    I struggle to call Hendricks gin. Just not for me. The Botanist is good, but I struggle to figure what it’s trying to be. It has a lot of botanicals in it so it’s very complex. Complex isn’t bad, but there’s a lot going on it. It’s solid though. I just prefer more traditional, London dry gins.

    I just started to enjoy and "study" gin this last year and your channel is awesome, i'm sure it's gonna help me a lot to pick up my favorite gins. Also, love the edits with pics to make things more clear and easy to non-english speakers, keep up the great work

      Gee, guys. I hope you can help me out then. Hendricks is my favorite of all liquors, but I've tried everything but still keep coming back to cranberry juice cocktail, strained through -20C ice before drinking it out of a very small glass

    Interesting My wife and I just compared Gin & Tonics with 4 different gins. (We're not martini drinkers). We compared Botanist, Bombay Sapphire, Plymouth, and Beefeater. All were good.
    Sapphire stood out most with a very slightly off after taste but still good. Plymouth and Beefeater were most similar and Botanist was the most floral and sweet where the botanicals other than juniper stood out. We decided we preferred Beefeater for GTs. It just came together for us nicely and it's the least expensive which is a bonus. I'm going to make some...right now.

    • @TimandTonic
      @TimandTonic  2 года назад +2

      Nice one! Yes indeed, Botanist certainly does have some floral botanicals in it which can come through in a drink - and has the most botanicals of all the gins you've listed so you're right on the money! I did a comparison of Bombay Sapphire with Beefeater and Tanqueray a little while ago too, and similarly Beefeater came out on top - ruclips.net/video/almbbPv-MYA/видео.html - Apparently great minds think alike!

    Hendrik's has been my favorite since I was 19. I was on student party cruise dead drunk and I vividly remembered getting Hendrik's cucumber gin and tonic, it was just so freaking tasty. I didn't buy it for years afterwards since it was expensive, but it still stuck to my head just how good it was. Now decade later it's only alcohol I keep at home.

    • @Kaotiqua
      @Kaotiqua 2 года назад +5

      @@Gallasl666 They're both excellent! Though, if you're a fan of London Dry, then Scottish gins might not be your tonic. I've always felt that London gins lean into the medicinal, where Scottish lean into the refreshment. They tend to be at least a little citrus-forward, bright and airy. But on the other hand, if you've never compared them, they might just change your whole idea of what a gin can be!

      @@Kaotiqua Hey thanks for the advice! I've got a pretty wide palate and am ready to expand my gin range. That Monkey 47 sounds interesting too but its a bit pricey. Maybe down the road. Im thinking Botanist will make a much more interesting Martini. Cheers

    Awesome comparison and I think it's great that the two most well-known Scottish Gin's (other than Gordon's ;) give each other such a close race. I also prefer the Botanist - mostly for being less of an enfant terrible in a very classic world. More alcohol is better for mixed drinks and let's be honest here: Who wants cucumber in their Gin & Tonic anymore? It's 2022. I am glad I like the Hendrick's bottle so much.

    started using The Botanist in my post-climb victory negronis after using tanqueray and gibley for a long time, and all I gotta say is
    WOW
    The Botanist really meshes well with the italian bitters and vermouth, and it's smoother than the tanq or gib. Even adds a bit of floral air to the drink that fits really well in the mix. Is definitely going to be my go-to gin from now on!
