement failed.
The Israeli View:
From the perspective of many Israelis, the dynamics of Israeli-Palestinian relations since the signing of the Oslo agreement confirmed their worst fears: that the Oslo process would give a militant enemy the tools and launching areas for bloodthirsty terrorist attacks against Israelis.
The Economic View
The economic reconstruction of the Palestinian territories was to be handled by internationally respected Palestinian economists and businesspeople working along with the World Bank and enjoying the financial support of Western donations.
These public figures operated under no requirement to make use of the funds at their disposal, whether public money or “kick back payments” in an accountable or transparent manner -a state of affairs generally called “corruption.”
Donor money, instead of being invested in infrastructures that could support future job growth, was used to cover salaries for teachers and police officers, which translated into a potentially never-ending dependency on donations-because cuts in donations could threaten the collapse of the entire system.

Don’t change your whole opinion about a subject from one RUclips video dude. Especially on this subject.
I’ll definitely rewatch this interview; it’s one the most informative ones so far, in what is going with Palestine and Israel today. Thank you.

@@Wawi633 I feel confident to assert that you have not read a single book by professor Shlaim. If you had, you would know that his assertions are meticulously based on research, from which he abundantly quotes. The only reason you reject what he says is because it contradicts your beliefs, which are political propaganda.

I would like to very much thank the learned professor for his timely and succint overview of critcial facts and information.
I really like your style of interviewing. Straight to the point without sensationalism.
It's heartening to see how you used your reason and fair mindedness to counteract the propaganda.
Great interview by Karan. His choice of guests on issues is excellent. It's always better to have academicians than a politician
Politicians love the AIPAC-like money. Academicians like peanuts-worth grants to support their graduate students to advance science/knowledge/understanding/...... Do you understand/appreciate the difference between the corrupt and honest people?

Pretty enlightening stuff. The professor's views shed light on the different aspects of the issue which unfortunately is deliberately hidden behind the smokescreen of western media.
The British Empire created two problem in 1947 by it's divide and rule policy. Ind-Pak and Israel-Palestine. We are forever destined to fight due to the hegemonic and imperialistic attitudes of British and US in particular. Yet we don't recognise this and fight against each other.
I am a Pakistani and I agree with you
Britain did have a ton of colonies, and in watching a lot of RUclips videos lately, I do find it fascinating that the victors of whatever recent conflicts came to the table to draw the lines and to hand out the land. But isn’t that how history has always been? And I did see that for the Zionist effort, they looked at Argentina, Africa and Palestine (with us all knowing which one they selected). At some points along the way, it looked like there could’ve been peace in Israel and Palestine, for what is a rather untenable situation.
Yet no one dares to fight with Britishers nor hate them like how fellow Hindus hate Muslims
Dr. Avi Shlaim is a wonderful wise gentleman , with a beautiful and calm way of reasoning, I wish you a long happy, and healthy life.

I feel (& like) your affection for Karan! 😊 This by far has been one of my favorite interviews by far on the current Israel/Palestine conflict, with Karan (India) and Avi (UK). I appreciated that Avi said the Balfour Agreement was not based on religion, but things have turned into religion since then.
even from judging by the way he talks, you know that prof shlaim is a man of integrity and conscience. his soft voice reminds me of einstein's voice in old films.
What a breathtakingly honest intellectual! Thank you, Mr Thapar for having sought him out.
Great professor Avi Shlaim is 100% correct and Anchor too
not really
Great interview! Congratulations both! 🌟
This was much needed- very informative and enlightening.
Excellent interview! A big thank you to the host and the guest for such an honest account.
56 years of occupation .... this is the background to understand the whole issue of why the attack from the Hamas did happen on 7th of October. This interview is brilliant, very informative and helps to understand when and how all began. Crime on humanity can never be justified, from which side so ever.
Thank u Karan for bringing the reality of philistine to light and Netanyahu real character
What a courageous and beautiful soul! May you be blessed, mister Avi Shlaim🤲
Excellent analysis of Arab Israeli conflict .Superb interview by Mr .K.Thapar.There are still people like Mr .Shlaim who speak reality. There are countries who do not want real peace.Money n power are the real reasons not religion.
It's religion also. Why else would they fight about a bit of land in the desert?
If Hamas is not a terrorist organization; who was attacking Israeli civilians. If their militant wing is killing civilians, political wing is responsible for their military wing’s actions.
Good interview. My compliments.
This great man made me feel great in a time we have seen sufferings on both sides.I hope these voices may make difference for Jews in Israel.
Thanks!
Those who leave celebratory feedbacks here, please realize that Dr Avi Shlaim belongs to the extreme-left group of historians. This is from his page in Wikipedia:
“Shlaim's approach to the study of history is informed by his belief that "the historian's most fundamental task is not to chronicle but to evaluate... to subject the claims of all the protagonists to rigorous scrutiny and reject all those claims, however deeply cherished, that do not stand up."
That is, his main task as he sees it, is "not to be a chronicle" (not to be too strict with historical facts and events) "but to evaluate" (to carry out moral judgement). To evaluate historical events based on which system of values? Applying which moral rules?
What you hear in this interview reflects Dr Shlaim’s opinion which he of course has all the rights to have. However, you should also understand that his views are found to the far left off the conventional academic mainstream in this field of research.
im sure the zionists has made a lot of effort to tarnish his name
This 100% true history of Zionist Apartheid regimes cruelty ,towards the Palestinians on their own land …❤❤❤❤❤❤
Gotta Love Emeritus Professor, ABI SHLAIM👏🏻♥️🌺👊🏻
Super informative interview. Succinct and to the point. Plus it covers details that get lost in the general discussion of this topic but are essential to have a good understanding of it.
There were many reasons for the failure of Oslo Agreement. We heard the Arab view in this interview and we must also know the Israeli view. Conflicts resolution researches tell us that conflicts might be resolved or minimised when both the parties feel heard and seen.
The Economic View and Palestinian Authority’s image of a failed state:
The economic reconstruction of the Palestinian territories was to be handled by internationally respected Palestinian economists and businesspeople working along with the World Bank and enjoying the financial support of Western donations.
Observers in Washington have concluded that the Palestinian Authority was a “failed state”
This interview is gold 🙏🙏🙏 Such an in-depth, yet clear and understandable presentation.
Really? Check the International Law, *Uti Possidetis Juris.*
Why don't you give counterarguments to each of his allegations and teach us the Intl. Law..?@@shainazion4073
The latest antic by Netanyahu at the UN showing a map of Israel including West Bank and Gaza as part Israel shows Israrel has no intention of recognizing Palestine as a state.
Israel belongs to Israel
@@GODOURSALVATION. time will tell
It’s funny isn’t it. There is literally a map of Palestine , showing all of its neighbours including Phoenicia ( now lebanon) . Zionists want to erase us Arabs, and make it about Zionists( pure evil regime).
Free Palestine!! Love from Lebanon ;)
A Scholar, historian, professor, public intellectual, Jew, served in Israel army, one who hold on truth, who else can give more reliable history than Avi Shlaim. Thanks Karan for this historic episode.
The balfour declaration was meaningless without the vote of the league of nations in 1923 giving britian a mandate to establish a homeland for the jewish people.
Only then did the balfour declaration have relevance.
Thanks
This has been enlightening! Thank you for bringing the most honest people on your show!
Takk!
I really like your shows Karan. The guests you invite are subject experts if their fields. I know not all guests/researchers of yours can converse in Hindi, thus, could there be a formal Hindi subtitles for your interviews. I would really want my dad to listen to these excellent interviews of yours without missing any details.
It will be useful if its urdu translation could be arranged for larger audiences. Thanks.
Just click the screen settings icon beside the [cc]. The auto translate language options appear. Click on Hindi.
I've just tried it out on this video. The Hindi subtitles are running.
May your Papa enjoy the details.🙏🙏
I am sad there are civilian deaths on both sides. It sickens me. However,
I have a couple questions.
Y will they leave their mother land just becus israel is forcefully occupying .
@@devapala879 stupid argument India was partitioned into two parts all of it wasn't declared Pakistan. And the Hindus and muslims who immigrated went to those respective parts not to some third country like Nepal Bhutan Iran Afghanistan etc.
Why should the Palestinian be displaced from their own land that’s the actual issue.
The question that's never answered is in 67 and 73 these nations wanted to wipe out Israel .What would have happened if they had been successful as they easily could have been.
The Arab nations lost and lost the right to dictate the terms
Very enlightening conversation - excellent.
Excellent discussion thank you so much for posting.
