Not sure if anyone answered this already, but in the Fuji settings there is something called movie silent control under the video section (it’s called something else on some cameras), and if this is on it disables the dials when in movie mode.
The reason this exists is to allow you to separate the video and stills settings, so basically switching from stills to movie mode and changing the shutter speed, when switching back to stills you’d keep the stills shutter speed you had originally. Having it off means that whatever the dials say are the settings for all modes.
Hope this helps!
Gotten mine a few weeks ago and genuinely constantly get asked what I do to my photos. I always tell them it’s a Fuji camera with film simulations. I love Bright Kodak. 🎉
Love my X100V. I take it everywhere I go. Really makes me love shooting again. So fun!
Literally makes the shooting experience so fun!
Everywhere u go.. take x100v with u 😊
I can't wait for the X200v so I can finally buy the X100v. 🤔😒
😂
The way I look at it is that it is a modern day Olympus Trip 35. The Trip appealed to so many people at the time because it was virtually fool proof point and shoot camera. The X100 series can be the same in full auto mode, as you've said you use all the time, but they can also allow for some serious photography, providing you know how to shoot with, and get the most out of a fixed lens camera. So many people just don't get the "zoom with your feet" concept as they are so used to having a zoom, or interchangeable lens. Although I have had several Fujifilm cameras, including X100, X100S and X100T, I no longer have an X100 series camera, because to he honest, I believe that they are over priced for what they are and I can easily put a 23mm F2 or F1.4 lens onto an X-T series camera and its not much bigger, but gives me the flexibility to use any of the other XF series lenses. Like you, I shoot Jpeg and RAW all the time, but although I used to always develop the RAW files, I found that I was often simply recreating the Jpeg, that the camera had already produced. These days, I only delve into developing RAW files, if I am not happy with the Jpeg, which is rare.
As a Fuji shooter, this is a camera I would get if I didn’t already have the 27mm lens for my (soon to be) X-T5. I used it a lot with my previous X-T4 when walking around with my family and it’s so perfect and compact.
Sounds like a great combo!
It's a great every-day-carry for sure, maybe the best. I've had mine exactly 1 year. I bought it at retail price back then. Since then the world has gone mad for it.
I think I knew when I bought it that it was an instant classic. The X100 series was becoming a big thing for Street Photographers before the V but the weather-sealing, new sharper lens, and flip screen, were what I was waiting for.
It's never going to be a bargain-basement camera. It's a classic. Collectible.
A joy to use 1-handed, in silent mode, manual focus, pre-focussed. So discreet, so instant.
Not many people mention this but you can set all the important controls with the camera turned off, so you're ready to go.
For the style conscious out there... I have a black one wrapped in a black silicon jacket for protection, grip, and discretion..... with a red shutter button. "Is that a Leica?"
Remember though, you can get 5 Canon 5D mk2 bodies for the same price, or a 5D mk2 and a 35mm f/1.4 L for a lot less than the Fuji.
Trust me, for pure, magical, image quality ... get the 5D mk2 and the 35mm f/1.4.
I finally received my X100V a week and two days ago, after a 6 month wait. I thought I was never going to get it.
Still testing the camera out, but it’s definitely an amazing cameras. Photo resolution of JEPG’s are phenomenal!!!
So glad you finally got one!
FYI- It’s got a 23mm (35mm full frame equivalent) lens not a 28mm lens you mention in the video. You can put adapters to get close to a 28mm and 50mm full frame equivalent though.
Yes, we put a text overlay when we said 28, that corrected that. :)
@@GearFocus great, for some reason text overlays don’t show on the iPhone app..
Guys please read this comment: if you want the images from an x100v GET THE XT30ii. Yes you will have to get the 27mm which is a little more punched in and no ovf but trust me you’re not missing out on much. I fell in love with the shutter sound and feel of the xt30 and it is dearly missed now that I have the x100. Might even go back
Yeah black is great , I’ve bought 3 v’s since they were released ; 1 silver and 2 blacks
Got an XT4 in black, wish I'd got silver! I figured the Fuji lens would match the black better and any scratches would make for nice patina where as the silver would look bad with scratches. Problem with the black is it's very bland and doesn't show off how cool the dials are, both still look good though and I love the metal body! 👌🏻
X100f fan for life
Such a good little camera!
maybe you have your camera set to "movie optimized control" that setting will change the way you can use your camera in movie mode..make sure it is OFF
Josh here: I'll look that up! Thanks for the tip.
I’d definitely get the x-E4 that way to change lenses. Even use a pancake lens like the 27mm 2.8! I have an x-s10 right now but definitely want an x-e4
That sounds like such a dope combo. Would you get it in silver or black?
@@GearFocus that’s been my debate haha I like both but I also like the all black look for less attention while out shooting haha but the retro look of the silver looks great too
I have the black, and I wish I'd bought the silver!
I keep it in what you call auto mode, but I use the front and rear dial for aperture and exposure.
Just asking but ain’t getting the s10 almost the same thing? Just don’t have the cool film camera body I want?
Anyone can tell me don’t it have the same film looks?
Amazing camera, well let’s not go crazy…sexy, sure to some degree (especially the silver body), but amazing….? I have played with the ‘ F’ and yeah a fun rig and I am sure the ‘V’ with it’s updated specs and other bells & whistles, but at the end of the day, I’ll stick with my X-Pros (2&3) and X-T3/5. Perhaps when the hype has died down and the price drops to a more reasonable figure, I’ll re-visit this camera.
It's not auto its aperture priority. Auto is P or programme mode or a scene mode (if the camera has those settings) where the camera chooses shutter speed and aperture depending on your metering mode. Auto iso is separate.
You shoot in aperture priority mode where you retain control of the aperture but leave the shutter speed to the camera. If you rotate the aperture ring to A you can then control shutter speed, or shoot in S/shutter priority. Full auto is the shutter and aperture ring set to A. This is P or programme mode in cameras with a PASM dial.
You can't lighten or darken the scene with your aperture dial as the camera will automatically adjust the shutter speed or iso to give you the 'correct' exposure.Unless you shoot manually which you aren't.
do you have "movie silent controls" enabled? It's a the very bottom of the video menu on my X-H1, and what it does is that it turn on the touch screen in video to be able to control the exposure without having the dials making noise and stuff. And while it's active I can't change my video settings with the dials.
Maybe that's it?
Josh here: I think I do. I'll have to go to my menu and see if thats there, thanks for the tip!
Okay, the video title is misleading. The X100V has been out for more than 3 years. In 2020 and 2021, you could actually but this thing new or used at a "normal" price. How do I know? Because I've been eyeing them. But something happened in the past year, where they've become extremely rare and extremely overpriced. And that popularity has caught on to other cameras. I bought an X100F used in 2018 for $950. A 6-year-old camera like the X100F should be way cheaper by now. But they are extremely hard to find new or used. The X100F costs way north of $1000 used. And the new price is $2000 on Amazon and close to that price on some other sites. I thought this video would give insight on "why" it became suddenly popular. I've heard that it's popular on TikTok. Or the chip shortage. Or something. But this video could've been made in February 2020. It doesn't delve into the sudden spike in popularity.
the biggest unique feature of thd X100's, are their leaf-shutters… and then the hybrid evf/rangefinder-style…
I love my x100v although with the prices they are selling out I am considering selling an XT5
The XT5 would be so sick!
@@GearFocus I can get a used xt5 for cheaper then I could see my x100v, just afraid the XT5 isn't going to be a good of a daily carry
Was so damn excited to purchase this guy last year for our journey around the country. Stolen 4 months in, no joke. Absolutely gutted. Ended up squeezing out enough money for a Ricoh GRIII as a replacement, which is great, but not the same
That is heartbreaking 😭
Leica Q1 all the way
Leica is the king status 👑
@@GearFocus might be double ot tripple the price but rewards with great colors, full frame sensor and holds value
Yes please, someone tell me how to change the video settings with the dials instead of the touchscreen
Preach!
I grabbed an X-E3 a little while back with the 27mm f/2.8 and I love it. Not exactly the same but it was accessable and I got the body for 600 new so I grabbed it. Great combo but that 27mm lens can be a bit slow to focus and not the most accurate.
The best camera to have is the one you have on you!
Dude I swear by this camera.
Gotta hand it the influencers to hype the hell of this cameras to the point its jacked the the price to 2x the price when it was released 😂
X100V looks nice but I can’t understand why looks are so important for someone.
3 years old
Is the next one coming out soon?
Not sure but we're excited when it does!
Did you print the photos? if so how big they been or you use it all digital?
Silver rules!
Naw, you did good buying it black and silver
How out-of-stock is this camera really? Everyone keeps saying that you can't find it anywhere, but when I ordered mine a couple of months ago, it only took about 10 days to arrive (I'm in Europe). Is this a shortage that only affects the US or are people just really impatient?
Must be a shortage here in the US because it is out of stock all of the time.
@@GearFocus Sorry to hear that. It's a great camera! I thought it was a bit overhyped at first but I actually really like it. I have a Canon and a good set of lenses as my primary sytem. The X100V fits nicely as a second camera.
Great video!
Thanks!
Gerald sent me here 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
We're glad you made it 💪
I bought and sold the X100V long before it was popular. I think I was tempted to get it again but I’m unwilling to have a different Fuji battery floating around. I don’t think it felt great in the hand. It felt very high quality but not comfortable at all. I’d much rather the XT line with a 18,23,27
The XT cameras are super great to hold!
Any particular reason, that you wished, you bought the black version?,Does it scratch easier?
Josh here: Just really love the look of black!
X-T200 is the best one!
What strap is that you are using?
Qué gran canal! me acabo de suscribir, saludos
What's with the canon g7x ii or the rx1 as an alternative?
I think an alternative would have to have a larger sensor than the 1" one in the G7X II. The Sony RX1, Ricoh GR series, Canon G1X, Fuji XF10, Fuji X70, and the Nikon Coolpix A all have larger than 1" sensors with fixed lenses and could be acceptable alternatives to the X100 for some folks.
There's loads of cameras that have a retro/film look. This camera is obviously nice, but tiktok is the reason why no one can get one. lol
why does it cost so much?
Owned one, loved it then sold it.
Turns out that I'm a long lens type of guy.
So bye bye X100v, hello Fuji 100-400.
Just got me a 100-400mm and I didn’t realize what I was missing. Just so awesome being able to reach whatever I want and give a completely unique look.
@@Derrick_Evans As an equestrian photographer (standing in a field in the freezing cold and wet isn't glamorous) I have used some really nice glass.
I really enjoyed the X100v but I found myself cropping the images but I wasn't getting the image I wanted.
It's all about compression. The for-shortening of subject and background is what I enjoy.
Each to there own.
Be lucky stay safe.
It’s 23mm or 35mm equiv! And no, it’s not weather resistant!
Hey Burt, so it is weather resistant if you purchase Fuji's lens adaptor and add that on to the front of the lens. Hope that helps!
Great camera but definitely not worth two time price growth from release date. The same with used X100F, X100T ... I got a feeling that no one cares about the price ... How everyone can forget on such important aspect as price? .... just clickbyte everywhere ... I'm fan of this line but price is ridiculous :D I can understand inflation but not 200% price and hype
what 28 mm are you talking about ? thats not correct
See other comments and the text overlay where he corrected what he said.
Yes, right, it's like a phone camera but 3 times more expensive. That's why Fuji doesn't make them many. In a couple years it'll be obsoleted anyway.
Overprised 😂 I prefer my xe4 and 18mm + 33mm. Both f1.4
#UnpopularOpinionAlert .... I'm sorry Not sorry to say it is waaayyyyyy Too over priced and Overhyped by RUclipsrs.......Nice camera but not at that price ......
No, this camera sucks!
Absolutely sucks, 0-10 would not recommend.
Black?! Are you kidding?
For sure for sure
It's because it has become a cult camera. It's just another digital camera.
*Laughs in (overpriced) Sony RX1r ii*
