That is just the best camper van I have ever seen. You definitely made the right choice. The only thing I have issue with is the auto box, but that's because I'm British. We just love being able to rev out the engine to accelerate and get up hills, and leave autos for little old ladies.
Finally, a fellow ‘87 Westy clone! Our “Roo” bus (I’m a transplanted Sydneysider with OZ/USA citizenship), is the same garnet red colour as yours with automatic transmission and power steering. I have thrashed shoulders - a stick is too challenging to shift, and without power steering, you might as well keep the shoulders lubed with cortisone! That aside, we also removed the fridge for more storage - much better use of space so we also have a portable. We have the original engine, though rebuilt at 280,000 miles with a rebuilt transmission as well. And yup, the original pop-top canvas is replaced with the same GoWesty as yours. Long haul driving puts my stomach in knots, LOL…I must be a glutton for punishment! At 14 mpg to the gal. and $6+ per gal; CRIKEY, eh?! But what the hell, despite Roo’s quirks and prop-plane interior noise as he struggles to come close to 65 on the freeway, the minute someone pulls along side me and flashes a beeg arse smile and a peace sign bigger than me steering wheel, my ol’ Hippy persona takes over and I smile back with a high better than the ol’ days diggin’ whitchetty grubs out of the red earth surrounding Uluru! Nice vid Lady Jillaroo!…you did good!..just subscribed! Cheers! :-)
Thanks for the tour. It looks like everything is nearly done and all you need now is some sound insulation, and a flux capacitor!😁
Haha! Unfortunately he'd never reach 88mph 🤷🏼♂️
That HUMONGOUS chest fridge that takes up most of the limited floor space would be the 1st thing to go 4 me. I like the original front-opening fridge. That BIG water jug would have to be replaced as well. I like you kept the original RED paint at least. Love the hanging wardrobe. 👌
It is really cool to see how much Clifford has evolved over the past year! I'm sure he is ready to go out on some adventures again soon, or at least after the winter!
On this episode of Cribs, Westy edition... :) Looks fantastic!
Nadine is such a lovable sweet cheerful character,I can see why she's married with children,a fun woman to vacation with, much love to you both 👍❤️🇬🇧
Clifford looks great! I just got a 1981 Westy 3 weeks ago and one of your older van tours ultimately led me to make the decision to buy it! Amazing car to own and I’m so excited to adventure in it with friends
That’s awesome 👏 welcome to westy life!
Love the build, Clifford looks great!!
...I've been watching your videos since when you were doing the VJ video search over 10 years ago wow! how time flies
It’s amazing how self-reliant you guys are. Awesome video
Looks amazing Nadine! I love it! I saw one driving past me the other day, but yours looks much better🥳
Glad to see you still have the van, that's what drew me to your channel in first place. I like that you have kept it fairly simple. Like M Power below I also have a 81 air cooled.
What a nice video my dear. It’s just superb, pretty enough.🤩😂
I am so thankful to you for uploading such amazing videos, which filled our heart with beautiful pictures!!!!❤🧡💯
So clever handling of the limited space. Very useful video! Thumbs up
Hey Nadine always love watching your videos 🤗
Super cool, love the build! We camped in BC / and in Tofino earlier this year and saw sooo many super cool van builds.
Yup, Vancouver Island is a Van Life hotspot. So many Westies and other cool vans over there
Great tour! it felt like airplane cabinet design to me, keep up the good work!
Westfalia's have so much charm! Such a fun and functional setup Nadine! 😊 🚐
Indeed!!
Hi enjoyed that video guys can’t wait till you got out on a new trip with ur beautiful new baby take care guys hope to c u on video soon
*All of that in that "tiny" vehicle is highly impressive* ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Looks awesome! You guys have done a wonderful job with your Westie.
Thanks!!
Nico😍
Hey, I want to say I have been watching your videos for quite awhile. You and Matt have inspired my girlfriend and I to start our own RUclips travel channel on here. We are going to both be moving from the east coast next year to Ottawa and then starting our channel from there. You have gave us a TON of great ideas of places and things we want to include in our channel as well. Mind you there is a lot we will be including in ours that yourself and other RUclips travel channels left out in your videos... (not going to give away our secrets LOL) But thank you for inspiring us. Love the tour of your van, I am looking to also buy a used camper van out here in Newfoundland for my girlfriend and I to use for traveling in for our channel.
Super dope van Nadine!
Oh we love your stove!
Glad to see the upgraded fire extinguisher. Maybe see if you can find a removable steering wheel like they have in NASCAR.
Hahah, I love this idea. Would be functional for swivelling the seat, but also hilarious
We miss you!
Love this video
wow cool van I love VW and been watching you for a long time good call
Great vlog thanks
westie life is the Bestie life
If you haven't upgraded to a T3 AntiSway bar, and HD links, it is well worth it. Makes driving on those lifted springs a lot nicer. Also the center console by VanLife is worth the extra money. Get the configuration with 4 cup holders. That way you can store two water bottles and two mugs/drinks. It gives you some lockable storage inside the van.
Former Nelson resident (lived there for 10 years with my wife) and proud new owner of an 88 Westy myself. Looks like my wife and I share some things in common with you guys. We're back in Ontario now, but looking forward to doing a lot of the same upgrades in our garage over the winter. Hope everything is going well with the new baby. Thanks for the awesome and super helpful content.
Thank you and congrats on your Westy! Good luck on your upgrades, we've been really happy with all the ones we've done so far. It's easy to spend a lot of time and money on these vans 😅
@@mattofstie9298 Yeah our dream is to have this van in working condition for our Kids when they're grown up. Assuming that's gonna cost way too much. I guess you guys probably don't have a lot of time for Westy upgrades these days. Looking forward to seeing the next project on here!
Thank you for the video
roof top & kitchen galley ❣️❣️❣️
Love this! Have y’all figured out a safe/good way to travel in your vanagon with your baby? We are looking at getting a Westy and have a baby on the way so not really sure how the car seat situation would work.
It looked retro and nice. I would divide it into small areas to restore or upgrade.
Nice Vanagon! We have an 86! I installed a new radio I think i was a waste 😂 cant hear anything when driving 😂
Arnold says-More power!
Yup! The road noise is a bit much, lol
@@mattofstie9298 Sound deadening and insulation really helps.
Looks great!!! If you can travel in a vehicle for long distances without paying for sleeping they are the best!!!
Very Beautiful 👍👍
Heard you shut the drivers door. I would suggest a insulation/sound deadening project this winter.
on the list of things to do fon my van.
@@charlesmaroon8819 It isn't that expensive and it gives you the chance to clean and re vapor seal everything, also the sound/insulation properties are a bonus. Plus it was fun to do. I used Nicor products. Cheaper than dynamat and just as effective.
i love yalls westie lol
I went with a Truckfridge because I still wanted the floor space. I use it for a shoe mat so the van stays cleaner.
Very nice
Hey Nadine, ur videos are really adventurous and entertaining.I am 18year old now, and I am creating a Bucketlist. Can you pls suggest something to add on it? 🙏
Here since 2016
Your video is very good
Sound proof those tinny doors and you’ll be happy you did. Cheap and easy to do for a great result.
Upgraaaade! :-D
Haven't seen Nadine since she was doing travel reviews and sleepovers with other RUclipsrs.
Have you been figuring out configurations for when you start camping with your little one or are you going to wait a bit before trying that particular adventure? :)
amazing=)
Are there seatbelts in the rear seat? Wondering how you will take your little guy with you next year. I'm definitely looking forward to your travels with a baby! I have a 7 month old and would love to travel
Some of the early T3's(1980-83) didn't have rear belts but latter models had lap belts and even later came with lap and shoulder belts.
Great to know how you guys are doing after a while. I'm particularly interested in your battery charger when you're hooked to shore power. What brand and model is it. We have a 90 Westy, and I've been looking for a decent battery charger. Do you have and auxiliary battery?
Rocky mountain Westy has a super easy to instal unit that works well. My aux battery is always around 13V.
We have a pretty basic low power setup. We do have a aux battery, it's just a lead-acid. Our charger is a NOCO Genius10 which can provide up to 10 amps of charging. When our Westy is parked we'll plug the van in and then the charger will trickle charge our batteries and keep them healthy over the winter.
We are thinking about traveling in the USA with this kind of a van. But where do you shower? We are from Europe and we don't know if there are a lot of possibilities in the USA. We know there are camping places. But everyone tells us, they are very expensive. So, how have you manage that an how expensive is it really?
Hey, how do u bring it to Canada? I would love to go to Canada for married my beloved but i don't know if is possible to go with my house on wheels. ♥️
HI5 Buddy, Happy Diwali:)
I liked the video a looot, I just feel it would be super cool also having a small bathroom inside, especially if you gonna travel with a child. But there is no space, I get it.
Yes, a toilet would be nice
@@heynadine Some use the space you put your fridge in for a portalet.
I like I like
Actually it is a pretty functional vehicle. Since it has such a large steering wheel, does it not have power steering? I think you chose wisely when looking for a camper van.
It actually has power steering! They only started getting equipped with it in the mid 80's so maybe they just didn't bother changing the wheel after PS became stock.
Power steering is nice but these are old vehicles and that is one more thing to repair.
@@johnkempf1808 This one has power steering. Typically the steering wheel is made smaller when a vehicle has power steering. I actually like cars without power steering. Gives the driver more of a feel for the road.
@@don-dspid2404 Mine doesn't have PS, ether. I've been thinking of an electric PS system but as I said, that is just one more expensive thing to go wrong for the small amount of instances where you wish you had PS.
@@johnkempf1808 I agree, i've also driven a couple Westies that didn't have PS and I don't think it's a big deal. Even slow speeds in a parking lot it wasn't difficult to crank the wheel. An ya, definitely another system to break down or have leaks.
This makes me wonder what you would do with a 15 passenger van.
Hmmm lol
where did u go to look for westfalia? and how much it cost you
We found this one in Vancouver, BC. It was $22,900
SoooooAdorableShe's😍😙😙😙😗😗😗
Is AC a must for a Westfalia?
Not all came with it. It is a must if you live in a hot climate but otherwise-your choice. Just remember that these are 30+ year old vehicles and they used R12 refrigerant which-if you can find it and a tec authorized to use it- cost over $120/lb and you need 5 pounds of it. Most people convert the system to R134 but that requires changing a lot of components.

37 mph

Hey nadine, where does your little one sleep?
Haven’t figured that out yet
Lemme know when you wanna sell 😘
Too soon?
That's far too cramped. I wouldn't sleep up in that bunk, but rather put our clothes up there and sleep in the back of the van.
Ya we feel the same way, we've only slept up there once to try it out. It's much better to use the top as storage space and sleep down below
Best thing to do is get one with blown motor for a better price and drop the Subaru conversion. VW is so Crap.
Go to work !!!!!!Still begging? Phew.
U have a baby?
Nadine, if you type in "ultraviolet fly killer" @amazon c.a you can buy a chemical free way to deal with flying insects/mosquitoes for $50-just plug in and all the insects fly towards it instead of you, gives you a funky blue light to. Hope this helps, much love to you both ❤️👍🇬🇧
