    • @PierreRousselot
      @PierreRousselot Месяц назад

      @@patrickcooper7629 "shady yet bald fashionistas bloviate about" ... So the alternative is the abomination that is New Amsterdam? New Amsterdam itself is a product of "trendiness." If you are interested in saving money, surely there are better options. I'd rather drink one cocktail a month made with The Botanist than have a drink a day every day made with the orange-bubblegum-infused mosntrosity that is New Amsterdam.

    I always make a victory Negroni after successful mountain climbs... and until this autumn, I was using Tanqueray and Gibley for the gin component... but after I caught wind of The Botanist in a cocktail-making demo by "Japan's Greatest Bartender", I figured I'd give it a shot
    and OH. MY. GOD. It made the negroni SO MUCH BETTER. The Tanq and the Gib lent the negroni a kind of harsh and slightly unpleasantly astringent flavor.
    The Botanist smoothed off those harsh edges, and now the cocktail is stellar - the character of the gin is still there, but it's much gentler
    the premium price was totally worthit
    and it lends a little extra class to a drink made after a long day of shlepping around in the alpine wild

    Killed almost a full fifth of this tonight, got about one or two shots left. Safe to say, a terrific gin. Gin drunk is great, too, as you can still type properly, yet feel warm and as if you are in the 1800s while walking through the meadows with fawns gracefully dancing around the lilies. Thanks. Before I mix any liquor, be it scotch, rye, bourbon, gin or what have you. I attempt to drink it alone to see if I like it straight. So far, just about everything I've drank gives me chills and that awful sour face. But this Gin, the botanist, does neither of those and I love it. I can drink it alone, and soon I will be using it for cocktails and such. Not to say I'm not a fan of other liquor, I love rum and Johnny Walker. I just physically cringe when I drink them lol

      Hey Andrew,
      I’m exactly the same as you, I never really enjoy drinking spirits neat at all. To me tonic is the key to releasing the flavours in a gin. I was interested to hear about your experience with botanist though, I shall definitely be giving that a try this evening!

  • @Quicksilver_Cookie
    @Quicksilver_Cookie Год назад +1

    I started drinking my gin straight recently, sometimes with one ice cube. And let me tell ya - this one doesn't go down without a fight. It needs that ice cube to tame that attitude. It is wonderfully aromatic. Just sticking my nose into the glass and taking it all in is my absolute favorite about it. Very long slowly fading finish, which is warm and spicy, but not harsh. So for those who like to skip the tonic and take their gin straight or on ice - beware that this gin has a tempter. But only on that initial first hit, as soon as it's spread around your mouth it just melts and releases all those wonderful flavors. I really really like this gin. It's extremely pleasant and mellow in some aspects, but it has a quirk. And I find it interesting.

    One of the few 'fancy' gins I like. We have a lot of guys in California trying to do different gins but usually they are just so-so. I end up back with Beafeater. However Botanist is really good. BTW the embossing (if that's the word) on the bottle are the botanically (latin) names of the botanicals used.

    On the topic of artisan tonic, Navy Hill makes excellent products if you can get it in the UK (my apologies if you are unable to find it). My favorite by far is a Tonic-Club Soda mix, which has the perfect level of controlled sweetness for me (and, importantly, certainly not the chemical/fake sugar way of controlling sweetness). They also have a Juniper Tonic, which sounds like a weird idea, but actually pairs astonishingly well with floral-forward gins.

    To know the real quality of gin, first it should be tasted and reviewed without tonic and then a review with tonic in the same video all quickly covered, becouse some people like it without tonic and some with, just try to suit both categories to be a top gin reviewer, bc you are headig there if you manege these issues.
