    PertSnergleman's Review:
    --------------------------------------------
The tremendous run of Pat Cash through Wimbledon 1987 - in the final it was the R2-D2 of 80's tennis - World #1 Ivan Lendl...
In a world of big events, the late '80's had it all in Australia...
    -- World Expo in '88
    -- The America's Cup in '87
    -- Davis Cup in '86
    -- Australian F1 Grand Prix in '85
...but there was no bigger story Down Under in the late '80's than Patrick Hart Cash bringing home the bacon with a tremendous victory at the 1987 All English Lawn Tennis Association's Championships...
    Legend!

The moment of glory for Pat Cash. His talent deserved this grand slam victory

Cash really played the entire tournament the right way. He was very aggressive , took chances and with very few errors? it payed off big time. He was not afraid of making mistakes and wasn't overly cautious which actually produces errors. Good 87 Wimbledon pat!

I wonder what would have happened if connors had beaten cash in their semi final. Connors had dominated their head to head, including a straight sets win a few weeks earlier at Queens. Connors though was exhausted from his match with Pernfors.

Cash had another 6 months near-ish to the top and then really crashed. Injuries and drug use caught up with him and he came close to suicide. After a first round loss at the 1987 US Open, he reached the final of the 1988 Australian open, lost his Wimbledon title to Becker in the 1988 quarter finals, and then only ever reached two more fourth rounds in grand slams.

Lendl needed more finesse against all these wonderful grass court players. He tried to overpower all serve&volleyers with heavy topspin, and that strategy failed him. He played *exactly* the same way against Stefan Edberg at the 1990 Wimbledon, and the results were similar. Lendl only has one person to blame for not winning Wimbledon: *LENDL*

(Proper) grasscourt tennis is about improvisation skills, and that just wasn't Lendl's game.
He did as well as he could on that alien surface.

Lendl honed his serve and volley game to perfection in 1989. He was totally crushing Becker in the semi final and the rain came down. Becker regrouped and won. I feel Lendl would have won the final against an under par Edberg if he’d made it through (Edberg lost in straight sets to Backer that year).

Thank you for the great upload. I watched the match live on TV. Cash played his best in this tournament. Such a joy to watch two different type players (both one hand backhanded) fight for the greatest title in Tennis.
Would it be possible for you to upload the 1991 Final between Becker and Stich?

Lendl's poor serving ; not pushing cash wide either side , allowed cash to drive the return deep down the line causing lendl to be off balance all the match.

Like I always said he always struggled against a true grass court player who's serve and volley and all court game was to much for Lendl Pat cash played brilliantly all tournament and thoroughly deserved the Wimbledon title love Anthony Fed ex lol

They rematched at the Australian Open the next year and Cash won again, in a 5 set semi. Too bad Lendl never won wimbledon and too bad also this was Cash's only major win.

Mensch31 he played solid, nothing spectacular. Lendl knew this was his best chance and blew it. Cash did not make a single semi final after that and lost in straight sets to Becker the next year. Shows what Lendl has up against relatively.

I'm sure Lendl wishes he had played in today's era, when he might have won two or three Wimbledons.
Instead, he was up against against some of the best volleyers in history in McEnroe, Becker, Edberg and Cash.

I get yr point, but Cash was on fire the whole 2 weeks, no matter how well Lendl played, he was never going to win !!!
