I struggle to call Hendricks gin. Just not for me. The Botanist is good, but I struggle to figure what it’s trying to be. It has a lot of botanicals in it so it’s very complex. Complex isn’t bad, but there’s a lot going on it. It’s solid though. I just prefer more traditional, London dry gins.
I just started to enjoy and "study" gin this last year and your channel is awesome, i'm sure it's gonna help me a lot to pick up my favorite gins. Also, love the edits with pics to make things more clear and easy to non-english speakers, keep up the great work
Thanks so much, those are some really kind words, very much appreciated! I really hope we can all discover a whole bunch of amazing gins together, that’s my only aim!
Glad you’re appreciating the editing, it’s certainly been a big learning curve for me these past few months learning this new skill. Looks like it’s helping 😁
Gee, guys. I hope you can help me out then. Hendricks is my favorite of all liquors, but I've tried everything but still keep coming back to cranberry juice cocktail, strained through -20C ice before drinking it out of a very small glass
Interesting My wife and I just compared Gin & Tonics with 4 different gins. (We're not martini drinkers). We compared Botanist, Bombay Sapphire, Plymouth, and Beefeater. All were good.
Sapphire stood out most with a very slightly off after taste but still good. Plymouth and Beefeater were most similar and Botanist was the most floral and sweet where the botanicals other than juniper stood out. We decided we preferred Beefeater for GTs. It just came together for us nicely and it's the least expensive which is a bonus. I'm going to make some...right now.
Nice one! Yes indeed, Botanist certainly does have some floral botanicals in it which can come through in a drink - and has the most botanicals of all the gins you've listed so you're right on the money! I did a comparison of Bombay Sapphire with Beefeater and Tanqueray a little while ago too, and similarly Beefeater came out on top - ruclips.net/video/almbbPv-MYA/видео.html - Apparently great minds think alike!
Hendrik's has been my favorite since I was 19. I was on student party cruise dead drunk and I vividly remembered getting Hendrik's cucumber gin and tonic, it was just so freaking tasty. I didn't buy it for years afterwards since it was expensive, but it still stuck to my head just how good it was. Now decade later it's only alcohol I keep at home.
Here in sweden they are both the same price, might have to try both :) thanks for the vid
Oh wow, nice! I wish they were the same price here. If it was it’s a no brainer for me 😁
The Botanist is my #1 go to gin. To me it’s the cleanest, freshest tasting gin. Never had a headache the next day unlike some others.
Thank you that's good to know because most gins, except Hendricks, give me terrible headaches. I'll try to track some down here in Ohio
I'm a big Hendricks fan, but the Botanist blew me away.
100% agree with you!
Well. Excellent. I've been wanting to try an alterative to my typical Bombay Sapphire. I've been thinking about trying Hendricks but Botanist looks like the pick.
@@Gallasl666 They're both excellent! Though, if you're a fan of London Dry, then Scottish gins might not be your tonic. I've always felt that London gins lean into the medicinal, where Scottish lean into the refreshment. They tend to be at least a little citrus-forward, bright and airy. But on the other hand, if you've never compared them, they might just change your whole idea of what a gin can be!
@@Kaotiqua Hey thanks for the advice! I've got a pretty wide palate and am ready to expand my gin range. That Monkey 47 sounds interesting too but its a bit pricey. Maybe down the road. Im thinking Botanist will make a much more interesting Martini. Cheers
the botanist and citadelle's jardín d'ete have made hendricks (which initially made me love gin) a speck in the rearview
Have them both and this video came up to my feed as I’ve just started my gin journey and was already having botanist and fever tree when i started the video. I guess that my vote concurs with yours given my choice.
I love both these gins, but for me I prefer Hendrick's as I am primarily a martini drinker, and I believe it makes a smoother martini. All a matter of taste of course. Thanks for a really good video!
Hey Gene, thanks for the comment! Absolutely I can definitely understand why you would prefer Hendricks for martini, much smoother and easier drinking than the Botanist! There is a gin for every occasion and drink 😃
Fabulous review of two amazing Scottish gins. I am a fan of both but The Botanist is my favourite. I like the stronger ABV and I love the complexity of the botanicals. The Botanist is so delicious in many cocktails and I love a very dry Botanist Martini!! 🙂
I 100% agree with you here, botanist just edges it out ever so slightly 😁
@@TimandTonic Yup, right on Tim!! Cheers!! 🙂
I've had them both and prefer The Botanist, good super cold in a martini
Ooof, yes I agree. Sounds amazing!
Tangeray is produced in Scotland too, Ten is my favourite, but Botanist is awesome too.
I like both straight but prefer Botanist. Agree Hendricks is crazy easy to drink.
Awesome comparison and I think it's great that the two most well-known Scottish Gin's (other than Gordon's ;) give each other such a close race. I also prefer the Botanist - mostly for being less of an enfant terrible in a very classic world. More alcohol is better for mixed drinks and let's be honest here: Who wants cucumber in their Gin & Tonic anymore? It's 2022. I am glad I like the Hendrick's bottle so much.
Gordons was made in Southwark, London. A Brit of Scottish Descent 🐗
@@drinks.thinks aren't all Scots Brits? Let's avoid a discussion whether they like this and say he was a Londoner of Scots descent.
The Botanist is my go to gin
Absolutely agreed. Not tried Hendricks but The Botanist literally astonished me after Gordons and Bombay Sapphire
Definitely a big step up from Gordons and Bombay Sapphire! You'll never be able to go back again. I think you may just prefer Hendrick's over Gordons and Bombay Sapphire too 😉
That's good to know because I think Bombay is "perfum-ie". Hendricks is still my favorite. I've tried everything but still keep coming back to cranberry juice cocktail, strained through -20C ice before drinking it out of a very small glass
started using The Botanist in my post-climb victory negronis after using tanqueray and gibley for a long time, and all I gotta say is
WOW
The Botanist really meshes well with the italian bitters and vermouth, and it's smoother than the tanq or gib. Even adds a bit of floral air to the drink that fits really well in the mix. Is definitely going to be my go-to gin from now on!
Right on! This is a gin that has it all, and probably the one that started my love affair with gin if I'm completely honest!
Good Lord guys!! I'm a Hendricks guy that can't wait to try the Botanist
Love Hendricks... but Botanist is my favourite with ice and Fentiman's ❤
I think they’re both great- just different. You’re exactly right though. The Hendricks is less “edgy “. The Botanist has bigger flavor.
Very much agree with you! Both are nice, just my personal preference is the Botanist!
could u pls explain the edgy aspect of the botanist?
I love Hendrix. I think it's the best game ever made in the smoothest
The botanist absolutely blew me away. I like Hendricks, but this is just another level.
I also mostly smell rose and barely cucumber...in the Hendricks
Hmm, my Hendricks is 44%.
That’s very possible. The big liquor brands are known to bottle their products at different strengths for different markets!
Me too...here in Ohio
I’m a Hendricks boy.
As I yell when shit faced there can be only one which ever one wins has there corked removed by sword
Both are equal to me being more a whiskey man
Hendrick's is Jeanne.
i don't understand the botanist hype. It tastes almost the same as bombay Sapphire for 20$ more !?
"...drinking loads of this" hahhaa I imagine too 😁
I may not have imagined this and actually done it 😆
@@TimandTonic 😆
Do your maths pal. The Botanist is 11% stronger then the other. 4,6/41,4=0,111
