Alabama reached 15 in a row over Tennessee with a 28 point blowout, but somehow it felt like an ugly win. Bama is still plagued by numerous mental errors and defensive breakdowns. These must get fixed for the Crimson Tide to win their division, much less the SEC or the national championship.
I agree, they're not playing in sync for some reason. It's like everybody's confused on what to do or just going through the motions, in hopes of not messing up. Sometimes a team can get so caught up in the process, that they lose Love for the game. I think they should just play the game with some excitement and aggression at times. Saban could have them so stressed out over maintaining legacy that they can't really relax and enjoy playing the game.
Agreed. I will say that "on paper" the win wasn't *that* ugly. Of the passing yardage that Tennessee put up, 166 of them were on three passes. Take away the mental mistakes that allowed those and Tenn. gets something south of 300 yards total on the night. It's frustrating to know how hair-fine the difference between a total blowout by Bama and, quite frankly, a struggle win this was.
I agree on all points. I will say the positives were outstanding 3rd down conversion rates for offense (15/20) and defense (2/12), Bryce Young is still being careful with his running but now not as hesitant to take off, Bama's penalties were way down this game, and Tennessee had absolutely no run game after coming into the game averging almost 250 yards a game.
Good points everybody. I think there are real signs of improvement that we can see here, and there's reason for optimism. I think the bye week is coming at just the right time, as McElroy said at the end of the broadcast. There's still time to get things fixed too. Next three games are against an LSU team in total disarray, New Mexico State, and an Arkansas squad that is much improved but will still face a huge talent disparity. We know that the margin of error for Bama in Jordan-Hare is usually razor thin, so I think Bama has these next four weeks to get it all worked out before having to face an unpredictable Auburn squad in what sometimes feels like a cursed environment.
Close game up until the the 4th quarter. As we get farther into the season, the amount of mental errors must be limited if we want to beat UGA in the SEC Championship and move forward into the College Football Playoff.
