Nice video, looks like a lovely airfield. Jon, I'd love to see a more in depth video with those responsible for getting these new RNP approaches added to their airfields as they've put in a massive amount of work and deserve great credit. And hopefully it would do something to encourage others to consider applying for similar.
(Rant section) However, you've got to laugh at the UK's prehistoric attitude to instrument approaches. The CAA would clearly rather not certify them at GA airfields so their solution is to require so many conditions attached it's practically unusable. There is a 16 (16!) page document outlining the procedures and all the restrictions just to even consider flying the approach. If you haven't booked it beforehand and the weather deteriorates enroute - you can't fly it. If the cloud base is above 1200ft - you can't fly it. If you miss your 15 minute prescribed arrival slot - you can't fly it. If you go missed - you'll probably lose your slot and have to divert. (This last one particularly unpleasant imo as it actively punishes safe flying and good airmanship). "Don't plan on using it to break cloud" and it's not allowed to be used for training so what exactly is it for?
A step forward, but one with a lot of asterisks attached to it.

Just had my first solo yesterday! Getting a good landing is harder than it looks.

Congratulations on your solo. Just keep practicing and keep the faith. I suffered hard to get landings right , one day you get it. I don't even know what I do different now but it mostly works. When it comes to you you'll be smiling you head off ever time. Happy landings

Great coverage of effectively my local GA airfield. Very nice club, very friendly and welcoming. Thanks for taking the time to make this Jon. Had a few introductory lessons here including aerobatics in which we discovered I am not made of the, 'right stuff' yet.

Jon, your reviews get better and better. I've enjoyed a fly in to both Fenton/Leeds East and Sherburn - both seemed to have upped their game over recent years. A great review, thank you.

Great video. It is a superb airfield and The Motorist is well worth the very short walk - especially if you like cars, good food and great beer (who doesn't?!) :)

Back in late September 1972, my club, The British Airways Flying Club, located at Wycombe Air Park had planned to take all the airplanes to Edinbugh for the weekend. I was a brand new PPL at the time and the visibility wasn't good when we left but it gradually got worse and worse and as I flew over an airport, I decided we would land there. It was sunny but extremely hazy but the T showed they were using runway 19. I attempted to land on 19 3 times but every time I turned final, looking directly into the sun, I completely lost the airield and eventually landed on 24. As we taxied in my friend and I made sure we knew which airport it was. We met the guys at the club and they were extremely hospitable. As I recall there were a few occasions where our club visited them and they visited us.
So I was interested to see your review. Obviously, a lot has changed in 50 years, but it's plain to see that the friendly attitude we encountered that day still persists.

    Great review, Jon.
Sherburn is a fairly special airfield, in that it was established as an AeroClub pre WWII. Dave Salt comes across as a really passionate, knowledgeable and friendly person, a great advocate for the club. Sherburn has always being very highly spoken of within the professional aviation community. Great to hear they are getting an instrument approach. Ad Astra.

It’s really interesting to see airfields on that side of the pond. Where I live in Canada airports are much more sparse and when they do exist they are very out of the way. This means that if you go to an aerodrome it’s very likely there will be literally no one there. On the plus side there aren’t any landing fees or anything like that, but it would be nice to have access to fields that are more social and have cafes and such.

Hi Jon, thanks very much. I'm still in awe of these green UK GA Fields with cafe's, A-G comms, and full facilities. Very few like that here in Oz, and once beyond the city limits, it's tumbleweed country (sometimes literally!). Can't wait to get back to the UK again for a bit of flying. By the way - the video shows your u/c as only two greens with a gear warning light flashing (2:08, 2:17, 2:42). Did you notice? Or was it a trick of the light? Excellent landing. Cheers, Phil

These review videos are great Jon. I wish these were out when I was hour building. I feel I’ve missed out on some great airfields by not knowing all there is to offer. I’ve been to this airfield but didn’t know about the car place. Would have loved to have a walk over there.
