    I thought that the DR. Chipper is supposed to draw the tree in, after it is inserted, without the operator pushing it in!

      Thanks for watching and your comment! At the end of my video I mentioned that the knives need sharpening and/or replaced which would definitely help with self feeding. My chipper is a little older model as compared with the newer ones that DR advertises as self feeding. You will notice that the newer ones have the hopper at a more vertical angle than mine which helps with the self feeding statement from DR due to gravity. The downside is that if you watch any of their marketing videos of the larger chippers and the 3PH model, the person has to lift the branches higher (almost at chest height) to feed the chipper. This will become very fatiguing quite quickly if you have a lot to chip. Plus they use really nice 4 to 6 foot long "easy to handle" pieces of wood for the their marketing promotion. In reality people will not "pre-condition" the wood/branches to chipped like this. I'm not saying the DR is a bad chipper, it's not, but like ALL manufactures they highlight only the benefits of their product in their marketing.

      Some do and some dont, i borrowed one to chip a brush llll pile from a couple years of tree trimming work. The brushpile was dry and relatively processed already from loading and uploading from a truck or a trailer. The little machine would chip as much as I could push. It was very hard work to push a every stick into the blade. The vibration from the blade hitting the stick while pushing is virtually unbearable.

      @@X748SE Mind stating what you paid for this? I'm looking at a used 18 hp DR that has around 500 hours on it, asking price of $1700. 500 hours seems to be a lot for $1700.

      @@chris2790 Mine has a 19 hp twin cylinder engine, I believe that I paid about $1400 for it used about 10 years ago. Since I bought it, I installed a more robust frame and axle with actual springs on it.

    My Shelter Logic tent covers have only been good for a couple years at most. After the first 4 years I bought a replacement cover (at nearly the same cost of what the entire thing cost originally) and it failed 2 years later so I began to purchase a heavy duty tarp each year after for about $150. I was very careful to prevent or cover any possible snags or rough spots that could cause wear or abrasion but the covers would fail either from wind or snow load..I think the sun is the primary problem so between the wind protection and at least partial shade that your pines will offer, I think your SL setup should last quite a bit longer than mine!
    That chipper is a BEAST! And other than your time and effort - free mulch! I call that a win! Thanks for the video. I always look forward to your stuff! Be well sir!

      @X748SE  6 лет назад

      Thanks for watching and your comment Tee Jay! Where I originally had my SL the wind would beat at the front of it so much the it would split the zippers! As you said, having it is amongst the trees should make my SL last a few years.

    Good job! A couple of weeks I got a used front quick hitch for my John Deere x575 and I have a Case International Harvester BMX160 dozer snow blade that I will be modifying to fit on to the quick hitch. When I get a chance I will do a video review of the quick hitch.

      Thanks for watching Dave! Having remote control of the deflector is really nice to have as you can place snow exactly where you want it. I'm with you, I feel that the snow will be sooner than later this year in my neck of the woods somehow. Can't wait for the first big one!

    Good to see another video from you. I am surprised at the amount of branches you put thru the chipper versus the amount of material you had in the 17P. The chippers are nice machines to have. I saw the snowblower sitting out. Getting it ready I suppose. And..... I’m happy to report we’re a proud new owner of a x738, although I don’t ever see us having the nice attachments like you. The finance officer will most likely balk at those “requests.” Take care and have a good fall.

      Thanks for watching and your comment. Congrats on getting an X738! The3se X700 series are just awesome machines. Yeah I'm re-arranging the shed and getting the winter implements out front so that I can easily attach them when the time comes.

    Job well done. I have the DR 3PH chipper. Bought it back in '03. Does 4½". I'm on my 3rd blade. They do good but I wish it was a self feeder. My arms get beat up every time. I also wish I had the chute like yours as mine just throws it out at the bottom.

    • @X748SE
      @X748SE  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for watching Levi! These DR chippers are quite nice but I'm with you that a self or hydraulic feed would be nice. Your 3PH model would definitely take up less room in the shed/barn than my tow-behind.

      Thanks for watching. We got about 3" of wet slushy stuff in mid November which I had to quickly clean off so no video of that. Since then a skiff of snow here and there but nothing that I needed to get the blade or blower out for. I'm still waiting for a good snowfall. Our luck we will get is all in one dumping.

    Did you see on Curtis cab's website that they have a air conditioning option for the Kubota BX series? When I saw the air conditioning unit I thought that even though it is for the Kubota BX series I was thinking that maybe there is a way to modify it to the John Deere X series Curtis cabs.

    • @X748SE
      @X748SE  5 лет назад

      I just looked at it now. I bet you could modify it to fit the X series cabs. I wish that they gave the outside dimensions of it though. The intrusion into the cab would be the drawback as there isn't much headroom to begin with.

    • @jmgredgreen4x428
      @jmgredgreen4x428 5 лет назад

      @@X748SE Yes that would be a awesome modification! Maybe you could make the roof of the cab higher?

    • @X748SE

      It definitely is a possibility! I would probably raise the AC unit and put spacer covers to fill the gap.

      Unfortunately no, all the snow has bypassed us. Definitely getting antsy waiting to use the snowblower for the first time this season.
