    Regarding playing all four sides of the first double domino that is laid down, Chris just clarified this to me that it occurs on every round of a game, even if it's not the first domino laid down, as after the first round that domino could be just a regular non-double, and a player afterwards could lay down a double, and that double is the 4-way playable piece: As he stated: "So the first double laid down in any round gets the 4 sided attribute, it doesn't matter if it comes after the first player's turn. That's the standard way to play by the rules, but sometimes house rules say otherwise." - Thanks Chris!

    We always had dominoes as kids, but no one ever showed us how to play. This is the first time I've ever seen the rules.
    So what did we do with all those dominoes people kept buying for us? (wow, I just had to look this up because I never knew the name for it!): domino toppling

    Thanks for the explanation... I've binged your videos and now have at least one app for every game you've covered. As a trucker, they're great for down time when I have nothing to do but sit and wait, so I have plenty of time to -play with myself- play games by myself.
    Do you see yourself branching into Eastern games in the future?
    Pai Gow is a game that uses a totally different set of dominoes (some casinos have it), Mahjong is similar to gin rummy and uses a set of tiles (cards exist), several dice games come to mind (Jhandi Munda/SEE BO/fish, prawn, crab), and a variety of games exist for Hanafuda and Kabufuda decks.
    If it isn't in your plans, then I hope it stays in your back pocket in case you ever think you've run short on ideas.

If the person who starts does not play a double, but rather, their highest pip-value domino, what happens when someone subsequently plays the first double of the game? at 5:16 isn't it better to keep the 3/5 so that you have more options moving forward?

    • @Play-In-Games
      @Play-In-Games  Год назад +2

      Perhaps if the laid out dominoes were different but in the case of what was laid out in this example, holding the 3-5 would give less options than more. For example if you instead played the 4-4 and your opponent played off of the 3 side of the 3-6 and left a number that was neither 3 nor 5 you would be forced to take dominos from the boneyard next turn.

    Great explanation of the rules. Thank you for that. I do have a question though regarding scoring. If there are still dominoes left in the boneyard, but neither player has a playable piece and must pass, how does the scoring work? Is that the same as the stalemate when all of the boneyard is used up?

    • @Play-In-Games
      @Play-In-Games  Год назад +3

      Yea, great question. As long as there are dominoes in the boneyard players can take dominoes one at a time until they have a playable domino, and they can’t pass until the boneyard is empty. Once the boneyard is empty and all players pass, a stalemate occurs and no scoring is possible. I hope that makes senses. Thanks!

    Hi, I’m new to dominos. Isn’t the piece you are moving due to no space at 3:51 wrong? Because its 6&4 and the piece after is 5&4 or doesn’t the order matter?

    • @Play-In-Games
      @Play-In-Games  8 месяцев назад

      As noted in the video’s description…
      Correction: At 03:58, there is an error with the 4/5 sequence; it was reversed and mistakenly played off of. If such an error occurred during actual gameplay, that move would be invalid. However, for the purposes of this tutorial, please disregard it as it does not affect the main demonstration. If this mistake bothers you, I sincerely apologize for any confusion.

    Hi! Thank you for the video. I have been getting into dominos with my buddy lately and we also play dominos the same, except players can also score by having a trail ending summation of dots being a multiple of 5. I hope that makes sense, but say the first player of the game lays down a 5-5, they also get 10 points. We also round points up or down to the nearest 5. Do you have a video on that domino version? If so, I would like to learn more about different strategies.

    An alternative way to start a game(instead of using the highest double domino) is to have each player pick one domino from the pile. The player that has the most pips(spots) on their domino starts the game first. The next player to the left of the starting player will start the second round, and so on moving in a clockwise direction(to the left). The player that downs(to start a round/hand) may play any domino they wish. This rotation of the start of a round/hand is called "rotate the down."

    My son and I play and there is absolutely no challenge. Just match the pips. It is easy and nothing fun about it. I’ve watched several videos to make sure I am playing the right way and I am. But no challenge.

      Someone buy this man a ticket to the Dominican Republic asap, he’s ready! (Try playing 4 person with 2 teams, for more complexity 😉)

    My family and I made an executive decision tonight to stop buying our weekly pizza from Dominoes., so tonight's ever-shrinking 6-slice pizza was our last.... GOODBYE FOREVER DOMINOES! I plan to tell as many who will hear on other platforms. All comments will be fully mediated
