I think that is plate. You can see the price is cheaper than common watch with solid bracelet.

I'm not clear how diameter measurements usually work in practice. So this is a 37mm diameter watch but with negligible crown. Does it mean it would have practically the same size as another watch that's 40mm in diameter but with a 3mm crown?

I find it sits at about 38mm all in all same as my other 38mm watches. It’s a pretty compact watch not too thick or too big
